In Detroit for the day and searched Yelp for some good eats. Clicked on Firebird Tavern and the reviews sold me. I called and asked about happy hour info and was greeted by very upbeat employee. I showed up to the bar for happy hour at 4:30 and immediately a very friendly and informative bartender named Tim waited on me. Tim guided me in selecting a local beer Ghetto Blaster, it was very good and I always like to try the local brew. As for the entree, I knew I was ordering the chicken cordon bleu sandwich based on previous Yelp reviews. Man was it delicious!! Short ribs were wonderful! great atmosphere. 8 of us were able to roll in for dinner no problem.

Really like the atmosphere of this place. The wood everywhere makes you feel cozy and welcome. I have not actually eaten anything here so this review is just based on the drinks which are very good. The service is good. The bourbon cherries (I believe is their name) are phenomenal. I could eat way to many of them. Will be returning. read more

Came here for dinner and drinks before a concert. It's a typical bar setting. Classic decor, relatively small. Had the French onion soup and a chicken wrap with fries. All of it was delicious and the service was very attentive for a bar atmosphere. Definitely one of the better spots in greektown. read more

Everything from here is amazing! The steak frites are so good. The steak is perfectly cooked every time. The banh mi bowl is so good. I love the tomato soup! I was in town on business and staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. I was looking for a place that I could watch the Cubs playoff game, have dinner and enjoy a couple of craft beers. The Firebird accomplished all of these and then some. Better yet, it was a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The building dates back to the 1800's and is very cool. It features an old wooden bar with lots of tv's and modern amenities. Nicole was wonderful behind the bar and made several good beer suggestions. They have a nice selection of a dozen or so on tap and a full menu of bottles. I had a skirt steak for dinner and it was outstanding, one of the best I have ever enjoyed. On top of everything, the manager gladly put on the Cubs game and turned on the volume when asked by another guest. Great food, beer and fantastic attitudes from Nicole and the manager. read more

I've been to this bar multiple times on the weekend, they're always charging a $5 cover which isn't a lot but our group always ends up leaving with in 15 mins. The third floor is really dark, loud and over crowded. I have gone on weekdays and stay downstairs where it isn't as wild. It's a decent place, take note that they do last call a lot earlier than any other bar I've been to downtown. read more

I brought some people here expecting decent quality food. I more chose this place for the convenience of location and simplicity of the menu than anything else. However, when I see a small menu I usually expect the items that are available to be exceptional. This was the complete opposite. The fries were not even worth my time. They were stringy and tasteless. And my buffalo chicken wrap had no flavor besides the average buffalo sauce. The service was fine, but overall this place was really unimpressive. read more

what a great find. really nice atmosphere, very knowledgeable bartender, good crowd, and a very nice beer and liquor selection. we just stopped in for a couple beers and ended up getting an absolutely phenomenal steak dish to split. to tide us over for dinner. We recently planned a rehearsal dinner for 50 people -held upstairs at the Firebird in Greektown. It was Amazing! We worked with Tony and he made it happen. The artisanal cheeses and antipasto was very nice - would highly recommend. Our buffet dinner consisted of chicken wings (Delish!) jerk chicken with rice (just the right amount of kick) cheese tortellini, pulled pork and chili dogs. A little something for everyone. It was perfect. Of course the assorted pastries were the kids favorite. The bartenders couldn't do enough for us. Thank you Lindsay and Josh for working so hard to make the night run right. The only thing that wasn't 100% on mark was the air conditioning. It was warm is an understatement but it certainly did not hamper the evenings fun. I highly recommend the Firebird for parties. So I don't often write reviews because it's not my thing. But last night of my many nights crossing to catch a game I decided to try something new. I went to Firebird and was shocked. I have my normal haunts and keep to them but the staff here killed it. I was especially please with Suki (sorry if I spelled it wrong). She went above an beyond, very knowledgeable and attentive. Making an effort to find what I needed while introducing me to new things. Good call on the tequila btw, loved it. Anyways that's all I wanted to say. I had a great time and I'll be back. read more

UPDATED 3/13/15: Firebird now charges a $5 cover. This drops it from memorable to just another Greektown bar. One of the best things about Firebird was they were defiant in charging cover (even as other bars around them did). I've never understood why we should have to pay $5 to then go pay for 1000% marked up alcohol. If there is a band or live entertainment, then that makes sense, but $5 just for the privilege of buying expensive booze? Firebird is still a good place, but dropped significantly in my opinion. Firebird is one of the best places to go downtown. The atmosphere gives everyone anything they want: more of a pub style downstairs, a club atmosphere upstairs, and a nice "bonus" room upstairs where you can take a break from dancing and chat. Our bartender, Nicole, was absolutely amazing. She's been on staff twice that I have been there and each time has been one of my best nights out in Detroit. That's no coincidence: she's attentive, friendly, and pours an excellent drink. We'll be back soon! read more

We had an awful experience at Firebird this weekend. We were out with family visiting from out of town and came in around 12:45-1. Even though the bar closes at 2, they actively tried to get us to leave starting at 1:30am. The blonde bartender was particularly rude, here are just a few of the comments she made while shouting from behind the bar at us: 1. "Leave Nerds! 2 "Bye! Get out! 3. When another bartender said we were a pleasure to have she said back "yeah, right". When I asked her if there was a problem, she walked away. Because I asked why she was being so aggressive about us leaving 20 mins before the bar closed, they asked us to leave. I was sober and hadn't been drinking. The whole thing was ridiculous and we won't be returning. That isn't how you treat customers. read more

I'm pregnant, which means frequent potty breaks. I saw Firebird Tavern didn't have a line to get in so I told security my sisters & I would patron the business after I went to the restroom & they could even stay outside while I went in incase security was suspicious. After having to beg outside at the door & explain I was pregnant, security charged me just to use the restroom then said he did us a favor. We went through this "pay to tinkle" fiasco only to then be ignored by the waitstaff & the waitress who saw us seated, walked right by us, then ignored us. After sitting through 10mins of being ignored, we left. They weren't having a busy night & most of the tables were empty. I will never step foot in this establishment again & I will warn others not to do so as well. read more

Walked into Firebird on accident just wandering around Greektown My friends and I did not want a a formal sit down dinner, and this was the right choice. Service was friendly and the the place was not crowded. We ordered beers, a couple of pretzels and the gravy covered fries The pretzel was top notch and a good choice, You got to have one I found the fries were "meh" at 7pm, but I think they would taste even better after midnight after leaving the club or casino.. I would probably avoid this place on a game day as it gets packed, but all and all a good alternative if you do not want to spend an arm and a leg at a restaurant. read more

The DJ here sucked. They had an equipment/audio problem for a solid 10 minutes in the prime time of Saturday night. It was my best friend's birthday, yet silence lingered on. I was utterly disappointed. Then, despite a lack of music we paid cover for, they stopped the music at 1:40am and started ushering us outside. That's some bs if you ask me. Overall, the drummers outside were better than the music inside. Tip them your cover and go somewhere else. read more

Came in for dinner on a busy Saturday for an early dinner. I ordered the fired blt and my husband ordered the fish tacos. BLT was delicious. The fish tacos were ok, not the best but not the worst. A group of us started going to weekly trivia here back in November and have found the experience to be underwhelming and a little frustrating. There seems to be a hefty dose of collaboration between the manager and several of the teams, not to mention a fair amount of cheating that goes either unnoticed or is otherwise sanctioned by the trivia host. It just simply is not fun trying to compete knowing that other teams are being shown blatant favoritism due to their relationship with the bar staff. Food-wise, the buffalo chicken wrap and the cheesesteak are always solid. The beer list leaves a lot to be desired in terms of variety, breadth, and rotation. Once we use up the gift cards from our trivia winnings, we will be on the lookout for a new location. read more

I visited the Firebird Tavern with a couple of friends prior to the 2018 Detroit NAIAS, and had a positive experience. Our group of ten initially tried to visit Pegasus, but were told the wait was almost 20 minutes; as a result, we hopped down the street to the Firebird and were seated immediately (admittedly the staff had to cram together a few tables to accommodate us). Our waitress was patient, and happily explained different options and substitutes for our orders. I ordered The Alden, while my girlfriend snagged a soft-baked pretzel and fries. Within twenty minutes, all of our orders came out piping hot. I was satisfied with The Alden's chicken and brioche combination, but ended up pulling out almost all the ham (there was SO MUCH MORE than what I expected!) I tried a little bit of my girlfriend's pretzel, and while the pretzel bread was well-made, the sheer amount of butter made me a little queasy. Overall, I recommend visiting The Alden based on its service and accommodating nature, but would temper expectations about food quality. read more

Great bar at the top of the Greektown strip, cool old school feel to the building with unique twists on some classic drinks using their house made bourbon. Food is excellent, fried gyros and poutine fries are amazing....great service and solid prices. After 10 the upstairs portion opens up wirh a DJ and dance floors to party all night. read more

The Firebird Tavern was the perfect spot for our rehearsal dinner / welcome party. They rent out the second floor for private events, and it was perfect for our group of 90. We were drawn to Firebird because we loved the historic building, exposed bricks and central Greektown location. The space is well equipped for a rehearsal dinner since they have a good sound system (you can play your own music from an iPad or iPod), wireless microphone, and TVs through the room that are linked to an Apple TV (so we could play a video montage for our guests). The buffet of food was delicious and the setup was beautiful. Monica (the events manager), Tony (the owner) and the entire staff were very helpful and great to work with. The Firebird Tavern was the perfect spot to kick off our wedding weekend. We highly recommend the Firebird for a rehearsal dinner, shower or private event. read more
