My first visit to Firebirds Wood Fired Grill in Lee's Summit -- and overall a solid experience with a few service hiccups worth noting. We arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday and were told there would be about a 10-minute wait, so we opted to grab seats at the bar and have dinner there instead. As the evening went on, we learned there are some trade-offs to dining at the bar. As the restaurant filled up, the bar area became increasingly busy and service naturally slowed. Small but noticeable details -- like water refills -- started getting overlooked. I was also surprised our server never checked in with my wife about her Chicken Pasta, especially since she barely touched it. We started with the Caesar Salad, which was excellent. The portion size was enormous -- easily large enough for two people to share -- with crisp romaine, generous dressing, and plenty of shaved Parmesan. I'm a longtime prime rib fan, so seeing it featured immediately caught my attention. The 13-ounce cut arrived perfectly medium rare, exactly as ordered. The meat was exceptionally tender and flavorful, complemented nicely by a rich au jus and a creamy horseradish ("horsey") sauce that added just the right kick. My wife ordered the Chicken Pasta, which arrived as a very generous portion that could easily serve two. The dish featured grilled chicken over pasta in a spicy Asiago cream sauce. Unfortunately, the heat level was stronger than expected and ended up overpowering the dish for her, leaving most of it uneaten. One highlight of the evening was the Double Black Diamond Martini -- an infusion of fresh pineapple with New Amsterdam Pineapple Vodka. At $7.95 during Happy Hour (normally $13.95), it felt like one of the best values on the menu and was refreshing without being overly sweet. The restaurant was packed throughout our visit and clearly has a loyal following. After six years in this location, Firebirds seems to have built a strong customer base. With a bit more attentiveness to bar diners during peak hours, the experience could easily move from good to great. read more

We finally visited Firebird Grill a few Sundays ago, while the Chiefs were playing, so it was the best time because it wasn't busy. The service was good, but this may have been because they were slow. However, our waitress was friendly and patient as we took out time ordering. What I really liked was that it appeared the menu had a lot of choices to choose from, but we (husband and I) chose the Butchers Meatloaf, which I thought was phenomenal and tasty. The burger was not fresh...previously cooked and taken from a warming pan. McDonald's makes better quarter founders. I asked for a fresh cooked burger medium. It was burnt and rewarmed. As I said. I initially made reservations on Super Bowl Sunday..for my MIL's bday dinner. We pulled up and the lot was empty, I honestly forgot about SB, since all I had on my mind was treating my MIL on her bday. Luckily, they were open. lol. Told them to cancel our reservation & so we could opt for bar seating. MIL had the lobster queso & Prime Rib sliders - she said they were amazing. What a great place! Wife and I went there for a day date and couldn't be happier! The food was cooked perfectly and out in no time. We had the Ahi tuna as an appetizer and we both had steaks. The wife had broccoli as her side and I had the Port Mushrooms. For drinks she had the Dirty bird martini and I had a NA blood orange mule. We both loved them! Walking in, we noticed a few groups enjoying their meals, which created a warm and inviting atmosphere. My husband and I were seated quickly, and the service was both friendly and informative--our host even helped us sign up for the rewards program. The soft drinks and lemonade were refreshing. When our food arrived, it was an interesting experience. My husband ordered the Parmesan-Crusted Chicken with Potatoes and found it enjoyable, though he had mixed feelings about the sun-dried tomato sauce. Our favorite place we ate when visiting Kansas City. Our server Kara was the friendliest person. If we were there visiting longer, we would have gone back in a heartbeat! We met some friends here for dinner, and enjoyed our time with them, and at Firebirds. Our long time Lee's Summit friends recommended this place and we have a wonderful evening. I had a BLT salad, which was one of the best salads I've had in years! The appetizer hard boiled eggs, with candied, bacon, and jalapeños were also delicious! There was a Strip of siracha on the side of the plate, which I got to slide my egg through making it even more magical. The staff had a little bit of a hard time, keeping our drinks coming only one diner, having alcohol, but even Coke refills had to be called out and asked for frequently. A little more attention to detail would have been wonderful. I had the Cajun ribeye, which was pretty good, but you could get a better steak at Longhorn steakhouse or any number of places. My wife had the chicken pasta which she was very fond of. Both of our dining companions enjoyed their entrées one had surf and turf and the other also had the dinner sized BLT salad. Had a gathering here for our daughter's tech school graduation tonight. The blt salad was delicious - a big favorite of ours. I ordered the Feb special, Sliced Wood Grilled Petite Tenderloin Medium Rare Parmesan mashed potatoes / mushrooms / blistered tomatoes / asparagus / port wine sauce The tenderloin came out raw. Cutting into was cutting into a piece of meat that was cooked lightly on the outside and completely pink on the inside. The sides to the dish were cold when served. It was clear the steak was taking longer than the sides, and the the undone steak was served because the cooking temp was not right. Steak was not temped when taken off the grill, as food service workers would have fled at seeing how pink this steak was. I was then served a refire that had the steak pre sliced but still bleeding all over the potatoes. I feel that a restaurant that serves 40+dollar steaks should be able to serve a medium rare order without cutting into the meat, and if the meat is cut into the blood from a medium rare probably shouldn't be apparent in the potatoes. They refired the steak, which took about 10-15 min. My date was finished as I received my meal. The service from management and the overall food experience was not what is to be expected from such a restaurant. read more

My wife and I have been here twice and I was here with a group of friends and she had lunch with her friends another time. The food is fantastic no matter what you order.. I love the nuggets and chili. Last time I had a steak and fruit. It was excellent. My wife has had salads and a burger and agreed that it's good. The fries are good. My wife loves the lemonade but for some reason this last trip did not include the sugar rim?? It's definitely on the higher end price wise... Lunch is the better deal. On our last trip we found out we crossed to dinner mmm expect $40 or more per person plus drinks or apps or desserts. Service had been very good except this last time apparently we were a bother to waitress who just plopped ketchup or drinks down and was not very friendly. If that had been our first experience the rating would be lower and we'd be less likely to return. read more

We came here for Father's Day'. Someone at the hubs job's recommended it. I told him this is the last time we take recommendations. I made a reservation a week in advance. We got there, they had to clean off a table. Ok, no worries. When we went to sit down, the table and the booth seats were wet, like very wet. I used my napkin to wipe my seat off and the table. It was so wet, they menu was wet and slippery. Our wait staff came over very quickly to take our drink orders. I hadn't even looked at the menu but skimmed and gave it. We ordered two apps: Lobster Spinach Dip and the wings. Our dip was cold when it came out but the wings were not‍. I kept hearing our waitstaff say to her other tables that the kitchen was backed up. I ordered a Caesar Salad and the New York Strip. I asked for my steak well done but not charred. Yes, a well done steak can be juicy and flavorful if you know what you're doing. Hubs had the ribeye ordered the same way and the kid had a burger. Hubs steak was charred as well. The Cajun butter was a nice touch and glad I added it to my steak because if I didn't, it would have been very dry. Oh, the drinks. I ordered a Perfect Margarita they tasted like juice with a hint of tequila. I know places like this aren't going to load you up on liquor but it really tasted like juice. It damn near could have been a virgin. Overall, we won't be returning. For the price of the place, I would expect more but then again, not really just by being in there. I came here with a couple of friends Saturday evening to have a double date night before going out for a movie. Google Reviews place this restaurant at a solid 4/5 while Yelp held it at a fair 3.5. Of course I'm all for having a good time and I heard the drinks were pretty top notch. We arrived and got seated ten minutes earlier than scheduled and the nice waitress took our drink order. I think about ten minutes later the other half of our group arrived and placed their drink orders as well however I did find it strange they received their drinks before my husband and I did. I wasn't too bothered by it because we were surrounded by great people so I didn't mind. I ordered the Ahi Tuna appetizer, just something to digest while we were enjoying our drinks which were certainly delicious. I liked the Ahi but I felt personally the tuna was sliced too thick, and it seemed held in a cold temperature AFTER the sear. I generally prefer that the sear is done before it comes to the table (unless it sat out for a while after the sear? I don't really know..). When Ahi Tuna is seared and then placed back into a cold temperature, it gets tough and a little dry. I had to request some soy sauce (I would recommend Ponzu at any time for this particular dish honestly) because it was just hard to get down due to it being a bit dry. When the waitress came around to check how things were I asked for anything to dip it in other than the mustard and she said all they had was mustard. While the Ahi was still good, it just had room for improvement. I've nothing really unkind to say about it I just sort of wish it was a little nicer. Everyone LOVED their drinks but then later came the food, I don't want to sit and nitpick about food issues individually but I do want to say that there was multiple mention around the table that night about food being just Okay. I went into this restaurant yelp-blind, I didn't read any yelp reviews prior to showing up because I didn't want to arrive with any particular feelings based on other opinions since I wanted to decide my own. My friend ordered a pasta and she said there certainly could have been more sauce, or perhaps the sauce was too thin because it would escape the noodles and sit at the bottom. I had the striped Bass and everything on the plate was really tasty but I just WISHED there was more sauce. I don't know if the food that was prepared that evening was just overcooked by a minute or two, or if it sat under a lamp, but I don't know it just seemed really dry. I feel personally adding a little bit of extra sauce would go SUCH a long way, I'd rather have just a little too much sauce than not enough and sadly it felt like the table didn't have enough, and this included the Ahi Tuna which was drier than I'd like. My friends loved the steak eggrolls, our drinks were the talk of the table because they were perfect, the tableside service and waitress were stellar, and of course the dessert was fantastic. Crème Brule cheesecake? Don't mind if I do!! I desperately want to give this place at least 4 stars (of course I would have loved to give it 5) but since we all had similar complaints for totally separate dishes and these are complaints that remain on yelp even now, I will have to leave it at 3 stars until we return and see how it goes the next time around. Chefs don't be afraid to pull the protein from the heat RIGHT on time and temp it just right, and don't be afraid to add the sauce! :) read more

Pasta was undercooked, chicken was overcooked, and it was garnished with soft chopped tomatoes. Pretty terrible. My wife ordered the salmon cesar salad. Over dressed and undercooked salmon. Should have sent it back. Service was terrible, children sitting at the bar asking for alcohol whenever their dad went out to smoke. (Very uncomfortable). Between being seated and getting water was about 15 minutes, another 25 minutes before our food came. General feel was very unwelcoming. Food was amazing and Zach was an excellent server. He was very attentive and super nice. 12oz ribeye was cooked to perfection (my husband is a steak snob) and he was very happy with the flavor. I had the salmon and it was delicious. I got the mushrooms for a side (because I love veggies and weird things that grow in the dirt) and they were so flavorful! Excellent choice with the salmon.
