Whenever I am in town from Tempe, Arizona Fire + Wine is the top restaurant on my list to visit. The wait can be long, but it is well worth it. The staff is knowledgeable, and work hard to find out tastes and preferences. Meg was fantastic with coming up with a delicious martini, as well as food selections. BOTH Michael and Anthony, the owners, checked in with us through the night, and made us feel so special. They even sent us a salad to try that they are considering adding to the menu. This place always has great food, and until today I've always had great service. I brought someone here for the first time, after he's heard me rave about it. Sadly this visit not only turned him off, but he opted to by a GC for a friend from another restaurant, instead of Fire & Wine. The bartender was awful. I'm not sure if it was her perpetual scowl or her indifference towards everything. When they served our honeycomb & ricotta appetizer with burnt bread (I mean, one whole side was burned) she seemed annoyed that we asked for replacement bread. My dining companion actually apologized for asking. It was THAT uncomfortable. She seemed uninterested in anyone sitting at the bar (there were 4 of us). This was my husband and my first Valentine's Day together, and this was the perfect place to spend it. Everything was fantastic from the second we walked in- greeted by two hostesses and a lovely woman whom I would have to assume is the owner or manager. Seated promptly, greeted promptly. Evan explained the whole menu and went over cocktails with us. The team work was impeccable. I'm a server and know that it's difficult to get to all your tables, run your food and drink and prebus, so it was refreshing to see everyone working together. I don't think I saw an employee stand still the entire time we were here. The entire ambiance is phenomenal. The decorations to the lighting to the beautiful staff (men and women) I also love he inspirational quotes on the wall. It makes it feel like such a positive place to be. The food was excellent. I got the vodka pasta and my husband got the bolognese and we got a crab cake for dessert because we work backward, lol. All were fantastically executed. The portions were perfect. Brought the family for wife's birthday and we had a great time. Called ahead to get on the wait list and even though it was crowded we waited no more than 10 minutes. Enough time to get a drink in the bar. They had Gumballhead on tap and always have a great selection of craft beers. Got a great table and I wish I could remember our servers name because she was excellent. Friendly, quick, and knowledgeable on the menu. We ordered the octopus and the black pepper shrimp to start they were fantastic. Kids ordered a pizza and the meatball sliders. Literally heard the words 'this is the best thing I have ever put in my mouth'. The server brought over the owner Mike to hear that feedback and he was so friendly with the kids and we had a few laughs. Great food, great wine, great atmosphere. Cant say enough about this place. Superb! Tonight was our first visit to Fire + Wine and I can say with certainty that we'll be back. We opted for small plates in addition to the meals our kids ordered. We started with the following: -House salad (not going to lie, if I was at home I would have licked the dressing off the plate, so balanced!!) -Italian Bean Dip w/ the most perfect, pillowy flatbread for dipping. And then the small plate deliciousness began: -Eggplant Lasagna -Grilled Baby Octopus -Black Pepper Shrimp -Beef Medallions -Charred Broccolini All I can say is that EVERYTHING was great. Nothing disappointed us and we are so excited to come back and try the Crispy Pork Belly and more! PS-the kids meals were awesome too!! One had the Grilled Salmon and one had the Pepperoni Pizza. Fire & Wine is one of my favorite restaurants! The grilled romaine salad is fantastic and they have a great wine list as well. My family and I went last week and my son ordered the scallops... the server came back to inform us they were all out of the scallops :( The chef then came to the table with a signed business card so on our next visit he would get the scallops for FREE! Fire and Wine has seamlessly transitioned from the bustling atmosphere before COVID-19 to the lockdown era carry out only, and now slowly opening up back up. The protocols seemed to be fairly steady throughout the pandemic; only allowing curbside pickup through call aheads and ordering online. Obviously you lose some of the magic of eating at the restaurant and being able to enjoy your food with good company. That being said Fire and Wine remained one of the premier destinations for modern Italian cuisine. The hangar steak might not seem like the first choice for take out but I had to try it. While the steak loses some of its quality from off the grill to the house, it remains one of the best steaks I've had. The French beans and roasted potatoes perfectly complement the steak to give the dish another dimension. But the kicker for me is the chimichurri. For takeout you can not put it directly on the steak as the steak would get soggy in the transition from restaurant to home. Despite having to add it manually it is the clear standout for the dish. Overall Fire and Wine handled the pandemic excellently with the new meal plans and call ahead system. There was no dip in quality from eating in to having to take it out. read more

Holy wow. Amazing! We haven't even left the table yet and we're blown away with how good everything was! Phenomenal service (Valerie was aweeesome!), incredible food and just enough time between courses to digest a bit and get ready for the next tasty delight. Highly highly recommend the Asiago gnocchi and the ricotta and honey toast. My husband LOVED the Soprasetta pizza and said it was better than Eataly. It was a tad on the spicy side for me but the wine made it all better! We will definitely be back for more and can't wait to work our way through the menu. I was randomly in the area one evening when my Dad was in town, and we were looking for a nice place to eat. Fire + Wine had great reviews, so we decided to check it out. The atmosphere is modern, industrial, and romantic at the same time. It does get very loud (really my only complaint about the whole experience). The menu is like tapas, only more Italian based. Most of the plates are big enough to share. They also have a good drink menu. We ordered the Mussels, F + W Chop salad, The Butchers Corner Pizza, The Raisin and Sausage Pizza, and the Gelato Sampler. I could have taken a bath in the mussel broth. They bring bread so you can dip it in the broth. They even brought us more bread without us even asking! The chop salad was really fresh and light. The pizzas were great - just enough toppings, the crust was perfect, and I loved the raisins on the Raisin and Sausage pizza. I've never see anything like that anywhere else. The gelato sampler comes with 2 scoops of gelato - the vanilla bean and pistachio were great. I can't say enough good about the service! We were seated right away, our server was great, our plates were always cleared in a timely manner, everything was explained to us, the drinks were always full, and the food came out pretty quickly. He changed the silverware between each course as well. We were really, really impressed. Fire + Wine easily became one of my favorite restaurants in the burbs that night. I've dined here about 5 times and always enjoy the food. A lot of hustle and bustle within the charming dining area which is understandable because this is a very popular place. Menu is varied from personal wood fired pizzas, zucchini fries to hanger steak. Whatever we order it's always good. Just wish it was open for lunch too as dinner is always packed with a long wait. This reminds me of all the great places we used to enjoy while still DINKS living in the city. I just wish there were more places in the Glen Ellen/ Wheaton area like this! read more

Is it too much that I've been to Fire + Wine twice in the last 10 days? It's my all time favorite restaurant when celebrating or even to just have an intimate dinner. The service is always top notch and the food has never disappointed me. Our goto for small plates is Ricotta + Honeycomb and Black Pepper Shrimp. I've also had the Calamari and my BF likes to order the Octopus. Both very delicious. For my salad I liked the Grilled Romaine. When having salad for lunch, I just add chicken to make it my meal. For main courses; my daughter always orders the Vodka Pasta and adds chicken. She likes it spicy, which I really can't handle. I usually order the Roasted Salmon or the Filet Medallions. In the past I've had the Whitefish, which is very tasty also. I guess it depends on my mood, but I've never been disappointed in what I order. There is also a large selection of wine and other beer and spirits that pares well with every dish. Cheers! read more

Had heard a lot of hype about this place, and was really excited to try this place. We went very early (around 4:30 pm on a week day). The service is "attentive" but too much so. We could not even have a conversation due to wait staff interrupting us continually trying to get us to choose some food. There was no one in the place, so I was confused by the rush for us to order. We had ordered a bottle of wine and were hoping to enjoy that for some time before ordering. The waitress was coming back to our table every 3-5 minutes to ask if we "had decided". The third time she came by we had explained that we hadn't even looked because we were talking and enjoying our wine. It didn't make any difference. She continued. We finally felt obligated to pick some items (small plates). This continued throughout the evening. We ordered a second bottle of wine and a few more plates. After that, we were PROMPTLY provided the check, and even had our water glasses removed instead of asking if we would like more. They did everything but say "can you please leave?" I would like to strongly make the point that there was NO ONE waiting for a table. While I understand the need to turn tables and keep wait times to a minimum, it should not be so obvious or obnoxious, nor should you ever make people feel as though they are being pushed out the door. I will give this another try because of the food and the wine. Hopefully we won't be harassed so aggressively. read more

The food was OK. I kind of liked their salads, split two of them (beet and house salad). Their pizzas tasted pretty good but were UNDERCOOKED, and I believe OVERPRICED given the fact that they are paper thin and rather short on ingredient portions. But the real problem for me here was that our waiter (black guy with kind of a pot belly, probably in his late 30s or early 40s) was JUST PLAIN AWFUL. In fact, he was one of the worst waiters I've ever had IN MY LIFE, and I'm over 50 and eat out alot !!!! He was loud, rushed, rude, controlling, inattentive, in our faces, and thoroughly OBNOXIOUS. I didn't get his name, because frankly I was afraid to ask him a question like that. I will be calling the restaurant tomorrow to talk to the manager about him, however. Nope, in case your wondering, I'm never going back. Folks on this site who are raving about this place are not very discriminating. The food is OK, like I said, but nothing to write home over. The place is dark and noisy, and the management packs people in like sardines. All in all NOT A PLEASANT DINING EXPERIENCE. read more
