I am a serious foodie and hard to impress. The service and energy here is outstanding! Their pizza takes you to Italy and is super spot on. The quality of the ingredients in all the food is AMAZING. Try the shrimp and polenta - a fav among all (very peppery, so we ask them to ease up on the black pepper) - this dish is creamy and to DIE FOR! Meatball sliders are all veal and the most tender and amazing I have ever had. Someone told me for years to come here and when I finally did 2 years ago it is my favorite go to place for a great night out! The prices are reasonable, management is awesome, but the staff and people behind the bar are fantastic! You won't be disappointed. My boyfriend and I went here for my birthday and wow were we impressed!! The menu has a great variety and it's not overly priced. The vibe was romantic and we left with leftovers. I'm still amazed that we hadn't heard of this absolutely fabulous Italian restaurant & Bar in all the years we've lived out here in the western suburbs! And we're eagerly anticipating a return with friends to sample the fairly extensive & interesting menu. Such an asset to the area. Reservations aren't accepted but a 'priority wait list' - which can reduce the wait time by 50% - is offered. Where to start... decor & ambiance; very pub like with the dark stained paneling, exposed brick, comfortable seating. Urban/suburban? And it's as suitable for large parties as it for a couple's outing. We arrived at 5:20 on a Sunday ( opened at 5 ) and the restaurant & Bar area was filled to capacity. Great wait staff - we were approached -while waiting to be seated - to see if we wanted anything from the bar. Very friendly courteous service. The atmosphere was so upbeat; people were genuinely enjoying the food & the experience. The photos of our dinner really don't need any explanations. It was all so delicious. This has been our favorite Glen Ellyn-Wheaton restaurant since shortly after it opened. The atmosphere is great, the food is outstanding and the help is properly trained--they know what to do and when. AND, the pricing is fair. You can't ask for more. The restaurant's pork chop is outstanding as are the various seafood dishes and beef items and the sides are always well prepared. We normally get our food take-out these days, and try to get food here several times a year--including birthdays, anniversaries, etc. As I write this, July 1, 2022, the restaurant is surrounded by road and sidewalk construction. When it is done, downtown Glen Ellyn will be much more desirable but in the interim, be careful with the temporary boards and walkways surrounding the restaurant--I think the village of Glen Ellyn over did the amount of construction going on at once--but that is not the restaurant's fault. In the interim, leave your high-heels at home and be very careful when accessing the restaurant, particularly from the North side (Duane street). read more

We had to wait about 20 minutes during the dinner rush, but it was well worth it. Beer selection was good. And the wood-fired pizzas did not disappoint, the crust was very nice, and the toppings added a lot of flavor without being over the top. Whenever I am in town from Tempe, Arizona Fire + Wine is the top restaurant on my list to visit. The wait can be long, but it is well worth it. The staff is knowledgeable, and work hard to find out tastes and preferences. Meg was fantastic with coming up with a delicious martini, as well as food selections. BOTH Michael and Anthony, the owners, checked in with us through the night, and made us feel so special. They even sent us a salad to try that they are considering adding to the menu. This place always has great food, and until today I've always had great service. I brought someone here for the first time, after he's heard me rave about it. Sadly this visit not only turned him off, but he opted to by a GC for a friend from another restaurant, instead of Fire & Wine. The bartender was awful. I'm not sure if it was her perpetual scowl or her indifference towards everything. When they served our honeycomb & ricotta appetizer with burnt bread (I mean, one whole side was burned) she seemed annoyed that we asked for replacement bread. My dining companion actually apologized for asking. It was THAT uncomfortable. She seemed uninterested in anyone sitting at the bar (there were 4 of us). We would've stayed longer if it hadn't been for the bad service. Totally not worth the money we spent. read more

I was randomly in the area one evening when my Dad was in town, and we were looking for a nice place to eat. Fire + Wine had great reviews, so we decided to check it out. The atmosphere is modern, industrial, and romantic at the same time. It does get very loud (really my only complaint about the whole experience). The menu is like tapas, only more Italian based. Most of the plates are big enough to share. They also have a good drink menu. We ordered the Mussels, F + W Chop salad, The Butchers Corner Pizza, The Raisin and Sausage Pizza, and the Gelato Sampler. I could have taken a bath in the mussel broth. They bring bread so you can dip it in the broth. They even brought us more bread without us even asking! The chop salad was really fresh and light. The pizzas were great - just enough toppings, the crust was perfect, and I loved the raisins on the Raisin and Sausage pizza. I've never see anything like that anywhere else. The gelato sampler comes with 2 scoops of gelato - the vanilla bean and pistachio were great. I can't say enough good about the service! We were seated right away, our server was great, our plates were always cleared in a timely manner, everything was explained to us, the drinks were always full, and the food came out pretty quickly. He changed the silverware between each course as well. We were really, really impressed. Fire + Wine easily became one of my favorite restaurants in the burbs that night. This was my husband and my first Valentine's Day together, and this was the perfect place to spend it. Everything was fantastic from the second we walked in- greeted by two hostesses and a lovely woman whom I would have to assume is the owner or manager. Seated promptly, greeted promptly. Evan explained the whole menu and went over cocktails with us. The team work was impeccable. I'm a server and know that it's difficult to get to all your tables, run your food and drink and prebus, so it was refreshing to see everyone working together. I don't think I saw an employee stand still the entire time we were here. The entire ambiance is phenomenal. The decorations to the lighting to the beautiful staff (men and women) I also love he inspirational quotes on the wall. It makes it feel like such a positive place to be. The food was excellent. I got the vodka pasta and my husband got the bolognese and we got a crab cake for dessert because we work backward, lol. All were fantastically executed. The portions were perfect. Brought the family for wife's birthday and we had a great time. Called ahead to get on the wait list and even though it was crowded we waited no more than 10 minutes. Enough time to get a drink in the bar. They had Gumballhead on tap and always have a great selection of craft beers. Got a great table and I wish I could remember our servers name because she was excellent. Friendly, quick, and knowledgeable on the menu. We ordered the octopus and the black pepper shrimp to start they were fantastic. Kids ordered a pizza and the meatball sliders. Literally heard the words 'this is the best thing I have ever put in my mouth'. The server brought over the owner Mike to hear that feedback and he was so friendly with the kids and we had a few laughs. Great food, great wine, great atmosphere. Cant say enough about this place. The food was OK. I kind of liked their salads, split two of them (beet and house salad). Their pizzas tasted pretty good but were UNDERCOOKED, and I believe OVERPRICED given the fact that they are paper thin and rather short on ingredient portions. But the real problem for me here was that our waiter (black guy with kind of a pot belly, probably in his late 30s or early 40s) was JUST PLAIN AWFUL. In fact, he was one of the worst waiters I've ever had IN MY LIFE, and I'm over 50 and eat out alot !!!! He was loud, rushed, rude, controlling, inattentive, in our faces, and thoroughly OBNOXIOUS. I didn't get his name, because frankly I was afraid to ask him a question like that. I will be calling the restaurant tomorrow to talk to the manager about him, however. Nope, in case your wondering, I'm never going back. Folks on this site who are raving about this place are not very discriminating. The food is OK, like I said, but nothing to write home over. If you want a place with half-decent food and absolutely horrible-to-the-point-of-surreal customer service, then 'fire and wine' is the place for you. We've been to this restaraunt 3 times. The food has been consistently decent for the location its in. If they were to be compared to top notch places in chicago, then the food would be below average. The customer service is ridiculous at this place. They seem to hire some of the least intelligent, rudest and stubbornly entitled people they could find. Their approach to dealing with customers was almost confrontational and incredibly disorganized. To summarize, I highly recommend this restaraunt if you're interested in a night of disappointment on all counts. Otherwise, stay away. read more

Superb! Tonight was our first visit to Fire + Wine and I can say with certainty that we'll be back. We opted for small plates in addition to the meals our kids ordered. We started with the following: -House salad (not going to lie, if I was at home I would have licked the dressing off the plate, so balanced!!) -Italian Bean Dip w/ the most perfect, pillowy flatbread for dipping. And then the small plate deliciousness began: -Eggplant Lasagna -Grilled Baby Octopus -Black Pepper Shrimp -Beef Medallions -Charred Broccolini All I can say is that EVERYTHING was great. Nothing disappointed us and we are so excited to come back and try the Crispy Pork Belly and more! PS-the kids meals were awesome too!! One had the Grilled Salmon and one had the Pepperoni Pizza. We went on a Wed. night the week before Christmas. They had two large parties seated, we put our names in and were told to it'd be 15 minutes or so to be seated. We had two drinks in the bar and ended up waiting 45 minutes for our table. After getting seated, a man came to our table and brought us water and and said our server would be by shortly. The dining room is attractive, but quite loud. We ordered a Grilled Romaine Salad it's garnished with tomatoes, gorgonzola, leeks, pancetta and a cream dressing, for an appetizer. Entrees were the nights wood-fired pizza special with smoked prosciutto, hot peppers and pineapple, on a nice chewy crust; a butternut squash risotto (very good with nice chunks of squash) and a hanger steak that came with fingerling potatoes spiced with arugula, herbs and balsamic. Dessert was a shared Panna Cotta. Our server was attentive, everything had inventive flavors and was very good. Our tab for the 1 appetizer, 1 small plate, pizza, 1 pasta, and 1 dessert, 2 beers and 2 wines was $87. read more

Fire & Wine is one of my favorite restaurants! The grilled romaine salad is fantastic and they have a great wine list as well. My family and I went last week and my son ordered the scallops... the server came back to inform us they were all out of the scallops :( The chef then came to the table with a signed business card so on our next visit he would get the scallops for FREE! Nice surprise... son ended up with the pepper shrimp and loved them too! I would recommend the call ahead though...always busy! read more

They have what they call a 'call ahead list'. I learned this the day before by calling for a reservation. I did get on this list. Its supposed to give you priority when showing up. Talking with the manager after waiting for an hour, he informed me 'we don't need to take reservations, look around'. To his credit we did then get a table in five minutes and he threw in a couple of small plates for our table of four. Food and service was good, not outstanding although I would recommend the beef medallions. The place wants to be upscale and trendy but operates like a casual family dinning restaurant. While waiting for a table, we eventually got 1 stool next to a young teen who was playing a video game. Many families came in and were forced to wait in a very cramped bar. I would not force my kids to wait any length of time there. I understand that it's better and more efficient for them not to take reservations and have a steady stream of patrons to fill their tables. I would rather patronize establishments that respect the customer more. The check came and fortunately the couple we were with noticed it was not ours. That saved us $200. If I was hungry, driving by, and they had an empty table, I would eat there again. read more

I decided to go with an IPA instead of a wine and they had great choices. Our waitress was very knowledgeable which was great! The bad thing was that she was extremely rude! I may have asked her two questions the whole night and she made off like I was asking her to fetch me something from China. After we paid, she decided to come to our table and complain that we didn't give her a big enough tip. Excuse me?! It was 20%... Well I finally made it to Flour and Wine and all I can say is WOW it went beyond my expectations. This place has amazing food, great atmosphere and the service is just outstanding. First at the bar Nick was just great what a personality and then our server Frank was just great his recommendations were right on if you can get a table with Frank he will make your night out complete. I will for sure be going back to try the rest of the menu the owner was also great he would go around to the tables and checking that we were happy with out service. Fire and Wine has seamlessly transitioned from the bustling atmosphere before COVID-19 to the lockdown era carry out only, and now slowly opening up back up. The protocols seemed to be fairly steady throughout the pandemic; only allowing curbside pickup through call aheads and ordering online. Obviously you lose some of the magic of eating at the restaurant and being able to enjoy your food with good company. That being said Fire and Wine remained one of the premier destinations for modern Italian cuisine. The hangar steak might not seem like the first choice for take out but I had to try it. While the steak loses some of its quality from off the grill to the house, it remains one of the best steaks I've had. The French beans and roasted potatoes perfectly complement the steak to give the dish another dimension. But the kicker for me is the chimichurri. For takeout you can not put it directly on the steak as the steak would get soggy in the transition from restaurant to home. Despite having to add it manually it is the clear standout for the dish. Overall Fire and Wine handled the pandemic excellently with the new meal plans and call ahead system. There was no dip in quality from eating in to having to take it out. read more

Petty. Insincere. Sloppy. Disappointing service. I suggest to skip this place. They are sneaky and charge $5 extra for kids portion and then serve you the adult size. (It's called portion control). They serve ingredients like tomato in food items that aren't listed as having tomato on them. My friend mentioned this to our waitress and she didn't respond. She looked the other way. Under the impression she didn't hear my friend, I spoke up and the waitress gave me a look and snapped at me. I saw a spider on the wall I had to kill, so it wouldn't land on my friend.
