Three of us had an exceptionally delicious dinner here tonight, combined with great service from two friendly staff. We live near the Firehouse and regularly enjoy many of their standard dishes, e.g., the short ribs, and whichever fish is featured that day. We've probably dined there 30 times since it opened; it's a go-to kind of neighborhood place. Relaxed and friendly and cozy in size. There are two consistent things that prevent me from giving it better ratings. One is very significant, a health matter; the other is a matter of taste. Most recently, in early April 2016, a family member ate the raw oysters and became so painfully sick within an hour or two that we were very close to taking him to the E.D. at Stanford. Sadly -- I have personal knowledge of 3 friends' incidents with oysters eaten at the Firehouse. In one case, she called to notify the manager of the diner's distress, and was told, "Michelle Pfeiffer eats our oysters." AS IF that makes a difference, or changes the outcome? Seriously .. who cares whether a supposed celeb got sick or not? The second, subjective, issue is dessert. Clearly not a priority here. The selection is uninspired, and we never order them. Stay away from their raw oysters, and don't crave dessert. You'll be fine. read more

Came here twice. First time about two weeks ago, we hosted a party of six. The service was a little off but the food was very nice, the ambience quiet and the wine great. The only nic was that we were seated in an awkward table in the front of the house right next to the front door which kept opening on us. The lady at the far end of the table was not accessible to the wait staff due to this awkward arrangement so all her food and dishes were passed back and forth by way of the two guests either side of the table which was mildly awkward but fortunately we are a casual group. The setting is quite nice and it was quiet so we thought we'd like to try it again with just the two of us. We had a reservation on Valentines Day and it was just a mess. While our waiter was nice (and pained since the evening was going awry for every table around us) but the kitchen and service staff were totally out of sync. We sat down and ordered wine and a cocktail and were pressed to select our entire meal from a prix fixe menu right away, server citing that things were running low. Our appetizers came out before the amuse bouche and champagne starter (which they eventually tried to serve twice) , and after watching tables around us being served their meals while they were just beginning their first course we requested that the kitchen slow down our meal a bit. Needless to say, when our meals (quickly) arrived they were both ice cold. We both had the filet and both were cooked to order and presented nicely, but had clearly been sitting in the back waiting for us to be ready. As we tried to enjoy our meal we watched at least six staff members wander around aimlessly with food in hand looking for tables on which to drop their food off, only to be shooed away by waiters and patrons whose meals were coming out of the kitchen ill timed and out of order. Another faux pas, someone offered us more bread, and came back and dropped bread onto our dish rather than taking it back or refreshing it with a new plate. The cherry on the cake was the stereo blasting Frank Sinatra's "Love and Marriage" and "New York New York" amidst the chaos. It was like being in a bad hotel/convention luncheon. Not a meal I'd like to pay $200 plus dollars for again. read more

I was so excited to go to Firehouse Bistro, unfortunately it was very disappointing. Cocktails were not worth drinking, sent back the martini because it was room temperature and they forgot to put the gin in! Service was slow, had to ask twice to have our order taken, 1 hour wait between the salad course and the main, waiter never came to check on how we liked our dinner. I ordered the Salmon, the flavor would have been good but the salmon was so over cooked and cold that I took one bit and couldn't eat it. The busboy cleared my plate without asking, waiter came to check if we wanted desert, I tried to tell him about my salmon but he didn't care..he was to busy, funny since we were one of only two tables left in the place...there didn't seem to be anyone in charge or any sort of management. The other three mains were fair. It was our guests wedding anniversary, we had planned to have desert but we all decided to walk to the Village Pub to have desert and a glass of Champagne to save the night. I had high hopes that Woodside would have a new good dining local...I truly hope they can fix the problems. read more

Unfortunately, both times that we have dined at this bistro we had the same server, because of his impersonal demeanor and his terrible service we will not be dining here any longer. Overpriced entrees. Presentation so so, especially when charging high prices for the food. Wine by the glass is very $$$$. Frank family Chardonnay $18/glass! Crazy! Corkage $$$! $25 Crazy too! Our waiter certainly should not be working in the service industry. Unfortunately, we don't remember his name. Heavyset, tall, dark hair /features. Ambience is charming. Although, the four of us were seated in the bar area(didn't like it, as feel like you are dining alone and much rather be in the main dining area.) We had to keep asking to have the heat turned down. It was blasting and we felt as though we were in a sauna. Really wish we had had a better positive experience at Firehouse bistro. Love the quaint location and easy parking. read more

We took some friends out to dinner here recently. We were originally going to go to VP, but I've been wanting to try FB out for a while. Super cute & cozy, food was ok. Lots of potential if they can take feedback from customers & put changes into practice. I also felt that the service was rushed. No biggie, new restaurants always need about a year to pull it together. I hope they do VP is strong competition, but I'd like to see this place stick around! read more

Intimate, casual setting with great service and an amazing menu! The highlight of the evening was the food. Chef Chelsea and her brigade work their culinary magic in one of the cleanest kitchens I have ever seen...I appreciate that! We were a party of 8 for this, my first visit, and the food came out at a well-timed pace. House-made focaccia with a fresh herb olive oil to start followed by some of the best dishes I've had in a while. Everything looked so good that we played the "do you want to taste this?" game all around the table and everything was on point from the pea soup to the farmer's greens salad and beyond. The asparagus risotto was perfect as was the cook (mid-rare) on the filet. The short ribs were 'melt in your mouth' delicious. Sadly, due to our late arrival, they were out of oysters (which we had come specifically to try) but I guess that's a testament to how fresh they will be when we return. In place of that, we ordered the steamed mussels in a red curry broth. They were on the small side (which I love in a mussel) and the broth was so good that we asked to take it home...I make no apologies for this! We are going to use it for a kick-ass veggie/tofu stir fry tonight We also shared 2 orders of the house made burrata. We actually ordered one but it was so delicious that we ordered a second. I don't eat desserts but my table ordered 3 to share and they were gone in seconds. They have a very nice and reasonably priced wine selection as well as a full bar so everyone was happy. The service was great! Professional, patient and personable. A special nod to Rob who stayed with us with a smile on his face to the end, which was late because we were having so much fun. He let us split the bill 5 ways and knew exactly who had what so everyone was billed appropriately. I know this is a huge pain but he never made it seem as such, which was very impressive and much appreciated! I hope everyone has the same experience we did. This has been a top notch experience across the board! I made my reservation through OpenTable, where I left a comment that this would be a birthday dinner for my lovely wife. As we walked in the restaurant I was taken by the warm, cosy atmosphere of this place (the fireplace adds an extra touch to an intimate environment). We were greeted by friendly staff who let us pick the table of our choice. The menu fits on one page (no, there is no number 63 on the menu!), but the quality of the food was excellent! My wife took Cast Iron Seared & Roasted Duck Breast a la Plum, which was one of the best she had in a long time. My daughter went for Pan Seared Salmon and I, after some hesitation, went for the filet mignon. Each of them were well presented and just delicious! After we finished our main course, we were surprised by a beautiful dessert plate to celebrate by wife's birthday! Go check this place out, you will not be disappointed! read more

We went last evening and had a wonderful time. It is very well decorated and comfortable. We started with beef carpaccio and the beet salad, both very good. Nice wine list and full bar. I had the diver scallops and my wife the gnocchi, great flavor and presentation. I had the pear dessert, again it was great. The service was attentive and very professional. The prices were fair and portions just right. I highly recommend you trying it. We will be back. read more

Food was delicious, service was efficient and pleasant. However, the restaurant was very dark in the back area and cell phones flashlights were required to read the menu, I'm not sure if I would want to eat here any later that 7.30pm as the space felt very tight and I would imagine that the noise level would increase exponentially. overall a positive experience. read more

It's hard to find restaurant food that is really good and not over sauced. The menu at Firehouse Bistro is not huge, but they use honest, local ingredients, and the people are really nice. One of the best neighborhood restaurants around. read more

We came here for a late dinner on our anniversary. We had the Kushi Oysters and Salmon Tartare to start, followed by the Petrale Sole and Short Ribs. We ended with the Lemon Raspberry Tart for dessert. Rarely do we go to a restaurant where we thoroughly enjoy every single item on the menu. The service was very good also. My only concern was that there weren't more people there, but it was 9 pm on a Sunday evening. We wish FB all the best and hope we will be back soon. read more

A great dinner last night! We had gone there because the online menu advertised fois gras, but the restaurant menu had changed! Very disappointed at first. But, the burrata and fig salads were perfect, as were the filets. Probably the best rare filet ever. And the massive helping of morel mushroom mix was heaven. My lavender creme brulee was another perfect offering. So very glad that we ate there!!!!! read more

We came here to try something new for my husband's birthday. We bike past it all the time but had no idea what to expect. The menu is small but they were very accommodating when I wanted to make changes. Our server and all the staff were great. The mussels were outstanding and my scallops and my husband's filet were terrific. We will definitely be back. read more

Dinner tonight at Firehouse Bistro was terrific! On a few prior visits, the food was great, but the service a bit slow. Tonight everything hit the mark. Food was creative and delicious, service extremely attentive and professional. When there were several errors we made (our fault) the waiter fixed them promptly and guilt-free. We happened to use a gift certificate that was for slightly more than our bill. Instead of issuing a credit certificate, which would have ensured our return visit, they gave us the difference in cash. This was a small, but telling aspect of the warmth and generosity of food, service, ambience and spirit that is the Firehouse Bistro. (We wish we could give 4 1/2 stars. So instead of rounding down we're rounding up.) read more

We ate here this past Friday evening with four wonderful friends. The food was all around great (definitely 5 star quality). The only down side was the service. The service was below average. Oddly, the server, who had waited on us on two prior occasions, was clearly off her game. We needed to ask for everything (in some cases more than once). It wasn't clear as to whether the staff was "down a man" or she was just having a bad night. One other point (not service related) was the corkage ($25). In spite of the the fact that we brought three bottles of wine plus ordered six cocktails we were charged the full $75. Maybe a pet peeve however we've experienced many an upscale restaurant where the corkage is "balanced" against the fact that you ordered alcohol. Will we go back - absolutely! read more
