Not a great experience in Glen Ellyn as this was our first time here. First off we waited 45 min for our food to come out then it was not cooked properly. The steak was completely raw inside. The manager was nice enough go get the food fixed but within minutes the chef had the audacity to come out to the table himself and make a scene and became super aggressive right away toward us yelling and screaming in our faces saying he knows how to cook and we don't know what we are talking about. I have never seen such a disrespectful thing happen at a restaurant. The chef's name is Jose. However, The manager was super nice along with our waitress. The manager told us she sent him home. He should not be allowed to return to that restaurant or work in customer service. I will be going to cooperate about this chef. Very unacceptable. read more

Thank goodness they didn't bring out 5 lbs of those things or I would have gained 10 lbs by the end of the night. My salmon was delicious. I asked for the honey glaze on the side (to reduce my caloric intake from the zucchini fries) but it was still tasty with a delicious forbidden rice as a side. We came by last Thursday for dinner with our small pup and got the last patio table. Our server, Rachel, was amazing! So sweet and helpful and hilarious! They brought our pup a bowl of water too. Then the food came out (paced perfectly from Rachel) and everything was delicious. We got the four cheese pizza, gnocchi app, chicken caprese, spicy chicken tortellini and meatballs to share (and give a little to our fur baby) and everyone loved everything! Went on a Friday and put our name in for the hour wait and went across the street for a drink. I was meeting friends who I had not seen in a while so we were ready for a long night of eating, drinking and commiserating. Our waiter at fire and wine had other intentions. When we sat down the clock was ticking and he was ready to get us in and out in a hour. There were a few things that were odd, he kept disregarding our dietary restrictions three or four times (maybe forgot?). We continued to order more wine and apps but he kept pressing us to order our main dish because the kitchen was busy, but our order came out in 10 mins while we were still in the middle of our app. While we were still eating, he asked if we needed boxes and when we said we were still eating, he stared collecting our napkins and water glasses. We kept looking at our watched thinking "we just sat down 25 mins ago.." etc. By the time we left, we realized we were in and out in under an hour, still hungry and still wanting more drinks. There was obviously other establishments to go to after, so we found a great spot, but was disappointed in the experience at fire and wine. We waited longer then we were given to eat and drink. I LOVE Fire + Wine. They have some of the best brick oven pizza in the area. I have only dined inside once; however, since the pandemic hit, I have ordered pizza from here often. Inside is very intimate and perfect for date night. I love brick-oven pizza. The pizza dough is bomb and the flavor is great. I love their sausage. The individual pizzas are pretty big and can probably be split between two people. My fiance and I like variety though, so we will get two pizzas and save the leftovers. I have ordered the margherita, pepperoni, and Italian. Every time we order from here, the pizza is amazing! The dough is soft, yet firm and the pizza sauce is sooooo good. It is truly addicting. My fiance ordered the short rib risotto one time and this has been the only thing I haven't liked from here. The flavor was a bit off where it tasted like the alcohol from the wine didn't cook all the way out. I have usually stuck with ordering the pizza; however, the pasta looks amazing. The food was excellent! The wait staff was very attentive. The wine options were good, however they skewed expensive, and the cheaper options were limited. Taking a star off because it was really noisy. There is way too much seating, and the way it's set up the large group seating is in the center of the space, with two person tables around the edge. It creates an atmosphere of cacophony. It was not good ambiance for our date night. The food and service were really good, but I don't think we'll be back for another date night. We order a bunch of small plates (tapas style) to share. Ricotta + Honeycomb: I can say that this is my favorite dish there! And I want more as I'm writing this! The dish was nice and light and everything went well together. The ricotta was nice and fluffy & toned down the sweetness of the honey & paired well with the toast. Meatball Sliders: I liked the sliders. It was a pretty simple meatball slider and tasted good. Eggplant Lasagna: I'm not a fan of eggplants at all, but my friends convinced me to try some because I wouldn't be able to taste the eggplant or the texture. They were right, it was pretty good and really cheesy! I love cheese so that made it better. Black Pepper Shrimp: Everything in this dish went so well together and it was delicious! I loved the combination of creamy polenta and shrimp. There was so much flavor in this dish. I would get it again. Sea Scallops + Cous Cous: The scallop was cooked perfectly! I didn't think that the orange and citrus would go well with it and cous cous but it really did. Crispy Cooked Pork Belly: The pork belly was definitely crispy and this dish had so much flavor in it. We usually enjoy this restaurant, went for Brunch and the server was rude. My husband did not get what he ordered and she did not make any move to fix it. He gave her an out "is this the steak Benedict? And she replied "no it's the almost eggs Benedict" and walked away, almost comical. I asked her if they had crayons, because I could see some on the other table she rolled her eyes and said she'd ask the host but she didn't know. So I got up and took the crayons off the other table. She was already annoyed with me because I had asked what the options were for kids beverages, so I got two eye rolls. We will be back because we love this place, just not for brunch and hopefully not that person. The Asiago gnocchi appetizer is a must!! One of the best gnocchi's I've had. I also loved the arancini mozzarella, the crispy risotto on the outside and the oozy cheese inside is perfect! They're great with suggestions and food is always served in a timely manner. One weeknight I went here and there was no wait, we got super lucky. Another time they were packed, but luckily we were seated within 15 minutes because a two person table happened to open up. This restaurant is definitely busy, so you want to put your name on the waitlist as soon as possible. For dinner, I had their daily special the chicken carbonara. Sadly, this meal was also bland. It had tons of great ingredients in it and visually looked appealing, however spice-wise I felt they missed the mark with their sauce. It just wasn't worth the calories, so I took it home and gave it to my husband. For dessert we had the butterscotch budino. It is a great size for one or two people to share without being overly full. I'm not a huge butterscotch fan but with the other ingredients added, it was a nice light refreshing but flavorful treat for the end of our meal. The texture was similar to pudding but it definitely tasted better than pudding. If you sign up for their email club, you will get $20 off $60 for your birthday and they don't bombard your email! Overall, some dishes are amazing and I will definitely be back for those dishes and to try a few new ones. Short and sweet--well, actually--tasty and spicy. I have to say that the first round of pizza tryout was perfect. I had the Soprasatta pizza. Ingredients included spicy salame, garlic, mozzarella, basil, oregano, onions and chili flakes. The crust was a blend of chewy and crunch to the edge. I've recommended the restaurant to a friend. Our server tonight was Shawn. We explained that it was our first time eating at the restaurant since moving to the area. The question of the night was, "What took you guys so long?!" Our appetizers were the zucchini fries and aroncinis. We had the pancetta arugula flatbread, wild mushroom ravioli and beef medallions. Everything was amazing! We had one issue with the cook on the beef medallions. Shawn took our order correctly but were brought medallions that were medium. Not to fear, Shawn immediately took those back to get the right temperature and cook on them. We weren't trying to be difficult and he understood that. He presented us with cards for mailing list sign up and comments on our experience. Shawn looks like he takes pride in what he does and it shows in his service. The place itself is fairly small yet cozy. Lights are dimmed and makes it a great place for a nice date. We were celebrating my wife's birthday. Fire & Wine definitely lived up to our expectations and all the hype from other people and reviews. We are so happy that we roughed it out, despite the cold weather. All the restuarants are mostly first come, first serve at the moment so we waited about 30 minutes in the pouring rain on a Saturday evening which isn't too terrible. I am a big fan of Fire and Wine! I always have a great experience here whether I've been on a date, with friends, or with family. The best part about this place is the menu is GREAT for sharing. They have a large assortment of small plates, salads, pizza, and pasta dishes. Everything I've had here has been excellent. Most recently I dined with a friend and we split the asiago stuffed gnocchi from the small plates menu - with cherry tomatoes, spinach and the gnocchi that seemed to be pan seared because some of them were a bit crispy on the outside which was AMAZING. We loved this dish. Then we had the beet salad - again, so very delicious. Beets, arugula, mixed greens, tangy gorgonzola cheese, whole pistachios, and the kicker: orange wedges. The flavors were immaculate and refreshing! We were debating pizza vs pasta because we had already decided we wanted dessert - on a mission to try all new things on this visit, we went with the Pancetta and Arugula pizza. The pancetta was cut thicker than I've ever had it and I LOVED it. It was similar in thickness to bacon but added an even saltier and crispier aspect to this pizza. I also loved that I saw whole cloves of garlic on each slice. My stomach growled just now thinking about this pizza! Lastly we wrapped up our meal with the nutella and berries calzone. It never lets us down. It's served warm with melty nutella and the strawberries inside practically turn into a compote when mixed with the chocolate-hazelnut goodness. They also have a great wine list, with plenty of by-the-glass offerings. Not only does this place not take reservations but when it's not even full they won't seat you without your party being fully present. The waitress also had a list of what they don't offer at the bar. Calamari was excellent and the Caesar salad was fresh and dressing tasty. Black pepper shrimp with braised pork and Crab cake were bland comparatively. Wine selection was nice. Server was attentive. Tiramisu was plain. Berry sorbet had fruit in it. Nice touch.
