This is not a review based on food, I can't comment on that as I was not able to eat there even though I called to make reservations nearly two weeks in advance. We called two weeks in advance to make reservations, they only take them two weeks in advance, and left a message. We then called a week out, as we had not heard back, and were told there was no space for us and they didn't get the message. I checked with the two people I was with, making sure I was not crazy, and they both said yes I called and left a message. Poor form and a reason I wont try them again. They are lucky to be next to the theater and it seems a bit confident in traffic because of it. read more

Hmm...we've been here several times already. I wrote a good review about their steak before but tonight was a different story. This was 1/2 off wine night. I ordered the New York with peppercorn sauce and I specifically ordered it medium rare. The waiter brought the steak drenched in a mushroom sauce. Not good. I asked him to send it back. He returned with the steak in no less than 5 minutes which made me wonder if they just scraped off the mushroom sauce and replaced the same steak with the peppercorn. Also the steak was well done. Not good at $30. I mentioned it to the waiter but he seemed unconcerned. Anyway, we need to find another place, maybe Jak's next time. I know I can count on their steaks done right. Having been to Fins three times so far, it seems every visit I have is a different experience as the service quality is rather inconsistent. The first time, I came with a large group on a Saturday night. The place was BUSY so it was hard to accommodate the size of our party especially since the restaurant provides intermission dessert/drinks for patrons of the attached theater. The food was tasty, but the service was slow. The second time I visited was great! I brought my parents for lunch on a weekday while they were visiting from out of town. We were quickly seated and the waitress was attentive and wonderful. My dad ordered a seafood fettucine dish that he loved, while my mom ordered fish and chips and I had a burger. My burger was fine, though the relish they piled on was not enjoyable. The third time I visited, again with my parents for lunch (they really liked it), my dad ordered the same dish, while my mom and I each had the french onion soup and a house salad. The fettucine had fewer shrimp in it than during the last visit, but my soup and salad was pretty good. We received free bread this time, but not in either of my previous visits. During this visit, we were instructed to seat ourselves and waited a while to be greeted by our waitress and receive menus. There was one waitress and we were the only customers. A handful of customers showed up during our visit, but I think we received more help from the non-waitstaff, while the waitress appeared only to take our orders and provide us our bill. read more

Impromptu stop after curiosity made us stop and check out the historical downtown of Issaquah. Brought in by the lovely front courtyard seating. The menu have a lot of options and portions are good. I give Fin's a respectable 4, the food was really well prepared which shows they must have a good chef. The flavors were well balanced and not overly heavy, for the most part the seafood was well cooked. The crab cakes were a bit to veggie tasting as the there was a lot of bell pepper and it wasn't diced very well, and the shrimp was overcooked but not inedible. The wine selection wasn't bad though I would have liked to see a more well rounded selection. Over all and excellent place to eat, though it is a little pricey just a forwarning :) read more

Went in for lunch recently when I was in the downtown Issaquah area. The wine, decor, and table settings establish a fairly classy first impression when you walk in. It is slightly contrasted by the dark and drab bar located in the rear of the restaurant. I started with a bowl of new England Clam Chowder, which was savory, creamy, and flavorful. It was flavored with a spice which I couldn't quite place, but either way was fantastic. For my main dish for lunch, I chose the Dungeness crab roll. The roll was presented open-faced and topped with thick tomato slices and spinach leaves. The crab/shrimp mix was a bit bland, and was only made more dull by the juices of the overly thick tomatoes. There was also a piece of crab shell mixed in, which I was surprised to bite down on. I would not recommend this "special" Lastly, I ordered the creme brulee. It was topped with whipped cream, strawberries, and blueberries, which complimented the desert's flavor well. The custard was a bit too thick and reminiscent of home-made pudding. Its taste was good, but the texture lacked that light fluffiness that would normally contrast the caramelized sugar. Speaking of caramelized sugar...the desert also arrived with only minimal caramelization, and didn't "crack" the way you would expect a creme brulee to. Still, when mixing it with the fruits and the whipped cream, it was light and sweet, which is all I really ask. The waitress was very attentive and friendly, although a bit overwhelmed by the lunch rush. Altogether, I'd say Fins Bistro has excellent service and satisfactory food. I was disappointed by the crab roll, however will probably return and try another entree to really assess the food. read more

We've been season ticket holders at Village Theatre for three years now, and for three years I've been curious about this little establishment that empties out into the theatre's lobby. This last weekend my husband and I decided to double with my parents and grab dinner before the show. I'm sorry I waited so long! Our waiter, Andrew, was exceptional - very personable, knowledgable and attentive. The owners were very hands-on in a way that made their patrons feel appreciated. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate without feeling in-your-face. And OH! the FOOD! I ordered the Sesame-crusted Seared Ahi Tuna Salad while my husband ordered the chef's special - Wasabi-encrusted Jumbo Scallops with Asparagus and Butternut Squash Risotto. Both dishes were to. die. for. I have to admit I did not expect that caliber of food - the menu there is quite extensive for such a small establishment, so I was worried they might be spreading themselves a bit thin. My doubts were completely unfounded, and I look forward to returning to try several more dishes on their menu. As a side note, if you dine as theater-goers, the restaurant has a wonderful feature: you can order and pay for your dessert at the end of your meal, and return to the dining room during intermission (when you're feeling a little less full) to enjoy a refreshment before the second half of the show. Amazing food and amzing owners and staff! My husband and I stumbled upon Fins for our anniversary dinner and were so happy that we did. The owners went out of their way to make us comfortable in the bar while we waited (5 minutes) for a table to open outside. They let us taste the featured wines and carried our drinks out for us when a table opened up, letting us select which table we wanted. The staff was prompt, very courteous and attentive. We ordered the Ahi Tuna and Northwest Trio and loved every bite of both dishes. The starter salads were brought out right away and dinner soon after we were completely finished with salads. The Ahi was delicious, the crabcakes had great flavor, and the Halibut Cheeks and Salmon were cooked to perfection. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality of food they serve. The owner told us to bring our kids along next time as they are a family-friendly restaurant. We we certainly take her up on her offer and will be coming back again! Great food . Best clams in town . Down fall is if you only have two people and they have tabled open for 4 people you will not be seated even though they had 3 tables of 4 seats open . My family and I have visited Fins Bistro on many occasions (and even before when it went by another name). My parents even go enough that they know them when they walk in. My dad, is a vegetarian (but eats fish) and is lactose non-tolerant, and my sister is also a vegetarian (and a picky eater). Yet we always can find many things on the menu, and they are always more then happy to make changes to the menu for us. We have also always had great service, and the atmosphere is lovely. The best is being able to sit outside on a art walk night, or really any evening in summer. Their outdoor seating is really lovely. Their brunch is really lovely too. Overall, I've had many many great experience's here and know that I will have a great experience here. Highly recommend it. read more

My girlfriend and I were in town for one evening this past Tuesday and we stopped in for dinner. We were on a mission to find local wine and seafood while in the Seattle area and we couldn't have been happier with Fins. Our server Andrew was tremendous and his recommendations were spot. We split the oysters, the bruschetta (best we've ever had and the grilled/fried bread was heavenly, I had the NW Trio (salmon, crab cake and halibut cheek) and my girlfriend had the King Salmon with ravioli, scallops and prawns. Everything was well above average but we agreed that the halibut cheeks were the absolute best we've ever tried. The first time we dined at this place the food was excellent but our 2nd time coming here it was just average. We ordered the fried calamari as an app and it was just ok. Small portion size and the breading had not much flavor. The pasta dishes were not anything special either. Little flavor with the tomato marinara sauce and bland. Not impressed. However, service was attentive and friendly. Also restaurant is very small and the tables very close to each other so not much privacy. Not quite sure if we will come back. read more

Absolutely amazing! I had the Seafood Trio which comes with a crab cake, salmon over rice with a Bernese sauce which was light and perfect, and a Parmesan crusted Halibut cheek, to die for! My boyfriend had the Seafood Fettuccini, equally as wonderful. We finished with the Strawberry Cheesecake and are now floating home on cloud nine. Tatyana, our server was very pleasant and did a great job, she even got us to try the olive tapenade which we normally wouldn't and she was right. Happy NYE to us! We had an absolutely fabulous evening of celebration with the perfect cozy place to wine and dine. Ambience = charming, Service = 5-star, Food = 10 stars. Our server, Sarah, was attentive beyond the call of duty....friendly, accommodating, cheerful. The food exceeded anything we could have imagined. My hubby had the filet with crab and I had the NW Trio which was beautiful to look at and more delicious to eat. Perfectly cooked salmon, crab cake and halibut cheeks which tasted like lobster. Refined sauces to focus on the main dishes for both of us, sides of garlic mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. Dessert was authentic NY cheesecake with fresh berries and whipped cream. Overall: A nice little setting in the heart of downtown Issaquah Our group of five arrived at Fin's at 6:30 pm, on a Sunday evening. It was pretty full, as there was a play on at the theatre next door (which began at 7 pm, if I recall correctly). Not to worry, the owned made sure he could accommodate us with a mere 5 minute wait. We ordered drinks in the process and before we knew it, our table was ready. We all skipped the appetizers and went straight for the entrées. The average price of an entrée in Fin's is around $20-25. I had the Chilean sea-bass. Everyone seemed to be pretty happy with their dishes. All of the dishes were of high-quality, well seasoned and were cooked to perfection. The average size of an entrée is what I would call an average European sized main-course, so, if you are here to stuff your face with masses of low-quality food, Fin's is NOT for you. Being able to cook well is sometimes a curse as well as a blessing. A curse because eating out always seems a gamble on the quality of food as well as the price of the food. When I cook at home, I used the best ingredients I can find. Having sides of boiled white rice and two broccoli florets and two carrot batons seemed nothing special. It essentially meant that we paid $22.95 for a small piece of Chilean sea-bass. It's overpriced in my eyes, but I do step aside and say it was cooked perfectly and was of high quality. I skipped the desserts; they all seemed heavily laden with dairy. The Irish coffee was pretty pants - $7, there was not the distinct black and white layer, the "cream" had mixed into the coffee, it was not as sweet as it should be (which is one of the important components in getting the cream to float), and the "cream" was not cream. It was really bad, artificial, aerosol crap - yuck... The serve staff was a little rude and overly irritating, but bar that it was a pretty good "last-dinner" together with our European guests. Our overall price inclusive of tips, dinner, drinks and coffee/dessert was $210 for a group of five. Fin's is a little over-priced in my opinion, and although we liked the food, we would only consider going back if they had the 2 for 1 Microsoft Prime offer again - sorry... read more

Our typical experience at Fins is weekend breakfast. As an enthusiast of the genre, I am happy to report that Fins offers a commendable first service, with a touch of class to go along with your scrambled eggs. Our most recent foray to Fins' was on a Saturday morning, apparently beating the rush by arriving at 8:45. The dining room here is tastefully decorated. Nothing over the top or avant-garde, but comfortable, and on a sunny morning, bathed in natural light. Good coffee is a non-negotiable for me when it comes to breakfast service. Fins serves a decent cup, and the staff do a first-rate job of keeping you topped off and happy. We are normally fans of a breakfast cocktail, but on this visit were nursing a case of the yucks owing to several excellent drafts from the evening prior. Our verdict on Fins ability to put together a decent greyhound will need to wait for another day. I can report, however, that the offer an excellent glass of orange juice. I'm not certain it is fresh squeezed, but it is certainly top-quality. For comestibles, our party of three selected the Corned Beef Hash, the Pancake Breakfast, and the California Eggs Benedict. All were served in a timely manner, and none disappointed. Pancakes met expectations, and are served with a nice compliment of sides. The California Benedict featured a decent hollandaise, beautifully soft poached eggs, avocado, and a strange abundance of apparently pre-frozen spinach. This last ingredient was truly puzzling: Why you would mound up such an obviously pre-fab product on an otherwise creditable eggs benedict is simply beyond me. I was expecting some gently wilted, and perhaps lightly seasoned greens, not a mouthful of lawn clippings. Alas, I'll simply have to choose a different of their many appetizing-sounding benedict options on my next visit. Finally, corned beef hash was a standout. Perhaps the best version of this I've had, the kitchen managed to integrate the flavors across the various components, achieve nice carmelization, and do so without turning the corned beef into shoe leather. Delicious, and a definite go-to option. I've written previously on this site about the excellent breakfast service available up the street at Jak's, and while that retains a slight edge in my view, Fins offers a very fine alternative. Add in the fact that they remain inexplicably underpatronized on weekend mornings (perhaps owning to location and association with the Village Theater), and you have a great option to mix it up or beat the crowds. read more

Far exceeded my expectations! We had eaten here a couple times earlier this year and really loved it. With all the COVID-19 stuff, we've been eating at home primarily. We cautiously placed an order for take out, and I was very pleased we did. The food was amazing and at a great price, but the thing I was most impressed with, was how organized and diligent they were with regard to personal space and cleaning. They had set up table/barriers to separate customers from the restaurant staff. I don't know where to start with this place...I love it. I've loved it since the first time I tried it years ago and simply feel bad that I'm just now getting around to singing its praises. We had dinner here last week for my b-day dinner. Nothing too fancy...frankly it was just perfect. The service was genuine and exemplary...exactly what I have come to expect. They set the standards high and meet or exceed every time I am there. My wine was great...my wedge salad with shrimp was really tasty...the scallop appetizer we got was phenomenal and I completely plan on going back to get it as a main dish. The apple tart we got for dessert was very good as well. Then there was everyone elses food...my beau got the meatloaf (which had pine nuts, sun dried tomatoes and spinach mixed in) and he loved it! My son had the calamari & bread pudding...and he would've ordered seconds on both if I would've allowed him. The atmosphere here is quaint and can be very romantic in the evening. The patio seating is great on the warm summer nights and it's fun to watch the theatre crowd hustle in and out. Very good place for a quick brunch, and lunch. It was our first visit and we chose this venue for lunch. We ordered a grilled chicken sandwich on artisan bun, and a Reuben sandwich. The quantity was actually a bit heavy for me. But one of the best sandwiches we've had. They also offer a choice of mixed greens salad, and chowder soup for sandwiches, other than fries. Their mixed salad is fresh and unique. Worth a try. The service is very punctual and friendly, we got seated rather fast. It's a cozy place so can be bit noisy, and also the parking is a bit difficult during peak hours. But all in all, a very nice place with good food, and a good menu. Thumb up! read more

My wife and I took a chance and dropped in with no reservations. We were in no hurry so wasn't a big deal. Even though the wait was Around an hour plus. The host was able to find us a table much quicker. Service was great. We were brought drinks while waiting. The food was great. Because of items being sold out as it was a busy evening we actually had to settle on our second choice on appetizers and our third choice on the meal.
