Started with 2 pizzas for apps ... never had soppresta on a pizza - incredible as was the margarita pizza. Perfect app for 6 people. For the main course, each of us selected a different dish then shared. Homemade rigatoni - best I have ever had, short braised ribs - melt in your mouth tenderness, shrimp and lobster combo - generous portions of shrimp and lobster, risotto - creamy texture with just the right amount of bite, and vegetable over risotto - farm fresh from the garden. Portion sizes are modest/medium - so if you have a big eater, may want to add a couple more apps. We will all be back again! read more

We visited last night, and had a great experience with both service and food. The wait was a bit longer than expected, and we were heading to a play. Once seated, we explained our time crunch to our waiter and he was on top of it. Our food came out so quickly and gave us plenty of time to enjoy and relax. The food was delicious also, and now I definitely want to return when I have more time to enjoy. The rating is based on service, but I would rate the food this high as well. This place was absolutely stupendous. Stephanie started speaking our language and the next thing you know we have three appetizers on the table. Sleeper pick of the evening was the smoked wings. The puppies knocked our socks off. I hope for everyone else's sake that they get blessed with Stephanie the same way we did because this gal will blow your mind. first time here, but came with family member who loves this place and speaks highly of the establishment. the one thing that is raved about is the portion size. maybe it's because of the holiday weekend and we came for lunch but that did not meet expectations, not even close. both the filet and hanger steaks came out burnt despite asking to have it cooked medium and to not burn it. vegetables with the filet came cooked in a nice sauce? (not sure how to describe it, sorry) but the vegetables with the hanger was bland. spicy chicken tortellini was pretty decent but despite all the flavors and textures, fell short of the prime steak burger. only real complaint about the burger was that it was just dripping with grease. all in all, a somewhat decent food experience, but for the price, might be better off elsewhere. our server bianca was very nice and attentive. service was relatively quick and the venue looks and feels more like a nice pub than a restaurant. read more

My daughter took me here and I have to say it was worth the 3 hour wait to get a table. The next time I went so disappointed in our server and wished we were eating at the bar again as the service was better and the drinks were awesome and surprisingly inventive. We ordered two glasses of wine and shared three plates: the vegetable fritti, which was a mix of cauliflower onions and Brussels sprouts with arugula and Parmesan on top, the bacon-wrapped shrimp over risotto, and the beet salad, which had beets, orange slices, feta, pistachios and spring mix on top. Really enjoyed all of these! Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, and he took the time to give us suggestions and answer our questions. Next time I will try one of their pizzas - they looked like flatbread and had a wide variety with unique combinations of ingredients. I love this place. We have tried tons of restaurants in the Western burbs and this is on top of the repeat list. I have my go-to's on the meni every time which are 5 stars. I have deviated a few times with some other dishes and some of those were in the 4 star arena. However, highly recommend and encourage people to try this place. I am a raving fan! My wife and I stopped in for the first time for our an anniversary dinner. We did get there early since they do not take reservations and luckily got a table pretty quickly. The service there was great. She surpassed expectations especially considering she had a full section. We shared the meatball sliders which were good, but the rest of the food was amazing. Our other appetizer we had was the polenta cakes which was perfectly crispy on the outside but the inside was still soft and moist. We shared the Fig and Prosciutto flatbread and you obviously cant go wrong with that. Our entre we split was the Short Rib linguine. The meat was perfectly tender with out it being shredded and falling apart. The real star of that dish though was the tomatoes and cream sauce. I would definitely recommend for a group of four or six. Share your food because there is too many choice that don't make you want to try them all. We will certainly be back soon. read more

I've been here a few times and rated the restaurant 5 stars, unfortunately not today. We brought in my boyfriend's mom and left with her very disappointed. We ordered zucchini fries - excellent as always. I got new Pollyanna Sunmerly which is very refreshing (still prefer Rubeaus Nitro). Boyfriend got a dirty martini which wasn't dirty at all, and mom got gin and soda with lemon, but it came with lime. Kudos for them getting the soda part right instead of tonic. The mussels... that's what disgusted us, and yes, I understand it's a strong word. They were extremely vile and pungent. I spat mine out, it just didn't taste right whatsoever. We got a response that it's a time of the year when they're like that. Our waitress was also a tad too adamant about remaking them - just no. Shrimp salad was very rich and exceptionally tasting, and the candied walnuts on the house salad were spot on as well. Lobster mac was a huge disappointment as well. Very pasty and struggled to really taste the lobster. It was also too spicy... you don't put spice on a lobster. Hanger steak and Beef medallions were a class act. Juicy, tender, and super fresh. Really the highlight of the night. To summarize, this place doesn't know how to do seafood well. I will go as far as to say they've adulterated that lobster. Very disappointing. read more

Came here off a recommendation for our anniversary. Was not disappointed. All the things we tried were gray but what sticks out to me mostly were the gnocchi and the ricotta and honeycomb. I would go back again just for those. The pork belly was out of this world as well. It was packed on a Tuesday however we called ahead and we're able to be seated right away. The service was a tad slow, however the food came out very quickly. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and we will definitely be returning. read more

This was my first time here this place was recommended to me by one of my colleagues, the service was good and food was good very flavorful the only thing I didn't like about my dish was that the pasta is so thick I didn't taste like pasta to me the vodka sauce was great but the pasta noddles were extremely thick for my taste! I took the left overs home and after re heating the pasta the noodles were so thick couldn't even eat it so I threw it out. The meatball sliders are really good. Overall I would say 4 stars for me. Met a colleague there. They stay very busy. Very small entry area directly into a small bar area. The dining room is pretty with a lot of seating, but they get full. Once seated we had good service, good drinks. I wasn't interested in a meal and decided on some apps. The bean dip was good, bread was good. We also shared some calamari, which was adequate. Not well thought out and warm at best. Tasted greasy. The pork belly appetizer was very good. Nothing was great, but portions were appropriate and tasty. Who knew I'd be back? So over a year later, and I'm back to Fire + Wine. We were staying in Joliet for work, so I convinced a fellow foodie and I to drive over for a nice dinner. Only this trip, we had four co-workers from Thailand that spoke ZERO English, and were trying on everything American as possible while in America for a couple weeks. I called ahead to make sure we could be seated with our Thai guests, and were accommodated immediately upon arrival. We get seated toward the back, but the seating created a view of sheer eye candy. Note: Is Joliet just lacking in the female department, or do they all end up at this restaurant? Either way, thanks. Similar to last time, I had to order for people that didn't know any better, but this go'round I had to translate in Thai what each guy wanted. I think I did a pretty good job, because "thumbs up" translates pretty well across international lines. Every plate was spotless, and even my American foodie coworker was impressed with the service, food quality, and how we were handled. This place could teach a course on restauranteurship to a couple other local places (none of which I visited this time around). Great beer selection, tons of dinner choices for all types of palettes, and the desserts seemed popular for the Thai guests as well. I know I said it last time, but IF I get to come back to the Chicago area, I am definitely making a trek over to Glen Ellyn again. This place is amazing, and reliably consistent. read more

I have been a customer for 5 years, and this place used to be really good. The quality started getting worse and worse during the pandemic. I wasn't going to post this, but I am still fuming after ordering a "vegetable pie" pizza 2 months ago. This pizza used to be oh so good as a vegetarian option. It used to include all these different veggies cooked to perfection and chopped into nice little pieces that would stay on the pizza no matter what. The pizzas are really good and so was the pasta I had. They had a good selection of wine and other drinks. They waiting area is packed! Be prepared to be in close quarters at peak times. I would like to update this review (4 years later). Fire + Wine has handled Covid-19 pandemic beautifully. They were the first to seemlessly implement curbside. They tired their hardest to take care of their employees. Although this is a challenging time (given the pandemic) the service tonight at Fire + Wine was very poor. The waiter was inattentive and forgetful. Unfortunately he forgot to place our four-year old's meal. When he recognized his error it took far too long (at least 30 minutes) for her to get her meal. The beef medallions that I ordered were overcooked ; I did not mention this to the staff as I did not want to wait. And, the vegetables that I ordered with my steak were also forgotten; it took another 30 minutes to get them to the table. We brought our concerns to the manager and they did not charge us for the child meal and offered a complimentary dessert. The manager apologized but stated that the kitchen was unexpectedly busy. Forgetting our child's meal should have prompted quicker corrective action. It made for a stressful rather than relaxing dining experience. We recognize the immense challenge of the current time but we have dined at many local restaurants and never had such poor service. We will not be returning. read more

Decided to come here while visiting my sister in the suburbs. We were hungry and a quick Yelp search brought us here. We came on a Sunday around 6p and it was already packed. We had to wait roughly 30 minutes, but it was well worth it. We ordered a bunch of stuff from the menu and almost everything was really really good. Some favorites are the black pepper shrimp, zucchini fries, asiago stuffed gnocchi, crispy pork belly, and spicy chicken tortellini. The pizza here is amazing. Our personal favorite is the Short Rib Pie. The BBQ Chicken was just okay. Drinks are really good as well. Would love to come back here in the future while visiting! read more

Thank you for offering delicious food options in my new home town! I recently moved to the area and have done my fair share of trying all the places in town with the one exception being that of Fire & Wine. The reason being is that it is always crowded! Tuesday night - slammed, Friday night - slammed; you get the idea, any day of the week you will be sure to see every seat in the house occupied. This only made me want to try it more. It must be good right?? Right!!! We ventured in on a random rainy Saturday night with a large group of people. We knew there would be wait, but decided to chance it. Luckily for us, the buzzer works across the street where we indulged in a beer to kill the wait time. No faster then we could down a pint, did the buzzer go off. We ran across the street and were greeted by friendly staff that sat us at a perfect table - it was perfect because we ended up having to add two more people. The wait staff was insanely accommodating, running to the basement to grab the extra seats to welcome our new but late guests (remember, every night of the week, every seat own is occupied!). Our waitress was beyond friendly, helpful and cheerful. We ordered a great deal of appetizers to get the party started - grilled octopus was beyond tender, bacon wrapped shrimp and risotto was so fabulous, I want to make that my next meal and the meatball sliders were incredibly hearty and flavorful. Vegetable Orecchiette was order for my entree and I couldn't get enough!! While rather simple sounding, it was beyond and so happy it was large enough for leftovers. One of the best restaurant that I've ever been to in the suburbs. All of their dishes are small, so you can try 3-4 items when out come here. The last time I was there with my family, I pretty much ordered every single item on the menu. At least it felt that way, I know we ordered 16 items all together. The service is top notch, and we ordered so my food that the owner even stopped by to see what the hell was going on. He's a real. I've guy and sent down a couple of free desserts.
