Firm Hands came highly recommended from a friend and I, in turn, highly recommend them to you! I have been intensely working from home for a full year and I also regularly practice yoga. Together, these things have resulted very a tense back and a lot of shoulder pain. As soon as I walked in, Jonathan was able to spot the issues I was having, before I said anything. Just received my first massage from Jonathan and it was phenomenal. It's been a very long time since my last massage b/c of pandemic restrictions, and it was one of the very first things I scheduled post-vaccination. Teaching via Zoom at a desk for a year has taken a real toll on my body, and in the space of an hour, Jonathan was able to provide so much relief to my upper body. I have been needing a massage but I was little apprehensive about getting one since it had been such a long time since my last one. I called Johnathan for a consultation. He was so polite and answered any questions I had with no problem. I had my first session with Johnathan today and it was amazing!! The location had such a soothing ambience, it didn't take long for me to get over my nervousness. The room was clean and smelled of lemon grass and essential oil candles. He was warm, funny and professional. He told me what he was doing as he worked each section. He also gave me tips on stretches I should do to lossen my tight muscles and recommended shoes that would help with my sore feet. Afterwards I felt so much lighter, I wanted to fall asleep right there on the table! His hands were truly tools of healing and I am thankful. This was the first session of many to come! read more

TW: abusive conduct. My experiences here went from 10/10 wonderful to traumatized and "never coming back." I'm deeply disturbed and disappointed. I left a more detailed review on Google, but in short, Jonathan's professonalism degraded over time in conversation and conduct. My last session was truly my last: I went in asking for my shoulders and elbow to be worked on (I have a shoulder injury). After working a bit on my shoulders and noticing I had lower back tightness, Jonathan manipulated the session to focus on my glutes, groin, and tailbone, deciding to give me a "coccyx adjustment" which was a radical far cry from what I wanted or needed. I didn't know what this adjustment was, but as he was doing it, he told me about another client who loved it and how he had it done on himself once in his youth, as if to rationalize the action of working on the "butt." This adjustment consisted of pushing his finger hard and prolonged underneath my tailbone, close to my anus without the sheet in-between -- I was afraid I was about to be severely physically assaulted at any second, and like in many abusive situations, I was stunned and too panicked to say "stop." What kind of therapist justifies this as the "go to" for lowerback tightness? Why not just massage the lowerback? And no, I didn't feel any relief in my lower back, I only left feeling bruised and violated. With the goal of the session being to rehabilitate my shoulder, I'm appalled by this kind of grooming behavior, getting me to accept work on areas further and further away from my shoulder. If you have any apprehensions about trust, do not come here. As much as Firm Hands helped my injury in the beginning (the early sessions focused on JUST my shoulder - and it worked, imagine that), I won't return. read more

I struggled with knots in my shoulder and back that were causing pinched nerves and a lot of pain. I couldn't continue working out and I felt at a loss. Jonathan was welcoming and professional, and EXTREMELY helpful and effective. Let me tell you, Firm Hands has a solid 5-star rating FOR A REASON. I started coming in weekly about a month ago because of a decade of pain and stiffness in my neck, shoulders, and back. They definitely have a homier feel than corporate places like Massage Envy. I had Shannon for my first appointment and spoke heavily on how frequently I throw my neck out and how uncomfortable I've been with my tight shoulders. I've had 4 weekly appointments now and I am so relieved at how she has worked out over a decade of knots all over my back. It's incredible. I feel like years worth of tension is finally gone from my back and shoulders and I feel so much lighter. You can literally see a difference in my upper back and the back of my neck, there was literally so much stiff tense muscle there that she just worked right out. I definitely intend on visiting regularly; after getting my back massage by Shannon I feel almost loopy and high and have a tough time standing up without feeling like I may fall over (all in a good way). I went in expecting a basic Swedish or deep tissue massage, with hopefully some nice pressure, and general relaxation. Just the basics. I was greeted by Jonathan, the owner and massage therapist. He looked pretty strong, so I thought this would be a decent massage. I work a 9-5 desk job, but I make sure to get a work out in at least 4 days a week, and complete a long run over the weekend. I do what I can to stay healthy, but I always have this nagging pain in my neck and back. Jonathan and I discussed my areas of concern and massage preferences. He then provided a massage/stretching session (that is the only way I can think to describe it) unlike any other massage I have had. It was interactive (minor movements and repositioning on my end), and not what I would typically expect for a massage. I usually fall asleep while someone rubs lotion on my back. Although this was not the typical Swedish or deep tissue massage, it exceeded my expectations!!! In the days following the massage, I actually felt better and more flexible. Jonathan is the most knowledgeable massage therapist I've ever seen and I've seen my share. He's able to diagnose and predict my pain just from looking at my standing position and he's always been right. I feel completely comfortable with him as a woman who doesn't always feel comfortable with mail service providers. Luckily, Jonathan was able to get me in no more than two hours later same day. Not only was the massage targeted to my needs and professional, tension relieving and relaxing... But he had a great energy, personality and knowledge for his profession. There is nothing more awkward than getting massaged for 60 minutes by someone who makes you feel uncomfortable. I visited Firm Hands for the second time last week, and had an amazing experience. I had previously gone for a deep tissue massage with another masseuse and left feeling like it was the best and most satisfying massage I had experienced to date, but my sports massage with Jonathan last week was even better. I was pretty sore and had a specific point in my back that felt pinched and had been bothering me for months, along with noticeably decreased mobility in my neck over the past few months. After chatting with Jonathan, he recommended the sports massage which included stretching and I was so glad I took his recommendation. He was incredibly gentle, but I could feel circulation improving and muscles releasing tension as he worked on me. I am a carpenter by trade and I work in the heavy construction business. I always have tools hanging from my hips and this causes a lot of tension to accumulate in the muscles around my hips and my lower back. My experience was incredible. My fiancé had surprised me by booking a session with Johnathan because he noticed how much pain I was in. For a few days I was in pain for some reason and experiencing back spasms while at work. Usually, they would just go away but as of recent, they were not. There was a pain in particular that truly made me feel uncomfortable and it felt like a knot right underneath my right shoulder blade. My fiancé would usually massage that area in my back and then it would go away, but this time it actually got swollen. Luckily, my fiancé booking Johnathan saved me from another how many days of experiencing that pain and restless sleeping.
