This place is on my way to work so I decided to stop by for an alignment. The manager approached me and I was quoted a price of $89 ($10 more than what they have listed online, but w/e, no big deal). I then asked if tire balancing is included and got a response that it's totally different thing. He then offered me a "pothole special" that included alignment, balancing and tire rotation for $239... I guess I must've looked retarded that he thought he could charge me another $150 for 10mins of extra work to balance and rotate my tires. read more

I bought two sets of tires from them and they gave me a better deal than I could find online! My only issue was that they told me the process would take a couple hours turned into almost 3 and sitting in their lobby for that long is not that fun. Customer service is great and both tire installations went fine. They did try to sell me on additional services but they didn't push hard which I liked. I'm not sure what's happened since the old manager Tim left a few months back but things have gone straight down the drain. I've been a customer there for several years and have spent I'm sure tens of thousands of dollars there on our 4 cars. I used to go there for everything that was wrong. Tim and his staff would make sure that we were always taken care of and were courteous and helpful. If I was in a bind they'd squeeze us in to get us back on the road. In the last few months they can't even take the time to look at the issues that I've seen with my cars without bringing in the car on an appointment which isn't available for 3-5 days. Today there were 5 of them behind the counter and wouldn't take the time to pull the error code from the computer until the next available appointment on Tuesday (today's Thursday). They no longer care about keeping loyal customers so I'm no longer one. read more

YOU ARE BEING WARNED - DO NOT GO HERE!! An earlier poster stated: "I think auto service centers have the bad reputation of trying to rip people off by selling parts and services that aren't necessary", and let me tell you that was EXACTLY the case during my visit last week to Firestone in Skokie! I had been to my dealership and found out that my car needed rear brakes (pads only - rotors were totally fine), no problems whatsoever with the front brakes. Hearing the price given to me by my dealer, I decided to contact Firestone since I had been a customer for over 20 years and had a Firestone credit card, which I could pay off the brakes. When I called, they quoted what the price would be, except they needed to take a look at the car first. However, an hour later, they told me it would be over $1,000 because I needed rotors, front brake pads, front rotors, etc. too. I then took my car to another dealership who closely examined my car. True to what the first dealership said, I really only needed rear brake pads. So, I called Firestone consumer affairs and was contacted by the District Manager. He offered me a free oil change if I took my car to another Firestone for them to examine the front brakes (since I'd already had the rear brake pads done). I took it there, and sure enough, I did not need the front brakes or rotors at all!! With egg on their face, they offered an apology and expressed that they hope I will not lose trust in Firestone!! NEVER, EVER, EVER AGAIN! Either this was intentional or complete incompetence...either way, it doesn't matter! If I could give this place negative stars, I would. read more

I cannot even give it the one star I did. This place gave me a 5,000 dollar estimate to fix a noise in my car saying that I needed a new engine on a less than 50,000 mile car! Shocked I took it to the dealer where I bought the car and guess what? Just an oil change and the noise was gone and NO damage to my engine whatsoever. I somehow got a giant nail stuck in my tire that turned into a slow leak on a Sunday afternoon. I don't know if you've ever tried to find auto service on a Sunday afternoon in the north suburbs, but it's pretty spotty at best. I located a Firestone in Skokie onlin that was open and brought the car in for a quick patch job. They could not have been nicer, more accommodating and helpful the whole time I was there. The mechanic came out to meet me in the waiting room and let me know that upon closer inspection, the tire had been punctured through the sidewall, making it impossible to repair. A brand new one would cost $227. Fortunately, the tires were from a different Firestone location and I remembered I had a warranty on the them. However, the warranty was listed on a previous phone number that I could not recall. The manager made a few calls and got me the warranty price anyway, saving me $180 on the replacement. Since when does an auto shop go out of their way to try and save you money? I can get used to auto service like this. read more

I went in because my warranty should have been still intact on my tires and I had one with an audible leak. I told them which tire and where the nail in the tire was. Afrer waiting an hour they come out saying they didn't find a nail and the tire was fine but the opposite tire needed to be replaced. The opposite tire had no leak and the trwad was fine. Tbey said I had to buy a $166.00 tire. I told them I will go somewhere else that will fix the tire that you can hear leaking and not try to trick someone into buying a tire they don't need. read more

Went here for an alignment. Day later heard something knocking under the car. Turned out to be two bolts they did not tighten at all. Thank G-d I noticed it or I may have lost control of the car while driving. Brought it back to them for a second try. read more

I used to like this place (went there several times and they installed my tires) but I don't trust them at all now. They replaced a drive belt. it still squeaked. I brought it back and after waiting about 2 1/2 hours while they repaired it, guess what: it squeaked as I pulled out of the parking spot. Had to call them out to listen. Even worse I took the car in for a minor tire repair a week later. They said I needed new back tires and struts. Cost would be $1200 but a 10% discount if I had the work done right then. I had recently been to the dealer for a recall and full check on the car. They did not mention any problems with suspension or tires. I took it to my regular mechanic, and he verified I did not need new struts or new back tires. I will never go back here, even though I purchased a 'lifetime" alignment package from them. read more

Do not go here they are rip offs. First they tell me brake inspections are free( which they are in all of the region) then when I get there they try to charge me $21.99. Which was cool I needed a rotor inspection anyways. I just recently (2 days ago) put in new brakes and they tell me I need new brakes. I suggest getting a second opinion...... 0 stars. Employees are very condescending and rude. They try to sell repairs that are not needed. Very untrustworthy and dishonest people in my opinion. Worst of all, however, was an oil change I got from them that messed up my engine. Literally 20-30mins after the oil change, thick smoke was coming out of my engine. I had to get it towed to a mechanic I trust, albeit is a lot farther. Sure enough, my trusted mechanic said that the new oil was the problem. Firestone did refund what I paid for the oil change (about $20), but did not pay for the repairs which was about ($300). After that experience, never again did I go back, and I told my family and friends to stay away from that business. read more

Its sucks. Went in for simple alignment and oil changed at 10am said be done by 12:30. Came back at 12:30 car wasnt touched. Wasted my day on this shit hole of a place. I have had the worst expiriences here ever. Its places like these that only serve to drive home that in this world there are incompetant mechanics who only want your money. They can't do front end alignments on any car made before 1981 even if it was a 1979 model that hadn't changed by then. They wont do it even if you hand them a repair manual. I took my tire in there yesterday with a nail puncture and they ripped the bead on the inside of the tire. They deny any wrong doing and refuse to listen to me. They didn't warn me that they would have to remove the tire or explain what they were going to do. If I had known they would remove the tire from the rim I would have gone elsehwre because of the risk posed to the tire. the tire is hard to find as it is of a very unusual size. They management and staff are rude and uncaring. I wont be going back and I am seeking legal advice. read more

updated info... i recently went to other mechanic for second opinion. According to firestone crew, some of those problems they mentioned were very critical and needed to replace right away and i was getting flat tire so that needed to be repaired asap. not to mention repairing a flat was another $20 or so. The other mechanic told me that I still had approx. over 5,000 miles left on my brakes and tires were in good shape and no puncture to be found. Also if i were to do the same job which includes all four new brake pads and new rotors( all OE), the estimation came out to be just a little as $250 less. Big difference, huh.. Do please research before you decide to put a trust in other people's hand. read more

one morning i left my car for a checkup with them, after a week before they have done some work on the car, and went to work. around 2 pm i called them and a certain employee named Tim tells me that it will take them 30 to 45 min to get my car ready(degreasing the engine because they could not figure out why and where from the engine oil is leaking). 15 minutes after 3 pm i called again asking for a ride because i work only 2 miles away from their location, because it was raining and because that wasn't the first time when they gave me a ride... Tim tells me that the guys have a half an hour lunch break and he'll give me a call as soon as they finish with that and someone we'll pick me up. i couldn't wait that much and after an hour of walking i arrived at their location only to see that they lied to me...the car wasn't ready and of course they dind't call me after half an hour as they said... goog luck with your experience in a place where some employees like Tim promote ignorance and dissrespect !!! read more

I recently had my brakes replaced at Firestone of Skokie. I probably should have went to my normal mechanics (who quoted me $50 CHEAPER than Firestone), but I opted to have my brakes done closer to work for convenience. The routine brake job then caused my emergency brake to stick and warp the drums. I took my car back when I realized the problem in which case they informed that it wasn't their fault even though my car simply needed brake pads when I took it there. I know this because I had my normal mechanics check it out earlier that day. They proceeded to argue with me that they didn't even have to touch the e-brake cable to change the rear brakes. I may not be a mechanic, but last I checked the brakes were attached to the brakes therefore at some point they would have HAD to at least touch it. I also don't appreciate the fact that they spoke down to me since apparently being female means I couldn't have any knowledge of basic car mechanics. Way to go Firestone! Now if I can ever get through to the corporate office, I'll be filing a complaint. read more
