Disclaimer: When you're in this particular rural part of Pennsylvania, you should rate restaurants against other local restaurants. If you don't... you'll never find a place to eat. This isn't the culinary capitol of Pennsylvania and food is pretty standard. But, I've found that is true of rural America, period. Again, if this were located anywhere else I wouldn't give it 4-stars. But you have to weigh your options. If you're driving up Route 6. This is one of your better decisions. It's pretty typical to the area, as far as what they offer on the menu, they have a lot to choose from. You have your steaks, pastas, salads, burgers, and deep fried everything. This was my second or third time eating here in the past few years. (I had the worst date of my entire life here, but that's a completely other story and didn't play a factor into this review.) I ordered the Stuffed Haddock with a side of broccoli and baked potato. Again, wasn't the best fish of my entire life, but it's a lot better than most I've had in this particular part of Pennsylvania! I do like the atmosphere here. It makes you forget you're sitting alongside busy Route 6 and really transports you into some kind of 'older-world' rustic oasis. It's dark and has a lot of cool wood accents and cabin-ish decor. It's clean! Sadly, another positive for the area. They also serve alcohol and have a well stocked bar. If you're hungry and headed West on Route 6... stop here. There isn't much up the road for you to choose from. You'll find decent food, great service, and a cool country atmosphere. read more

This is an average, family owned, comfort food restaurant. It's dimly lit with good food and good waitresses and waiters. My beautiful wife and I have been there a couple of times and the food was delicious. read more

Tried this restaurant again today and once again I was disappointed. Filet mignon had no flavor. Meat is not fresh. $25 plus $5 for tips. Not worth it. This will be my last time here . I would rate it two stars: 1 for the ambience and 1 for service. Food?? Zero star read more

The staff is very good and ready to help you with whatever you need. The setting is a little old fashion but warm and comfortable. The menu is large and has something for everyone. Very likely to be busy in the evening and definitely on Friday and Saturday. read more

The Fireplace is a dive. I always leave here feeling kind of dirty and gross, but it's the only restaurant close to work, so I come here when I have to. The only things I will eat on the menu are their french onion soup and grilled chicken salad. I would not recommend their Mexican food or really anything outside of the box here...Get the usual stuff and you should be ok. Service is slow, so I would not recommend for lunch if you need to get in and out quickly. You can call ahead and place your order if you're in a rush. read more

Horrible. The food was barely warm and over dried. The portions were tiny. We had the chicken parm and shrimp parm with the stuffed shells. I've eaten here a few times over the years and usually have an ok experience paired with ok food. This past visit was a disappointment to say the least. After taking up some seats in the bar area, my coworker and I were greeted with a not so welcoming attitude and given menus. We were then told our server would be with us in a couple minutes. After waiting for more than 10 minutes for our server to even wait on us we decided to leave. I doubt I will ever go there again. read more

The potato skins were good, salad was pretty bland but average. Fried shrimp and sword fish were about a 7/10 but we literally could not eat our steaks. We have always loved the fireplace. We even travel an hour to get there. This was the first restaurant we have been to since March 13 th. While the food was great as usual, we were very disappointed that they were NOT practicing Socal distancing . This is a state mandate. We went at 5:00 because most of the time it not busy. But by the time we left every booth and table was full. So if anyone is looking for a place to eat and is taking this virus seriously, you might want to pick another restaurant. read more

I decided to give this place another try after the last time when I ordered a medium rare NY strip and it came out medium well and over half of the steak was gristle. This time we ordered two burgers (one with fries and one with cole slaw, which we assumed were included - our fault) and a "sampler PLATTER". What we got was one frozen patty topped with cold mushrooms and a side of fries, another patty with a side of fries (I ordered cole slaw) and some shirt lint, and the sampler platter which included 2 mozzarella sticks, 2 egg rolls, and maybe 5 fried cauliflower. The platter was $6.95, the burgers $5.50, and the side of fries were $3.25 each! I didn't even order fries and the waitress should have indicated that sides would be extra. The one star that I gave was for the cute decorations and homey feel of the establishment, nothing else. read more

Haven't eaten here in a long time and now I remember why. Waited at door for a few minutes for someone to greet us even though restaurant was not busy. Got one of their specials: roast turkey. Someone in our party got medallions. Waited almost 45 minutes for our food and it wasn't anything special. Turkey off the bone but dry. Been in tunkhannock for almost a week on a business trip. Our boss has been bringing lunch from their he usually gets burgers. Which are really tasteful, we came out late one night and decide to have dinner. Right off the bat everyone's friendly and welcoming. Our waiter gave us recommendations as we got seated. She recommended the ribs which were a specialty there and so were the shrimp bisk so we ordered that. When the food came we were blown away with all the food the meat on the ribs came right off and were extremely good!! Shrimp Bisk was also excellent. We've bee here about 4 times since the first time we've tried everything they recommended lol. This time I got the salmon with asparagus and "Dill Sauce" I fell in love with it something totally different from what I'm use too! We also tried whatever was on tap for beer tried some new IPA NIBLE HILL. Something different from California! I'll be looking for that type of beer when I'm back home. People here are great and friendly great spot to have lunch or dinner! Thank you Fireplace. We have three more days here will be back here for sure! read more

I was so happy that restaurant dining could resume this weekend. The county moved to the "green" reopening phase and restaurants could open with 50% occupancy, with staff wearing facemasks. I went to The Fireplace on Saturday, June 15th, believing that restaurants would be following that procedure. A Facebook Post from Laura Yale said they were "ready to open today safely and responsibly". Nothing could have been more deceptive. Out of a staff of at least six servers, only one had on a mask. I kept waiting for them to put them on, thinking that as tables were seated we would see enforcement from management. When I later looked into the kitchen, I could see that the cooking staff wore no gloves or masks. By the time we left, the restaurant had seated a large group/party of possibly 20 guests in the one corner of the room and EVERY TABLE was filled. They did not limit occupancy at all (no tables had been removed from what was normally there). The leadership at this restaurant ignored every protocol. My husband said he could hear guests another table saying "no masks?" I wish that a value would be placed on scientific research that says that facemasks can help . . . and that social distancing can help. I know of someone who works in a hospital and witnesses people going on ventilators who do not go off of them, at least not alive. Until there is a treatment for when people do get sick, or until there is a vaccine, there should be some concern. What upset me even more is deception involved. The Facebook post stating that they are opening safely and responsibly was misleading since the procedures that should have been in place, the procedures we were expecting to be in place, were not. read more

Food was allright. I had a NY strip, but I received a sirloin steak. Same price on the menu so I didn't really care. At least it was cooked the right way. But seriously folks, why does it take over an hour to receive a steak when your restaurant isn't even half full? There really isn't an excuse for this. This is a local go to for us. There is a wide selection of food and some of the items are great like the filet medallions and the homemade pumpkin bread. Some items are hit or miss. The salad dressings are usually tasty and now that they have gotten rid of the ridiculous seashell dishes, you can eat your salad without accidentally dumping it The decor is extremely dated. There are days I would give it 4 stars and days I would give it 2, so overall 3 stars. read more

I would recommend stopping by the Fireplace for a relaxing meal. Loved the Bison burger - nice and juicy with great flavor. Boyfriend had the fried haddock platter which was huge. This place is a favorite among the people who have lived in this area their entire lives and have no idea what good food or good customer service looks like. If you want to be treated poorly by a slow, miserable waitress who graduated high school in 1905, and your taste buds are fried from years of chain smoking, then this place is for you! Although I have eaten at this restaurant many times in the past. I have noticed that the quality has been slipping. My husband ordered a cheeseburger and fries and I ordered the special Laura's salad. The salad was good as always but the burger and fries were more of a child's portion. The hamburger resembled a flattened patty that you get in a box. Very thin and no offer of extras. The fries portion was unbelievably small. I mean really potatoes are cheap! Was very disappointed in the waiting time to be served as well. I am sorry to say I doubt we will be returning. read more

I live in the area and have eaten in this restaurant 3x in the last 20 yrs. My husband and I ordered 2 NY strip steaks. Mine was ordered med well, and his was ordered "well, so well done I don't care if you burn it." Mine was served med well until you got to the last 3 in on the edge which were raw. My husbands was so rare he didn't even eat it. We also ordered potato skins for an appetizer. The skins never arrived!! But we were told "we took them off the bill." My husband informed the server (not the waitress who seemed to disappear after seeing how raw the steaks were but did allow the brand new server to handle it) that this was the most expensive baked potato he ever ate. We told the server it was OK, it happens, but not coming back. So 20 yrs later I can honestly tell you spend your hard earned money elsewhere. I wish I could give zero stars but I guess the pumpkin bread (reason we came was the only possible factory to even this place a star). The place was fairly dead when my fiance and I went there for a late lunch. The hostess acted like we were inconveniencing her by coming in to give them business. The service was quick, but with the food seeming like the same microwaved/reheated items you would get at Applebees that the least I would expect. My fiance thinks she may have seen a rodent outside entering the building. I thought the right thing to do was give the hostess a head's up about this. She played it off by forcing a laugh and saying "Well I know you're girlfriend isn't very good looking but I wouldn't say that about her." Incredibly rude. I would recommend they ditch the sad attempt at being a restaurant and fall back to a small bakery and save face with their home made bread. read more

The Fireplace offers a home cooked-like meal at a reasonable price. You almost feel like you are at someone's house having dinner. The service is fairly accommodating and nice. Like the other reviewer I usually have the beef medallions, which I recommend as they have been consistently good. We did have an issue once with a chicken kabob dish smelling like propane which did not get resolved to my satisfaction but that is water under the bridge. Overall an OK experience. The occasionally have small homemade pumpkin bread loaves to buy at the register which are very good. read more
