I love Firehouse subs, though this location's employees seemed like their pets had collectively decided to die on the same day. This day also happened to be my birthday, so that was a shame. The food here is excellent, as I have come to expect of Firehouse subs. However, one thing I grew accustomed to when I went to their northern VA locations was exceptionally friendly service. When I came in here, I was not greeted at all; one worker looked up at me, then went back to his sandwich-making. Granted, this didn't exactly make a huge impact on my overall experience, though this isn't up to Firehouse standards. The person taking my order seemed equally unenthused, and while I ordered my birthday sub, he didn't put two and two together enough to wish me a happy birthday (or more likely he just didn't care to). Service and friendliness aside, Firehouse Subs is a great place to come for subs, especially on your birthday: just show your ID and you get a free sub, no purchase required! Very few restaurants still do deals of this nature, since most of them have transitioned into just giving you a "buy one, get one" coupon instead. This definitely endears me to Firehouse subs more, since it's kind of like them giving me a birthday gift! I will continue to frequent Firehouse subs for long into the future, just not this particular location. Overall: 3.0 stars ----------- Pros: - Subs are incredible and delicious, as always. - Restaurant was quite clean. - Infinite-combination soda machines are awesome, I love being able to get vanilla coke when I dine out. After having spent an exhilarating day shopping at Target, I decided to get lunch nearby. I am quite familiar with Chipotle which is right next to Target, and while I love sweetFrog, it's not really a lunch food, but what I wasn't familiar with was Firehouse Subs. I guess they're a franchise, but I didn't know that going into it. --Food: I got a Steak and Cheese with banana peppers, mushrooms, and onions. The bread was fairly soft and was reasonably filled with meat and toppings. The banana peppers really made it for me as I love a bit of spice to my subs. The rest of the sub was passable. I do like the softness of the bread, but overall it reminded me more of a Subway lunch than some of the steak and cheese shops I used to frequent in Upstate NY. Oh, and for anyone who hasn't experienced a Coca Cola Freestyle machine before, GET A FOUNTAIN DRINK HERE. It's an amazing gift from the Coke gods that features 120+ flavors of soda, ranging from Grape Sprite to Peach Fanta and plenty more. I don't know how it works and instead of looking it up on the Interwebs I'm just going to assume it's magic. --Cost: Medium sub and a medium drink came to about $9. A little bit more than I'd want to pay for what I feel I ate, but it wasn't bad. --Atmosphere: The inside is fire fighter themed with large murals and red and white patterned interior walls. Felt comfortable. --Service: Service was great! The girl at the register was nice and the lady that delivered my meal to my table was as well. --Overall: The service is great and the food is acceptable. The location is convenient for me so I'm sure I'll return at least once, but not before checking out other places first. If you're in the area and want a sub, I wouldn't tell you to avoid it, but if you're not in the area and want a sub I also wouldn't tell you to drive across the city to go either. read more

So normally when it's one person doing all the work clearly with no help, I try to be more understanding that they'll take longer with making the food. But it was three people there and only one of them was making the food. No backup from the other two at all. I ordered a club on a sub and steak & cheese with the chicken substituting the steak. Tell me how the sandwiches were not toasted, there was no bacon on the club (so basically I paid extra for a hook & ladder) and the steak (chicken) & cheese was DRY with no peppers, no onions and no mayo. If there was a shortage on ingredients, it was not communicated. If there was any reason as to why this food was not made the way I asked, I would've been accepting if it was communicated. I placed an online order to pick up and take right back to work. I was told it would be ready (per the email) @ 12:24. I proceeded to wait at the store almost 10 Minutes before my food was made. People who were ordering at the store were getting their food before me. And when I asked about it the staff in the back just gave me an attitude. If you're going to do online ordering and tell a customer the food is ready at a certain time then you should. Panera does it correctly why can't y'all? I was supposed to get a refund. I got a call from someone who I'm assuming was the manager or owner (it was a woman) and she said she would call me back to get my card information for a refund and never did. The subs are usually great but the service is way below par. I've never had stellar service here but today was just awful. I walked in, no greeting from anyone behind the counter - go to place my order and the young lady taking my order has a mouthful of food and doesn't even acknowledge me. I start my order and she's asking me questions that I can't understand because she's still chewing as she's talking. As I pay and proceed to go sit down I see her go back and shove more bacon into her mouth with her bare hands. Next customer comes in and she's still chewing - needless to say he can't understand her either. He pays and goes into the restroom and she's bad talking about the customer loud enough for everyone to hear. Really like the subs but will not return to this location. While most places are charging you more while giving you less, Firehouse remains consistent with their sizes. Subs are always fresh and very tasty. My only issue during this visit was not being acknowledged upon entering the store because one employee was working while the other chatted casually with the only other customer in the place. Even if she didn't want to be rude and cut the VERY chatty customer off, she could have at least acknowledged me with a "I'll be with you in a minute". It will not stop me from returning however because the subs are the best around. Hopefully they'll learn some basic customer service skills to try and match their quality product! read more

Want a tasty sub where you get your $ worth, Firehouse definitely has that. They have just changed their menu as of yesterday, so the old sandwich rolls have been dropped from the menu. The staff is decently friendly and completes orders accurately and in a timely manner. They have multiple televisions (only one working today) which always has on ESPN or a sporting event. There are plenty of places to sit down and eat but beware, the lunch crowd can make it where you'll need to get a to-go order instead. Firehouse also has a small amount of local community firefighter memorabilia​ on the left hand side as you walk in, however pales in comparison to a location like Halligan's. Definitely, Firehouse is a franchise with quality food and good service. read more

Firehouse Subs has one of the coolest soda machines in the Richmond area.The soda machines makes customized soda flavors.You can mix Coca Cola ,Peach Fanta,Sprite, and Orange Vault together (Insane but cool). A lot of customers just play with the soda machine creating different flavors.The atmosphere is laid back. I usually like Firehouse locations but I cannot say much for this location. I have had take out several times and each time is a big disappointment. The employees are never friendly, they mumble and never smile. They are slow, they do not seem to enjoy their work. The place is not as clean as most Firehouse locations I have been to over the years. I love firehouse subs. I have visited all of the locations near me because everywhere I am I look for a firehouse LOL. but by far, staples mill location is my favorite. The employees are very nice, they greet me as soon as I walk in, look happy to be at work, and carry themselves with smiles. The subs i order are always DELICIOUS! (my favorite is the italian!!)
