For appetizers we had 4/6 of the items on the menu and we really enjoyed all of them. Our personal favorites being the dirty Mac and cheese and spinach artichoke dip. Even though the nachos weren't the best we've ever had the fact that every single chip had an equal amount of toppings was a absolute win in our book! For entrees we had a little bit of everything. From the inferno and popper burgers to the carnivore flatbreads to the Grueben (Grouper Reuben) Sandwich everything was very fresh and tasted great! Of course we couldn't finish the night without dessert, so we ordered both desserts that they had available. The s'mores brownie and the bread pudding were both a fantastic way to end the night. I've had this place bookmarked on Yelp for awhile and finally decided to try it out. Visited on a weekday night so it wasn't busy and parking was easy to find in front of the restaurant. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our waiter for the evening was friendly, attentive, and helpful in making recommendations. I decided on the Pulled Pork Nachos as an appetizer and they were delicious. They were overflowing with toppings instead of chips. I tried the Mango Voodoo cocktail and it was pretty good. For my entree, I went with the Fish & Chips from the House Favorites portion of the menu. I really liked my meal and the dipping sauces definitely helped to set it off. This is the favorite restaurant of every person I know. At least, that's what it feels like. I hear lots of rave reviews for Fire by the Monon. I have to say, this is a pretty great place. It's especially great for meeting up with people for a drink, or catching up over appetizers, or just getting a beer and relaxing on the patio. They have a lot of beers and mixed drinks on their menu. I got the pulled pork nachos. I've had better, but the pint of beer I had with them made them taste even better. They are a tad spicy, just so you know. One of the people in my party got the pork tenderloin, and holy moly: That thing was big. I think it was the biggest pork tenderloin I've ever seen. Throughout the pandemic this restaurant has quickly adjusted to changing conditions and has been very attuned to the health and safety of staff and patrons. Yet while I followed all of their communication online, we still had not ordered from here. We did tonight and we'll be ordering much more in the future. We ordered carry out and the person who took my order was very courteous. The order was ready when promised and my hubs also noted the pickup personnel were nice. Now for the food. Our order was 100 percent correct. My hubs had the Cobb salad with chicken added. It was a very large dinner salad and the chicken was packaged separately to keep the lettuce from wilting. Hubs said he would order that again. I had the fish and chips. My portion was also huge-3 nice size pieces of fish and a large serving of French fries (I had about half the fries left over because I was stuffed!). The beer batter was light and crispy and the fish tasted great. I've only had fish and chips a few times in Indy and this was one of the best. I would definitely order this again, though there is more I want to try on the menu. I'm looking forward to spring/summer nights to take advantage of their outdoor seating and try more of the menu! read more

I am merely here because I would love speak of the character of the owner of this restaurant; Joe I had the pleasure of working with Joe for just two months, operating a very busy restaurant with high demand in San Diego around 2005. All it took was two days for me to realize that Joe is a person of outstanding character; he gives every single person a fair shot, he wears his heart on his sleeve and he truly wishes the best experience for anyone who walks into his place of business. Though I have not seen Joe for sixteen years, he continues to be a mentor of mine. As I have continued to operate within the food and beverage business from San Diego to Las Vegas to Los Angeles, it's Joe's standards that I hope to live up to. My husband and I decided to have lunch in broad ripple after reading the yelp reviews, I had the bacon bourbon siracha which was amazing and so big, I only end up eating half and hubby had the smoky bear burger along with these huge amazing onion rings. The customer service I've experienced here is what brings me back! I want to note both times I dined in with less than an hour before closing! NOT once did I feel rushed. There is a server named BRAD! He is the best. We went as far as asking him work schedule so we will go when he is there The FOOD is delicious! It's always cooked to perfection. There is minimal seasoning which in my opinion is preferred. Portion size is fulfilling and priced just right. The special sauce that they serve with the sweet potato fries and onion rings is sooo GOOD. The only negative I have about this place is the table we sat at was near this giant floor vent and the A/C was on full blast. It was an easy fix by moving to the other side of the table . Was able to escape for a lunch date and had tagged this place to try. So glad we did. It's in Broad Ripple, so parking is usually a bit of a challenge, but I found a spot pretty quickly, and it was a beautiful day outside so nice to have a little walk. Got seated right away and everything on the menu looked really good. We saw a waiter walk by with the tenderloin sandwich which was massive. It looked so good, but decided to go with something else since that was so big. My wife got the Grouper Reuben with onion rings which was a super unique sandwich and we both thought it was delicious. I went with the Inferno Burger which was a hamburger patty with pulled pork and 2 large onion rings. It was huge and also very good. I had to take half of it home and it heated up well for dinner that night. We loved the atmosphere and the waiters were all very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful. My favorite restaurant in the Broadripple area. They do a great job here with a wide selection of bar drinks and wine. The food is some of the finest in Indy and the atmosphere only adds to the experience. On one particular evening I ordered the steak special. Rarely do I eat beef steaks anymore, but our waiter described the plate so vividly that I had to try it. Wow, just like that I love steaks again. So tender and the fixings made it even juicier. Patio tables outside are very popular and on a nice evening with a gentle breeze this is where you need to be. Love it here on weekends and evenings through the week. Oh yeah, it's kid friendly and they serve up food that kids like. The bar area has dining available if you don't like the kid friendly part, or if you just don't want to wait for a table. I went out for lunch with coworkers during a weekday, no wait and we fortunately found parking outside the restaurant right away. (Broad Ripple is known for the lack of parking spaces). The service was generally good and the outdoor atmosphere was great. I got the fish tacos which I enjoyed the change of typical fish, they used tilapia instead of mahi mahi which I enjoyed but the lack of flavor was disappointing. The nachos are set on the plate as single servings, rather than the mess of chips and nachos you sometimes see at restaurants. Maybe I want to feel fancy when I have nachos. I'm okay with that. On to taste! I needed a whole order of the Mac just for myself, it was so good. It might read as a little spicy if you're not used to spice. This place is like a cozy blanket- we settled in and didn't want to leave. The atmosphere was just so...warm. The lights were dim and there were fire heaters outside the window that gave the place a cool glow. Our server had waters on our table before we were even completely seated and our food came out within about ten minutes. I ordered a chicken sandwich with mushrooms and caramelized onions that came with a side salad. Not kidding- the side salad was brought out within about five minutes (and I was there on a Friday night). The place was pleasantly busy and the server had helpful recommendations. I had lunch here last weekend; bonus points for being open on Sunday! We ate on the patio which was quiet and delightful! I had a "greuben" sandwich, which featured a really huge grouper fillet that was breaded and fried. The fish was flaky and delicious, and the way it extended so far past the marble rye bread made me think of a tenderloin. I'm not sure the sandwich reminded me much of a reuben, but it was a tasty fish sandwich! The sweet potato fries were fine; nothing too exciting, standard likely frozen waffle cut, but good! My friend had a Cobb salad with shrimp; she really enjoyed it and it did look very good! The beer selection is great! I had an Indian Brown Ale which was something I hadn't seen before, so had to try it! It reminded me a bit of a porter and I enjoyed it! Sadly, they had no desserts. It was my first full day in Indianapolis. Actually my first full day in the Midwest, period. I was visiting the headquarters for the company I work for, and my boss suggested that I visit Broad Ripple for dinner since it's apparently a young, hip neighborhood. After a broad Yelp search, I decided to dine at Fire by the Monon. Unfortunately I didn't come fully prepared for Midwest weather that day. I brought an umbrella but left it where I was staying. And of course... It rains. When the downpour finally subsided enough for me to bus over to the restaurant, I walked in and was immediately greeted by the friendly hostesses. They got me seated (woo table for one!) and my waiter Ted introduced himself to me. This is by far one of the best dining experiences I've had to date. The quality of the food and the excellent service showed me true Midwestern hospitality. I started with an IPA (there were 4 or 5 of them on the menu) while deciding on my main courses. Ted brought over a few other samplers he thought I would like, which was so sweet of him! I knew I wanted the Dirty Mac N Cheese, but I was in a dilemma over my main entrée. There was a salmon on the menu, but Ted had told me about an agave salmon special. Since he recommended it, I took his advice... And I'm so glad I did. Agave salmon sounded weird to me at first, but it tasted amazing. It was cooked to perfection, not too dry or undercooked. It was atop a bed of flavored rice and served with a side of grilled asparagus. I'm salivating at the memory of this dish. So good!! When it started to rain outside again, Ted assured me that I could take my time. Everyone who works here is so sweet. It's a great place to take a date, friends, family, or even eat alone like I did. Randomly hungry at 3pm on a Saturday...and I am SO happy we decided to stop at Fire By the Monon. When you walk in, the smell alone is intoxicating. I love a good barbequey-smokey-smelling place. Yum. We opted to sit at a high table in the bar area and had the place to ourselves for most of the meal. Service = amazing. Haylee did everything to ensure we were well taken care of without hovering. Great selection of drafts from local and other breweries. We opted for the Tin Man Cafe Leche Porter and the Scarlet Lane Dorian Cranberry Espresso Stout. Both were dark and delicious. The hubs ordered the Inferno Burger -- a hamburger topped with BBQ pulled pork and 2 huge onion rings. FIRE. So tasty! I had the River Sandie -- Grilled Salmon filet on a nicely toasted bun with the usual fixins and the roasted veggies as a side. Really really good all the way around. I wished my salmon filet was bigger to fill that bun, but it was good. Being my birthday weekend, we splurged on the house made S'Mores Brownie for dessert. Our server made sure to put the ice cream on the side and even brought out the chocolate and caramel sauce containers to ensure my husband could have them due to his specific allergies. SO attentive of her. $6 a pint, $8 for a huge dessert, and about 10 bucks per sandie = $40 well spent. We will TOTALLY return -- and hope to sit outside on the amazing patio once it warms up.
