First time visiting Fino, and it was a very nice restaurant! Our waiter was absolute perfection--he took incredible care of us and provided amazing service from start to finish. The food was great overall, though we did have one small issue: the vegetables were served really cold, likely because they were plated first. When we told the waiter, he immediately offered to bring out a fresh, hot batch of veggies. Unfortunately, we were in a rush to catch a show and couldn't wait, but we deeply appreciated his attentiveness and proactive customer service. The hubster surprised me by taking me to Fino last night for a belated anniversary dinner. We arrived as soon as they opened. The inside is tastefully decorated with tables adorned with white table clothes and beautiful pictures on the walls. There are spaces for intimate parties of two and ones for larger parties. Our server, Charlie, was warm, friendly, funny, and amazing! Since it was our first time at Fino I had a question about one dish and my onion allergy and Charlie ensured me it could be made to order. On to their food...their delicious food! If you love authentic Italian food, run...don't walk to Fino Ristorante! We began our meal with their sourdough bread, followed by their Patate Frites. We shared the Insalada di Rucola. The hubster ordered gnocchi and I had the Gamberi. Everything we had was beyond delicious and I am thankful we had a little extra to take home to enjoy again later. We also had the opportunity to meet a lovely couple who had been dining at Fino for over 30 years! The wait staff knew them and we decided to surprise them and buy their dinner as well. I had an outstanding dinner at Fino's. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel genuinely welcomed. Our server, Jose was exceptional. He truly added value to the dinning experience. Fino was a winner from our first visit 15 years ago. We've always enjoyed some great Italian and seafood dinners here. We try to make it here once a year for an our treating from our favorite waiter, Charles. He now knows us so well, he knows we always start off with Caesar salads with acciughe in olio di oliva (dark anchovies). I must say we were getting a little tired of the same old menu BUT they now have a specials menu. I ordered the Blistecca con Fungai e Pancetta, this was a fantastic steak. My Valentine ordered the Ravioli con Tagliola e Speck, great Alaskan halibut with raviolis. For us, it's worth the 70 mile drive for excellant service and outstanding meals. read more

tldr old school italian tucked in a hotel serving up huge italian menu with friendly staff and large plates friends and i went to celebrate my birthday - it was pretty busy in the restaurant for a tuesday so recommend getting an online reservation ahead of time we ordered a dish each which was plenty. specifically got the pollo alla saltimbocca/marsala chicken dish. It originally came with potatoes but opted for a side of linguine in a butter/white wine sauce and a side of veggies. they are great about providing substitutes. portion size is very large here! the chicken was tender with a good amount of avocado, prosciutto and cheese. pasta was decent with some basil and parm to top and paired well with the chicken. veggies were pretty cold...saving quality was that they were very flavorful. the sauce tasted good but overall the dish felt very greasy - i think the sauce had too much oil so i was only able to finish about half. friends' vodka sauce shrimp pasta had good flavor as well as my other friends ravioli dish was pretty solid. both were also large portions. we ended the night with a chocolate lava cake and it had some nice sugar work holding the ice cream. whipped cream with caramel sauce was also a nice touch and complemented the cake well. i think the cake was a bit too cold by the time it arrived to our table but still tasted great and probably since they needed to light the candle. I appreciated their attention to detail! the cake was pretty big too. service was friendly, very professional, and food came pretty quickly! they also gave a lot of complementary bread so we were stuffed. the interior of the restaurant is very old school and a bit cramped but has a nice neighborhood feel. overall i would be back if i am craving some italian with a big appetite! food 3.75/5 service 4.5/5 ambiance 3.75/5 value 4/5 read more

I reviewed Fino a year ago and when we recently revisited we were not disappointed. ( Actually we have been here several times I just haven't reviewed each time.) The Caesar salad was big enough for the three of us. My wife and daughter split the Carbonara. My daughter speaks Italian and orders Carbonara on every trip to Italy and she gave this a two thumbs up. I had Shrimp in a Piccata sauce with pasta noodles that were tender yet slightly firm: perfect. The desert stole the dinner: Chocolate Lava Cake. It came with a scoop of gelato, whipped cream and a beautiful presentation. I know this is not a classic Italian dessert, but so what, it was amazingly delicious. This is a small Italian restaurant located on the ground floor of the Andrew's hotel in SF. The food is excellent. We had the Fino salad which was fresh and not overdressed. The scallops were perfectly prepared. The minestrone soup was very large and flavorful. The pastas with red sauce were delicious. My daughter found the pesto rice rather bland and under seasoned. The desserts were spectacular and works of art. I highly recommend the chocolate lava cake or the Zabaglione. Both are sensational. They have an excellent children's menu as well. It just tasted like fish. It needed some salt or something. Vegetables did not complement the dish nor did it add any flavor. Quite disappointing when this dish is $44. 2/5 GAMBERI RIGATONI ALLA VODKA ~ another bland pasta dish. It seems the chef forgot to season the food? Unless all customers must season their own dishes with salt and pepper at the table? The sauce lacked depth and seasoning. 2/5 MARGHERITE (PIZZA) ~ average pizza. Crunchy crust, plain tomato sauce and mozzarella with some basil. 3/5 They added a mandate charge to our bill to add insult to injury. I'm truly amazed at the many 5 star reviews. My friend and I ordered a pizza and a pasta to share, and the server (without any requests) split the pasta in two plates and brought two additional plates for the pizza. Between the pizza and the pasta, I would rank the pizza top. It was very flavorful and perfectly cooked (both the dough and the veggies). The pasta sauce I felt was a bit bland and the actual linguine a bit over cooked. The seafood was cooked well, but again lacked a bit of flavor. The dessert though, was amazing, perfectly sweet! Went here to celebrate my friend's 28th birthday and loved the food. They have ample vegetarian options on the menu (as they can make all the non vegetarian pastas vegetarian) I loved their fettuccine mushroom red sauce pasta (subbed the prosciutto) - It was flavorful, creamy and yummy, the pasta soaked up the sauce very well and quarter-cut mushrooms tasted great. We also ordered the pesto tortellini, which was very mild on pesto, and that felt very light and tasty. I was not a fan of their vegetarian pizza, even after substituting Gorgonzola, but I was super stuffed with the pastas. For appetizers, we got fries (truffle) and bruschetta - which was loaded with artichoke if you're a fan. The servers were super nice and accommodating; although the service was a bit slow, we had a great time. I would suggest making a reservation in advance for bigger groups as they have limited big tables. In the end, we also ordered the chocolate cake and tiramisu and I loved every bit of the chocolate cake served with vanilla bean ice cream. We all devoured it. This place is very classy and nice (white tablecloths, elegant bar, etc.), but there did not seem to be a strict dress code. The waiters were very kind and checked in on us often. While in town for business, I decided to "hunt" for an Italian restaurant that makes their own gluten free pasta. I found one, and the pasta was incredible. I ordered the Capesante with the fresh spinach fettuccine, and it was honestly one of the best gluten free pasta dishes I have ever had. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and the pasta itself tasted like real, homemade pasta, not the usual GF texture. The atmosphere was upscale and polished, yet still comfortable and refined. The decor was tasteful, the music was nice, and it felt like the kind of place that would make a great date spot. I also had excellent service. My server, José, took great care of me and made the experience even better. I got their seasonal mocktail called Spice Spice Baby, which was super flavorful and not overly sweet. For dessert, I tried the Chocolate Fino, a house specialty, which is a decadent chocolate mousse, and it was delicious, rich, smooth, and the perfect way to end the meal.
