I am part of the market here about 6 times a year, for 5 years now? and I see often times, the staff setting outside for a reception. The tables setting up with fresh flowers, always tempted me to have a celebration of one of my sons, soon! I tell that to myself every year. This year, it finally happened. It was a crisp Autumn, we have a table right at the door entrance (later on they closed it for the night). It was about 63 degrees. It wasn't windy. It wasn't raining! I thought we would be upstairs, because, while using the restrooms (for the use of the vendors), I didn't think there was enough seats for downstairs, but I was wrong. Anyway, we get to tour upstairs, for larger groups, and the youngest one specially who is into firemen, and fire engines, got to see what an old 'firehouse' used to look like upstairs. I've always wondered, as I look up from my booth space, what it was like upstairs. Thanks, for letting my family go take a peek. The foods we ordered, were all for sharing. Everyone enjoyed everything. I thought, I was having my first Burrata, it was exceptionally good, but oldest son said he made that at his house, once. (I must not have enjoyed it, but I liked the Firehouse' better). We also Margherita and Pepperoni Pizza. Pizza was fantastic. Marinated Beets, Herbed Yoghurt, Fresh Horseradish, Hazelnuts. Butternut Squash Pasta and the Pork Ragu. They were devoured by all of us, all good! Really enjoyed it. Side dishes were good. Cocktails were also very good. My family goes to Firehouse for all of my mom's birthdays and for mothers day (She LOVES this place). I am gluten-free (celiac) and Firehouse is always able to accommodate - I had a steak and potatoes, and an order of the Brussel Sprouts and they were DELICIOUS. The cocktails here are absolutely gorgeous and delicious. The overall vibe of the restaurant is beautiful, and provides a rustic, unique experience. Staff was knowledgable about what items were gluten free and which were not. I would say they do not offer gluten-free crust for their pizza which was unfortunate, because prior to becoming gluten-free, they were one of my favorites! Other than that, love this place! This has become my favorite restaurant. Every time I eat there, I think I've found my new favorite dish (until I go back and find another favorite). I go there often with my family, and we all love it. I don't think 5 stars is enough! The pizza is incredible, but so is everything else! Even just their starter bread and butter/herb mix is worth going for. It's a family favorite for sure. I have had all of their side veggie dishes as well, and I love the unique flavors. Went here for a Friday date night with my fiancee. We ordered a Margherita Pizza, a burrata salad and garlic bread with pesto aioli. The salad was delightful. It had a citrus vinaigrette and candied walnuts. Yum. The pizza was good, it did have a rather watery base which made it hard to pick up a slice without all the toppings and cheese fall off. The tiramisu was okay. I think I am more drawn to traditional tiramisu, the one here is served in a glass cup. Overall it wasn't a bad an experience. The pizza is cooked in a firewood oven and gives it a nice Smokey flavor. We sat outside since it was so nice out. It did take awhile to get seated despite it not being very busy but there was only one hostess and one waitress so I get it. read more

My family arranged an 80th birthday party for me here and it was a total success! Family was allowed to go early to decorate, even though on this Saturday, they were not open until 5 pm. We had the whole area upstairs, which was spacious and well lit. There was a restroom off the main room. The food was absolutely delicious, whether it was the mushroom pizza or the roasted carrots and the cauliflower (my personal favorite). They all loved the rigatoni, both the vegetarian and the regular. The young man in charge absolutely Brock his neck to make sure that we were all happy and had what we needed. We used to eat here all the time... at least two times a week.... Then the original owner/chef sold it to the present day operation. At the transition time they promised that they would not be making any changes... a difficult promise to make but one the customers whom built the receipts up to the sale value accepted with hope. We went back a few times and the good started to taste different, not long after. So when Compana across the street opened up, we found a new place to eat! Today we thought we would try Firehouse again, we looked at the menu and immediately noticed that the Arancini and the Pot de Crème were missing from the menu but the Clam Pizza caught our eye! We got the clam pizza, marinated beets and the cauliflower. Here's what we experienced: -pizza; the crust recipe has changed onto a chewy rather than crisp cracker style crust (more like some common pizza chain). Puzza was also nearly half the size they used to be and the sauce offered little flavor other than garlic. I love garlic but was hoping for a nice clam flavor with a garlic infused taste. -beets also tasted of little but garlic and a reduced portion of goat cheese pana cota and a very altered recipe. -cauliflower is only good when you top it with enough of the lemon crème fraiche sauce to mask the cauliflower. However the sauce was slightly drizzled with a sauce that offered no detectable lemon flavor at all. All in all it was a disappointment to say the least! Soggy crust pizza! Usually when you pick up a slice you expect to be able to eat it pointy end to fat crust end. Not here. Our three pizzas were as limp as a wet noodle. Ended up trying to eat with a fork. Asked the hostess about it because we couldn't get our waiters attention. She said " that's just how they are". Arg!! I've had much better pizza in Portland. Had such a nice dinner here with my family last night. We had the carrots, cauliflower, two salads, Trout, Carbonara and pizza and all were really good. The restaurant is small and feels cozy and intimate (but not too intimate). The menu isn't massive, but right sized and intentional which is much better in my opinion and the staff was lovely. There is a reason you can always find a table at Firehouse. Don't be shy about just walking in, if you dare eat there at all. Firehouse was a great pizza restaurant pre-pandemic. Now it's just plain middle of the road. Poor service. Slow and at times non-existent. Boring menu. They do offer "specials", but don't do the word "special" any justice. And the food they do offer is often not up to par. Correction, very often not up to par. My pizza cooked in a real wood oven was underdone on the bottom and burnt on the crust. There is a fine set to making pizza in a wood oven. The cooks at firehouse have yet to master that set. I will be taking my hard earned dollars elsewhere. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a few months... It's clean, professional, warm and romantic. My cousin and I shared a couple personally scissor-cut pies and a salad of delicious lemon-based dressing radicchio. When it appeared the 'za might take longer than expected due to how busy it was on this Friday evening, Firehouse blessed us with (recommended!) fried cauliflower. The meal was as wood-fire oven novelty as it was tasty. My hunger doubled upon entering and smelling this fine aroma. The service was prompt. Microbrew possessed Heater Allen and Pfriem. Well-balanced ingredients. Cloth napkins. Water aplenty. And foil wrap to-go. Stopped in on a Saturday evening. Our party of three was greeted and seated immediately. We ordered the arancini appetizer, it was small (3 arancini) but oh so good. Perfectly crispy on the outside with just enough sauce on the plate. Two of of shared the Margherita pizza while our teenage son ordered a burger with fries. Everything was fresh and tasted like it was made with quality ingredients. Firehouse is a great little spot in the Dekum neighborhood. The wood fire pizza is delicious. It is a very laid back cozy little place.

So I want to really start with what is good about this place. The building itself it really cool. I love the red Firehouse building. The patio area is really cute and really nice to sit and enjoy the weather in the summer time. The staff. From the cheery hostess to the waiters, everyone was just so nice. Great team and they made me like this place. The food. Ok so not all of the food was great but what was good was pretty tasty. So now the bad. The food that was tasty was really over priced and seemed to be lacking....like perhaps spaghetti to go with the meatballs? As a matter of fact, there was only one dish that included pasta and it was the Cavatelli dish. My older daughter had that as she was craving pasta and that was actually the reason why we searched for Italian and found this place. I just didn't feel like it was worth it for $17. Nor did I feel like $17 was a good price for some meatballs that didn't even come with pasta. So that is a personal financial matter of preference as maybe someone else doesn't mind. Now my last issue is very similar to another review I read. The pizza.....oh the pizza. We had the Fennel Sausage pizza and when it arrived, it was about personal sized and I'm not certain why there was a pool of liquid in the middle of it. Some of the other photos here on yelp didn't have that and I see that the ones that posted photos of their pizza seemed to brag that it was so spot on, but not ours. The outside of this creation was slightly charred, but the inside was a puddle and when we cut it, I was left holding a charred crust while the rest of the slice just lay there with the contents sliding right off. So although all of those other things were nice about the Firehouse, at the end of the night....the food just didn't cut it for me. Maybe it will for you? read more

It was our first time at the Firehouse and it won't be the last. This is our new favorite pizza place! The location is really cool, the service was very friendly and we enjoyed the food and the drinks very much. We ordered the cheese plate, the mushroom pizza, pepperoni pizza, the margherita and the pizza special coming out fresh and crispy out of the wood fired pizza oven. There are many other Italian inspired dishes to choose from. Make sure to reserve a table through their website! We'll be back for sure. read more

This is one of our favorite places, with friendly staff, creative food made from scratch and extensive outdoor seating under a tented area. (This has been well-heated with propane towers, but that may change with new regulations enacted in Portland requiring electric heating.) They have excellent wood-fired pizza and will use the same oven for other dishes, such as cauliflower that gets a creamy texture under those high temperatures. They regularly list specials and will modify their dishes for dietary needs. Everything's good, from salads to side dishes, pasta, pizza and desserts. They have good wine selections by the glass. There's plenty of safe, nearby street parking. And the location is very convenient if you're coming from Vancouver. Occasionally they'll host private parties, so call ahead to make sure that they're open to the public that night. read more

This rating would be much lower if it were based on atmosphere alone. Too many tiny tables crammed into a tight space so you can be bumped into at least a few times during your meal. No place to set things like your purse down and you feel as if staff is really close to you all the time if you're seated near the counter. About the only decent place to sit is in the back corner. But then there's the service. It goes up for the friendly, prompt, and attentive servers here. They definitely make a difference. Then of course the food is amazing, bringing us up even more. They have several signature cocktails, beers, and wine to choose from. They also have house made soda. Can't say it had much of a peach flavor, but it was still a really delicious beverage. Night and light. We were contemplating meatballs for an appetizer, and then I saw some so the decision was made. 3 large meatballs in plenty of sauce with lots of gooey cheese on top. Great way to start a meal. We opted for a couple of wood fired pizzas. They offer some unique flavor combinations. We got the butternut squash, and potato and bacon. It was hard deciding which one we liked more. My partner has never cut pizza with scissors and he found that kind of fun. Crust was soft and tasty. The pizza reheats again at home just fine too. They have a beautiful patio area that would be really nice during better weather. It's been a really long time since I've been here and I'm glad we returned. read more

I have been here enough times where a review is needed. We went there Wednesday night and we usually enjoy the food but the service can be off putting at times. Not so this night. After being under new ownership the bar counter was open,as most times before you couldn't ever sit there.The bar counter is my favorite spot to sit at, as you usually get great conversation, and a lot of times you have an eye into the kitchen, which I'm keen on. Miles was our man this night. He provided the best service we have had here. We had the our usual caesar salad, fried cauliflower, and this time a margherita pizza. We topped it off with the ricotta doughnuts, chocolate ice cream with caramel sauce.
