Ugh I'm so disappointed with this place in every aspect. First off, they only offer 2 types of bread - white or wheat. I ordered the Virginia ham sandwich and the ham was ridiculously sweet, sweeter than any other ham I've ever had. The sub had very little vegetables, and a bit too much mayo. The side of mac n cheese was a terrible addition for $3.99 since it was some premade pasta and cheese smothered in boxed bread bites (that tasted like that prepackaged stuffing for Thanksgiving dishes). Oh and the container was only filled halfway. My bf had the meatball sandwich which was tasted much better than mine, despite meatball being my least favorite type of sub. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because they had good service and the donation options are meritable. Otherwise, I was very disappointed with my sub and the mac n cheese was awful. Finally got to try this place today with my coworker. We came in around 11:30 only a few customers. Saw at least 10 staff behind the counter, no one greeted us. Which right there knocks down 2 stars. I think there were managers there as well at one table doing interviews. You would think the staffs would show more customer service. So anyways it's our first time there we didn't know how their setup was. We figured it was like a sandwich where you order first as they make it then pay. Apparently it wasn't because we stood there for a minute then decide since no one is helping us we went to the register. A girl was there but was talking a phone order but not once she looked up at us. Then finally one of the girls said give her a few minutes and she will help you guys. I was a little irritated as it is but wanted to try their sandwich & see what all the hype is about. One of the guys gave us our orders and he at least was really nice and had a smile on his face like he wants to be there. So I ordered the chicken salad under 500 calorie one and it actually was really good. My co worker got the chicken club I believe and it was really good as well. 4 star for the sandwiches but overall they need to train their staff with some customer service skills. And from what it looks like on some of these yelp reviews some people actually do get greeted and treated well. That goes to show they need to greet everyone!! Quite excellent sub sandwiches. I had the specialty engineer sandwich (turkey, cheese, fully loaded with veggies) and it was very tasty. The bread was a bit heartier than I'd have preferred, so that made it a little hard to take small bites, but overall I really enjoyed this sandwich (I did, however, have to ask for some spicy brown mustard to give it some zip!). Maybe next time I'll ask if they can hallow out the bread :) My husband got the smokehouse beef and cheddar brisket...OMG, this sandwich is amazing. I don't tend to care for red meats, so I didn't want to order this, but after he took his first bite he INSISTED that I had to at least give it a taste. I would definitely be ordering this next time. To start things off, this is a RARE chain in Califorinia that is starting to explode. The chain is all over the east coast. I had Firehouse subs in North Carolina and became an immediate fan that I bought 3 bottles of the Captain Sorenson's Datil Pepper Sauce (trust me it is mild but a lot of flavor!). It is equivalent to finding a Dunkin Donuts (yes, I have been to the Modesto location) or White Castle in Cali. I was at El Dorado Hills Costco getting a few gift cards and groceries and spotted that Firehouse was one of the Children's Miracle Network sponsors. I immediately bee-lined to this location since I did not know about this store beforehand. This chain allows you to try any sauces from bbq sauces from Kentucky, to Hawaiian Bird Pepper sauces, to artisan sauces (i.e. Green Tea Wasabi), to GHOST PEPPER and the TRINIDAD SCORPION PEPPER sauces (aka the hottest peppers on the planet). They steam the subs rather than passing it through a toaster (ala Quizno's) and I was really impressed that they have a up-to-date Coca-Cola Freestyle machine here as well (imagine choosing a flavor shot so that you can have a Peach Fanta or a Vanilla Cherry Diet Coke). Another reason why I love this chain is that they frequently sponsor community and charity events (yes, I know it is also for publicity but in the end it is a win/win for everyone). Plus you get free chips and a drink if you show your Costco card. Yes Subway or Quizno's is a little cheaper, but this deal makes it even. read more

This gem is new to the neighborhood... I highly recommend you give them a try. Upon walking in, you're greeted with "Welcome to Firehouse." To me that sets the mood for what kind of experience you're going to have. It's not like subway where you follow your sandwich down the line. You simply go to the register and place your order, then they bring your sandwich to you. All their sandwiches are steamed to melt the components together. We ordered the turkey bacon ranch, it was amazing. Next I'll try the meatball. *surprise* We were surprised by a free warm chocolate chip at our table. This is great juicy sub's place. I loved the way its all decorated with the firemen theme. The food is also tasty. Their meat is super tasty. I loved their chicken salad under 500 calorie sub. My favorite place to eat! Not only is the food phenomenal, they also have an amazing staff! When I walked in I was greeted by the entire team. When I got to the register I could tell that the Cashier, Bella, was more than excited to take my order. The sandwich was delicious and I would have given 5 stars except the small sandwich should actually be a child's size. I counted that it took 4 bites and it was gone. Anywhere else a small sandwich is perfect for me. My boyfriend got the medium which is a decent size. I'm still hungry so that's a downer. The employees are kind, attentive and friendly. The cost of my tiny sandwich was almost $6. The three of us all ordered combos two smalls and one medium. We paid $26 ( my boyfriend had a coupon for a free sandwich)and gave a tip. I'll definitely be back because the food is off the hook tasty but I'll order a bigger sandwich. If you have kids order the small but if you have a normal appetite I suggest the bigger sizes. NEW EMPLOYEES UGH. I have been here 6 times and absolutely love it USUALLY. This trip however was the complete opposite. To begin with I order the same sandwich every single visit. This time the sandwich contained half the meat and was soggy and contained a stingy amount of ingredients. Then they forgot mushrooms on one of our sandwiches (which we paid extra for). When we brought it to their attention they got an attitude and said "That sandwich does not come with Mushrooms." We were forced to show our reciept with the bold letters W/MUSH. At which point they brought the mushrooms out. The previous employees were amazing. One in particular went out of his way to be helpful and made full nice sandwiches. I have settled on the sweet and spicy meatball sandwich as the best of the bunch. There are really no frills here. I don't get it. All of these chain sandwich shops and zero locally owned good delis. This place screams chain. The food is decent, not great. The subs are all served hot I guess. I didn't know that having never been to a Firehouse. I discovered after I paid, as they are nowhere near the line or the checkout stand...lame. I'll bet they don't sell many chips. My medium sized turkey and cheese sandwich with avocado (no drink, no chips) came to $10.22. Medium is about the standard size sub sandwich. Not cheap to be sure. On the plus side, the place had clean, well stocked bathrooms. The tables outside were nice. They even brought my sandwich out to me. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Question: Have you ever driven 45 minutes for the express purpose of having a sandwich? I have more then once and every time that sandwich has come from Firehouse Subs. Here's the break down. They aren't a cheep meatless bland sandwich like you might find at subway. They also aren't a tradition high quality deli either. Most of the sandwiches on the menu are at least somewhat unique. The meat isn't your tradition deli counter meats, but many of them are in house brands (not made on location.). Their brisket is nothing short of delicious. As is their Pastrami. The bread isn't anything spectacular but the meat is the star here. My wife regularly gets their turkey subs and the meat is defiantly not you standard compressed deli fair. If I were going to take off points for anything, their ham is standard sweet deli ham. It's way too sweet for my taste so that immediately eliminates any sub that includes ham from my menu options. With the Brisket and Pastrami why would I bother anyway? Would I come here if I wanted a healthy light lunch? No not at all. Would I come here for a traditional cold Sub? Probably not. There are a lot of places where I can get those things and most of them are closer to my front door. Firehouse sub is something different. Something worth spending a hour and quarter in a car for. read more
