Firehouse Chili

Fill up the bowl with chili. This was way short of the advertised amount for the price.

Hook & Ladder

Ordered a Medium Hook & Ladder warm sandwich on Wheat Bread plus an Oatmeal Cookie. The bread was soft, not a huge size so I'd compare it to a Subway sandwich type style. Came with tomatoes, onions(I omitted), shredded lettuce, mayo, mustard & a pickle slice on the side. It's your typical fast food, convenient sandwich place so don't expect artisan bread like Dutch Crunch or Sourdough. They do have an optional Gluten Free bread. It was enough for me while on the run. I did smell a chemical smell & not sure if it's from the water that rinses veggies or from a countertop that was cleaned? They use paper bags & compostable containers so not sure if it transferred? Veggies tasted fine, just my nose smelled it.

The pork slaw sandwich is my favorite sandwich here. I first tried it years ago in Georgia. I to was a limited menu item. I was surprised to see it in the menu again. I love it that much. The store is clean and it wasn't busy at all that day (a Friday afternoon). The person who took my order was polite and professional. The guy who gave me my sandwich kind of just called my name and threw it on the counter so engrossed in his conversation. I'm not going to make a big deal about that. Aside from that, as long as they have this sandwich I'll be back. If it's a limited item, well...I'll see you when it returns.

It's been a while since I've had Firehouse sub. My Dad saw a commercial and wanted to try it so for lunch today, I ordered and picked up some for us. It was very easy to order online though I did have to call to be reminded how big the subs were. Dad and I shared a medium Italian sub. I ordered a medium Engineer for my husband. It was a good lunch for everyone. My husband had bought barbecue kettle chips which went well with the subs. Dad enjoyed which is success.

I had a small meatball sub combo service was great was not busy at all. This was my first time here the food was fresh and hot.

Bug in my sandwich box....

Was 1/2 way thru my sub when I noticed this little guy inside my box... to say the least I was pretty grossed out.... I loved firehouse, but not sure I'll be returning if I'm going to be finding bugs in my food...

We've driven by this place for years and finally decided to try it. We're usual subway fans but lately their subs got smaller and more expensive. I saw a tv commercial for firehouse and got intrigued to try. Anyway, I was a little skeptical because when we walked in they announced that the toaster was broken. We decided to give it a try anyway. My son ordered the hook and ladder and I ordered the Italian sub. The two employees preparing the sándwiches we're on top of things. They were fast and efficient and the subs were generous and delicious. All three ladies were working heard and getting through the line quickly. The subs were great overall. Great job everyone!

Carl (one of the men behind the counter) was the nicest, most kind cashier I've ever encountered at a sandwich shop.

This is the place for Philly Cheesesteak! Gino's deli is also good, but this is equally wonderful…read more Those are the only 2 places you should consider if you're a cheesesteak snob like me. This cannot be beat. Get the American cheddar (and extra if you love cheese). Get extra red sauce (jalapeno salsa or something). I like my cheesesteak with mushrooms and jalapeños. This is definitely big enough to share unless you have a beast for a husband. Get 2 and put 1/2 in fridge for tomorrow. It gets a tad soggy, but it's almost even better the next day. The bread here is amazing. The staff is super rad. The location and vibe is spot on. Do not miss this secret spot.

So, when co-workers wanted to go yesterday, I jumped on it. Don't get me wrong. I love the vibe of this place. I LOVE their story. It's very NY/Northeastern deli feel (they're from Pittsburgh, but you get my drift, right!?). No nonsense. Small inside area. No tables inside. Just enough room to look at the menu, order, and go wait outside. I opted for the chicken bacon ranch on hoagie. What came out was a decent size sandwich, but incredibly messy and soggy. There was so much juice/ liquid the sandwich quickly became unmanageable and just disintegrated. Look, if you're going to serve a sandwich that messy, please upgrade your napkins. It was a one bite - two napkin ratio. The sandwich was good, but the mess and difficulty eating it just took away any enjoyment. Additionally, the flies outside rivaled the worst I've experienced. Do you remember the scene in the Lost World, Jurassic Park movie when the hunters found the Rex nest!? Okay, okay, maybe not that bad, but it was a lot. Hang some fly bags or strips or somethin'. Found price to be a little high. By the time I bought chips and a drink, plus tip: $22. Just FYI: my co-worker disagrees. He thought it was the BEST SANDWICH HE'D EVER HAD. So, yes, go give them a try, but bring a beach towel for clean up.

I passed this on the way to my assignment location and began researching this spot. Some google…read morereviews mentioned they are F1 fans and Ferrari people. So I knew I had to check them out. I was able to make my way here on my last day in San Antonio in late March thanks to my flight being delayed and my oh my, I am quite impressed! The older gentleman taking my order at the counter gave me a big smile when I mentioned I heard you have this thing called the serious sandwich here. He told me that they do and then stated "You won't regret ordering it, seriously." Chuckling, I decided on a half order of that along with a side of potato salad and their side of beans. After taking my first bite, I realized the gentleman was right. This is a dope sandwich! Excellent cured meats in the salamar and pair of hams along with the provolone and melted cheddar with the veggies, spices, italian dressing, and mustard. The bread they use holds up well and has a slight crunch to it. If you prefer your bread to have softness to it, you may have to ask if they can substitute a different bread instead of the italian flat bread they use. But I absolutely love this sandwich the way it is! As for the sides, the potato salad has a slight mustard taste and right consistency with a dash of paprika on top; just the way I like it. The beans are charro beans (I think) that are served steaming hot with some pork trimmings mixed in; I may have dipped my sandwich in it a couple times for flavor explosion. What can I say, I'm adventurous! There's some ferrari memorabilia and posters on the right side where some of the high top seating is. As a Ferrari F1 fan, I appreciate them displaying this here along with the track map of the COTA circuit in Austin. The seating area is spread out nicely with plenty of seats/tables and a drink station with some random signs up. All of interest to consumers like us. Definitely recommend coming here for either the serious sandwich or other delicious ones like their meatball sandwich or manhattan. I can't wait to come back and try the other ones but I may just stick with the serious sandwich cause I loved it. SERIOUSLY!

The second time, I saw the reviews with 'skimpy meat' so ordered extra meat. They have chips, garden salad, mac salad, potato salad, etc. We were pleased. The staff was another highlight. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful, which made the entire experience even better. The fries deserve a special mention as well. The amount you get for $5 is next level and one of the best values I came across during my trip. Burgers By The Butcher has officially earned a spot on my San Antonio food list. The store itself is very cute with different sections, seating areas, food vendors to select from, and connects to actual restaurants. The mediocre review is for the "Burgers by the Butcher" place towards the end of the store. The Wagyu burger sounded really good and had good reviews, but it was really dry and not very flavorful. Usually Wagyu is known to be juicy and moist, but this tasted nothing like that caliber. It was disappointing but at least not very pricy. Fries were okay but pretty chopped up and not the style I prefer. Some of the other places looked promising like the ice cream and cafe. The poke/ceviche also sounded good on paper but when we walked by (maybe around 1.5-2 hours before closing), the quality of the raw fish didn't look too great and was a little discolored so we passed. The store itself was very cute and had lots of nice and unique products.
