January '24, the R door/screen went out of alignment/wouldn't close. David at Utica arranged for Jacob to return (only 5 days after my call) today 2/5/24. The services is bad. First the installment date that was a no show. Then I had my fireplace installed did not function properly. Spoke with someone who says will call right back with a time after giving her 3 weeks of date I was off no call back for 1 1/2 weeks and not given a date I was off. The Canton Store Director was very willing to help us when we went in. We put in a downpayment for a unit and he told us that we would be hearing from the Installer. We received a tentative invoice showing the cost that did not list an inspection fee and there was no mention from sales or from the service installer that there would be a $125 service fee. We had heard about a previous problem with their installation and when we questioned both sales and service, we received no information on our concern. When the installer arrived he wanted to install the gas line in a quick and easy way that did not consider code requirements for running the line. With no inspection required, there would be no consequences in his mind. This was similar to the problem that we heard from another customer. With that said, we contacted the store to cancel the sale. The Store Director said he would not refund the inspection fee and it took over 3 weeks to get a check back from them less the $125 inspection cost. read more

Don't buy from them! VERY disappointed in the outcome. NEVER explained that the fireplace insert would drop to the floor and not be where it was. Crew came to install were slobs. First question asked was where is your bathroom? The house smelled so badly with fumes....the dog got sick that night....and we got headaches. Crew never said to open a window (I did that myself). Sparks flew ALL OVER my furniture and carpet.....simply a TERRABLE experience! Then they didn't have the right logs...said they were discontinued....my husband said get the floor model....the whole reason for that insert was the birch logs. No class, concern, explanations. We've paid to have a custom mantel and now the fireplace isn't even in the right place! Don't put yourself what we have gone through. The store looks professional....the work is not! read more

I highly suggest that you never use FireSide Hearth and Home. Here is why. Upon calling to have my remote looked at, I was told it would cost $225 for someone to come to my house. I asked why so much and almost said no thank you, but the lady told me that the service included an over all check of the fireplace. This included checking of the embers, the logs, the flame, and making sure it running over all well. Since we just bought this house 2 years ago I booked it. Shame on me for not asking how long this takes or asking for more details. The day the service is to happen we were told that someone would be to our house between 11-3. Comcast even gives you a smaller window, but my fiancee was home and waiting. At 2:19 I received a call that the gentleman would not be able to make it to our house until 5. I said fine since my fiancee already wasted his day. Again I should have said no at this point. The gentleman arrives. I was pleased that he took off his shoes and laid a throw down in front of the fireplace. At that point he precedes to check the flame, tell us that our remote is dead and we need a new one that costs over $100. Then he took the logs out and looked at them, wiped down the bottom of the fire place, and cleaned the glass. That was it. As I said above shame on me for not asking more details because his 25 minute visit cost us $238 dollars since we declined the remote. A plumber, electrician, and insulation installer are cheaper than that. I know this because they were all at my house over the past 2 years. The best part is, my fiancee called to complain and the customer service basically couldn't wait to get him off the phone. She basically said that is the way it is and to call someone closer to our home next time. Their office is 9.5 miles from our house. Stay away. Just had service done on my 10 year old gas fireplace a week ago. I needed a tune up, plus I have had issues with my remote not working. Within a day, the remote failed again. The technician had put batteries in both the remote, and the unit that is in the fireplace. Since I paid $275 for this service, and my remote is still not in working order, I called back to have a technician come out again. The phone system is the worst. I called yesterday at 9:00 a.m. and got a recording stating their hours were 10 to 7. Called back at 6:30 only to get a recording that said their hours were 8 to 4. Then called and got a busy signal. Today, after a 30 MINUTE wait on hold - I got through and was told that I would have to pay $99 for a REVISIT and $199 for a new remote. So I'm not sure what my $275 got me besides new batteries in faulty equipment, plus cleaner glass. My suggestion - get more people to answer your phones instead of rudely making them wait 30 minutes. Secondly, stand by your service and your products. read more

Update April 2021: Bought a gas insert 9 weeks ago, and it was just put in. Everything AFTER signing my receipt has not been good. We hired fireside to update the tile, Jeff came out and did a site survey and we agreed to his estimate. Our instructions were "provide the tile and grout". Installation day, the first thing out of the guys mouth was "the surface is prepped for tile, we won't do it". So, they did not do the tile. They installed the gas insert. It did not have the liner we ordered, and it had the wrong front accent we ordered. We started the burn to cure the insert and it smelled god-awful. We followed the manufacturer's directions and even 24 hours later, with the windows open, it didn't smell right. Turns out, it was leaking gas, after being told "the smell is normal". I am ready to have fireside remove the insert all together and seal the damn chimney and drywall over it. NOT worth the hassle, stress, time, or money. I would give zero stars, but Daniel has been amazing through the whole process. Feb. 2021 - Went in to look at direct vent gas inserts. My wife and I had been to two other fireplace locations and not treated well. We asked a few set up questions to kind of see how it was going to go. The guy there, Daniel, is very knowledgeable. He did not try to mislead, bend the truth, or say anything that wasn't 100% true (and that he could prove). If anyone that I know needs or wants anything done with a fireplace, I would recommend Fireside and tell them to ask for Daniel. read more

BEFORE you invest any of your valuable time with this company, be aware...There is a $125.00 (non refundable) fee for someone to come out and quote a job. Fireside is the only fireplace company I contacted that charge this fee, which can only be credited IF you order from them. Once I paid the fee, it took 4 days for someone to call me, and another 5 days to get them here. When the quote was ready, I was asked to drive back into the store to review it...probably to help manage my sticker shock! The Fireside quote was 35% HIGHER than I had received elsewhere. I chose to place my order with a more reputable, long standing company, which made two separate home visits, at no charge. I regret giving Fireside any of my hard-earned money at all. read more

I'm going to try to keep this brief, as spending time with Fireside is not worth my time, however, informing others of my experience to save them the grief IS worth my time. The wrong stone was ordered, our limestone was cracked, the fireplace door swings the wrong way and the sales rep was horrible. We had our fireplace installed 6 months ago and I am still upset about the process (thinking time would settle me down). We gutted the entire house, and basically started from scratch, you anticipate some issues. With all the contractors in our house we did not have any issues like with fireside: 1. Negotiate your price; the price they tell you is not the final price. The good news is they did negotiate with me a bit at the beginning. 2. Timing was good, initially; we went with fireside because they could get the job done the quickest out of any of the other companies we called. 3. I called the Royal Oak store (we went into the store the day before), they were busy so transferred me to Utica. That was problem #1. 4. Talked to Utica store, they ended up sending out two contractors to measure the same space, apparently I did not tell them we wanted a fire place door (highly doubt that, we fell in love with a door at the store. And, the two guys called me within hours of each other so there was no communication between myself and the store before guy #2 came)....So we needed two different guys to come out to do the same job. I should have assumed at this point that communication would be a problem and went with a different company. 5. Had to coordinate two guys coming out to measure the space and for the door and rush ordered the door. Be warned, Right hand swing and right side hinges are NOT the same thing, the problem here is the sales guy at the fireside store DOES NOT KNOW THIS. This store needs to get it together. Our door swings the wrong way. We did not see this until AFTER everything was completely done. The contractor showed me the door and the very first thing I said was "The door is swinging the wrong way!". Fireside offered to give me a door at 50% off and reset it. Who has an additional $750 to spend on a door that was ordered incorrectly because the store sales guy and contractor don't have the same "fireplace language" And we didn't have time for that, we had other contractors lined up to do the floor and rest of our house. 6. When our limestone was delivered it was cracked, right down the middle, on the truck. We had to order new limestone and our project was delayed because of it. The 6ft long limestone slab had one small pallet under it, and two huge ropes on the end to "tie it down" putting incredible pressure on the middle section which I am sure cracked hitting one pot hole. 7. The stone was ordered wrong! This turned into a "he said she said" match between me and the sales rep "You said you wanted brown speckles" Nope, I specifically said "No brown speckles." This gets worse, sales guy at fireside said I had to buy ALL NEW STONE, no refunds. I called the distributor in Troy, they said it was no problem to swap it out as this has been done before; however, I needed fireside to coordinate it. Sales guy worked so hard to tell me this CANNOT happen....Eventually it did, and as the distributor said, it was NO PROBLEM. Fireside sales guy was the one holding it up. He assured me this is a one-time thing that would never happen again. When I picked up the stone an hour earlier they said it was no big deal at all and has happened before. Someone is lying and it isn't the distributor. Basically if you want to be hassled, get the wrong stone, have cracked limestone and have your fireplace door swing the wrong way, go with Fireside! read more

We called Fireside to come out and fix our 2 1/2 year old direct vent gas fireplace. The guy, Jeff, was out for only 40 minutes and charged us a full $150 per hour rate! All he did was turn up the flame on the pilot light control. I could have googled that! He did not clean the unit nor did he do anything else. This did not fix our issue of the fireplace not starting consistently. I tried called him back out three times and he never responded. Poor service and lack of response at this place. I would like to say in the beginning we set out to buy a electric fireplace and traveled several different stores to make sure we would get the help we needed first hand in person didn't want to order on line so we ended up here at the Utica store with the dimensions we had because we have a wood fire place we no longer use. We spoke to the store help got a lot of info went home decided to go with fireside hearth and home Utica we sat down and showed the salesman our sizes we had to work with because they have to be precise. They in turn found one on line quickly ordered on the spot we put half down cc left happy and relieved until we needed exact finished dimensions to build hearth around it. I looked at our receipt which did not have sizes had to call the store and our s sales person wasn't there so I asked the one on the phone could he please look up our order to get them and no he was too busy told me to call the simplex on line that's what he would do so being frustrated my husband had to go with our measurements we had and the actual order came in and OMG he ordered the profile which is 4" taller than size we needed!! We walked in and struggled to get anyone to talk to us - when we finally did, the guy said he would meet us over by the insert display, but instead started helping someone else. It was incredibly RUDE! We were prepared to spend thousands of dollars there, but not with that kind of service. The store is nice but pricy with a lot of products,salesman are hard to get. The best part is the service team, well trained and effective. But a word to the wise buy the standard wood burner that will always be the best choice. The gas units have a ton of electronic that will cost you when they brake. This is not something you can do yourself. And the guys from Fireside are some of the best in the business. I normally don't or use service repairman because they drive up the bill or they replace part until the thing gets fixed. NOT the case with the service person who worked on the unit at out home. Be very cautious about using Fireside Hearth and Home. They are polite, though frustratingly inept, carry an inferior product, and offer very poor customer support. I purchased a Heat&Glow Supreme Oak gas log set from Fireside in December 2012 for about $900. It came with a "lifetime" warranty. In November 2017 I began the warranty claim process for several of the logs that had cracked and crumbled. The process included photographs, multiple calls, emails, trips to their store, and a lot of waiting for all of the parts, which included 2 metal screens that had burned up. I had no use of the fireplace for the entire winter season. Finally the logs were delivered, but not the screens. After more calls and trips to their store, I received a package with only one screen, which I left with Fireside so they could order the second screen. Now, almost a year after I began the warranty process, Fireside states that I have already received the screens. I asked them to check their storeroom hoping they would at least find the screen I left with them, but their response was along the lines of "looking for a needle in a haystack." Bottom line: Fireside continually pointed to Heat & Glow, the supplier, as the culprit for slow response and lack of warranty follow through. Either entity could have gained my satisfaction and respect by expeditiously honoring the warranty and standing behind their product. Good will is expensive to buy and hard to earn. Instead, Fireside Hearth and Home and Heat&Glow have bought a lot of bad will on the cheap over a set of screens with a retail value of about $36. read more

When I went to return the item, literally two hours later, I was told it was a "special order." I didn't make any order?! I went into store to get some ideas on a fire place for a new house that I'm personally building to live in . The lady sales associate was extremely rude and didn't want to deal with me . I guess that she felt that I was a builder just looking for ideas . I'm still a customer and my money's just as green as anyone else's . I asked her the price on several items and she wouldn't tell me the price . She told me it didn't matter I'm not going to buy any thing from the store any ways . I asked her for some literature on there products, and she didn't want to give me any . Like I said she was very rude and didn't want me in the store . I'm not sure why because I'm a very friendly person . The funny part about this, is the sales associate told me she was the owner . In business you treat every one with respect regardless if they buy something or not .Also in my experienced option they are extremely over priced . I have personally found that Best Block at eight mile and groesbeck was more professional, the sales staff is very polite and there prices seem to be more reasonable.
