I love Fire & Wine--it is one of my favorite go-to nice restaurants in the area. There are many that have popped in the past 5 years that are similar, but this was the first of it's kind that I went to. You know the type--"small plates", good wine, trendy atmosphere. It's great for a date, the bar area is small, but I enjoy sitting there too, while waiting for a table or popping in for a drink on a Saturday night. The dining area is big enough for families and large groups, but I prefer coming here in a small groups of 2-4 and splitting some small plates and trying out the delicious drinks of the day and chef's specials. I love the atmosphere and the wait staff is always courteous and knowledgeable about what we should try next. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone wishing for an enjoyable dining experience in the western suburbs! read more

I've never had a bad meal here, whether it be in the main dining room or at the bar. The ambiance at either spot is great and the service is usually quite good. Do yourself a favor and try to go on off days or off peak times because the wait in prime time can be painful if you are really hungry. And it's only because it's tough to stand in the bar area and see and smell the food as it flies by your nostrils. Also, many menu items are share-able so no need for everyone to get multiple apps and full order entrees, unless you like leftovers. read more

Came here today for our 27th wedding anniversary. No reservations, no worries we were sat and enjoyed the high top. The waitress, whom I apologize for not remembering her name, was a true professional. She knew every item and their compliments on the menu including the daily special and wine list. She made suggestions and not once needed to refer to a menu or note pad. She was courteous, friendly and easy to talk to. The food was equally outstanding as was the deserts. One of which she graciously Comp for us as an anniversary gift, which we truly appreciated. That type of professionalism can not be found often enough. Horrible service and food!! My lobster tail was half raw!! The waitress actually advised me to try the tail because it looked under cooked.. The same tail (with the cut that I made to taste it) was broiught back and was now dry and burnt! I sent it back and then received the same tail with the tip trimmed off and it was now breaded and soaked in an oily substance! It had an awful burnt taste and looked disgusting! By now I lost my appetite and asked for a box. When they boxed my leftovers they gave me only the pasta and bread excluding the shrimp and vegetables! Very disappointed! read more

I came here with 2 other co-workers tonight for dinner. Because there were so many great items on the small plates menu we split a bunch of different things- short rib risotto, scallops, octopus, pork belly, borratta as well as some mains including beef medallions, mushroom ravioli and beet salad. Yum yum yum! My husband and I had a date night during the week and I was surprised at the wait- which tells me we came to the right place! Staff was welcoming! I loved the atmosphere. Dimmed lighting and a soft touch. I had a rosé with my meal and we ordered two pizzas. We definitely were able to compare to the ones we had in Rome. So delicious. Brittani was awesome and took great care of us. Be sure you have a reservation otherwise you will be waiting for a while. To start they always have very nice cocktails, and we tried a couple of them, i can say all of them were delicious. They have a wood fired Pizza in this place; and all of them are really good if you like it thin; my favorite here is Pancetta and Arugula. Love, love, love! Great food and impeccable service. We came to celebrate my birthday because I loved it so much the first time we were here. I ordered the Vegetable Misto and learned that I didn't like goat cheese. Our server, Renee, was so wonderful. She insisted we replace it with something different because I was the "birthday guest". Although we set a "priority seating" request the evening before as they do not take reservations the wait was close to 45 minutes to get seated. Perhaps this Is a reflection of the great food or lack of social scene in GE. At the time we arrived it was Standing room only- we were bumping elbows with those at the bar in one direction and creepily breathing down the neck of those attempting to enjoy their dinner in a sardine can in the other direction. The food was great. Our server was awesome but the atmosphere and general experience was a bit overwhelming. We were seated (once we finally got seated-approx 10 years later) we were seated right next to the door on a 12 degree crisp evening. This place is the perfect girls night out spot. I get together with one of my friends here every month. The food, service, and atmosphere is always stellar. However, our last visit had to be the best yet. When we were seated, two servers came up and introduced themselves so we had figured one of them was in training. Eric was our main server throughout the night, he answered all our questions about the menu and was super helpful. I had figured the other server was the one in training but we found out it was only Eric's 3rd day! I am a serious foodie and hard to impress. The service and energy here is outstanding! Their pizza takes you to Italy and is super spot on. The quality of the ingredients in all the food is AMAZING. Try the shrimp and polenta - a fav among all (very peppery, so we ask them to ease up on the black pepper) - this dish is creamy and to DIE FOR! Meatball sliders are all veal and the most tender and amazing I have ever had. Someone told me for years to come here and when I finally did 2 years ago it is my favorite go to place for a great night out! The prices are reasonable, management is awesome, but the staff and people behind the bar are fantastic! You won't be disappointed. My husband and I went to the restaurant last Friday. It was early so it was not crowded. The people at the desk were great. Our server Josh was also great. My husband's Chicken saltimbocca was delicious. After that it was downhill. I ordered the Braised Short Rib with Cous Cous. It was dry and stringy. Braising is an art which they have not mastered so they should leave dishes like this off the menu. The décor was dark and depressing. Where to start... decor & ambiance; very pub like with the dark stained paneling, exposed brick, comfortable seating. Urban/suburban? And it's as suitable for large parties as it for a couple's outing. We arrived at 5:20 on a Sunday ( opened at 5 ) and the restaurant & Bar area was filled to capacity. Great wait staff - we were approached -while waiting to be seated - to see if we wanted anything from the bar. Very friendly courteous service. The atmosphere was so upbeat; people were genuinely enjoying the food & the experience. The photos of our dinner really don't need any explanations. It was all so delicious. Everything about Fire + Wine is amazing! Such a comfortable atmosphere. I started with the Burratta & Roasted Grapes, who would have thought warm grapes would be so awesome! The Burrata was incredibly fresh and tasty on the toasted bread. I got the Chef's Playground pizza, duck prosciutto and golden beets. It did not disappoint! I am not big on writing reviews but I had to follow up with this place as my wife and I were truly wowwed once again. We had gone on our anniversary a year and a half ago, loved it and wanted to check it out again. I always know the true talent and beauty of an establishment when you spend time somewhere...leave...you know you loved it...but can't put your finger on it. That is the feeling we got when we were leaving Fire + Wine. From the moment we walked in and had a glass of wine at the bar while we waited for our table, to walking into the very comfortable dining area, to being seated and admiring the "cool" environment, to having Brian our waiter take care of us explaining that nights specials, to enjoying awesome food and drink, to having Michael (the owner) come by to check on us asking if we were enjoying ourself (impressive seeing how it was a Friday night and the place was jamming!), to prompt service, smallest details taken care of...I can't put my finger on it...but it was truly awesome. You can tell this is not this teams first go in the restaurant business. Having eaten out for the past 50 years it takes a step above the norm for us to feel wowwed...we felt wowwed. The crowd seemed to have a bit of everyone. Familes, couples, girls just hanging with girls...was very comforting and relaxing. Pricing was very reasonable as well...great value for the money. While all of the details and ambiance and service and all that stuff is great...if the food didn't deliver it would just be so so. The food is just plain awesome. Ok, enough already...I've said my piece. Pros: Great food, small easy to share portions, good service with knowledgable well-trained staff, menus are always changing, friendly owners, great cocktails, family friendly, decently priced for the portion sizes and convenient location Cons: No reservations, but can call ahead to put your name on the list I'm a frequent diner here and have eaten here a few dozen times. I can honestly say I've only had one dish I would't order again. I studied abroad in Italy during college and can honestly say this is some of the best Italian food I've had outside of the homeland. Very creative menu and tastes fresh. Pizzas are done very well and pasta is perfectly al dente (nothing worse than overcooked pasta). Best dishes: Black pepper shrimp with polenta (this is from a guy who doesn't eat shrimp), Fried Aracini, Butchers corner pizza, Pasta with Vodka sauce, seasonal Sachetti, every salad on the menu, panna cotta. We had to wait about 20 minutes during the dinner rush, but it was well worth it. Beer selection was good. And the wood-fired pizzas did not disappoint, the crust was very nice, and the toppings added a lot of flavor without being over the top. This has been our favorite Glen Ellyn-Wheaton restaurant since shortly after it opened. The atmosphere is great, the food is outstanding and the help is properly trained--they know what to do and when. AND, the pricing is fair. You can't ask for more. The restaurant's pork chop is outstanding as are the various seafood dishes and beef items and the sides are always well prepared. We normally get our food take-out these days, and try to get food here several times a year--including birthdays, anniversaries, etc. As I write this, July 1, 2022, the restaurant is surrounded by road and sidewalk construction. When it is done, downtown Glen Ellyn will be much more desirable but in the interim, be careful with the temporary boards and walkways surrounding the restaurant--I think the village of Glen Ellyn over did the amount of construction going on at once--but that is not the restaurant's fault. In the interim, leave your high-heels at home and be very careful when accessing the restaurant, particularly from the North side (Duane street). read more
