Firehouse Bagels in Holtsville is by far the worst bagel spot I've ever been to. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll with an orange juice, and the experience was appalling. While paying, I noticed the staff handling money and food without washing their hands--a major health violation. That alone was enough to make me uncomfortable, but it gets worse. After eating, I experienced severe stomach pain that hasn't subsided. This place is unsanitary, disgusting, and far below the standards expected in New York. Someone needs to call the health department because this level of cleanliness is unacceptable. I will never return, and I strongly advise others to stay away.Health department needs to check this place. Your standard Long Island bagel place. We stopped by around 11 am on a Sunday, and they were completely out of bagels which were were not thrilled about. We went with egg sandwiches instead which were a reasonable price and pretty good - nothing too unique but did the job. If you are heading in for bagels, make sure you get there early. read more

This place is small with more of a deli than bagel store feel. It's right by my old house and I used to stop in a few mornings every month for a bagel and now whenever I'm home. I always get a salt bagel with butter and they have the best salt bagels around. There's a good amount of salt, but not overbearing and not lacking. I also get a cinnamon raisin bagel toasted with cream cheese which is awesome as well. Buttered bagel is only 1.50. The brothers here are really nice. I usually see the younger one and he always strikes up a chat with me about the Rangers during hockey season. Also on the weekends they do a dozen bagels for like $5 or $6 which cannot be beat! Just went in to get a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese. The lady didnt even put enough cream cheese on a half of the side of the bagel. And i counted three raisins in the bagel. The owner doesnt care about his business. He needs to just close the doors. There is no way that place is profitable. Oh and the granite is complety cracked near the register. The carpet is dirty. This is one of the 3 bagel/deli spots in the area near my job and it is my least favorite. When i walked in i instantly regretted my decision but i had already promised to give it a chance. It seemed old and dingy. There was a layer of black dirt on all the refrigerators and it had a slight odor. I order 4 bagels, 2 with butter, 1 cream cheese and the other tuna. I was the only one in the shop and there were two ladies making the orders behind the counter. It took forever for them to make my order, it seemed like an eternity. They moved slowly and there containers and bowls looked like they had brought them in from their own homes. I did not like this place at all. The only plus was that it had a decent amount of seating but after seeing how dirty it was i would never sit down. read more

We were out in the area for USCIS, and stopped by for breakfast. The service was moderate, but the tables hadn't been cleaned. The food was just OK. I really wasn't impressed, but it doesn't seem like there were many options in the area. They display the bagels, so you can see your options. I have given this place MULTIPLE chances since I live so close to them and it's very convenient. However I am now done. They mess up orders almost every single time I go. Whether they give you someone else's order, mess up your own order or completely forget parts of your order. It's very frustrating to get charged and then when you get home to eat it's completely wrong. I suggest finding a new bagel place if you want the correct breakfast order. read more

I came here yesterday with my son for a quick breakfast before school. I ordered an everything bagel with butter my son ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese. He already had a drink I ordered a small coffee. There was no one else in the bagel store so when I open my sandwich and my son opened his I found it kind of odd that the sandwiches weren't cut all the way through...its not like you were busy.... and that my sons wasn't even cut in equal halves. Its not that hard to cut a bagel in half...aim for the middle! The bagels are pretty pedestrian and as for the price...the order above was almost $7. Seriously?!?! Needless to say I won't be back...I'll drive the extra 5 minutes to a better bagel shop... I guess that's why some stores have lines out the door and you guys were dead empty with a miniscule selection of bagels. 2 stars because the coffee was hot. read more

While on a trip to the Island, we kept a lookout for a good New York bagel place. After one not so great bagel and a few places that were no longer open, we found this gem. This was a great breakfast place. It is a smaller place but we still had plenty of room to enjoy our breakfast. The guy working behind the counter was very friendly and got our bagels out fast and still hot. Better yet, they put a generous amount of cream cheese on it and the prices were cheap. I can't think of any negative to mention about this place. It was great and I would highly recommend giving them your business. read more

They also have a a decent lunch menu as well... Small menu overall but the food was excellent. I don't usually post bad reviews but this is warranted. This place... disgusting. I went in because my goto place was closed due to the storm. Barely any bagels on display, the cold cut/salad case empty as it looked broken. This place is so dirty and disgusting. The kid making my food was "wearing a mask" but really wasn't since it sat below his nose and he wasn't wearing gloves. I watched him call over the other employee to ask her to slice a tomato since apparently he didn't know how to do that. How do you work in place that makes deli sandwiches and not know how to slice a tomato? Back to dirty.. while waiting for my food I couldn't help but be so grossed out with the peeling floor, ripped cloth covering the table in front of the counter, dirty and missing ceiling tiles, etc...I paid my $ for my order and threw my food in the trash on the way out... I was concerned about how unsanitary this place was and didn't want to get sick. Note to owner... either take pride in your business or close it down. read more

Just had a bagel of firehouse from the gulf station off 495. Damn I don't know if I was starving or that bagel was phenomenal! Bagel was soft, cream cheese had great flavor. All around great job! Hope to see you in more stores. read more

I was really pumped for this place - ice cream, deli, slushi, bagels all rolled into one! Then I paid and found out their "rule" 5.00 minimum because then they would lose .35 cents on credit and debit card transactions. I'm glad they got what they wanted - the 35 cents instead of returning customers and I'm pretty sure it's illegal - guess I have another complaint to file with nys following this review. read more

Had the worst experience, the lady behind the counter, I think the owner, ignored her employees request for help. She looked annoyed and grumpy. The place is dirty and rundown, no one uses gloves. There is no selection drinks/snacks. The food that is prepared looks like expired leftovers. It smells funky in there. I've already warned a few people not to go there! read more

This place is filthy, the food isn't great, the owners' sons used to harass anyone who will listen into hearing their song or watching their music video- which looks like it was filmed on an iPhone camera; and they only have 2 decent employees anymore: the older woman who works weekdays and the kid with the bandana who works weekends (I haven't seen him recently though). There's also a Spanish lady who worked there last time I went- she was nice but barely spoke English, made my order wrong, and charged me incorrectly. Also my friend's son worked there recently and quit because they taxed him 22% off the books. This place is a joke- and don't even get me started on the roach I saw on the coffee machine up front- I've only been recently because the weekday lady never screws up my order. read more

My fiancé went to the store with a simple order of 2 bagels toasted with cream cheese. When she got home we opened our bagels to find that they were really toasted........BLACK! Unedible, dry, and burnt bagels. Now it's one thing if the bagel or cream cheese tastes off, but whoever is putting the spread on the bagels has to see that they're black and not give a damn. Very disappointing. I did call and they did apologize and offered to remake or give my next order for free but there will be no next time for us. read more

Bagels are good and prices are fair. My only complaint is with their delivery service. They advertise delivery, but on one occasion, I was simply told "we're not delivering today", which is OK - people call in sick, etc, it happens. On another occasion, I was told it'd be 20 minutes for delivery - more than fair. After 40 minutes, I called back asking for an ETA and was told 10 minutes. Finally, after a total of AN HOUR AND 20 MINUTES after I'd called, I called back to cancel and they said the driver just left. He arrived with cold egg sandwiches (which went right into the garbage) and warm sodas. Their excuse? "Sorry, we got really busy." That's fine, but if you're too busy to have a dedicated delivery driver, then don't offer it. Additionally, they took my phone # when they originally took my order, so they easily could've called me back and told me that there would be a delay and/or asked me if I still wanted the food.
