We ordered four sandwiches to go she were told that they each came with a drink and chips. The two of us couldn't carry everything so some drinks were left behind. We were informed of the popular offerings, gave our orders and all the sandwiches were ready in the blink of an eye. I had the rotisserie chicken sandwich. It was arguably one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. It was simple and that made it all the better. Perfectly seasoned and cooked chicken, crisp and fresh veggies, and lots of pickles. I just finished my philly cheese steak sandwich, and it was not just huge, but damn delicious. The meat was tender and juicy, i had jalapenos, grilled onions and pell peppers on it, all the way it comes. My wife had the smoke stack, which was very tasty as well, both sandwiches had plenty of meats, veggies and cheese on them. The staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable. To be honest, i love that atmosphere of an old school american deli, there are not many places like this anymore. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak and my son ordered the smoke stack. He enjoyed his sandwich , he said bacon and turkey were good. The Philly cheesesteak was horrible. There was minimal meat, the bread was nice and soft but it looked tig for the amount of meat. The meat itself was not that tasty. I would honestly rather eat a cheesesteak from Jersey Mikes. It really pains me to write this because the two ladies who took my order/cashier were terribly nice, but the food was simply not good. I ordered the Italian sandwich and a kids ham and cheese. The Italian sandwich had very little meat, lots of lettuce--the bread tasted fine, but the meat is very very low quality (Jennie-O's)...spongy, wet, filler 'meat' products. I didn't see what kind of cheese they used, but the kids ham and cheese used an extremely low quality 'American style cheese product' maybe a knock off Velveeta, so nasty. The kids ham and cheese had exactly ONE slice of really wet ham, one square slice of that 'cheese product' and I asked for the veggies bc my daughter loves veggies, and it was all served on the thickest white bread hamburger bun. I asked to sample the tuna salad, and it took was not good--it was dry, and yellow, definitely yellow mustard based which I found edible, but not worthy of 'deli style'. I stopped by based on the glowing reviews, but I'm afraid those don't reflect the current food being sold. Not sure if it's new management/owner, but they're definitely trying to save on food costs by serving the cheapest quality meats and smallest quantity. read more

But bakers have egos and sometimes they bake bread with the purpose of making it into the star of the show and not a supporting role. And don't get me wrong, sometimes the bread really is that tasty, but that usually comes with a subpar feeling afterward as you enter into a carb coma. At Gino's, there is no carb coma. The bread is incredibly light. And it almost seems to self-dissolve as you make your way through it. The fillings of these sandwiches (Smokehouse Stack + Italian) were enjoyable, but not absolutely unreal, as the national Yelp ranking might have us believe. With that being said, the people here could not have been friendlier, and we only tried two of the sandwiches, so I'm sure if we lived in the area, we would be regulars and quite happy with the frequency of our visits. read more

I was greeted walking in the door with high energy, educated on the menu options, provided with suggestions for my first time, and given a free drink and chips (first time buyer thing I guess). Before coming to Texas from Washington my wife had read about Gino's and knew that it was rated the 51st best restaurant in the US. That is all we needed to make a side trip out to see what this place was all about. When you drive up you are in the parking lot of what looks to be a convenience store. Once inside it kind of feels like it is...but once you start to order you know this place is special. My wife ordered the the Philly cheesesteak and I was going to order the Italian. However, the person taking our order was very hospitable and asked our names and welcomed us in. When he heard my name was Rod he started talking about a burger they have called the Hot Rod and said it would be a better choice. I went with it and ordered the Hot Rod and then took the ticket and went to pay. This is where we really got the feel for why this place is rated so high. The gentleman who took our order knew it was our first time in and told us we will not pay until we eat the food. If we did not like it we would not have to pay. He also told us that since it was our first time in we could have a beverage and bag of chips for free and he gave me one of the restaurant's stickers. The Philly was fantastic and my Hot Rod burger was beyond what I expected! When we did pay there was no tip line on the receipt so my wife got cash out to tip. The gentleman who had helped us all along yelled to the cooks and made sure they knew the tips were going to them. Turns out the person taking our order, Aleem. is the owner of the business and works right along with his staff to make sure everything is top notch for the customers. They're flavorful with a clear focus on top ingredients and well cooked. My only knock would be if you get a Philly just get double meat and cheese, the sandwich slaps either way, but the double fillings give it's that much better of a go!
