    Hook & Ladder (Medium)
    Amy P.

Recently opened Firehouse Subs location. I placed an order for a medium Hook & Ladder sandwich ($11.99) for pickup and it was ready right on time. The overall flavor of the sandwich was solid, though I personally felt the portions of ham and turkey were a little lighter than expected. One thing to note: it's best enjoyed soon after pickup, as the bottom bun became slightly soggy by the end of the meal. The shop is conveniently located in the same plaza as Walmart, with a large shared parking lot that makes parking easy any time of day. I'd come back to try the other sandwich options available.

Ordered a medium Italian sandwich for $11.99. Sandwich was ready when I arrived. Sub had very little meat inside which was disappointing. Parking available in shared lot.

Sadly, I did not find what I was hoping to find. The place is clean enough upon entry and I was greeted somewhat quickly (once the cashier had finished her conversation with her coworker.) I ordered a cheeseburger combo with fried zucchini instead of french fries. The Coke from the machine was a bit flat. Bummer, but not the end of the world. Upon inspecting my receipt while I was waiting for my food, I realized that I had been charged full price for a cheeseburger ($6.59), a side of fried zucchini (a whopping $8.44), and a Coke ($3.89)...all together with tax, more than $20. According to the menu, you can make any burger a combo for an extra $5, and since a small fry is just a tad over $5, it's kind of like a combo is giving you a free Coke. It's a bummer that their system doesn't allow for substitutions, as this price did seem a little bit steep for what I was getting. When the food came out and I took a bite of my burger, I realized that I was going to want more 1000 Island spread than the burger had to offer (what can I say, I'm a sauce guy!) Surprise, surprise, - that turned out to be an extra $0.65. I had some cash on me, so I just gave the cashier a dollar and got back to my food. The burger was not bad. The fried zucchini had decent texture, but the breading was a bit thick for my preference and it lact flavor. All in all, the meal was just sorta okay. Price wise, it was definitely on the high side! I don't need for for restaurant meal that I enjoy to make me feel like I'm getting some kind of bargain, but if I'm paying premium pricing, I expect an outstanding. I don't see myself coming back.

Can I just say, mmm ~ truly nothing beats a fried hand pie!! They offer apple cinnamon and strawberry cream cheese fried hand pies and since I couldn't decide, I got both. Just the right sweet treats to go with my afternoon coffee!! The apple cinnamon was perfectly crispy on the outside and generously filled with a cinnamon apple mixture. The strawberry cream cheese was also nice and crispy but didn't seem to have actual fruit, more like a jam. Both hit the spot! The drive thru was easy to access and exit from, the speaker was clear and set at a good volume, the the menu board was clear and up to date. Service wise, the worker was courteous and efficient, but not giving off any welcoming or friendly vibes. I've not had any of their entrees, but I noticed that besides chicken they also offer popcorn shrimp.

My food was good, but the young staff at the counter has the behavior of an early 2000 NPC. I walked in and politely showed her my digital receipt through my phone. She asked for my name, then check all of the existing orders and then returned with we dont have one with your name. Thats it. No looking up order number, no following up on order status. She didnt bother looking at the my digital receipt. Just repeating that we dont have your name. I dont expect a 5 stars treatment but she has a response of GTA SA NPC where she is stuck repeating 1 line. This is lack of basic customer service.

This is more of a fast-casual setup where you order at the counter, receive a number, and your food is brought out. I opted for the two taco combo ($14.75) with one chicken taco and one blackened fish taco. The portions were a good size for the combo and left me feeling satisfied without being overly heavy. There's also a self-serve salsa bar with red and green salsa, onions, limes, and cilantro so you can customize your tacos. Overall, Baja is a nice spot for a casual lunch when you're looking for something flavorful but not too greasy or oily. Located in the same plaza as Trader Joe's and Coffee Bean.

Service was quick and friendly from the moment we walked in, and the staff made sure our order came out fast without any mix ups. I got the Grilled Chicken Platter and it was absolutely delicious. Portions were generous for the price, so it felt like a great value overall. Great spot if you're in the Brea area and want something tasty without breaking the bank. I'll definitely be back to try more off the menu and recommend it to anyone in the area looking for a solid, no frills meal.
