We had coupons (dine in only) saved from over a year ago when we ordered carry out because it was closed due to Covid, so we had waited a LONG time to be able to go back here! Finally we were able to return for dinner. We can early on a Friday night, around 5:30 and there was no wait. The food was delicious - their fish tacos and sweet potato fries are DELISH! Portions are generous and the service was pretty solid. I do think it's a tad overpriced - even with our $20 in coupons, the bill came out to about $25, and we only had 2 entrees, 1 appetizer, and no drinks. We went in for lunch today and were greeted by the rudest hostess I've ever met. She barely acknowledged me and then said, "Well how many?" Then she stared at me like I'd forgotten something and said "Come on, inside or outside?" When we picked an outside table, she refused to allow us to select one with an umbrella or in the shade even though plenty were available. The only thing on fire by the Monon now is my skin. Props to our server Israel who went above and beyond to try to make sure we still had a great dining experience even though the hostess treated us so incredibly negatively. The ambiance is grand, the food is delicious. Each dish we tried was at least a 3.5 out of 5. I HIGHLY recommend the pulled pork mac and cheese! easily the best macaroni and cheese i have ever had in my life. it would be just as good without the meat because the gouda in the cheese mix was simply decadent. My wife, my giant dog, and I visited Fire! On a sunny Wednesday for dinner and a drink on the patio. I've never been to fire for dinner during the week. During weekend visits, I tend to allow myself to indulge in their comfort food. On this visit, I decided to give their healthier choices a whirl. I ordered the berry spinach salad, add Salmon, and my wife went with the cobb, add chicken. We both had the dressing served on the side, as they don't have any light dressings. While we enjoyed our drinks on the patio, it took quite a long time to assemble the salads (circa 20 minutes). Finally, they arrived. Both salads were a good size portion for a dinner entrée, but very hard to eat with the dressing on the side. I appreciate how much spinach was in my salad, and I understand getting the dressing on the side was my fault, but it was hard to dress the salad in the bowl. Doing it over again, I would just ask for the chef to use a small amount of dressing when assembling my salad. On my next healthy visit, I plan to tackle one of their fish entrees with a healthy vegetable side. Overall, it was a good visit. My main problem is the cost. I know, its local, and I understand paying a bit extra for that. But, they don't really run any specials. I had 2 of the "special" pints, which was still $4 each on a Wednesday. My wife had 1 glass of wine, which was $7. Both salads, after adding a protein, were about $15. So we walked out close to $60 for dinner. That's just too much to do as a casual mid-week meal. If they want to attract a more frequent crowd, they need to add some specials and/or additional options for a better value. I'm sticking with a solid 4 stars. I love the patio, I love the atmosphere, I love how they treat my dog, and I love that Inferno Burger. But I just can't afford to eat here as frequently as I'd like. read more

Up sides: The restaurant is far enough from the main drag of Broad Ripple that you can actually find parking. There is even a little parking in front of the restaurant. The food is reasonably priced. For instance, my husband and I shared a veggie flatbread and it cost $8.95. One of the other parties in our group got the fish tacos and said they were wonderful. Down sides: The food is decent but it always seems to come out at different times for people at the same table. Also, the back room is freezing when the air conditioning is on because it's on the same blower as the kitchen and they can't let the kitchen be too warm. That really needs to be fixed. Upon recommendation from a friend/coworker, we popped in on a Friday night. We usually like sitting at the bar or in the bar area of most restaurants, but It was packed, so we sat in an adjacent smaller room. The room was LOUD, and even the server pointed out that she felt like she was having to yell. The food however, was really good! I had a Mahi Mahi sandwich with sweet potato fries, while my wife had a salmon sandwich with grilled asparagus. Fire is a Broadripple staple! Every single thing on the menu is amazing and there's something for every member of the family. The inferno burger is one of our go-to's but I could not recommend the popper burger enough if it's on special! Their selection of soups includes a rotating southwestern shrimp and corn chowder that is so savory and unique. The onion rings are massive--even after having craved them for weeks once you get them you'll probably only be able to finish two or three! The staff is wonderfully sweet and provide a fun atmosphere filled with quirky back and forths. The owner makes you feel like part of the family. A couple of the desserts are made by his wife who has each recipe down to an art. They make carry out so easy and we can't wait for when we can get back to their patios! read more

But my FAV dessert, key lime pie, left me so down. It looked a bit soft when delivered, and sure enough, it was pure soup. Probably the most disturbing thing was finding a large chunk of fried breading sitting on top of my pasta. The server could not explain where it came from, and did not seem all that concerned about it. Very gross and possibly dangerous if someone had a food allergy. The server, Judith, REALLY ticked me off when she had the nerve to imply that I got something for nothing by refunding my entire meal when I got to eat 1/2 the appetizer and 1/2 the dessert. I made sure to let Judith know that I did not eat said 1/2 dessert my picking it up and pouring back down over the plate (surely even a not great server knows that a pie shouldn't pour). And quite frankly, after the fiasco that was dinner, I feel like a "free" 1/2 appetizer was the price she should pay for ruining my night -- think of it as a pay off to keep me from throwing an absolute super tantrum after watching my hubby eat delicious food while I had inedible crap. I thought about giving a three-star review because at the end, the supervisor was so apologetic. However, the more I thought about it, she did not offer a "free" entree as an incentive for me to come back. Instead, she gave us a buy one, get one entree. I'm not some jerk that would have come back along, scammed my free entree, slammed down the certificate, and went on my way. But at the same time, it wasn't really that great of a gesture on their part to say, well, come back, but we want to make sure you spent a bit more money when you are here. It just left a bad taste. I would have rather her just apologize and been done with it than offer that stupid certificate with strings attached. With so many other fabulous restaurants that have both good service and great food, there really is not a reason for me to give them a second try. read more

Before I went to Fire at the Monon, I didn't like fried green tomatoes. But their crispy cornmeal batter and delicious jalapeno dip changed my mind. I appreciated the two page menu that had a variety of options but wasn't too overwhelming. Entrees were between $8-12, but after seeing what came out to our table I think they could charge more. My boyfriend enjoyed their signature burger while I had a small salad and a side of "Campfire Corn," which was corn on the cob. My only complaint was that while I loved the corn, it wasn't worth paying $3.25 had I known I was getting one corn on the cob. The beer list is full of local, fresh beer and it's seasonal. Two pints, an appetizer and two entrees plus a tip ended up being about $40, which is totally reasonable for dinner and we really enjoyed our meal. I'll definitely be back! read more

I was entertaining some friends from out of town and trying to cater to a few different palettes. After seeing multiple reviews for Fire by the Monon it looked like the perfect place. Upon arriving, I was immediately impressed by the exterior. The numerous patio areas and the well designed building had me thinking we were in for a real treat. When we first entered, we weren't greeted right away. However that worked out in our favor because had we been whisked off to our table immediately, we would have missed the "pick a random bottle of wine" to take to our table for only $20 from a container in the entryway. My friends and I picked through and found an unusual red Chilean wine with chocolatey undertones we hadn't tried before. The service was alright, but our server wasn't able to tell us much about options from the bar or tell my guest the cost of a mimosa. Not that it was the end of the world, but I feel like that should be pretty basic information readily available. Between my friends and I, we ordered a variety of items from different parts of the menu. All of which were decent but nothing to write home about. Our server talked up the dirty Mac and cheese, but it ended up being a soupy bowl of fusilli noodle pasta dripping with cheese and lacking in flavor. Overall, I'd set this place in the "meh" category for people that are feeling passive and coincidentally in Broad Ripple. I feel like this place could be really amazing if they stepped up the menu options and classed up the interior. Until then, I am not likely to go back. read more

My wife and I met a friend for lunch on Wednesday. We were able to park right outside the entrance in one of the dedicated parking spots. The inside of the restaurant was nice and cool. The "family" dining and restrooms are located to the left and the bar was located to the right. Because it wasn't too hot when we arrived, we opted to sit outside the bar area on the patio. I ordered one of the local craft beers from the lengthy list. The gals ordered iced teas and the waitress did a great job of bringing "extra" lemon for my wife. All was going well until road construction started up across the street. No problem....we flagged down the waitress and she helped us move inside where the road work could not be heard. (We did sit in the corner of the bar and the volume of the background music was a bit louder than we would have liked for our conversation. We noticed other people were talking loudly too.) Although only our guest had an appetizer (the soup du jour Tortilla Soup), the wait for entrees didn't seem too long. I opted for the "Lake" which is a pan-fried trout sandwich with lettuce, tomato, red onion and chipotle mayonnaise. It came with a dill pickle spear and I went with the Roasted Vegetable Medley. The fish sandwich appeared like it was going to be dry but it was cooked properly and I squeezed a lemon wedge over the top of the fish to brighten the flavor. The roasted vegetables were fantastic! Such great flavors come out when done properly. The veggies had the right balance between roasting and being firm (no mushiness detected). Very nice dish for a very reasonable price (under $10). My wife enjoyed her burger with bacon and some of the usual burger fair. The chipotle mayo seemed to go well with the rest of the burger. The sweet potato fries had crisp edges while staying soft towards the center. Both the soup and salad got good marks as well. My family and I visited this past weekend for a quick lunch while out and about. We had looked over the menu prior to and were really looking forward to stopping in. The location is convenient and quiet, with a great patio for nicer weather. We dined inside around noon, very few other people. We were seated and had drinks immediately. It was nice and quiet, we could converse and be heard easily, a sticking point for my parents. Our food took a bit longer to arrive than anticipated, going from the number of patrons, but it was delicious. I opted for the southwest chicken sandwich, hubby had the pulled pork sliders, dad had the carnivore flatbread, mom had fish tacos and little bro had a burger. Everyone was very happy with the food, it all turned out great. Dad's only complaint was our drinks weren't refilled. He did have to get up and find our server. We were certainly not disappointed by our choice! Fire By the Monon is a bit of a drive from downtown Indianapolis, but is perfect for those looking for an authentic Indiana experience in Indianapolis. The service is friendly and the restaurant looks both quaint and homey. The service here was truly unparalleled - our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful with his suggestions for what to order on the menu. I ordered a burger with melted cheddar cheese, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, bacon, avocado, and an amazing horseradish-type sauce. It came with really good crispy onion rings. We also ordered the restaurant's famed fried green tomatoes. We were quite impressed! It was delicious! It was my second burger that day (I had had a burger for lunch), but it was still perfect and I truly enjoyed it. It's definitely worth the drive! I'm so glad we stopped by Fire By the Monon. My bf's burger was massive and overflowing with pulled pork and bbq. He seemed to enjoy it and the side of onion rings. My tenderloin was HUGE. I didn't even see the bun hidden under it. My personal favorites include the Dirty Mac and Cheese (so creamy and delicious!) and the Greuben (a Fried Grouper/Red Cabbage Slaw version of a Reuben sandwich), but I've never ordered something I didn't like here. Everything about my dining experience was excellent. My last meal at Fire by the Monon was the "Large Plate" grilled salmon. It was an impressive hunk of meat, and came with a medley of grilled vegetables, and sweet potato fries (which were awesome). Since I couldn't decide if I wanted regular fries (which are also amazing) or the sweet potato variety, the kitchen staff agreed to give me some of each. I topped off my meal with the molten chocolate cake. Molten goodness is what that was! Needless to say, I know exactly what I will be getting the next time I eat at Fire by the Monon. The staff at Fire by the Monon does an excellent job. Our server was friendly and delivered our orders very quickly.
