My friend and I picked this spot because we liked the name. It sounded interesting! After we found parking in the nearby garage, we were excited to try some great brunch food. Food Beef hash is a stew with cubed sweet potatoes. The eggs on top really added more flavor dimension to the beef hash. The lemon ricotta pancakes were delicious. Fresh grape juice and orange juice was really good. A nice glass of juice is a good start. The server was friendly and apologized for the delay in getting our food. I've always wanted to try this place out and burger week gave us that motivation. This place has great service and their burger was one of my top fav burgers from burger week (out of the 10 burgers I've tried so far). The Cuban Frita burger was not too heavy and I liked the flavor of their sauce. It is also interesting they chose to do a beef vs pork chorizo (wife doesn't like pork) and it worked well. I want to start by saying that this restaurant is in an AMAZING hotel, the Kimpton Canary Hotel. So this does not in any way reflect on the hotel or its staff - they are AWESOME. In fact, I am giving this 2 stars ONLY because the Maitre D was so gracious and attentive. Otherwise, 1 star for the food. Long story short, we hated (almost)everything. - Focaccia bread. This was a literal small loaf of bread (picture below), thick cut, doughy, not at all like any other focaccia bread I've ever had. We ate one slice between us. - Kale Salad. My wife burst into laughter when it was served. See picture. It was a pound of kale, a drizzle of dressing, and a handful of nuts and raisins tossed on top. The pieces of kale were giant, so she had to take a knife and fork to it. Maybe ate 10% of it. - Dan Dan Noodles. Overcooked, the noodles were mush, the taste was weird, everything was soggy. Inedible. We both had one bite. - Kung Pao Cauliflower. This was the only dish that was ok, but again, we maybe ate half of it. - Curry Mussels. Interesting take on mussels, which is why we took a flyer on it, and it would have been fine (curry was good), but the mussels were overcooked and old. The meat on most was shrunk to a pea size, and the ones that weren't tasted spoiled. Mussel fans know what I'm talking about. Also disappointing was the fact that at most high end restaurants, if your guest tells you they are done and they have barely eaten anything, you ask them if everything was done to their satisfaction, and offer to replace the item with another or remove it from the bill. There was none of that. With no drinks, the bill came to $120, and we ate so little we ate again later at The Habit down the street. We also had a $60 breakfast credit from booking our stay through Chase, so we had breakfast there the next morning. Big mistake. We both had the Egg Benedict, and again the egg wasn't served on an english muffin but a big sliced loaf of thick break that just tasted like nothing. Neither of us had more than a bite of it. $24 each, so not worth it. We ate so little we went to a coffee shop after for pastries. While I can't say enough good things about the hotel itself and its staff, especially the Maitre D, they need to change chefs. read more

Everything our party ordered was delicious from the salads, avocado toast with salmon, and the B.L.A.T.. Will not be coming back here. All the staff were super friendly and accommodating so no issues on service! The restaurant is located on first floor of a hotel so it has a bougie vibe. The food however was disappointing. The pork sausage was gross, potatoes lacked salt, and the salmon was undercooked. Told our waiter who kindly asked the chef to remake it, but the second one still was slightly pink in the middle. Also the lemon ricotta pancakes were mushy in the middle and seemed slightly undercooked as well :( Don't feel inclined to come back a second time for those reasons. read more

Santa Barbara Restaurant Week is April 26 - May 5, 2024. So I took the 2-hour one way Amtrak hike from the SFV to, Finch and Fork, for their $35 Lunch menu (I hope I do not sound cheap, LOL). This restaurant is part of the Canary hotel, a Kimpton Hotel and Resorts property. Walking in to this restaurant space, you have to be captivated by the clean layout and the the simple but stunning table decos (that blue water glass, see my pictures). I am an incurable devotee of food events, so here I am. The Lunch Restaurant Week menu had limited choices, as it should be, in this 3-course offering. I went for the Deviled Eggs (why are they colored), the Pimento Burger (medium rare was too rare), and finally the dessert of Churros (fantastic, I could only down almost one of the six superbly prepared sticks and their sauces). Service was outstanding. What stunned me overall was that, for restaurant week, Santa Barbara put on a less than impressive show. Looks like nobody desired to participate. 13 restaurants only. Really..... is all that you have to show? On top of that 3 in Montecito and 1 in Goleta. So that brings it down to 9 restaurants in Santa Barbara for Restaurant Week. Very disappointing. Take a trip to LA so you all can see how Restaurant Week (2 weeks) and the amazing eating choices really works. You will be blown away. read more

We had an interesting Valentine's Day dinner experience. I chose this restaurant because we had been here a few months back for thanksgiving and I enjoyed their seafood dishes. Also they advertised there would be a dj and you can take home flowers in a vase. Neither one of those lived up to the hype. I started with the Smoke & Honey cocktail. It was full of ice, not filled to the top, they served it in a short glass. When I had it on our previous visit it was amazing. I sent it back and our waiter brought the same watered down drink in a martini glass. Not off to a great start. I ordered the Plant Love fixed menu. The first 2 courses were mediocre the dessert was delightful. We enjoyed the dishes my boyfriend ordered. The restaurant is located inside a hotel . Which means the entrance would be through the hotel front entrance. We made a resi since we were on a time crunch but realized we didn't need one once we got there. It was nice and well kept inside. Felt really cozy. We ordered: B.L.A.T. Bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato sandwich with fries. It was pretty good except for the bread being a bit soft it really didn't hold up well and got messy really fast. Black Garlic Caesar was ON POINT! The croutons brought so much life to the salad! The only downfall of our experience here was our server. It was disappointing that after 15-20 minutes of sitting and waiting for him to come over, we had to ask the busser to have our waiter come over so we can put in our food and drink order after watching him refill another table's drink twice and ask everyone else how there meal was going. What a wonderful experience! The manager Robert greeted my husband and myself for our lunch reservation in such a warm and humorous manner. We truly enjoyed how on top of everything the staff was and felt very accommodated. The food was EXCELLENT. We both were starving and had the poblano burgers and salad, and honestly, some of the best food we've ever had. The restaurant was well designed, perfect level of noise, and a great experience overall. Robert even ran out to hand back my husband his sunglasses when he accidentally left them. What a gentleman!! Have you ever gone into a restaurant and they tell you to sit wherever you want? You go and sit down but then you get absolutely no service. Nothing, zero, nada. This is what happened to me today. They didn't even bring us a menu. Let me begin this review by stating, I truly hate to give one-star reviews. Moreover, I have eaten at this restaurant literally since it first open. And, I've gone here numerous times since they did their revamp. I really like it here. Thus, it is really hard for me to have to write this review. But, I believe it needs to be stated. To tell the story, my wife and I went to have breakfast. The man who I believe is the server/manager of the place, because he has been working here since it's reopening, told us to sit anywhere, which is what we did. That man looked over at us numerous times but no menus. No one asked what we wanted to drink, nothing. There was also another young server on duty. He walked by us five times, but nothing. We continue to sit in the booth for about fifteen minutes, wondering what was going to take place, until finally, both of these men were standing at one of their workstations, just talking. The one established server, was looking through, what I believe were receipts, the other man was just standing there looking at his phone. With that, I decided it was time to leave. Again, that's really sad because I really like this restaurant and have been a patron of it for many-many years. I don't know what's going on? We had an absolutely amazing dinner at Finch & Fork. Everything was so fresh... clearly they take advantage of the farmers market that takes place every Saturday right out their front door! We started with the deviled eggs -- beyond fantastic. The pork belly addition is brilliant. The best app we've had all week in SB. I had the special which was halibut. The tomatoes served with it were so fresh and flavorful. It was just fantastic. My husband had the short ribs... crème freche and house made pasta were just incredible. My husband is a trained chef and he said it was one of his favorite dishes in years. One last mention. The cocktail with gin, cucumber and mint was wonderful. This is a review for breakfast only. Restaurant opens at 7AM. We come in at 8am. They are completely unprepared to welcome diners. The servers are under trained. Service is unbelievably slow. We waited nearly 20 minutes to have a server come serve us water and ask us for our order (this was after being prompted by us). I have to say the Buffet spread was upscale & magnificent. Huge variety of delicious choices from salads, seafood, vast assortment of sides plus a carving station featuring roast Turkey and perfectly cooked prime rib all expertly sliced to your order. An amazing desert table that had all imaginable sorts of pies, cakes and puddings. With so many hungry diners the staff was extremely proficient in maintaining attentive table service coming just in time to clear plates and fill water glasses. The prime rib looked like it just got reheated in a microwave. Our tables ordered other appetizers (burrata salad, Caesar salad, tuna poke, and fried chicken) that tasted just okay, not great at all. Truly enjoyed F&F during my stay at Kimpton Canary hotel - one of my better hotel restaurant dining experiences for sure! I ate breakfast here each morning of my stay and ordered the same dish each time, the short rib & sweet potato hash (omitting Brussels sprouts) and YUM!!! Short rib was seasoned excellent, tender and paired well with the poached eggs and sweet potato. I had lunch once during my time, and honestly wasn't as exciting as breakfast. I believe I ordered the catch of the day and it was pretty bland, nothing special honestly. Service was great once seated - I feel like I had to flag someone down each morning to get seated, but once inside, polite and accommodating. Restaurant is spacious with beautiful small touches to make the space lively (lighting and decor were beautiful). As long as that short rib hash is on the menu, I shall return! read more

Easy to find, it's on a corner of streets i don't remember, there is a sign outside that you can't miss and it's inside a hotel. We were there early so street parking on a Sunday was not difficult at all. Staff are great esp to the gentleman who attended to us. Ugh! i hate that i didn't get his name but neverthless, everyone was accomodating. Food was on point! The pictures does not do justice to it but tske my word when i say its bomb. The yelp page says $$ but I think this place is closer to $$$ but that's just my opinion. Regardless the food and drinks were really good. Service was attentive and nice. Food presentation is beautiful. Scallops w/Risotto - so good. I could've eaten 2 servings of this. The risotto has a green sauce that was so delicious. Mussels - the broth was creamy and flavorful, 2 pieces of bread is not enough to soak up that deliciousness but my husband definitely tried. Valrhona Chocolate Torte - it was very interesting. Not what I expected, it was pieces of a chocolate torte with fruit around it and little drops of lemon curd. I could've used more lemon curd because it was tasty. Restaurant is beautiful. Well Finch & Fork stole my heart. Let's just say I spent a week in Santa Barbara and this was the place to go. Such a vibe. I would say my favorite items on the menu are: The F&F Devil Eggs. These were absolutely divine. I mean I grew up on devil eggs being serviced at most family functions and it was a traumatizing experience but Finch & Fork made me a believer again. Next the Diver Scallops. I wish it came with more scallops but other than that it was soulful to my spirit. The 12 oz Brandt beef New York prime besides the F&F Devil eggs is the best item on the menu and such a great price. The only thing I was change would be the potatoes having touch of salt and maybe some roasted shallots and garlic would set it off completely. I also was able to attend one of their many events like the Chardonnay and Carb. The experience was overall amazing to meeting local winery's and enjoy a community style meal. My table was a blast and made some great connections. The main issues were they used rock crab and historically it's really hard to get any meat out of it, a better option would have been King Crab or Snow Crab or better yet have the crab already split for guest because everyone had an issue with it. Another thing is that the chorizo and mussels were over cooked. I would also say next time it probably would have been better to sauté the seafood in wine, garlic, butter and maybe some old spice instead of having drawn butter and old spice to the side for dipping especially when it's not enough to go around. We are staying at hotel and wanted dinner close by. It took about 5 minutes to get acknowledgment and another 5 minutes to find ' menus', bare in mind the dinning hall only had 3 parties sitting so it was not busy. I sat with my hubby and three young boys, I ordered chicken strips and fries for each at $17 it was expensive and would have preferred ordering a steak and having them share, but that was my fault because I didn't ask the price nor was there children's menu provided. once we ordered, the food came out quickly. I ordered a scallop risotto, which was tasty, the risotto was a little thickin texture not dift snd creamy. The Hamachi was nice, should be served with a spoon. We also didn't get a enough utensils for the party, which I had to ask for I don't know if this is considered a fine dining establishment prices are like it, but the service and food is not there. read more

Been wanting to try the fried chicken here for awhile and had it tonight. We both ordered the chicken and got the Mac & Cheese, which was really good. The chicken on the other hand was over breaded. It comes to the table and it's huge. You get the leg, thigh and breast. After some of the crust comes off, you start to see how thick it is. They must double or triple the coating. It's the only way to get that much crust on it. Still trying to find that ultimate fried chicken out there. read more

We heard about The Finch & Fork thru the Santa Barbara tourist board, an email about the best Happy Hours. We planned on a little HH hop midweek to check out a few spots. FF was our second stop. A $5 Guinness got my attention and two orders. My wife ordered a Collins and said, " Delicious ". There are happy hours that discount food, discount drinks or discount both. This one does drinks but not food and that is Fair Play. A couple dollars off for drinks , food is full price. And delicious. Gourmet. The deviled eggs, $8 were topped with pork belly, super creamy and tinted red from some submersion. Excellent. The King Pao cauliflower smelt amazing when it hit the table. The flavor was equally impressive. You are more than happy to pay for food this well executed. Our server Sebastion, suggested some bread to go along and soak up any sauce. It was a fun little nutty loaf with good butter and a great add. He was charming and gracious. This is a swanky Kimpton. The hotel lobby and bar converge into one, the restaurant tucked behind. Soft hip music keeping the beat. My wife discovered some complimentary bites and red wine in the lobby, so thats an additional score. We enjoyed our time. Located In the Kimpton Canary hotel, this restaurant was a gem! Elegant ambiance, friendly/attentive staff with a delicious Menu. We started with their Black Garlic Caesar salad, which was yummy. The Fried Chicken Sandwich was delicious, from the flavorful brioche bun to the pickled fennel slaw, it was Definitely something worth ordering. The side salad that came with the Fried chicken sandwich had a very good dressing. The Bailey's Brioche French Toast is a must (even though we had it without the baileys cause I'm pregnant), the Vanilla mascarpone was a perfect pairing with the berries and candied pecans. Also Ordered a side of potatoes. If you're ever in the area, I'd definitely recommend coming here for breakfast/brunch. A fine hotel restaurant! There's a more casual area near the bar where there are TV's. The restaurant itself is quite small, nothing extremely extravagant. Food was tasty and the wine list is decent. It's a high price menu, but the glass of wine comes in a carafe so it's good to share for two. The cauliflower app was so tasty and we came here for the burger week featured burger. Chorizo infused burger with fries on the inside. Yum! The burger was not on the menu but the waiter was aware of the promo when we asked him. Great for a quick stop over appetizer or if you are staying in the hotel, very convenient. I don't think I'll be back unless I'm staying in the hotel, but not a bad experience overall. We had a stayed at the hotel and decided to dine there out of convenience. Splitting the review up to two : 1) HH 2) dinner 1) happy hour prices are no different that dinner prices which I found kind of weird?? The drinks were cheaper but the food was all normal priced. I was really looking forward to the shishito peppers but they were all out so we got the mushrooms, deviled eggs, and croquettes. The mushrooms were crispy and nicely fried but it just wasn't really amazing The croquettes were just cheese and it was paired with an interesting jam sauce but I kinda liked the combo (very umami)--I wouldn't order it again though The deviled eggs were way too expensive ($8 for 1 egg basically) I liked the pork belly - salty, warm, and crunchy on the outside, but soft on the inside - but the egg was pink and almost sweet in a weird way For my drink, I got a lemon drink that I can't remember the name of and it tasted like alcoholic lacroix 2) For dinner we ordered room service to just chill and relax. The portions are incredibly small and nothing stood out to me-- The Kung Pao cauliflower was so salty that we could barely finish it The gnocchi was more sticky that gnocchi and also over seasoned The mussels were decent but many of the mussels were just shells with nothing inside The blistered green beans were ok--nothing special And the swordfish which was highly recommend and in season but it was literally just fish on a plate. It had sides but there were barely to balance out the fish. Aside for their beautiful decor, I could not find much praise this second time around. (New York Strip: 62.5% | D) - Despite a seemingly reasonable presentation of this dish, I found the New York to learn toward medium to medium well rather than medium rare. Furthermore, despite the menu saying this was a 14 ounce steak, it somehow looks surprisingly small on the plate. Additionally, the steak desperately lacks some finishing flake salt that would've added the much needed saline forwardness. (Ahi Tartare: 65% | D) - Aside from the questionable plating covering the entire plate of tuna with the crackers, the tuna color is rather dull. Walked into the restaurant excited to try the burger for burger week- just to be treated like a second class citizen. My partner and I were quickly ushered into the dim, low, informal part of the restaurant for solely wanting the burger. We sat there and waited to be attended for ~10 minutes, and were only attended to when we got up to leave. The host then quickly took our order and we were asked not twice, but three times if the burger "was all" we were going to order. We were then ignored for 30 minutes. People were sat much later than us and got their burgers long before us. It finally came out, and was smaller than a baby's head. The burger was good. Overall if you are young, gay, or looking to enjoy burger week, steer clear of this restaurant, unless you have a one free hour and high rudeness tolerance. read more

My wife and I (from Nipomo) met her son, his wife and their daughter (from LA) in Santa Barbara to celebrate the end of our granddaughter's first year of college and the passing down of our old car to her. It's a city with tons of restaurants, but we chose Finch and Fork based on many positive reviews. Here are the pros and cons of lunch: Pros: - Location: Very good. It's part of the nice Kimpton Hotel midway up State Street and one block to the west on Carrillo. Most of State Street is closed to cars, but the downtown area is pedestrian friendly so you can usually park nearby and walk. - Menu: Interesting. The number of choices is sort of limited, but the combination of offerings had something for everyone. - Quality of Food: Really good. Three of us had the "Smoked Salmon Bagel" ($19) with red onion, harissa cream cheese, capers, scallions, tomato and sprouts. It was huge, a meal by itself and had a great taste. Another family member had "Short Ribs and Sweet Potato Hash" ($26) which came with 2 poached eggs, brussel sprouts and red wine demi-glace. She said it was "good - not great". Our granddaughter ordered a "Grilled Cheese Sandwich" ($18) on sourdough with gruyere, cheddar and muenster cheese accompanied by french fries ($3 extra). She seemed to like it. - Prices: About as expected. Not cheap, but fair. - Service: Attentive. Our server was a friendly guy who ably guided first time visitors through the meal. - Atmosphere: Contemporary and soothing. As befits an upscale hotel, Finch and Fork is cool and tranquil yet you'll feel at home in jeans. - Parking: Can be tricky. The hotel has a valet and there's lots of street parking nearby, but if things are crowded be prepared to walk. - Bathrooms: Clean and well maintained. Valentine's Day brunch: Food was absolutely amazing. Presentation was all there, but the descriptions on the menu were not necessarily accurate; seemed to be glamorized a little too much. Service was unfortunately and surprisingly poor. I've had good experiences at the bar before so maybe this was an isolated incident but it took us twice the amount of time to be seated than the manager had told us, it seemed as though he forgot we were even waiting (he came up to us 20 mins after checking in and asked if we were waiting for a table). It took us 15 minutes after that to even get water or greeted from a server (or anyone at all) and beverages took another 10 minutes. The runner was walking around the floor with our food minutes before dropping it, he seemed to not know what table number he was delivering to. He even tried to drop it at another table next to us before they stopped him. Atmosphere was ok, many couples around us also seemed frustrated with their wait time and experience. Server did not check in on us at all, did not bring our sides as we requested, did not course out our starter nor did he bring share plates, and we had to ask for the check and to get our empty plates cleared before our final course. Had the food not been so good we likely would've walked out. Disappointed but hopeful this may have just been a bad day. read more

We stopped by here on our day trip to SB. It's located inside the lobby of the Canary Hotel with a parking lot right next door. We got: -Waygu Beef Burger ($21) loved this burger! It was delicious and so flavorful -Brioche French Toast ($16) was very disappointed in this one. It was cold, and tasted like toasted bread with powdered sugar and not actual French toast. Overall, average. We loved 1/2 of the dishes. Recommend if you're nearby, but nothing to go out of the way for. read more

Stayed at the hotel so we had 3 meals at Finch & Fork. Two breakfasts and one dinner. All of them were very yummy. We thought the deviled eggs were the highlight among a dinner of stellar entrees. And the drinks? Umm, awesome! Service was excellent and our server, Doyle, was so on point. Additionally, Robert, the manager, went to every table to check in and was a total pleasure to chat with. We're def coming back next time we're in SB!!!! read more
