Stayed in Suite #7 and had a good experience. Room came with a kitchenette, spa jacuzzi, two full baths. Check in was easy and the owner went to do a walk through before we brought our baggage in. He actually asked the housekeeper to give the kitchen sink another wipe down as he thought it needed it. Bathrooms were clean and stocked with plenty of towels. Pressure in the shower was great. The kitchenette had just enough supplies provided that we were able to cook breakfast daily and dinner one evening. Its a dated property but charmingly rustic. Parking is easy, pool area clean (heard it was heated but we didn't use it), AC and fans worked great. Our suite came with a little private patio with a picnic table and grill. Had we known about the grill we would've brought some charcoal to make dinner but not a big deal, now we know. The bed was comfortable and clean. After reading some reviews and being a pretty frequent traveler, I've gotten good at looking for bed bugs/critters. The bed/futon/room was perfectly fine. Great location, easy to get to the main village area and anything else we wanted. The owners were very nice and welcoming. Dog friendly although we didn't bring ours this time around. This was my second winter staying here. This time there were 4 of us and two small dogs for 3 nights. We rented the accessible 1 bedroom suite AKA room #2 downstairs. Upon check in I asked for the yelp check in discount and received $60 off. The entire layout was a kitchen with an accessible bathroom next to it, the living room with a queen futon, fireplace & tv, a closet, then a bedroom with its own fireplace, tv, restroom and separate exit door. It was very spacious. The kitchen had dinnerware, cookware, a toaster, stovetop, fridge, microwave and coffee maker plus snacks. The futon was stuck on our first evening and the owner actually opened it for us. So awesome! We did not require maid service but they did come by daily to ask if we needed any trash taken out, fresh towels or toiletries. Upon check out I received a $50 poker chip for future use as a discount towards my stay. Will definitely be keeping it. read more

I stayed there this last week end April 26th and 27th. I asked for a room with a spa and received it. There was no one at the office so you had to call a number and a young man came from the back. Where do I start? The gas fireplce had a twist timer that I could not get working so I called the number again and the manager that was next door came over and turned it and told me it will go on in two to three minutes. Then later I tried to turn the TV on and had no luck so I called again he told me I had to press the button on the box connect to the back of the TV why didn't he mention that when I checked in who would know to do this. Then a little while latter I needed some ice and noticed that the ice room was just next door I tried my key over and over again then knocked on his door he came out and tries his key then informed me that the lock was broken and he would fix it tomorrow. I had to drive into the village to get some ice. When I started filling the spa I started noticing an oily film on the top I'm sorry but that is disgusting and extremely irresponsible. I drained the water and then used the dish soap and a scrub sponge and sanitized the spa as good as possible. Finally the next morning I went to take a shower and the valve on the tub spicket would not transfer the water to the shower so once again I knocked on his door he came over and tries only to tell me that it was also broken and he would fix it later that day. There was a very small amount of water that tricked from the shower head so I made the best of it. I paid $180.00 for the room so I then told him I believe I am owed a discount he just walked out the door. The walkways were covered with coffee and soda stains the shrubs were cover with a scattered deck of cards and trash the hotel as a whole needs a serious make over and hopefully new ownership. Do your self a favor and stay as for away from this place as possible!!! read more

I'm between a 3.5 and 4 star so I'll leave a 4 star on this review. I looked for a family friendly place to stay for one night. And I would stay here again. Good location, nice staff and a clean room. I will say the reason I was dabbling with a 3.5 was because the futon in room 19 did smell pretty bad. I'm not sure If the cover can come Off to be washed or it needs to be replaced. But That was a tiny thing in the grand scheme of things. Other than that, everything else seemed spotless! read more

This hotel was such a delight, full of great surprises. We were able to upgrade to a room with a gorgeous lake view and in-room jacuzzi. Our suite had a great deck, plenty of towels, and 2 full bathrooms. Pool was heated. We even got to play some basketball! Shower was hot! Olena at the front desk was delightful and accommodating. What a vile horrendous place Fireside Lodge is!!! The accommodation we were given, number 18, is best described and an over sized shed, and a rotting oversized shed at that. It was disgusting. when we went inside the place was dirty, freezing cold for some reason when it was 30 degrees outside!!! the bed sheets hadn't been changed, the bathroom door was hanging off the hinges dead flies in the bath, etc etc the list could go on and on!!! Also the location of Lodge 18, is opposite 2 other lodges (I use the word lodge as a real loose term!!) that were occupied by the owners of 'Fireside Lodge' and what a mess, loads of junk just laying around, they live like gypsys!!! The owners live like pigs and are dirty, rude disgusting people. The weirdest thing when we pulled up in the car park was one young lad, a family member of the owners, was strimming the dirt around he outside perimeter!!! There was no grass, he was just strimming the dirt and flicking stones everywhere including against our car. All very strange!!! Due to how disgusting the accommodation was, we refused to stay here and went and stayed at a Best Western Boutique hotel in the centre of Big Bear Lake, which was amazing. Please anyone even considering Fireside Lodge, please do yourself a favor DO NOT STAY HERE!! go and find anywhere else to stay, this place is disgusting and should be closed down its disgusting and inhabitable!!!! read more

i see the other reviews, it's a room by room thing. i booked the jacuzzi suite and they tried to talk me into a 2nd floor w view of lake. i was all want jacuzzi! and the room we had was basic but everything worked or my ex would have had a coronary. the second day we were there we had an angry blizzard and w the jacuzzi and fireplace i stayed in the water until my fingers wrinkled. my junkyard dog loved this place more than his humans ! and yeah i went down that steep hill towards LA w no chains. rolled past CalTrans and almost hit two cars that hmmm came out of nowhere but hey we lived! read more

If I could give zero stars I would! Sunny is the most unprofessional "Manager" I've ever had the unfortunate opportunity to deal with. The night I checked in, I put my stuff in my room, walked to the Village to get something to eat, came back and noticed what I had just checked myself into. The bathroom had blood on the floor, broken items, cracks on the wall, faucet fixtures were not properly maintained,the bathtub drain didn't work, etc. I called the desk and the gentleman working the night shift came up to the room. I was told that "Its not a lot of blood" and "it wasn't there when the last people checked in" checked IN! Not out! And that he would have a cleaning lady clean up the blood in the morning. I was told "We don't let people take baths because it wastes water...shower only" but he then got me a drain stopper. When I asked him to light the pilot light on the fireplace (It was in the 50s and getting colder...Im from LA...I was cold) I was told "It wasn't on because it gets hot here. We are closer to the sun" wtf? Thanks for the laugh! Instead of offering me a clean room, this guy dismissed any issue. The next morning a maintenance worker was smoking outside my room. I asked him if the cleaning lady was here yet. "He said there wasn't going to be a cleaning lady coming today" I told him about the blood, he said he would help clean it up, but never did. An hour later I ran into the "Manager" Sunny. I told him about the blood. He saw it and said "Its not a lot" Apparently blood there is normal because their responses were eerily similar. No, it wasn't a blood bath on the floor....but it was blood and it wasn't mine...please handle it! Sunny got some cleaner, a broom with a towel on the end and proceeded to clean the floor. Thank you! The maintenance guy apparently "checked out" of his room next to mine and was working during the day. He had a friend with him (tweeker vibes) and she proceeded to sit outside my door all day, listen in on my phone calls, and even commented to me about them on my way out. I started to get the creepy vibe, luckily I was going out for a linch and hoped she'd be gone by the time I returned...nope! Instead this workers friend proceeded to have a drug deal right in the parking lot, went to the room, did her thing and walked out stumbling and yelling. I didn't report this right away to management as I was on my way to a meeting. When I returned at 745pm, I noticed the workers belongings still all over the table and chairs outside the room. I immediately contacted management and requested a refund for the night. This is were Sunny showed his true colors as a horrible business person. He refused a refund. He told me it was late. He told me to "just stay". I told him I did not feel safe staying and he looked at the computer, said take it up with Expedia. I didn't book with Expedia Sunny, but I did take it up with booking.com. Sunny then lied to Booking.com and said I never made a complaint. Lies! Well now my complaint will be more than yelp. Blood in my room, not belonging to me.....and you need to wear a mask Sunny. The good, the bad and my personal recommendation. So my wife and I have always had a house here in the area. We had a family house that has always just been here. The old saying you don't know what you have until it's gone really hits hard because we miss big bear and today we had to rent a hotel room and it just wasn't the same. We tried to reserve an Airbnb and the front door wouldn't open so we ended up searching for a hotel literally last minute. Now this is not a Hilton but I have to tell you the service was great and the guy at the front counter was really nice. I believe he lives here on the property because his son and came up and was really polite and say hello to us while we checked in. The guy hooked us up with a lake view room which is not on the lake but you can see the lake from the balcony and we were really lucky because it snowed all night long and we literally sat next to the fire and watch the snow. So for the record I think the service is really good, I think the rooms are pretty good but remember this is not a Hilton. I always like to find something and share that's bad about a place because not only do I think it's a good idea to share with everybody but it also gives the business a chance to improve what it is they have to offer. The only bad thing I can tell you about this place is that it's a 35-year-old motel on the side of the road in big bear and again it's not a Hilton. So how bad it really is it, not bad at all because my wife and I will be back and I actually look forward to it. If you're going to visit the big bear area and you're looking for a hotel I highly recommend this place, ask for a room with a view of the lake and I highly recommend you back your car in if it's snowing because as I was pulling out of the hotel a big chunk of snow fell off the roof and landed on my windshield but did not break it. I don't normally write bad reviews and I'm bracing myself for the owner to reply with a rude and incoherent response as you may have seen on other reviews that is why I'm posting under a name I did not book. I truly do not understand where the positive reviews are coming from it truly baffles me. I'm not a high maintenance person who requires all the bells and whistles I truly just need the basics. However, this place was a shit show from the moment we pulled into the parking lot. It is so run down with the wooden support beams rotting broken stairs. You can tell these people have not put any money into this place in years which is sad because I bet this used to be a cute place. When checking in the front office smelled like armpit. The lady at the front desk was rude and short with my husband and kept pushing him to upgrade without telling us a price which is a BIG red flag. Once we got to our room it was different than the one we had booked on booking.com but that was the least of our worries. The room smelled dank and moist. There were so many things wrong. Just look at the pictures they speak for themselves. My eyes were burning the moment I stepped in the room. Normally I like to have wine and relax in my hotel room but the thought of eating in there revolted me. The bedding was obviously not cleaned and the floor was so disgusting I had to make my child wear shoes the entire time.i knew it was really disgusting when my husband didn't want to shower there and it wasn't just me being hypersensitive. They advertise having AC but there was a sign saying heat only. The room was so disgusting I didn't want to touch anything. We left at 8:30am and there was no one in the office to be found despite having a sign say the office opens at 8am. The other thing that bothered me was seeing the owners or managers whoever they were pull up in luxury cars. This really shows what's important to them. They are dishonest and will argue about everything. I truly believe they are so delusional that they believe they are running a great establishment. Shame on fireside lodge. It was really clean and although the room was small, it was really comfortable. It was quiet. No counter space in the bathroom area though. The shower was great, lots of water pressure and the bed was so comfy. It had a microwave, fridge, hair dryer and a/c, which a lot of places in BB don't have. We just spent our 3rd Wedding Anniversary at the Fireside Lodge . The room was super clean and had a lovely gas fired fireplace . This was our first time away from home since the Covid Pandemic . I've just never been happier. Originally booked at the knights inn nextdoor and couldn't stay... it was super unsafe and uncleanly. The Fireside came to the rescue. It's right next door, the quality for the price is fantastic. The rooms are suites with kitchenette and wood burning fireplaces. The owner, maintenance, and front desk staff are all exceptional human beings. The Fireside saved the day and I now have a new favorite place to stay in Big Bear. I will be back. read more

Lady at desk allowed us to check in earlier since we arrived earlier than expected. Room was very very clean. Pool area was also clean and not overcrowded. Enjoyed late night and morning on the balcony in the fresh air with view of the lake. Definitely recommend if you are in town! I stayed over the Christmas season for two nights in a room with one bed and a jacuzzi. I was expecting sparse but not dirty. The floors were not cleaned and the manager / owners son admitted that housekeeping was stretched due to labor shortage and the high season. Yet, no discount. Worse, the jacuzzi emitted gunk that appeared to be old dead skin. This is a well know result of not cleaning for months. When I complained and asked for a small discount to make it right the manager/ owner lost his temper and yelled. I thanked them and went on my way. I would not recommend this place. read more

My husband, myself and our dog stayed here for one night. We stayed in the King spa suite. The room has everything you will need in a kitchen (other than a stove), plates, utensils, micro, mini fridge,etc. the room was very clean, close to the lake, walking distance from the village, close to restaurants, stores, great location! I found this to be reasonably priced in addition to the pet fee ($40), compared to all other hotels. Also, shout to Olena (front desk) who was incredibly helpful and courteous during my phone booking and in person check-in. Only reason I am giving 4 stars is because the fireplace was on when we arrived and it was so faint that I think only gas was coming out(?)...Olena came and turned it off so everything was fine after that. I would also recommend getting a room upstairs because if your upstairs neighbor turn on the spa, it's pretty loud when trying to sleep. I would book this place again. read more

Worst stay ever in big bear. Rented a room for my family. Me, my husband, my 14yr old son (biggest in the family) and 19yr old son (also big). Room said to have room for 4 adults. There was a queen bed for us in the bedroom and in the living room was supposed to have couch pull out bed.... all it had was a futon. Luckily one of my sons was home sick and the other stayed with him so my daughter, (27yr) stayed with us instead. No wifi. When i complained they said well its free wifi.... no its not, i spent almost $300/ night on a place i think was worth $150. So I'm paying for wifi. read more

This place is so noisy with college kids, loud music and partiers. Manager either is deaf or just not walking the area to control it's guests. It got so bad that the police had to come because there was over 70 drunk kids hanging out at this place. Definitely not family friendly. Avoid this place if you want a quiet, peaceful time in the mountains. Update: See the the owners response: "they were just enjoying their vacation...sorry you don't like it". Tell me Mr. Owner, what person in any part of the world wants to be around drunk, noisy, inconsiderate college kids making so much noise for hours and makes it so your family can't sleep (and pay for that room?). We stayed here NYE 2017 and came back for quick trip back to big bear for the most recent snowfall. We booked direct and Sunny got us an affordable rate and helped us every step of the way to get the room we had in mind with the appropriate accommodations. A few things changed since our last stay- they do allow pets but it's a $40 flat rate fee for one and $60 for 2 or more pets. Check-out is also 10am during holiday and peak season, 11am otherwise. But plenty of free parking, a nice fireplace inside, and close to pine knot street where all the restaurants and bars are (walking distance) Glad it's still kept in good condition, we'll be back. read more

Meh, it was a place to stay. Not the worst I've stayed and certainly not the best. Got a deal on Groupon for a dog friendly "chalet". We'll it was a attached chalet, #20, snug between 19 and 21. Had a shared front porch, you can kind of see the lake. A small lawn for the dog with picnic tables and a grill. Even a pool, just around the corner. Our whole time, we saw maybe 6 cars at the most besides our own. The place is close to the lake, a marina, restaurants, the village I'd a short walk away. Location is pretty convenient. So the entry room had a small kitchenette, a small table and 2 chairs in front of 1 window, A futon, a tv on tje wall, a TV stsnd?, an end table, a coffee table, and a fireplace. This Room Was Very cramped, Then bring in your things, even less room! Now into the bedroom, not bad, one of our lamps didn't work but who cares. The window behind our bed has Blinds that see into a storage closet (weird), shut those Blinds immediately! Bathroom is ok with toiletries and towels, 2 more lights out but we could see, the shower head is a bit low even for a 5'6" female, but the water was warm with ok pressure, it could be worse. The worse part was how stuffy and warm the room is, we had to open the window and door and dig out the 2 electric fans they had in the closet. Set one by the window and one in front of the bedroom door to try to circulate cool air in. By the time your ready for sleep it's cool enough, stays comfy all night. I wouldn't recommend this place nor stay here again. Definitely not worth the price. read more

The rooms were a nice size, and had a nice (partially obstructed) view of the lake. The pool was a decent size and deep enough to dive into gently. You can't beat the location--it's a 5 minute walk to the village, and about the same to the launching area for a number of kayak rental places. The owner couldn't have been nicer, and made sure to check in with us every day. He made sure to give us the best possible room for our rate. The property and some of the furniture is a little older, but it is clean and we didn't mind the age. Also, this is not management's fault, but guests in two of the rooms next to ours were loud until 4 or 5 am our first night, and it was very hard to sleep as a result. However, when we told the owner about this, he immediately contacted those guests to rectify the problem. The owner was great! read more

We loved it! I did pay extra for an upgrade for a room with a view and a fireplace and it was well worth it! We just bought firewood at a carving shop down the street and kept the place nice and warm the whole time. The place is a bit small but it has everything you need to survive if you don't want to eat out every time - stove, fridge, microwave, toaster etc- all seem pretty clean to me. Also, having the view of the lake was nice as well, specially because we had to stay indoors half the time due extreme windy weather. The place is also very close to downtown and the shops. Will definitely be back to stay here next time. read more
