My boyfriend took me here about 2 weeks ago. We got the greek salad and it was amazing. I am half Greek and he thought I would like the place. Today he ordered one for pickup. What he brought home was a small plastic container of lettuce with not much else. Not much onions, feta, ONE olive in the whole thing. Also two tiny containers of the dressing that after this experience makes me wonder do they even use olive oil or is this just some cheap unhealthy oil. It was so bad. I called the restaurant and a woman answered. I tried to start off positive telling her we had really enjoyed the Greek salad a couple of weeks ago but this was only lettuce and not good. There was never an "Im so sorry", nothing, but "come in and get another one". I said it will have to be tomorrow and again... no apology, no kindness, and NO WAY to run a restaurant. I dont even want the salad replacement because I don't even trust their ingredients after serving something like this. I love to support mom and pop businesses and am very sad that I can not support anyone who takes 15.00 for lettuce, and some of it rotten at that. read more

Been coming here for years & the food is always good, gyros, salads & the lamb shank is awesome. The dolmas are frankly strange...... unusually spiced & couldn't make sense of them. For take out this would be higher rated, but our group of six eat inside & the service was just lacking. If I didn't know better, they're trying to run the place with one too few employess, so everything takes longer than it should. On a warm day a/c was inadequate. Despite how busy our waitress was, she was nice and tended to us and everyone else timely. The dining room is decorated with beautiful Grecian murals. I ordered the Mediterranean meal. The salad comes out first. You can't beat that dressing. The Mediterranean plate offers a variety: Dolma, hummus, and gyro. You get to choose between rice and fries. This place serves the best pita I've ever had. I would come back for that pita alone. They are very generous with their servings. There are plenty of parking spots in the back of the restaurant. Ordered the Gyro Combo through UberEats, got the food on time and everything was great except they forgot my Diet Coke :( The portion is amazing and I will definitely order again as long as the price and portions stay the same, this will be my go to for gyros! Located at the intersection of Victory and Reseda this Greek inspired restaurant really hits the spot when you're in the mood for a good Mediterranean dish. Be sure to bring your appetite as the portions are quite large and definitely made to order. I'm a sucker for a good gyro and Firehouse Taverna really does it right. I usually opt for a poultry option and the chicken here tasted fresh and well seasoned. Not sure what they added to the fries, but these things were addicting. The pita bread is so delicious. Tastes like it's made fresh and has a perfect balance of softness and chew. Hard to describe you just have to try it for yourself. This restaurant was a regular place that I frequented when I lived in the Valley. It's been several years since I've moved away, but the food was as delicious and then as it is now. The lamb souvlaki salad was always my go-to. Perfect dressing on the salad and fluffy pita and feta cheese that was soft and just the right amount of saltiness. The lamb is tender and charred nicely. Years ago, they used a sweet onion but now they use purple onion. Not a big deal but it's great to see that the quality is still there. Just wanted to update my previous review, this place still ranks a solid five stars. The food is absolutely excellent and the portions are very large. Sure, the prices have gone up here considerably, but they have everywhere! I still think $45 for the enormous combination for two is reasonable, considering it would actually feed four! We love Firehouse Taverna it's our go to Greek spot not far from our home and in our rotation for eating at regularly. It never takes longer than 20 to 25 mins to have food ready for pickup as well which is huge plus and the staff is always friendly when we go in. I'm a huge fan of their chicken souvlaki sandwich or plate. Their rice is always delicious as is their fries and the tzatziki and pita is always delicious as well. This place has been around at least since the mid 90s , not sure how many times ownership has changed hands in that span of time, but nonetheless, I was excited to take my 2 kids there so they can see the places daddy used to hang out at in his high school days. I'm sad to report that this visit was not good at all. My worst pet peeve at a restaurant is when the food doesn't come out all at once. At the time of our order, there was 2 tables inside the restaurant(one already eating and one was our table). My kids ordered the burger/fries and my wife and I ordered gyros & souvlaki. I got my order first, 5 minutes later my wife got her order, 7 minutes after that we got the first burger and then 15 minutes after that we got the last burger order. I inquired with the waitress who took our order and she said she messed up initially and told the chef one burger then after bringing my daughter her food remembered that my son had also ordered a burger so she told the chef to start his order after we all had received our food. We go out to eat pretty often and have noticed a trend since Covid in instances like this. I would say oh maybe this small business doesn't make enough to adequately staff or train employees but like I mentioned previously they've been around 30+ years. Getting food at different intervals takes away from the going out to eat experience and dampens the mood to the point where you can't truly enjoy your meal. Lastly, what is up with "cash price" vs "card price" on menus? The menu here was a leather bound book which is classy and nice then you open it and you see price columns like an excel spreadsheet. Very "not classy". If you want to charge more, charge more to cover your CC fees but why do cash price vs card? Are you a mechanic? read more

It's not good to pay an obscene $13 for a basic Greek salad that contains a paltry four pit-possessing Kalamata olives, two modest clumps of feta, and no Greek dressing inside, or packed in the carry-out bag. Accompanying the salad was a gyros sandwich, a few complimentary wedges of okay pita, and a generous plastic cup of ketchup. So, which of those two orders does ketchup supposedly complement? I hadn't frequented Firehouse since the original review. Perhaps the staff has been jolted off its game by the cursed pandemic. Of course, no indoor dining, and now a row of picnic tables/benches runs along a fence in the adjacent parking lot. Coincidentally, homemade Greek salad has become a favorite during "these challenging times," and my dressing follows a recipe found many months ago online. About 10 pitted Kalamatas from a big jar in the fridge joined the Firehouse salad, along with sliced bell pepper (once a Firehouse ingredient) and more feta, red onion and tomato, vaulting the entree into more-betterness. Firehouse's gyros sandwich teemed with the beef-lamb blend, not especially mouth-watering, and seemingly not freshly shaved from the requisite vertical rotisserie, because some of the pieces were chunky-lumpy, and not well-heated. Hunger being of the essence, it was sampled in the car. At $11, it was more satisfying than the original salad would have been, and was big enough to split. No plans to return. We ordered the feta fries, fried calamari, moussaka, Greek salad, fries, and chicken kabobs for pickup. The fries were all very mushy and the feta tasted off. The seasoning would have been redeeming but to be honest everything tasted old/ frozen. The fried calamari was limp and chewy, same seasoning as the fries, tasted old/ frozen. We each had a bite and couldn't continue. The Greek salad was delicious, but one person in our party got sick from it. We suspect it was the feta. Moussaka was a pasty glob. The seasoning was intriguing, like it had the right spices in it, but the texture was off and we couldn't eat it. Again, tasted old/ frozen/ reheated. The chicken kabobs were ok. I hope this review helps you improve your food... for the price, we didn't think it was worth it. read more
