I had a small star crack on my front windshield and I was researching everywhere for the best quality work and good price point. My insurance had a deductible but they preferred to use Safelite which I have only heard negative things about even though their commercials are always so positive. After asking family and friends, and doing my research online for the Richmond area, I came across Mike with Fine Windshield repairs. He states he has been repairing/fixing windshields for more than 40 years! Wow! He does NOT replace windshields just to clarify. He personally guaranteed me that he would make my insurance company pay the deductible and that I would not have to pay out of pocket and he was absolutely correct! Noticed a crack on my Jeep windshield at noon on a Saturday. Called SafeLite. They wouldn't repair because the crack was slightly larger than a dollar bill, and they weren't free for 5 days for mobile assistance. Stupid. Mike was AWESOME. They don't replace windshields, but they can pretty much fix any crack you have. My poor whip was hit by a rock and after searching the interwebs for windshield repair I came across some reviews for him. Everyone kept saying "call your insurance provider first". So I did, they told me that they fix up to a "6 inch crack" after that the windshield has to be replaced. Pretty much saying, we'll send someone out, they'll tell you they can't fix it and then charge me my deductible to replace my windshield. They insisted I go with someone in their "preferred" network, I insisted on going with Mike Fine, and it was a good move. He came out the very next day and fixed it in 20 minutes flat. He provided advice on preventing the crack from spreading further and was able to schedule me for an appointment the following day (he drove to my location, another plus). I drive a 2015 BMW 3 series. I found a crack on my windshield probably caused by highway chips. Long story short: BMW dealer quotes me 1800 dollars for OEM replacement, but my insurance only cover up to 800 dollar repair, which is barely enough for an aftermarket windshield. About a week ago, my car windshield had been hit by a rock and it started to crack a little more on my drive home. I've had two previous experiences with rocks from driving behind dump trucks and it's really scary wondering if you're going to have to buy a new windshield. With the first rock that hit my windshield, my insurance recommended using Safelite, and it looked like Poo with a capital P. It didn't really look any different from when I initially got the chip. My son's friend kept asking how I got a gunshot in my window, even after we got it repaired. So first and foremost, if you have a chipped or cracked windshield, DO NOT use Safelite. The second time a rock hit my windshield, it was in my husband's BMW and I knew I had to find someone that would do an amazing job before I got nagged into oblivion. I researched and reviewed numerous online reviews and I stumbled upon this place. As soon as I called him he was willing to meet me in a parking lot, fixed the crack super fast, and you could instantaneously see the labor of his work. You can hardly even tell there was a big chip in the glass now. The third time I got hit by a rock, was last week, and a stupid rock made my glass start cracking. I had just recently got my own Bimmer and was kicking myself about my crappy luck with rocks. I called Mike Fine again, panicked that my insurance wouldn't cover a crack and he told me to call them and tell them I had a small dime size chip, and at most I would have to pay him was $20 extra. We quickly set up an appointment and he fixed the crack and it is still holding strong. I think Mike said he was in his 80's, but he has done this for so long that nothing really phases him. He is super quick and his work is really astounding. I gave him a $10 tip on top of the $20 to treat himself to some coffee, and he gave me a big hug and thanked me. Mike was an absolute pleasure to deal with. I called him on a Friday afternoon after discovering a chip in my windshield. Although it was the day before a long weekend, when many folks have already closed down for the day, Mike offered to meet me at the mall 30 minutes later and fix my windshield. While fixing the chip, Mike pointed out another chip that I hadn't even noticed. He said he would fix that for the same price. At least for my repair, Mike charges $60 if not going through insurance. If going through insurance, he knows all the details (including having memorized the phones numbers). He could tell me the exact questions they would ask and how to word my answer for the quickest resolution (like giving a date of the incident, instead of saying sometime last week). While there, the manager of a local Hyundai dealer came up shouting "Hey Mike!" Mike said his company does a lot of work for them (he lets his son handle the dealerships). Have to think I made a good choice if the dealerships also use him. Mike made what would be otherwise a very annoying experience not so bad. I cannot recommend him enough. Oh, and he also noticed that the insurance rep said I had a $1000 deductible. He said with that kind of deductible I would be paying for my own windshield if I ever needed it to be replaced (not from these chips, but perhaps a future incident). He told me to call him for recommendations (he only does repairs, not replacements). An all around good guy. read more
