We can heartily recommend the Dutch Baby, the seasonal hash, and the soup. My spouse gives the coffee 4 stars (and he's picky) and enjoyed the presentation (see photo). I think $5 for tea is a bit much, but they use Smith teas so it's high quality (and tasty). This has become our go-to place for a hearty, sit-down lunch spot. read more

Tasty lunch on 23rd in Portland with family that were in town visiting from the East Coast. This is a cute, cozy spot and we had never tried it before. We decided to take a chance, I'm not gonna lie I was a bit nervous because they do not have a huge menu but they do everything right! We ordered Mac n cheese, crab cakes and a pretzel with cheese & grainy mustard to share. I enjoyed the French dip sando and hubby ordered the pork belly sando. Both were freaking delish! I have walked by Fireside many times and yet for some reason never went in. After seeing them on an Eater PDX article for Cozy Restaurants I decided to finally go in - it definitely lived up to the description. Everything here was incredible - the cocktails were so delicious and the food was full of flavor. The French dip wasn't our favorite but that's because we overlooked that the aoli had horseradish. This was me second time here and a different season so the menu changed. I had the whole pan fried river trout and it was delicious, deboned nicely and light. The butter, garlic polenta was lovely, rich buttery and garlicy. On a warm/clear day this has the best ambiance in the area. It sits right on 23rd street and the top half of the walls are all windows which open upward and give an indoor-outdoor fusion to the space, you can hang your arm over the wall and feel like you're getting the liveliness of the neighborhood while enjoying a meal. I started with the orange creamsicle, maybe i just had different expectations but i didn't love it. So watery, i wanted it to have a thicker creamier texture. The food was okay, i got a burger and my friend had the vegetarian bowl. Her bowl was kind of slim pickings and the burger was cool. The setting is what sells this place, next time I'll just have a drink and maybe try a different plate. read more

Bartender was really nice to begin, but she got increasing agitated with the number of orders coming in as the evening ran on - I don't blame her, but she could've used some help manning the bar. This bar is located in cool hipster neighborhood in Portland! The outdoor sitting is nice but we sat inside! I love Mezcal so as soon as I saw Desperado, I ordered. This Cocktail is very strong and spicy. The presentation comes with fire on which is very fun to watch. Love it! We came for happy hour, we stayed long past for the drinks and...mac and cheese. Happy hour is a good deal, and you can find plenty of snacks. I say snacks, but I mean "food that will fill you up so there's no reason to think about dinner". And mac and cheese. Comes in this adorable little crock, and was hot as LAVA (beware), and was a really good portion, not tiny like *some other happy hour places where they cut the portion in half (or a third) and cut $2 off the price. Made reservations here for our group of 13 and were seated as we all arrived which was nice. I really hate places that make you for the whole group to get there - this place did not do that and I was able to settle in and grab a drink while I waited. First I loved the atmosphere - so cozy with a great natural vibe and these lovely large open windows to do some great people watching on the street. If I lived in town I would come here often just to sit and have dinner by myself - so inviting. I opted for a seasonal drink and dish for dinner. I was strangely intrigued by the butternut squash and whiskey combo and hesitated for a bit, but our server insured me I would be surprised and indeed I was! Fascinating combo that they pulled off really well. So well I had two ;) I opted for a Cheese & Charcuterie Board to start and it hit the spot. For dinner I had the season pasta and brussels sprouts - so rich warming and filling. I loved every bite! (The lady at the table next to me recommended it to me as she loved it too) The brussels added some nice green texture to round it off. Over all this place hit every mark for me. Fireside for a mid week happy hour is a great choice! Their staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the allergens in their food. Speaking of the food, the smash burger is a perfect evening meal, and they have gluten free buns to go with it. They put a small v/gf next to titles on the menu so it's easy to navigate. We sat outside in their mini patio area, it was actually very nice and the street noise which is right next to you wasn't bothersome at all. read more

I honestly don't recall what I had for dinner - I was more into my drink and my kick-ass company. So it didn't leave a big impression on me. My sister really enjoyed her French dip sandwich. Highly recommend warm marinated olives. Was a mix of savory and sweet olives, lovely surprise. My brother in law really enjoyed his steak. My husband ordered the Dick's burger with bacon added and he really enjoyed it, however if I would have ordered it, I would have been upset to find out the bacon has a really heavy Smokey flavor. This is a perennial favorite. We come here for lunch in the summer is when the windows are thrown wide, we come in the winter when the big fireplace is worrying, and everywhere in between. The craft cocktails are outstanding, and we love getting the small plates to share. read more
