I'd long been curious about Kilroy's Bar N' Grill, however, I'm not often stopping in Broad Ripple these days and haven't really had the opportunity to try it out. This is one of two Indianapolis locations - the other being downtown. Since today is Sunday, the meters in Broad Ripple are free. It's fairly easy to find accessible parking in Broad Ripple, so I took the opportunity to spend some time in the area checking things out. As it's also likely the last decent weather day for a bit, I included my long awaited stop at Kilroy's. I came in off the Broad Ripple Avenue entrance. It's a double-sided glass door entryway. It's level to the ground, not always true in Broad Ripple, and despite the doors being a bit heavy they're workable. As you enter, there's a bar area to the right and a more traditional dining area to the left. I looked around and instantly got a little concerned as it looked like every table was a high-top. While this happens on occasion, it's fairly rare and always disappointing. I finally found a multi-seat table that was lower. I hated taking it, however, it appeared to be the only option. I've often heard that Kilroy's skews toward the younger crowd. Plus, it is a sports bar with quite a few wide-screen televisions throughout. However, on this Sunday afternoon the crowd was pretty mixed and things were pretty calm. My server, Lexi, was at my table quickly and took my drink order. I browsed the menu - essentially a somewhat above average pub menu with a wide variety of appetizers, sandwiches, pizza, burgers, and a few other items. Of course, there's also a strong bar menu. I ordered a breaded chicken sandwich with tots along with my usual unsweetened iced tea. I like that there are multiple side options. The food was delicious and I would easily order it all again. I got my always desired refill. I'd not had the greatest holiday. It was my first one with me being the sole person left in my family - and I honestly was looking for a little human contact of a casual, friendly nature. Lexi was a delight. Warm and friendly, attentive without being overwhelming. Plus, she's one of those servers who draws the happy face on the receipt - I'll admit it. I love that. (Yes, I'm weird. Leave me alone.). Overall, this was a positive experience and I'd definitely return. I'm docking a star primarily due to accessibility concerns (NOTE: Interestingly enough, they have an outside dining area for warmer weather and nearly every table out there is a lower picnic-style table). I had sides of ranch and honey mustard. To drink, I tried a new (for me) flavor of their long islands - the Grateful Dead (main flavor being raspberry). It was a nice day out and work had ended early so a couple of coworkers and myself decided to go here to get food and catch up after work. We had sat on the patio instead of inside which wasn't bad at all. The employee at the door greeted me and asked for my id which I presented it both to him. Our server was wonderful she kept coming to check on us and making sure we had everything. They had a lunch special but I opted to get the buffalo chicken sandwich and a salad. It's so loud. I'll start with that because if you can't handle loud, it doesn't matter that the food is great. But...if loud and crowd is your thing, Kilroy's has tons of TVs and delicious food. I was here on a Sunday afternoon (3pm) (which I imagine is quite different than the Friday night/Saturday night scene) but we were so impressed! It was clean, quick service, and solid drink specials. I was bringing my team here for lunch to celebrate a birthday at approximately 12:30pm. We were greeted by a security guard at the front door who asked for our IDs but we were not planning to drink as we would be returning to the office. I didn't have my ID (I had just switched wallets) but everyone on my team did. During the day, minors are allowed in this location with an adult. I was an adult with other adults but was denied entry to eat. Although the security guard was rude, I do not blame him for enforcing a poorly assembled policy but there is a way to speak and treat patrons. I have heard other horror stories of discrimination with Kilroy's and particularly the Broad Ripple location and would like to believe that was not the cause of me not being allowed to enter but it does raise concern. I will never return but my hope is that this review reaches the correct person and they revisit their policies. read more

Visited this restaurant during my trip to Indianapolis. Food was decent - but the service was absolutely horrible. It was not crowded at all when we ate inside, and it still took our server over 30 minutes to even check back in on our table and get a refill. The server barely acknowledged us the entire time (no "hi", "how are you", "thanks for coming in", etc.). It really felt as if we were a burden by eating here. The welcoming atmosphere and the generosity of the staff helped ease my transition during a time when I was far from family and friends. Huge shout-out to managers Chris, Ms. Jill, and Shane for helping shape such a positive experience. Over time, I became a regular and frequently attended happy hour. As someone from Arizona, I was thrilled to find a spot in Indy that offered a great happy hour since it felt like a little piece of home. I especially loved the Electric Lemonade and a Kamikaze, expertly made by the world's best bartenders: Thaddius, Bryce, Dylan, Jess, and Shelby. For a sports bar, Kilroy's is surprisingly accommodating to different dietary needs. As a pescatarian, I appreciated having tasty options like the house or Caesar salad with grilled salmon, cheese breadsticks, mac n' cheese, and tater tots. I recently moved away to pursue graduate school, but I'll always remember this place and the amazing people (pictured in my Kilroys keepsake). We have lived in the area for years and never tried this spot. I think we thought it was just a place for a much younger crowd ( we are in our 40s) but we were pleasantly surprised by the happy hour!
