Phenomenal steaks and sides. Meat was cooked to perfection. Far bigger portions than I would have thought with an excellent wine and craft beer selection for aficionados of either. The service is what truly stands out. Pam and Michelle were our servers and each was an absolute delight. The manager, Patrick, came around to see how everything was, but in a very natural way while having fun with us; not pushy or awkwardly "managerial". Reservations are a must though for this place. Yes, this is a hotel restaurant (it's attached to the Courtyard), but you would never be able to tell once inside. The decor is soothing and gorgeous: wood accents, glass-ensconced candles flickering everywhere, modern dining tables and chairs with clean lines. This is the type of place that opens its arms and wraps you inside. Plus, any place with $1 oysters is five stars is my book -- it's a shame it is only on Monday nights; I really lucked out with that one. I can't recall what type of oysters they were, but they were delicious and well-shucked, served with all of the appropriate accoutrements. The menu has a little bit of something for everyone: steaks, sushi, seafood, pasta, salads and sandwiches. For dinner I had grilled Atlantic grouper with a side of stir-fried Asian vegetables -- fish was grilled well, and the vegetables were an interesting assortment of everything from broccoli and carrots to celery and water chestnuts. The portions were rather large, but since my meal was so light, I left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. My glass of Kris pinot grigio was the perfect wine for my meal, but at $11 a glass, it was a tad pricey. Obviously the oysters were only $1 each, and my entree was $24 and change. All together, not a bad value. Service was attentive and prompt, very professional. Our waitress seemed to understand exactly when to come over to the table and which questions to ask. I certainly appreciate that. My only regret is I didn't have room to try the double-stacked apple pie for dessert. I have stayed at the Marriott several times for business but never tried the restaurant until my last visit. WOW, this place is amazing. Such a fun spot for guest and locals. A bit loud for meetings, but perfect for unwinding after a long day. Vibrant bar scene which transfers over into the restaurant. Great sushi selections, steaks are perfectly prepared, seafood dishes are fresh and inventive, and the desserts are scrumptious. I am a mac n'cheese snob and to my surprise when we went there for our Intern's Goodbye Lunch, they had a seafood mac n'cheese special. It was SUPERB! We've been to Fire and Oak many times over the last few years and have always had outstanding service and food. We've taken friends and family who have all agreed. Most recently, we went on a Friday night with another couple. We started with the Mac and Cheese which is always finger lickin good! We also got the fried oysters over homemade coleslaw, which was excellent. For our main dishes, we got the veal milanese, the ahi tuna salad, the bacon cheeseburger, and the braised short rib sandwich. The veal was as good as we've had in the best Italian restaurants. The ahi tuna is always fresh and perfectly seared and seasoned. My friend raved that the bacon cheese burger was cooked and seasoned perfectly, even though my friend is picky. Her husband had the short ribs and couldn't stop raving. The bar has all top shelf liquor and generous pours. Between us, we had a Riesling, a Bloody Mary, a vodka tonic, and a Manhattan. The service was attentive and professional. We came on a Friday night with no reservations and had to wait for a table, but it was all worth it. Can't wait to go back! read more

Pretty damn good hotel restaurant, perfect for a corporate group lunch/dinner. For Chestnut Ridge Road, this is my favorite restaurant - pretty good prices with some great food options and decent craft beer options (River Horse Weizen Bock on draft today). First, the food. They have a great salad with sushi-grade tuna, mango, and lots of other stuff - very fresh and nice. The burger is solid, and the steaks definitely do the job. Second, the bar - Pretty decent selection with some good craft beers, good wine bottles, and good mixed drink capabilities, plus 3-4 plasma TVs. Third, the venue - It's a pretty cool place, dark, chill. The main dining room (behind the bar) can get on the louder side, but also easy to get a table for 12, 16, 20 even if need be. There's a seating area above this to the back of the restaurant, while it looks cool it definitely becomes an echo chamber up there, beware. I feel odd giving a hotel restaurant 4 stars, but Fire & Oak brings it, so it deserves it. read more

The food has been consistently good everytime I've gone. Half priced Sushi on Tuesdays is great. I've only sat at the tables by the bar and the service has ranged from great to terrible. It's a hit or miss depending the server. Overall, the decor and ambience is very chic and great for a date. I usually always have a good time here, but the waitstaff needs to be more consistent with their service. The last time i was there we had just an awful experience because the waitress was unattentive and dissappeared at the end of our meal that we had to ask the bartender for our check. read more

Very LOUD! I was staying at the attached hotel and planned to dine in until I walked in (on a Wednesday night ) and it was so loud I couldn't even hear myself think. I asked (practically yelling) the hostess for a peek at the menu so that I could just do room service but alas they don't deliver the same menu to the rooms. I was referred to a different menu and made my selections. A roasted beet salad & sweet corn chowder soup and while they had good flavor the portions are much too small for the price. Beautiful place inside which is really unexpected when looking from the outside! Went on a Saturday night and parking was hard to find, so you know it's a popular place! Was with a big group so we got lots of apps including sushi, quesadillas, chicken, calamari.. everything delish! My entree was the fish burger which was a salmon mixed patty.. fancy fish sandwich! It was really delicious for being a simple order. My absolute favorite drink here is the ginger pear lychee martini.. had 2! I even made this my signature drink at my wedding reception! Fire & Oak - An American Grill is a hidden treasure nestled next the Marriott Courtyard in Montvale. Earlier in the week we follower a tip with a flyer to Fire & Oak along with friends from Rockland & a couple newly moved to Woodcliff Lake. The Manager Patrick went out of his way to make all of us feel as good about the service as we felt about the superior food served up on a very busy Wednesday evening. The ample portions were only exceeded by the variety of fare and quality of taste. Served around the table were the following after a "Brief" selection of BYOB red wines: Caesar Salad, Buffalo Mozzarella & Beefsteak Tomatoes, Steak, Blackened Swordfish, Scalloped Potatoes, Sautéed Spinach finished off with the Manager's Special - 6 amazing deserts that would tempt any dieter into relapse. I stopped in here for a late lunch in between lunch and dinner. This is usually a weird time at most restaurants. So I just sat at the bar where they had a limited menu. I've been here plenty of times it's so close to my house so I know the deal. I sat at the bar by myself and had a snack. I got some very fresh Kumamoto oysters and a 2 gin martinis and was on my way. I've dined here plenty of times and have never been disappointed. The owner/manager Josh stopped over to say hello as he always does. As a fairly regular patron others may or may not have the same experience, but, I always feel more than welcome here. Fire and Oak is perfect and I'd recommend it to anyone. read more

Fire & Oak is trendy, sophisticated and chic; I loved the decor, the overall vibe and the funky bathroom entrance. And it was convenient to have the NYC experience just moments from home. I stopped by for a quick drink and I was fairly impressed by the large drink portions. Their shots are also heavy handed. Two of my friends went with large plates of ribs which they happily devoured, while another friend had a large plate of sushi with eel. It was also impressively presented with a good portion of the eel coming out of both ends of the roll. Although we were in a small section on the upper balcony in the backroom, the noise was still absolutely deafening. Seated at a table of five, I had a hard time hearing the person just next to me. If they toned down the noise and someone lent me their expense account, I could do some serious damage on this place. read more

It's a cold and rainy night in Montvale and you step inside this wide open space with friendly hosts and just a great vibe - well, it doesn't get better than that. I was dining out with a rather large group, so service can go either way in this scenario. For us, the service was great - multiple servers, courses were well timed and overall, we enjoyed the experience. I'm from Philadelphia, so my view is a bit skewed. I've been seeking a place with a modern feel and this is the spot in all of Montvale that I'd ilke to have a drink. The bar is incredible - with multiple bottles of wine making the back wall. I visited Montvale, NJ for business and I brought along my lady to keep me company during the times I was not working. Since this was both our first time in Montvale, and we were hungry, we took the recommendation from a service desk employee at the Hilton to dine there. At first glance, you notice that it is infused at the hip with the Marriott hotel, which personally kind of diminishes the restaurants curb appeal but no biggy. When we walked in, I was amazed at the atmosphere as it completely change to an exceptional, low-lit, romantic dinning experience. The host said they were busy, but we were both shocked after telling them it was our first time, he sat us down at a table right away. Interesting but it really made me feel important, and cared for. The seating was just a tad to close to others, (to the point you can hear the conversations as if you are inclusive in it). Food was outstanding, I had the 10oz Filet Mingon Medium Rare and it was cooked to perfection! Worth the cost! Service was exceptional as well! Bar - Fire & Oak is our happy hour hangout after work. We have celebrated many promotions, farewells and birthdays here. Bar area is great, good food &drinks, also great service, Erin is absolutely wonderful!!! Place gets pretty crowded during weekdays as well. Parmesan truffle fries are a favorite. You can't just stop eating them. We love them so much, we have ordered them when we were here for lunch every time as well. Restaurant - Only did lunch at the restaurant on weekdays. Great decor, never seen the place get crowded. But then they do have a huge space. Again, great service and food. I have tried these soo far - Beets salad, not a fan of beets but liked the salad - Rotisserie chicken, perfectly seasoned organic chicken! I wish they came with vegetables though instead of fries. - Crab cakes, not big on these but I thought it was pretty good - veg flat bread, liked the flavors but too greasy for me - Fish burger, yumm yumm yummm They also have a penne pasta on their menu served with rotisserie chicken which you can substitute with vegetables. Fire & Oak is the restaurant attached to the Marriott in Montvale. I've been here a few times for lunch and dinner and every time I have tried a different part of the menu. They have oysters, burgers, steaks, even sushi. It's an unorthodox mix of foods for one menu but they make it work. Each night of the week they have a different special, Monday night is $1 oysters which brings in a big crowd. If you want to skip food it's great for just drinks. I would say the beer selection is good not great, better for cocktails. It's a little pricey but not out of control considering the area. read more

Excellent wait staff, very good food, but unfortunately the Maitre D maintains an attitude that is unacceptable for a place this good. We were denied seating in the bar/lounge area despite 2-3 tables obviously wide open. She was gruff/rude and claimed that they were all reserved and seated us in a location by the waiter supply area. Really enjoy the bar area for the atmosphere and TV's etc. We could still see the seats that were allegedly 'reserved' from our table. When we left about 2 hours later, the tables were still open and the same person at the front desk completely ignored us as we walked towards the exit. Maybe she deemed we weren't 'young enough' to be in the bar area. Whatever the reason it was disappointing indeed. She's the first person that interacts with customers and usually the last. I would think that the restaurant owner would prefer a more courteous person in this key spot. We can certainly find friendlier places to eat at. For the most part, we've experienced that places are overly courteous and thankful that we are in their restaurant during the pandemic, supporting them. This is not one of those places. If you can somehow get seated without dealing with the rude front desk, the wait staff is terrific and the food is very good. read more

My family and I visit Fire & Oak at least 3 times a month not including when we order take out! By far one of the best restaurants in Bergen County. The crab cakes, beet salad, tuna salad, and halibut are a must. The sushi is spectacular. The ambiance in the restaurant is like you are in the city. Highly recommend eating here! read more

I had dinner there tonite with three friends and except for the enormous volume from two unruly tables. It was a very nice dinner. Not for kids though although if the parents are well mannered and can control their younguns it's really not a problem. The party of amy and company were rude and loud and complaining while their child ran up and down the aisle howling. Sort of spoiled the night but Patrick handled it with dignity and good sense. I wasn't sure about this place, once I stepped in on the inside I was amazed. It looks so small from the outside, it was a little deceiving. I felt like I was in a secret society, this place really wraps around. Went here for my grandmothers 78th birthday. We treated her with the 5 course special. Everything was beautiful, I just loved looking around, the wine bottles behind us were a bit scary, but exciting at the same time. I ate with a thrill. Service was great. The atmosphere is fun but the seating is way too close to have a private dinner. The food was nice. We had the chicken lollipops which are fancy wings, the seafood risotto, scalloped potatoes and the filet. The potatoes were not very cheesy... The cream sauce was lacking in flavor almost as though it was just the base and they forgot the cheese. The service was very disappointing for the caliber of the prices and the prestige of the atmosphere. Our waiter disappeared for quite some time to the extent both us and the table next to us had to get a different waiter for drinks. When our original waiter returned way after we were finished with our meals and drinks he didn't even acknowledge his absence. I would return again to try for better service. read more

I checked into the Courtyard by Marriott on a trip for work, and typically deal with standard chain and fast food on these trips. But this time, with the fortune of having an excellent surprise of finding out at check in that they had a restaurant and bar on premises, I got far more than I would have imagined. I travel a lot and typical restaurants and bars that may be in a hotel (rare these days) are ok at best. I have to say this is one of the best places I have been to in years. The selection at the bar is outstanding and the food is almost beyond description. I've been to some high-end places in my time from Vegas to LA, but hands down one of the best. If you happen in the area, highly recommend The Hawaiian rib eye. one of the best steaks I have ever had. That was night 2. The first night I had the Fire and Oak burger, which was simply awesome! Where do I begin? WOW ! I literally have nothing to say but WOW ! For starters we had the mac n' cheese and I had 2 plates because I couldn't understand why it was so delicious. My boyfriend had the "cowboy" ribeye (let's just say when he took a bite he closed his eyes & wouldn't speak to me until he was done...I know he's a little dramatic but honestly I'm couldn't blame him) the steak was delicious. I 'll just have to come back to see I had the burger and my bf had the kobe beef burger, just to compare what each taste. while i didnt notice that much of a difference, my bf said that his beef is more tender? i'm not much of a burger person so i wouldnt know. the decor is amazing. the place is so much bigger than it looks! if i didnt know that the place was connected to marriot, i definitely would have missed it. overall a good experience... oh i almost forgot to mention... the fries were banging =-) lol as for the drinks, ...since i have bartended in the past...i would say it could use more of a variety. not bad for an american restaurant! read more

This place is sooooooo delicious! :-) To start off the decor is very trendy manhattan style which I love since I'm a big city girl. It's definitely upbeat atmosphere, but very relaxing to be in. For drinks I had a berry bubbly which is prosecco, fresh strawberry purée, and grand marnier float. So crisp and refreshing! I also had the Rogue hazelnut brown nectar beer. If you're a major hazelnut freak like me you'll love it. For appetizer I had amazing spicy tuna roll. The creamy sauce they made into heart shapes was sooo pretty and delicious. They also added on the side some hot and sweet peppers which gave a really nice kick. For my entree I got the crabmeat encrusted Atlantic grouper with a creamy champagne sauce and basmati rice. WOW! It was so flavorful and delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. I was certain that I had no room for dessert, but when I laid eyes on the words "triple vanilla cheesecake" yup that did it for me. It had Oreo crust, strawberries, and fresh whipped cream. Simply delicious. Our waitress was nice even though she took a little too long with simple things we asked for, but I give this place a two thumbs up, I will definitely be returning. read more

One thing you should know before coming to dine "in the park" during Covid - anything you order that is "liquid" must be paid for in cash AND must be paid for up front. Meaning your total beverage order is not totaled up and charged at the end of the evening - you are expected to pay separately for each individual drink. Fine. Paying for water? Not fine. $4 for a bottle of Fiji water because they claim they are unable to offer tap water due to Covid. (Meanwhile no other restaurant in the area has this restriction) also, don't try to order anything like a martini because they "don't have a shaker behind the bar" - meaning all of the cocktails you're paying ridiculous prices for are pre-made. read more
