Terrible service. My regular mechanic is in Philadelphia where I live normally, I came home to Glenview due to corona. I love my regular guy back in Philly and he had let me know last time I went in I needed to get the brakes replaced soon, when I asked for a quote he said it would be about $200. I'll be driving back to Philly and need to get that taken care of before that long drive. Before I even brought my car in to Hillerichs I explained what work I needed done and asked for a quote which they would not provide for me. Red flag number one. I scheduled a time to bring my car in for the brake replacement and oil change. A few hours later they called me with a laundry list of other "issues" I should get fixed, none of which my regular mechanic had brought up. Red flag number two. They then told me that it was going to cost $450 to replace just my front brake pads plus an extra $200 to clean some rust off the back brake pads (the were elusive and not helpful in teaching me when I asked for an explanation of the danger of this rust). A simple search on groupon reveals that there are a myriad of other mechanics within a 30 mile radius that will replace front brakes for around $200. Red flag number three. I literally laughed and told them no way. I asked how much the oil change would be ($40) and then they asked ME what oil my car uses. Maybe I should be a more informed car owner but surely the mechanic should know what kind of oil to use. After all this it took them a full day to perform the oil change. When I did go to pick up my car I was hit with a $40 "inspection fee". On the very bill they handed with me, they wrote "customer says brake pads are worn down and also needs oil change." In the "inspection notes" they wrote (not exact quote) "brake pads are worn down, rear brake oads are rusted, oil change needs to be done." So they charged me $40 for me to tell them what was wrong with my car. Huge waste, will not be returning. read more

Without a doubt, the most trustworthy Car Care center around. Tim (the manager) and his crew are not only kind, professional, and accommodating, but they spit in the face of every stereotype about thieving mechanics. When my transmission died on my Pontiac, I bought a used Honda. Within the first month of having my new car, I noticed some transmission problems arising and went to HIllerich's immediately. After taking a look at it, Tim suggested that I march right back in to my dealership and demand that they replace my transmission for free since I hadn't even put 1000 miles on it yet. So I went back to Castle Honda and accused them of selling it to me knowing it had this problem and that they had to replace it - and they did! Hillerich's could have made a small fortune for replacing my transmission themselves, but they didn't. They actually looked out for MY best interest! Shortly after that, my husband was due for his 30,000 mile check up on his Jeep he had purchased at Field's. He called Fields to find out how much he was going to have to spend and they quoted him at $900.00. He then called Hillerich's for a quote on the same services and it was about $400 cheaper. When my boyfriend told them what the dealership was going to charge him, Hillerich's replied "well, we like to sleep at night." Now living in the city, I still go up to Glenview to Hillerich's for any repair I need, and I feel comfortable and confident every time that I am not getting taken advantage of. Everyone has it right thus far. This place is honest and will not try to upsell you into something you don't need. If you want to get ripped off there are lots of other places out there (Jiffy Lube about 1/2 mile away) that will take advantage of you, but not Hillerich's. There's a reason they're celebrating 35 years. I have taken my cars to this place for at least 10 of their 35 years because they do good work and they do not rip you off. They will always squeeze you in, give you a ride, and if you make arrangements, lend you their loaner car. Typically I get my oil changed here, but occasionally something else comes up. Every time I have brought it here they have found the problem, given me an estimate and performed excellent work on my car. They fixed things that I thought would be expensive, at a very cheap and reasonable price. They are close to my work and always open. And what place still has a free air pump outside? I love it, just wish they had some hand wipes next to it, but I can deal. read more

So $40 to patch a tire with a hole from the inside. Silly me for not researching before agreeing to this fix- upon further research as I sit here getting my tire patched for $40 - discount tires will fix your tire for free regardless of you bought it from them (advertised on their website), Sam's Club will also do the same for their members and Walmart runs cheap and will fix the tire for you for free if you bought it from them. If you want only a plug-it'll run you $20 here; the mechanic deterred me from this though. The reviews had me optimistic, I'm scared to figure out how much they would actually charge for real mechanic troubles if it's costing $40 for a tire patch. So I got a discount - $34.50 rather than $40. I still feel ripped off unfortunately, but I appreciate the gesture. Upped my review to 2 stars, from 1 star. Recently, after returning from a Caribbean vacation, I discovered that I had two flat tires. I have done business with Hillerich's in the past and have ALWAYS been satisfied. I called them. They sent a service truck to my home, cleared the snow off my vehicle, and followed me back to their service station. The service was excellent, polite, inexpensive, and fast. Previously, The Honda dealer had informed me that nothing was wrong with my tires despite me taking the vehicle there on 2 occasions. Hillerich's found the problem immediately: a leaking rim, and a screw in the other tire. They repaired my tires and I was on my way. I highly recommend them. They have always been EXCELLENT in their work and customer service. read more

I wish I could give more stars. I had a flat tire yesterday morning and was on the way to a very important interview. I stopped at Hillerich's Car Care (and, of course you can get gas) in Glenview because I desperately needed air for a tire. When I got there and started filling up the tire (for free!!) nothing was happening. I usually would not bother the person inside, but, like I said, I was desperate. I sucked it up and went in. What happened next was amazing. There was a man at the front desk speaking on the phone. He ended his conversation and asked what he could do for me. I told him I was having problems with filling up my tire......and that I had lost the cap. This lovely man came outside, tried to fill the tire for me, said that maybe he needed to grab another hose. He then went into his shop and grabbed another hose, hooked it up and did some other things that I would not have known to do. He filled my tire, made sure that all tires were fine and then said that he was sure he had a cap for me. (I realize it is not a big deal to have a cap, but to be so kind as to help a person for free is not something I see everyday) . Next, his very nice associate came outside (at this point, I should tell you it was 7 degrees) and put the cap on for me and told me I was all set. I had cash in my hand for his associate to give to this guy who helped me, but they absolutely would not take it. I know this may not seem like a big deal to most, but it sure was to me. This showed me that there are still people out there that are just good human beings. This gesture restores my faith in humanity. Unfortunately, I did not even get this lovely person's name. If you are ever near the Hillerich's in Glenview (602 Greenwood Rd) go there. They are the best and will take care of you. read more

Great, honest guys and fantastic service! I got my first car a couple years ago and started taking it here since this was my sister's place and she said they were good and trustworthy people. Well they are. Having it be my first and not knowing much about cars I was extremely relieved to find such patient, honest experts right away. My first time here, they sat down with me, explained everything they saw, ranked things that needed to be done in importance, and welcomed any and all questions I had and gave me the time I needed to understand and make decisions. I had two cars that needed repairs, so I thought I would try them after they answered my questions when I stopped by. I had a 2008 Chevy Malibu with non working windshield wipers (wiper motor was replaced 6 months earlier at an out of state mechanic) - and a 2004 Honda Civic with an oil leak. Although we originally thought it was the wiper motor, once they took the old one off the mechanic was able to replace a locknut(?) that was not installed properly from the previous repair and saved me some $$$ The Civic leak was quickly diagnosed and fixed at a very reasonable price. This is by far the best auto shop I have ever been to in my life. I've been coming here for about 4 years now, and would never go anywhere else. Patrick and Tim are both exceptional, and will go above and beyond standard service to make sure you are not left stranded. They are extremely honest, their prices are very competitive, and are just so great to work with. Obviously, nobody likes dealing with car problems or repair costs, but these guys really make a bad situation as painless as possible. Most times they offer a free loaner vehicle to use while getting your vehicle serviced (if available) which is a lifesaver, and never try to "sell" repair work that isn't really needed. called to get a quote for a used tire and exchange. The Guy on the phone quotes me $45 JUST FOR THE TIRE and a little less for additional labor. Are you kidding? He wasn't friendly at all like the some of the other ratings suggested and $80 to get a used tire and $120 for a new one is just mind-blowing. An HONEST car care place!! We are so dumb they could have taken advantage of us dozens of times when we've brought our beater car in there and they have taken the greatest care of it, extending its life and saving us money. They are just wonderful. We have a car that is burned up on the inside, dented and a mess on the outside, way over 100k miles that our son drives... they have kept it unbelievably road-worthy way past its time and we are grateful and happy. Additionally, when they could have sold us break pads and other expensive fixes, they have been honest about a stick caught in our wheels, etc. so that we have only had to pay a few dollars to set things right. These guys are great and I would recommend them heartily!! read more

This is the first honest mechanic I've ever been too. Usually when I have an oil change, I brace myself for the 500-1000 dollars worth of belts and fluids that need to be replaced or flushed. I know that I probably don't need them, but I don't know enough about cars to tell if it's all a scam or only some of it is. However, I recently had an oil change at Hillerich's and I was flabbergasted to find out that there is nothing wrong with my car and an oil change is all I need. Amazing! read more

What a pleasure to do business with the folks who run Hillerich's Car Care at 602 Greenwood Road. The four tech's I have met there are all cordial, pleasant and seem eager to help. I have met Two Tim's, Patrick and Bob. My car needed an idle air control value several months back and they put the part on. It had been working for about 6 months and failed. They promptly ordered another air control valve and replaced it free under their warranty. No charge at all to me, not even for labor. My son took his 2006 Chevy Silverado pickup truck here because the engine light was on and he needed repairs in order to pass emissions testing. He'd taken his truck to another car place in Glenview that repaired it, but it still wouldn't pass emissions. Hillerich's service guys fixed the problem at a very reasonable price, took the truck to be tested, and it passed. Bottom line, my son wasted hundreds of dollars going to another place when he should have started (and ended) @ Hillerich. Highly recommended to anyone with a vehicle that has an engine light on. read more

I have been using Hillerich's Car Care (Central & Greenwood) for about 8 years. Tim Curran's team of technicians are very efficient, and do an excellent job troubleshooting complex issues. I believe the shop rate is ~$85/hr, which is very competitive for the area. They are also very good service advisers, indicating when a repair isn't worth the cost on an older vehicle. Perhaps the highest compliment I can give is that they are have proven to be trustworthy time and time again. read more

As a woman customer I was treated with respect, I appreciate that I can bring my car to a place that I can trust and receive help right away. Absolutely love this place. My family has been coming here for years now, and they've always gone above and beyond. I recently had to take my car in for windshield replacement. They got me in a couple days later and got the job done quickly. There was a problem with the windshield (had some odd defect/wavy distortion) and they were quick to fix and replace the windshield, no questions asked. The third party source must have installed my wipers incorrectly, which Hillerich's (specifically Patrick) was able to take in and get corrected quickly. The only place I'll take my car! My family and I have been using them for 10+ years and l never go anywhere else. I recently took my car in and they found that my transmission was in need of major repair (very pricey). They went totally above and beyond and did research on my make and models warranty and found that I could bring it to my dealership and be covered under a particular extended warranty. I drive 45 minutes to them now for all my service because I know I can trust them to do an excellent job always! read more

The only reason this place is getting one star is because it won't let me give them none. This place is a rip off and they are con artists. They lie to their elderly customers who trust them and tell them that they need things for their car that they don't. Then they over charge them on top of making money for doing needless repairs!!!
