The service at Firepan Korean BBQ was exceptional! The waiter was so attentive...asking us what our next requested meat would be before our plates were emptied. We never had to look for him,and he was constantly changing the pan, so it was always clean for our next round. We started with thin sliced brisket and pork, and although they were definitely tasty, I think I'll skip them next time and go straight to the bulgogi. The chicken thigh was tastier than expected, and nothing labelled "spicy" was TOO spicy! Just the right amount of heat. The BBQ was served with the traditional Korean sides...kimchi, pickled radish (my favorite), sweet potato noodles, and another I don't really remember...and three condiments...one suggested for marinated meats, one for non-marinated meats...and one that was really salty! They added another kitchen tool to my list of favorites...scissors! It was SO much easier than cutting things to bite size with a knife! Made it more fun, and faster! I'll definitely try them again...and bring my brother who will test their speed of delivery...he can eat a LOT of Korean food...fast! read more

I am very pleased that my wife and I decided to go to Firepan Korean BBQ. I have had Korean BBQ in the past and have disliked it due to the lack of flavor and the need for heavy sauce. This place is not like that at all. The meat was flavorful and a good cut. The spicy firepan steak is 10/10, K-ramen 10/10, spicy begulgi (beef) 10/10. The atmosphere is a cool vibe that is perfect for either a family or date night. It is dimly lot to provide that romantic feel but also entranced with a unique design and color scheme to make it family friendly. You are able to have conversations and hear one another. The service was excellent and the staff work together to make sure you have a pleasurable experience. When we first got there we had to wait on our table but the hostess directed us to the bar to wait and the bartender was friendly and engaging. We did the all-you-can-eat option, which has a bunch of rules (which make sense) that are unique to any place I've ever been. The service was excellent, albeit with very few patrons. The ambiance was good as well. The spicy and soy pork belly were very good. The spicy bulgogi was more flavorful than other bulgogis I've had in the past. I tried to stop in for a late dinner on a Wednesday night at 10p. The door clearly says they close at 11p and the Open signs were on, and yet the door was locked. We waited a few minutes for other patrons to leave so we could enter, thinking maybe there was an issue with the door. Walked up to the bar and was told they stop seating at 10pm. That's a whole hour before what's posted on the door and online. My friends and I are huge fans of the Falls Church location. After a night out, we were so happy to stop by for Firepan's soft opening. As you enter you get this club feel with lights on the walls. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and it was fairly empty. The crowd started pouring in right when one of the World Cup matches went live. You have 2 options for what AYCE meats and seafood you like. Big difference is option B at $5 more includes ribeye steak, olive beef steak, beef belly rib, shrimp and calamari. We chose B, but afterwards felt like A was enough. We really enjoyed our experience here. Considering its a soft opening our serve Abby was amazing. Our sauces and banchan were constantly being refilled. The kitchen was fully stocked with all of the meats and their bar was open as well. Our favorite cuts of meat include the brisket, thin sliced pork belly, olive pork chop and the olive beef steak. Something that really stands out compared to other places are the egg and stews are included with your meal. Highly recommend Firepan if you're craving some quality AYCE and don't want to make your way to Ellicott City or NOVA. read more

I went to Pivot PT much of this past year and knew they were close to opening but as it is not uncommon, their opening was quite delayed. Their original location is inside Eden Center in Falls Church and this is Firepan 2 but Firepan 3 in Woodbridge happened to open first. We have not been to the other locations but we have friends and coworkers who live near them we will recommend them to. I saw last week they finally had their soft opening and upon looking at social media learned it was one that was fully open to the public so my wife, my father, and I came here last night. We got All You Can Eat Option A which was 5 dollars off (they also have Option B with a couple more options for $4 off as well as Al La Carte items). We had a variety of beef including brisket, steak, bulgogi beef, and spicy bulgogi beef, as well as chicken thigh, spicy chicken thigh, and steamed egg. Everything they cooked on the tabletop grill except the egg which came in the side and was delicious. My dad said that the egg would be great for breakfast. We also each had rice that reminded us of sushi rice and there was salad, kimchi, and pickled radishes to share as well as a trio of sauces for each of us. All of the meat was wonderful and the spicy items were flavorful but not too spicy for my father. It was my father's first time having all you can eat Korean Barbecue and he loved it and me and my wife's second time together (the first being Kogiya in Annandale). We also each had Green Grape Shochu after learning they were out of Peach and some other flavors although I suggested we share it and get a new one each time when finishing has they are drunk out of shot glasses. Our waitress did a good job and the dark atmosphere with blue lights is nice too and we walked in to here with the TV showing it snowing in Korea. They also have dedicated spaces for wheelchairs which is a plus. We look forward to coming back and this would be a good place to take my father in law. read more

Went on a weeknight for our anniversary dinner and chose the "A" option, which had enough on it for a first visit. We arrived around 6pm, and barely anyone there on a Weds night, but when we left there were many occupied tables so I guess we were just early. It's a bit of upscale vibe, very modern and clean though I didn't use the restroom so can't comment on that. Nice for date night. I was driving, so didn't get a cocktail but my husband got the lychee mai tai, I had a sip, it was delicious. I would absolutely order that if I weren't driving. Of the meats, we sampled: Spicy Bulgogi Spicy Chicken Thigh Soy Pork Bulgogi Bulgogi Firepan Steak Our favorites were the firepan steak and the spicy bulgogi, but I will warn you that it is actually spicy and not Maryland spicy. In retrospect we should have ordered the spicy dishes later and not first, so that we would still have taste buds left for the other stuff. I was surprised that the Spicy Chicken Thigh was brought out to cook at the table; every other KBBQ I've been to makes an exception to cook the chicken in the back, presumably to make sure dumb Americans don't undercook it and poison themselves. It was a thick thigh , and the scissors were brought out a bit late, so I had been getting a bit nervous on how it possibly was going to cook through before it burned, but it worked out fine. It wasn't really that spicy compared to the spicy bulgogi, and honestly I've had better implementations. The firepan steak and regular bulgogi seemed to have a very similar marinade, but they are cut differently. It appears to be a round steak, I don't know what cut they use for the bulgogi, but it's shredded super thin and harder to manipulate on the grill. The soy pork bulgogi was actually quite good too. I was very sad that there is no galbi or LA Galbi option, on the "C" menu there is a "beef belly rib", but I'm not sure if that's actually like galbi or more like the beef version of pork belly which is too fatty for me. Since I wasn't sure, and didn't feel like spending an extra 18 bucks or so to find out, I'll just ask another time. We also got steam egg. I probably ate too much of this, given how cheap it is compared to meat, but I do love me some steam egg. It's like someone was going to make egg drop soup and said f-it, we can just make it all egg with a little tiny bit of broth in it. The japchae banchan was my favorite, the sliced radish and kimchi were fine, didn't really care for the onion one. I missed having bean sprouts, fish cake and other favorite banchan. Our server was great, she brought us very reasonable portions for each meat so we could try a bunch of things. One of the things I didn't care for at the place in Wheaton was they brought so much of the first couple meats we ordered we didn't have room for anything else. This was much better for sampling purposes. All in all, it's pretty good, and the price is reasonable for what you get, but definitely doesn't hold a candle meat quality wise to some of the places in Annandale. Our meal (2 level A, one soda, one 50% off cocktail at happy hour) came out to about 70 + tax & tip. read more

I was pretty excited to try out this location, as I love the Eden center location. The interior was mainly lit by blue lights, which were nice, but a bit overwhelming to me. Very clean and aesthetically pleasing table and lighting overall though. The servers were very nice, and tended to us well. Some orders of meat were incorrectly given to us, but we still ate them. The quality of the meat ranged from pretty lean (brisket) to very fatty (pork belly), and I was slightly disappointed by the portion sizes, especially when we specifically request for 2-3 orders of a meat. I'm not sure if my rating would be any different if this location wasn't in their soft opening phase. I hope to come back in a few months or so to see if things change. TLDR: Newly opened branch of Fireman that seems to be having some opening pains, but with a lot of potential! ========== I was craving KBBQ this particular day, and happened to be in the Bethesda Area. As a resident of NoVA, I am very familiar with firepan's falls church location, and know it as a great place for cheap AYCE that will satisfy your cravings. Therefore, I was very excited to find that Firepan was in the area and pushing for our party to go there. At 5:30 PM on a Wednesday, this site was not as busy as I would have expected. There were 3-4 other parties in the entire restaurant, which can definitely handle a lot more. The atmosphere of this branch was also particularly interesting, with booths bathed in a neon blue-ish hue. Regardless, I was excited for the firepan steak, which is their signature marinated steak that always comes chewy and delicious. Another plus for firepan relative to other AYCEs is their service. On this particular trip, I was however somewhat disappointed with the experience. The table that we were sat at happened to have a bad grill, whose fire went off every 10-15 minutes on its own, leaving some of the meat sitting on the grill uncooked until we could get the attention of the server to relight the grill. Given how empty the space was, I thought it would have been in everyone's best interest for them to reseat us at another table with a working grill rather than struggle to relight the grill 8 times over the course of the hour we were there. Regardless, it was an admirable effort by the server to work with the finicky grill, and not something that I would knock them down for. The reason this was a 4 star as opposed to 5 star experience for me was more about the meat. As a cheaper AYCE, I can expect that the meat will likely be frozen and not freshly cut. However, for some reason this day, the meat that we were given this day was particularly dry, to the point that it was clearly a lower quality meat and interfered with the taste/experience a bit. I expect that some of this is due to the soft opening, and something that will be fixed as the branch ramps up in operations, but unfortunately for this day the experience was certainly not what I consider standard for firepan. I will likely be giving them at least one more chance, if not more (simply because the firepan name is held in such high-regard for me based on their other branch), but until then, I will have to leave this at a 4 star experience for me. read more

This was our first experience with Korean BBQ, and we were a bit confused and disappointed. We did AYCE. The bulgogi was alright, but the fire pan steak was pretty bland. The chicken was nicely crisped on the outside and tender on the inside, and it was fun to get to cook the meat ourselves. Experiences at the Silver Spring Firepan KBBQ are completely dependent upon who's serving. I've been visiting this location for at least a year and a half now. Initially, I visited regularly. There was a young Asian woman who seemed like maybe she's the M.O.D and a tall male of African descent who was typically working the bar but who also serves tables. They consistently provided friendly, attentive service that made my party want to return weekly. However, over time, as more young'ns have been hired, service has suffered. In my experience, the girls that serve are consistenly inconsistent. They're m.i.a., off on the side fraternizing among each other, lolligagging, and need to be reminded of items that were ordered but not received at the table. They, oddly, on the occasions when they are "around", want to cook the meal. Which is not helpful in the least, especially given the fact that they're typically no where to be found when needed; plus, if I wanted someone other than myself to prepare my meal, I'd go to a restaurant with cooks and/or a chef, not a KBBQ spot where part of the lure is flaming your own food. Needless to say, I don't visit the SS Firepan much anymore because I don't want to chance dealing with mediocre, sub-par service. That said, in all reality, as much as I wish this location had better servers, I'm saving money by not taking the gamble of going to eat here as often as I know I would if the service was better. I always get the option A since my experience with their sushi, once when I sat at the bar, was abysmal and off-putting. I recommend foregoing the K-ramen. It's nothing more than packaged instant noodles. The K fried chicken isn't impressive in my opinion either. CONSISTENTLY: The fries are good. And the meats, salad, and vegetables (jalapeño peppers, onions, garlic, squash/zucchini) are always fresh. Also, the rice is always hot and cooked properly. I was so happy to get a KBBQ place in DTSS! The vibe was very chill-- sleek tables and cute low lights. The food was pretty solid. I was very happy they had spicy pork belly since a few places have scrapped it from the menu. The servers were super friendly however, definitely need to be trained on food safety and cross contamination. We got a bulgogi roll that was placed next to the grill. Our server brought over bulgogi and had it tilted right above our plate of rolls without moving it first. The juices from the raw meat got on our cooked rolls--I tried to move the plate out the way quickly but was too late. Needless to say, we did not finish the rolls. I never left a food review before, but I just felt compelled to say my 2 cents about my Firepan experience because man... This was my first time eating at a korean bbq place that made me finish my food to prevent paying the $5 waste fee, and not because I enjoyed it. The ambiance was more relaxed compared to k bbq spots, which was nice for a conversational setting, but the food was, respectfully, not up to par to the hype. My boyfriend and I got the " option C" dinner menu, $36.99 per person, and we didn't find anything we liked in our food. The brisket was cut too thick and too lean, the sushi were oily and deformed, and steaks were cut too thin that it would overcook before getting a decent sear. Their K-ramen was advertised on their menu like they made something unique and interesting imo, but tbh it looked and tasted like it came straight out from a Shin instant ramen pack. Additionally, the sauces were also very mid. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone not unless they make changes to the quality of their food. TLDR: Don't go here. I recommend K-pot. read more

K-comfort! I've been a fan of Korean food since before it was cool, so I had to try this new spot. Centrally located just a half block off Georgia Avenue, across the street from a county garage, in the street level of a mixed use building. Small bar up front, dark wood, and cushioned booths reminded me of an old-school steakhouse. There are no hoods on the grills, but maybe a downdraft system, since we didn't come out smelling of KBBQ. Obligatory TVs with K-pop at a level that allowed conversion. We went for the basic Option A. The emphasis here is on marinated meat, and we particularly liked the spicy bulgogi, spicy chicken thighs, spicy pork belly, and Firepan steak. The bahn chan were also very nice, especially the pickled radish. Kimchi was right at the perfect crisp/tender marination, with just a tickle of heat. Our server, Anthony, was great at keeping a comfortable pace, cooking and cutting the meats, and changing the grill as needed. Nothing labeled "spicy" had more than a tickle of heat.
