    Teriyaki salmon.

Great place for lunch if you are visiting the Boardwalk. It's a quick walk to the pier and part of the restaurant has an ocean-front view. Service was decent and the teriyaki salmon plate from the "light lunch" section on the menu was perfect for a beach day and not too heavy.

Food was so good, great location on the wharf, and excellent service! Margarita was perfect too!

We got the clam chowder bread bowls for a good price! Service was quick to seat around 7pm for dinner but pretty lax once seated. Views were amazing, however would not recommend for someone scared of heights since it's out far on the pier. Overall

We enjoyed a delightful experience at FireFish on the pier. They don't take reservations so we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a table by the window but that was our choice. The friendly host apologized a number of times for the wait. There were other tables available. We were seated snd had a great view of the water. Ordered a cocktail and enjoyed the view. Our waiter (Andrea) was very friendly snd very good. I had crab cakes and risotto and both were excellent. My husband loved his shrimp scampi. I wanted tartar sauce for the crab cakes and it was easy to get our waiter's attention. We arrived at about 7pm and the place really emptied out by the time we were done. People eat early in Santa Cruz. The view, the service and the food were all excellent and the price was right too. Definitely going back.

Ok I'm in Santa Cruz for my annual visit and the one guaranteed stop is a visit to Firefish. When they finally reopened after the fire I was very excited to go back. This place has been my favorite seafood restaurant for a long time. I have written 5 Star reviews for them a few times. Sadly, today that was not possible. Showed up around 4:30 and it was fairly empty. We were seated immediately and greeted by our server in very short order. My cousin order the special which was fresh petrale sole and I had the halibut fish and chips. The order came out fairly quickly and my cousin like her entree but she said it was a bit salty. My fish and chips on the other hand was very dry like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while and the chips were just warm and got cold by the end of my dinner. Very disappointing.... But only by comparison to my previous visits. At $30 it was an expensive mediocre dinner. I'm now wondering if I should look for a new favorite. There are always many choices in the area.

I have gone to quite a few spots to get clam chowder in Santa Cruz, and this is one of my favorites. It's so good! The restaurant is also gorgeous, right on the wharf overlooking the water. Our waitress was so kind (and patient since we took forever ), so shoutout to her!!

Service, quality, and menu variety were excellent, and the location couldn't be better. You're right on the dock! We started with side garden salads and garlic bread - both fresh and delicious. I had the seafood skewers (shrimp, salmon, and scallops + peppers & onions) served with veggies and rice pilaf, and everything was fantastic. My husband ordered the cioppino, which he rated a solid B+ (he would've given it an A if the broth had been a bit lighter). My dad went with the 'catch of the day' special--panko sole with veggies, mashed potatoes, a side salad, and dessert - all for just $27, which was a great value. My mom thoroughly enjoyed her shrimp scampi paired with a glass of wine. Overall, a wonderful meal for the whole family.

Drove up to Santa Cruz from Monterey and stopped in this place because their menu looked amazing plus their host at the time was very kind and helpful with the menu. We tried their seafood skewers, rice pilaf with fresh vegetables; everything tasted freshly delicious and cooked to perfection. Their beurre blanc sauce was outstanding. Service was good. The restaurant is clean, bright, with nautical decor and a spectacular view off the pier of the sea and coastline. 9f we ever come back, we will definitely stop in again! Yum! Bravo to the chef!

My hubs is up here for work so I came to stay with him for the weekend for our anniversary. I have been craving King Crab like crazy. I honestly thought that being up here right next to the ocean that seafood restaurants would be in abundance. I was wrong. I was happy when we decided to try Firefish and they had King Crab! We got here for an early dinner at 6pm on a Saturday night and it was relatively empty. We got a table tucked in a back corner next to the windows that had an amazing view of the water. Our server was very sweet, and very nervous. He said it was his first night, so we went easy on him! Hahaha! Any question that we had that he couldn't answer, he made it his priority to go and find it. The food was good. The prawns were bigger that how they look in the picture. They were very tasty. My hubs said the oysters were really good, and they were gone within minutes! Lol. The crab was cooked perfectly and was very good. The sides were pretty basic and tasted good. Nothing extraordinary about them, but they were good. When we got our bill we noticed we were charged for a few things we didn't order. We pointed it out and our server apologized profusely and fixed it. The manager came over to apologize, and while we weren't upset over it because things happen, it was nice that they wanted to make sure we were happy. Its a nice spot to have have dinner and I wouldn't mind coming back.

Off The HOOK (pun intended) excellent! The view is spectacular. Water view from any seat but luckily we were right by the window. Appetizers were the seared ahi tuna which was delicate and flavorful. The shrimp was also excellent. We opted for the halibut at market price, which was 42.95 today and it was expertly prepared in a caper sauce that didn't overwhelm the fish but added a nice creaminess and caper flavor. We opted to sub the risotto for the potatoes. Risotto is one of my favorite things and it can either be over or undercooked many times, so when it's perfect, it is heavenly. This was heavenly and the perfect complement to the mild flaky halibut. A couple of hearty stalks of asparagus and all nestled on a carrot purée which added a bit of sweetness to the dish. This was an amazing delicious dish and was perfectly cooked! Someone had commented about pricing on another review, and honestly, recently I ordered halibut and it was 55 and was not comparable to this preparation or even close. This was one of the nicest meals we have had in the area. Service was excellent, view excellent, and food was exquisite. Drinks were very good also. Some wine and an espresso martini as well. Thank you chef! The risotto belongs with that halibut! Posting a pic but I had taken some bites first so it's not as lovely as when it was served.

Had dinner here just as the weather was turning chilly a while back and it was a lovely time. We were actually in town celebrating my birthday, which is why I treated myself to oysters. Really, is there a greater joy to be had than enjoying oysters next to the ocean with a tasty adult beverage? This place had great ambience thanks to their seaside views and the service was top notch as well. My spouse enjoyed his scallops and I enjoyed my chowder. I'm glad we chose this place while walking along the pier, it was the right choice.

The king salmon crudo was beautifully composed, fresh and bright, and the peaches were a standout, simple but perfectly executed. The chicken schnitzel was crispy, well-seasoned, and satisfying in all the right ways. The NY Strip was where things got slightly complicated. The seasoning and flavor were genuinely excellent; the spice profile was spot on and the crust had great character. However, about a third of the cut was too fatty to eat, which was disappointing at that price point. It didn't ruin the experience, but it did feel like a quality-control miss on what was otherwise a beautifully cooked piece of meat. Also, put this steak over something else besides elaborate mixed greens. Service was warm and knowledgeable, and the space has a wonderful energy. Bad Animal is doing something right (for the most part). Hopefully I'll make it back but hoping for a better trim on the steak next time.

Go before morels are out of season!!! We went big to celebrate a belated birthday. Our first course - Mocktail for my friend, and the Midnight Oil for me. It was like the elegant older sister of a Manhattan. Spirit forward but also subdued. The seasonal salad: OMG the wasabi peas + the green olives + the goat cheese balls? F*N BRILLIANT! Maybe the best salad I've ever had at a restaurant. Top 3 of all time minimum. Morel fettuccine: Mmmmm! Homemade pasta that reminded me of spatzle with morel and truffle toma. Salsa verde plus fried basil and sage for garnish. Delicious!! The toma and morels together gave this faint smokiness that layered beautifully with the verde. For mains- my friend raved about the Yuzu Glazed Chicken, and I had the Celeriac Branzino which was perfection. The fish was cooked exactly right - crispy skin, flaky flesh. The dish as a whole was delightfully creamy, bright, crispy and grounded with a little hint of savory fresh dill. The lotus root chip garnish was a wonderful repetition of the crunchy texture. Loved it! Dessert - There's no way we were leaving without dessert, and the lemon blueberry cheesecake did not disappoint! Pecan crumble crust, hidden whole bloobs in the seemingly whipped cheesecake, topped with lemon curd and blueberry preserves. And the toasted meringue garnish? Yes, yes please. Luckily, the waitresses didn't hesitate to seat our party of 6. (3 hungry kids & 3 adults) We ordered the: -Garlic New York Steak- medium rare & it was so good. Cooked perfectly & topped with roasted garlic. Mixed in the garlic herb butter with the mashed potatoes. It was delish! - Mac & cheese: we ordered a large & it was really yummy & enough for all of us to share. - Tiramisu: I was excited to order this and it did not disappoint. I'm always on the hunt for a good piece of tiramisu, as it's hard to find especially infused with rum. Not only was the flavor & texture perfect, it was paired with whip cream sprinkled with cocoa powder & strawberries. Such a tasty combination. Also, I'd like to give a special shout out to our waitress & chef for being so accommodating to us. They stayed open way after closing time & didnt rush us. For one of our entrees, as we cut the steak, we accidentally dropped 1/2 of it. Since it was our fault we weren't going to ask for another steak. However, when our waitress found out, she asked the chef to make another one. Surprisingly, they were very generous to give us an entire new plate. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and will be sure to dine here again during our next visits!

The lettuce is crisp and fresh, the eggs are thinly strained, which make for a wonderful mouthfeel and flavor with the green goddess dressing. The crispy bacon, croutons, and sunflower seeds make for a nice contrast in texture - The brick chicken - this is one of their signature dishes, and for good reason. 3% fee for credit cards…read more I highly recommend the distillery tour. Book it in advance. It's super informative and fun. Afterward, there is a tasting of each spirit; however, the pours are very small; about 1/4 ounce of each spirit. It's such a small taste that it's not much more than "smelling" the gin. Which is fine. They make a total of 21 spirits, including 7 whiskeys. Highlights: For their gin, they use Lambic potstills; they have no column stills with baskets. Since they only use potstills, they macerate all the botanicals; it's a "wet" gin. Gin 01 is the flagship, and loaded with lavender. They sell 10000 cases per year. It's available at Whole Foods state-wide, and at the Santa Cruz Costco. Costo sells Gin 01 for $28, a significant discount from the $34 price at the distillery. Gin 01 works best with floral and citrusy cocktails like a corpse reviver #2. Gin 02 is a lightly barrel aged gin. It's aged for 2 months, and each barrel gets used twice. The gin is infused with bay leaf, sage, and fennel: it's more savory. They use bay leaf foraged at Delaveaga park, and they get sage and fennel from a farm nearby. I detected a cedar flavor. It's better with heavier cocktails, like a Paper Plane. They do seasonal gins: One for each season. For gin and tonics served at the distillery, they make their own tonic: it has a lavender note. It also uses chinchona, bitter orange, grapefruit, and elderflower. They have blue agave spirits. They get agave from farms in Yolo county. The farms do the pit roasting for them. The blanco tequila uses champagne yeast. The reposado spirit is aged for 11 months. Their mezcal is more peppery, less smokey. For whiskey: - They have a Port barrel finished whiskey that is really tasty. - I thought the rye was very sweet. - For their peated whiskey, they use malted barley imported from Scotland. Their single malt uses a crystal malt. Overall, it was a very fun visit.
