On work trip. Wanted Sushi. Co worker said 1/2 price sushi at her hotel (she happened to be staying at the courtyard, didn't realize restaurant was hotel at this time). Hopped on yelp later in day looking for sushi and Fire and Oak came up, and reviewers talked abotu 1/2 price sushi on Tuesdays. Ok, I gots to go. It's a bizarre looking entrance, but then enter into a hip club. Loud, dark, and pretty much filled. Had a decent vibe. I asked if it was 1/2 price sushi, said yes. So far so good. Ordered a glass of red wine. Then ordered two rolls, a toasted coconut shrimp role and a mango salmon. The Coco Shrimp was pretty good. It was chewier than I thought it should be at first bite. Shrimp wasn't tempura which I preferred. The mango though in the other role was hard. Lucy...we got an issue. Mango, shoudn't be hard. So it wasn't ripe. So really I thought the rolls were just ok. Then the bill came, only one roll was 1/2 off. Lucyyyy...we gots another issue. I asked about it. She said 'only the first 3 rolls are'. 1st 3 of the 8 they have? Really? The food is consistently good here. We eat here frequently since we live in the neighborhood and it never disappoints us. The specials are imaginative and everyone on the staff is great to deal with - from the manager (Patrick) to the wait staff. They offer sushi which comes with interesting sauces and the Bartender makes the best Cosmo around. The ribs are very tasty and the steaks are great. Try the BLT salad. And fish and meat specials are always delish. It's a great place for families because they have something for everyone. Ambiance is nice too. Great restaurant especially for business lunch and dinner. I've been here for both and was never disappointed. The atmosphere is chic and modern as it resides in a hotel. The staff is friendly and attentive, the menu is extensive and eclectic. I enjoy the seafood and have had the tuna salad and some special fish dishes. My favorite treat is the truffle fries. They are ridiculously decadent and delicious! You won't regret the splurge. Parking can be a bit tricky at times but it's not impossible. Enjoy! read more

I went there few times since my last reviews and this place is really a bomb knowing this is in a middle of nowhere in NJ (no offense). Whether you just want to hit the trendy bar or eat. I really enjoy Fire and Oak. Why? Many reasons. We've been here many times before but today I decided to give my review. I love the bar area immensely. There's great energy here at the bar and as busy as it was Saturday night, they kept up with our empty glasses at every turn and we were a party of 8 and all finishing up drinks at different times. Pretty impressed. About an hour of cocktails at the bar we went to the back to our table. Loved the waitress, she was able to put up with our sick adult drunk humor. That's bonus points right there. We started with the parmesan truffle fries, macaroni and cheese and the sushi platter for appetizers. They were really quite good. Main meal, I had the pasta dish minus the rotisserie chicken, being a vegetarian. It was very good. Hubby had the ahi tuna and said it was cooked very well. Everyone really liked there dinner and than of course, dessert. Carrot cake, a peanut butter and chocolate cake and than a chocolate cake with 8 forks. Been here three times before and while the food and service is good the noise level is very annoying. There was a table of 5 woman talking as loud as can be when one of them let out with a unreal scream (laughing). The whole restaurant in that area looked over and many were annoyed. I was sitting across from my wife and I could barely have a conversation. No more for us! read more

i came here last week with my mom for dinner. great food and great service. my server was NJ. she was attentive and friendly. i will definitely request to have her serve me again the next time i come. for our appetizer, my mom and i got the mac & cheese and spinach & artichoke dip. for our entrees, we split the fusilli pasta and the braised filet mignon quesadillas. everything was super delicious!!! and generous portions too!! read more

First off let me start by saying that the decor is absolutely beautiful. So modern and cool. I love to meet my friends here for some appetizers and we inevitably end up having many bottles of wine. They truly have an excellent wine list. It is rare to find a place that serves so many different kinds of food and does them all well. Honestly the sushi is spectacular and so are the burgers. They messed up my main course multiple times I guess someone at the kitchen was having a bad day but the bartender and the manager really went out of their way to make sure I enjoyed my dinner. Oh my, what a wonderful experience! Just left Fire & Oak. I had the Beef Short Rib sandwich with Horseradish cole slaw. My husband had the special halibut dinner. Food was great, but the service was better than excellent. James was our server. Even though he had several tables busy at the same time, he was so attentive and little extra attentive things he did made such a difference. They warmed the milk that was served on the side with my coffee! I'lll definitely go back for the food, but it's the service that was so out of the ordinary! The only reason I didn't rate the place 5 stars is because once the restaurant filled up the noise level was really bad. We could hardly hear each other across the table. read more

Love this place, I go every couple of months, order their AMAZING swordfish and a drink and I have never left unsatisfied. The atmosphere is amazing, the food is fantastic, and the staff is almost always great. The only issue I have is their dessert is lacking. Very few options and none worth paying for. If I was them I would do a revamp of that menu. They have some pretty innovative and creative menu choices and I wish they would do that with their desserts but overall 10/10 Love this place! read more

When one of my managers told me that we were eating at a place that was in the Courtyard Marriot I already knew my boss's delicate pallet would cringe when he found out, but we already had reservations so he had to deal with it. When we walked in we all were surprised at the ambiance. The lighting was very warm and inviting and the décor was trendy but comfortable. My boss actually complimented it (Shocker!). The waiter comes over and he is very sweet. I wish I would have remembered his name but I was already two Kettle and clubs in from the pregame at our hotel. So we started with drinks. Kettle and club for me (of course) and a bottle of Pinot Noir for the boys, and one for me too :-). The wine was delicious. For a Pinot Noir it wasn't heavy at all. I wish I got the name of it but... So our nameless, sweet waiter comes over to take our order. We start off with the raw bar sampler. It was delicious. The oysters were super fresh and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. I had to remember where I was when I got tempted to lick the little cup that the aioli was in. It was that good. So I ordered the pan roasted North Atlantic halibut. It was accompanied by a rock shrimp polenta. The halibut was seasoned and cooked perfectly. It went so well with the salsa verde.The polenta??? Ehhh... Not a fan. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty but I think I would have preferred a mash instead. My boss had the same and he kept on with the compliments (Shocker!). Because an excellent meal and a bunch of drinks weren't enough calories for the day I ordered desert. Why not?! So I had the carrot cake. My boss had some warm apple something with ice cream that he made me try, even though I really don't like fruit deserts but I took a bite, smiled and nodded because he is my boss. I guess his was good if you like that kinda desert. My other manager got the cheesecake. They all looked great. I thought my carrot cake was good. If it wasn't for the ice cream the cake would have been slightly on the dry side. My boss said it was dry (Shocker!) but he was right that time. All in all... Very good. Great night. read more

Took my girlfriend to Fire & Oak last Saturday night. we were both very pleased. Trendy, cool vibe. we started with the muscles fra diavlo and they were above average. sauce could have used a touch more kick, but the muscles were tender and tasty. she ordered the crab crusted grouper. Was flavorful and well prepared. I ordered the Kobe beef burger and it was spot on. One of the top ten burgers I have had in NJ. Wine list was not extremely extensive, but they had a Chilean Cab that I like, so we were happy. the key lime pie was so so, but all in all, its a pretty cool place with good food. read more

We were here just for happy hour, but this place is pretty hip for the hood in my opinion! You can tell I'm also 'hip for my hood' because I made use of alliteration by juxtaposing the word 'hip' and 'hood' in the same sentence. :) The good thing about this restaurant is if you find yourself imprisoned at your nearby hotel with no car, ask for a shuttle to this restaurant. It will be a welcome departure from the torture of room service food. The bar is lively, with a young happy hour crowd and contemporary decor. After work it was buzzing with a young crowd, some dressed in work attire, some in thier hoochie finest. The appetizers were impressive, the fries came in an iron dutch oven, sprinkeled with truffle oil and parmesean cheese. They only sprinkle truffle oil on it so they can charge $11, but the taste is phenomenal non the less! Negatives were that it was pretty crowded around the 7 pm dinner hour, and we left to dine at a more intimate restaurant where we could hear ourselves talk. I visited Montvale, NJ for business and decided to eat at Fire & Oak since it was conveniently located at the hotel I was staying. I've eaten here in the past and I was very pleased with the service and food, but this time not so much. I order the special of the day, Halibut and it was not properly cooked (it was raw in the middle). I thought I was having Sushi. When I pointed this out to the waitress she did apologize and asked me if I wanted something else. I decided to order a steak and it was OK, however I was expecting some form of discount as good will gesture for the inadequate meal and they had the nerve to charge me full price. Sit at the bar! Bartenders are great (NYC quality) drinks are top notch! Oddly attached to a Marriott courtyard, so if you live locally, expect and influx of business travelers for most of the week. What's the right word for this place? Boring, maybe. It's just a typical chain. No interesting flavor combinations and most of the menu options are dishes that you could find anywhere....and you would typically find better versions. The truffle parmesan fries are pretty good, though a bit greasy. The lollipop chicken is just disgusting -- so sweet it could be dessert. Nearly every meat dish I've had has been overcooked (grilled chicken sandwich was super dry), but the seared tuna steak salad was cooked beautifully. The sesame tuna flatbread is the only meal that used adventuresome flavors, but the flavors don't work well together and I'm surprised they haven't modified their recipe. Entrees are overpriced so you'd do well to stick with the appetizers, salads, or burgers/sandwiches. I have not tried their steak or ribs. read more
