Pioneer Crossing Antiques is also nearby and was sadly closed this Wednesday, but I normally stop in whenever it's open. The proprietors are awesome and I always find something unique to take home. Food-wise, the lox bagel was a standout. Great ratio of cream cheese, capers, dill, thin-shaved red onion, plus a little side salad of arugula and radish that actually tasted fresh instead of feeling like decoration. The yogurt parfait was small but mighty, layered with berries and granola and substantial enough to feel like breakfast. Easy seating, dog friendly, and plenty of sandwiches and salads if you're not in a bagel mood. Tasty, fresh, quick, and just enough "we did something" energy before heading back to the Airbnb to relax and beat the heat.

Also, the beautiful new laundromat or remodeled laundromat next-door should really be a good revenue source for the hungry laundry goer....... But certainly grab a doughnut. They're very tasty. So keep heading up the road a bit to Joshua Tree as there are many cute little shops in the three block area there which I guess is called downtown Joshua Tree? I really dig all the new modern prefabs that are popping up which appeared to be primarily Airbnb joints(?)- a lot of style man! Yeah, I'll be back. At 2 bucks and change it was just fine and a fair value. Glass case and pink boxes, you would think that's charming, it's not. The decor is firmly stuck in the 70s but not in that mid century stylish way. The laundromat nexr store was freshened and modernized recently. Some thought and about 15k could offer much needed updates. Don't change your cashier though, she was wonderful.

ANYWAY. We have been here a couple of times - will usually stop by here when we're in Joshua Tree. On Saturdays, there is a Farmer's Market in the parking lot, so it gets pretty crowded. This last time we went, I got an iced strawberry matcha, and my partner got the chai iced tea. Both with almond milk. They still charge a surplus for non-dairy, which feels so 2022. But anyway. The drinks were delicious. We also got an almond croissant, which doesn't look like much, but it was AMAZING. And then the quiches. Oh, the quiches. I had such high hopes for these, especially since we were primed with refreshing drinks and a tasty pastry. These quiches are muffin-sized, perfect for a light meal or a heavier snack, and they look super cute. They will heat them up for you. When we went, they had bacon cheddar and spinach feta. We got one of each. My friends, these were so disappointing. First, no flavor. We asked for ketchup or hot sauce to give it a bit of acid, because it was basically egg all the way through. Solid wall of egg that tasted like the powdered egg you get at one of those corporate conference catered breakfasts. I had one tiny sliver of bacon in mine, and my partner was playing hide and seek with the spinach, and the spinach was winning. The crust itself was rubbery and chewy, not flaky like I would expect a quiche to be. I mean, it was palatable and not super expensive. I'm just not sure if you're selling food, you want it to just be "palatable". Last time, we got a savory veggie pie, and that was pretty good, so they DO have good savory foods. I think the quiches were just a huge miss this time. Bathroom is clean and single-stalled. Parking is easy in the lot, and on Farmer's Market days, I mean, c'mon, it's Joshua Tree, it's not like there isn't space on the streets too.

To make things worse, the cashier was rude and had a standoffish attitude, which made the experience even less enjoyable. The AC also wasn't working, so it was uncomfortable inside. Overall, this place is way overhyped. The interior is cute, but the drinks and customer service were a huge letdown. Definitely not worth the money or the hype.

We're so lucky to have found Lisa/Fine Art Cookies to handle all our desserts at our wedding. She is not only an incredible baker and artist but an absolute JOY to communicate and brainstorm with. Both my husband and I were blown away by her attention to detail, creativity, and willingness to adapt her recipes for our ideas. She created our beautiful vintage-inspired wedding cake as well as an array of 4 different cupcake flavors, all with varying ingredients to accommodate our guests different dietary needs. Not to mention she offers delivery and it saved the day because as with weddings... we had far less time in the day than we expected! We were in 29 Palms and everything arrived in perfect condition when she dropped it off. It was a relief to have a professional like Lisa handling all things dessert for us! Word to the wise: do NOT miss the chance to try her 'Kentucky Butter' flavor -- that's what we ended up going with for our wedding cake and we dream about the next time we can head out to dessert and pick up another cake of it. My best friend from growing up recently got married in Vegas, as they postponed their official wedding for a year due to COVID. Never had a Vanilla bean buttercream Chocolate cake with Nutella filling.. omgsh It is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The combination of these flavors together is amazing!!! I would've never thought of combining those flavors ! Lisa from Fine Art cookies knows what she's doing! I don't think I can go back to store bought cake now. After I contacted several area bakeries to order birthday treats for my friend, I discovered Lisa. She swiftly responded to me and was so accommodating. She created AMAZINGLY lovely and delicious cacti-inspired cake cups, and my friend was so touched at such a unique desert-themed birthday treat. I needed a custom cake, and I had been a bit last minute planning it. Lisa got in touch with me and patiently worked through some options, getting a sense of what I had in mind. She quickly intuited how I was imagining it and offered some creative ideas and flourishes, which fit the theme perfectly. And they have popsicles and various baked goods too, so you could actually have lunch here if you really wanted. They also have various kinds of corn ("elote con Hot Cheetos" and other fun flavors), mangeonada, and all sorts of stuff. There's even sugar-free vanilla ice cream. Add to that super nice people, and what's not to love?

Thankfully this place had a small offering of tasty key lime pie cups and a slice of pound cake that could probably impress my mom. The drink selection did not disappoint either with many unique concoctions. The owner was very welcoming and made me feel right at home even as they are in the process of updating. They also have a small selection of local personal care items to keep you feeling fresh in the hi desert.

Came for the matcha and selected the seasonal Iced Passion Fruit Matcha $9. Not sweet which I don't mind. There's self serve simple syrup available if you need. Would come back again to try more of the pastries and interested to see what other seasonal matcha they create. Our first experience at Nice Dream was dinner on a Thursday night. Reservation requests are available on their website with seating starting at 6pm. We showed up a little before 6pm with no reservation and were able to get a table. The menu is small and recommend sharing plates. Highly recommend if you like Japanese/seafood. Their bar, Sugar Water, has a unique menu and a creative selection of NA drinks. The whole vibe was perfect for a chill date night. We ordered the Oysters $30 half dozen (interesting basil sorbet to top as desired), Crudo $25 (my personal favorite of the night with a Thai basil coconut cream, 10/10 chefs kiss), a few of the handrolls $7 each (selection of 4, rolled like cigars, loved the yuzu yellowtail and the umeboshi - but you have to love ume to like this), Cod Collar $21 (comes with 3 pieces, buttery, melts in your mouth, watch out for the bones), and the rice hugger $21 (silken tofu and sesame rice, the only vegetarian option). Dessert selection was a raspberry chocolate cake $14 (it was the chef's birthday the night we went, decadent cake with a solid crunch cornflake crust, moist chocolate cake, layer of chocolate mousse and topped with fresh raspberry). The ice cream selection was delicious and would recommend anytime of day. The flavors are all vegan, creamy and yummy - we tried the matcha strawberry and vanilla bean (affogato available). Service was great during breakfast/quick service and dinner/full service. Location was previously four different businesses, incredible how they've transformed the space into a light, airy, open space with tons of natural light. Parking is right behind the building and not large so could see it filling up fast on the weekends.
