Best sub shop in town, one of the best food places in general, especially given how much cheaper it is than my other favs. ​Never had a rude server or wrong order. Even if I don't like everything on the menu I can always count on the Turkey Bacon Ranch (my personal fav, highly recommend ) to be absolutely delicious! They pick a theme and stick to it. Not only did when I walk in one of the workers drip toilet water from a plunger from the bathroom to back of counter and not wipe it up and as I came back drips were still all over floor. I had tried to just order a sub just ham, cheese and pickles. I was interrupted in my order several times and my order was very incorrect. As I'm allergic to some of the things that were put in my sandwich I had to come in and have it remade. We decided to stop in here to get a sandwich before starting our trip home to CT as we had never been and wanted to try. Kuddos that this chain was started by firefighters (2 brothers) and some proceeds are donated to first responders. This location was decorated with lots of photos and plaques in support of the local and surrounding area Maine fire departments. Cool. However, that really seems to be the only difference between this chain and the other sub sandwich chains, although here you do not watch your sandwich being made in front of you. There are 2 choices of bread types, wheat or white and you choose toppings and sub size. And you get a pickle. The menu is not much different from similar places and I found their prices to be on the higher end. Meatball sub tasted just like Subway's. I asked for my tuna sub to be heated and was told that they could toast the bread but we're not allowed to heat the tuna. The place and restrooms were clean, service adequate, but nothing that would make me want to return. read more

This is the third branch of the Firehouse Subs we have been to, and the experience has been consistently excellent at each of them. I ordered my usual hot meatball sub on a wheat bun. It was excellent, but I suppose someday I really need to try a different sandwich on the menu. I opted for the pickle on the side because I like half-sour pickles. My wife went for the Pepperoni meatball sub and also liked it. We each got a bag of chips and I got a cookie that was okay. She said her brownie was excellent. I went to this store on August 28th, my order clearly said no pickle spear. When I checked my sandwich a pickle spear. They remade my sandwich (fortunately I checked before I left). I returned on August 29th, same order, I quickly checked before leaving and no pickle spear. Thought they got it right. A few hours at work about 30 miles away I go to eat my sub, my order clearly said roast beef, gluten free bun, and cheese and no pickle spear. There were peppers and onions on my sandwich. Two days in a row and they screw up my order both times. I have given up on firehouse subs, wasting my money for wrong orders. How hard is it to read an order and get it right? read more

The day before Halloween, with half of Maine storm-slammed and out of power, these guys opened up to make sure we had something to eat, and they did it cheerfully with a two-person crew (at least until "Mason" showed up to help...hey, Mason :) ) And they kept apologizing for the "delay" in getting our food out, believe it or not! Delay? Fella, I can't even pull a drink of water at my house right now because of fallen oak trees; trust me, I'm not complaining. :) Love this store, love these franchisees. I demolished the Chicken Bacon Ranch in record time and was pretty surprised at how much they packed in between the buns (there was no way for me to make that sound right btw). To sum it up, it's like Subway but considerably better. And a bit more expensive. It's a good place that you can carry a conversation without yelling over the back ground noise. They messed up one of my sandwiches, but not bad enough that I would and did still eat it. But they also gave me the exact sandwich for no charge to eat later on. I did not expect this, and I did not cause a scene....so to me, that shows they are serious about customer service. I have to grab on the go a lot. Firehouse Subs is among the best! They're consistent, high quality, and friendly. Reminds me of the old neighborhood subs shops we had as kids. (Ya, I'm old!) Best of all, Firehouse is serious about their commitment to our First Responders. They put their money where our mouths were and give a lot to community emergency services. Instead of a little change jangling in your pockets, they also make it easy for you to "round up" to the nearest dollar and they'll contribute that as well. The ONLY gripe I've heard from some people is they're a little slow. Don't worry about it. When it comes to subs if it's too fast, it's rubbery microwaved garbage. Firehouse takes their time, they tell you it's going to take a couple of minutes, and they bring it to your table when they're done. It's worth the wait! read more

I have always loved Firehouse Subs. I've been to locations in TN, GA, NC, FL and now ME. This location in Topsham is lacking though. Their presentation is poor and while I almost always get the exact same sandwich it somehow is always made differently. Another thing which drives me crazy is every time I go to this store they are out of the majority of their sauces. They have 2 or 3 duplicates to fill in the spaces. I asked him for 4 different types since the bottles were empty on the shelf and he went in the back to look and told me they were out of all of them. This is my first visit to Firehouse subs, it is now one of my favorite sub shops. They offer a number of hot sandwiches, different types, from meatball, steak & cheese, to turkey or ham and several others. They also offer tuna or chicken salad subs. They have a variety of sizes, medium to large on the hot and cold subs and I choose the steak & cheese with onions and green peppers, it was delicious! One of those with me had a meatball sub and the other individual had the corn beef brisket. Both commented on how much they enjoyed their meal. Firehouse also offers low-calorie subs and salads. The staff is very friendly and are very attentive to their customer's needs. This particular Firehouse has ample comfortable seating. A very pleasant and tasty dining experience. Unfortunately, I ate my sub before I had a chance to take any pictures, you'll just have to take my word that my sub not only tasted good, it looked as well. read more

Something about this place just doesn't add up. How can you make something as delicious as a toasted deli sandwich with all the right ingredients taste so gross? My guess is the deluge of various condiments they pour onto every soggy tubule. Listen, I don't hate mustard, mayonnaise OR thousand-islands dressing. I like them all well enough. But YO, vast oceans of all 3 on 1 sandwich? Take it easy. Anyway, easy enough to solve that problem by just asking them to cool it on the condiments. Limit it to 1, and you're good. Another problem I have with this place is its seating. I get the "concept" you're going for, but it feels like a high school cafeteria, and nobody on earth can actually like that. The last thing, I'm guessing, is specific to Topsham. I like these guys--they're earnest, and they seem to do their best. But they can NOT get an order right to save their lives. I've been there probably 7 or 8 times since they opened, and they've gotten it right on the first time MAYBE 3 times. I have been to Firehouse Subs a couple times. For the most part it is a great place to get tasty sandwiches. I think they can afford to be a little less "fast food" oriented though. Most recently I got a steak sandwich which I expected to be cooked to order. The steak was dry and most certainly reheated. I've had shaved steak sandwiches made to order that were juicier and more tender than this was, and it was not shaved steak. The sandwiches are very tasty, but I would have gladly waited a couple extra minutes to have mine cooked to order so as to avoid the dry chewyness of reheated steak. read more

I'm shocked to see the overall low rating for this place. Yes, it's a sandwich chain but the quality is always impressive. I love the selections of hot sauces. I've tried a few different sandwiches here and all are pretty decent. The steamer is the best I've tried so far. The concept gets a B+ from me; I like the layout of the store, the sandwiches are popular and delicious sounding combinations, and the soda machine is definitely cool - a Coca-Cola freestyle machine where you can pick your soda and add a variety of flavors. However, execution and price don't make the same grade. I paid $10 for an 8" sub, chips and a very large soda, which is alright for a 'premium' sandwich place - but the sandwich was just pork, the Thai sweet chili sauce and mayo. The mayo was a strange addition to the Thai chili sauce, and this sandwich would have benefited from an Asian slaw or some similar vegetable component. Overall, not impressed - may go back, but won't get this sandwich with mayo, and it was a little expensive. read more

Bread was fresh, meats, dressings and cheeses were flavorful and in an acceptable proportion. I was the only one in line, but the friendly and pro staff put it together nice and hot in a sort of steam contraction box? (no subway micro) in 3 min. Nice execution. Out the door at $9.61 for a sandwich w/ no fries or drink is little tough. I can understand the others POV who kinda dogged this place. Its not a value QSR , but that said it was a damn good sandwich. Move the price points around (read: down) I'd come back often. Place was very clean so a half point for that. read more

Friendly staff, cool layout. I ordered the smoked brisket and cheese sub, and I was not disappointed. Good smoke flavor which went well with the BBQ sauce.
