I love Marina and her staff. She's as helpful and as honest as they come, and she knows what she's talking about! I recently bought a shirt online that was way too large. The only smaller sizes available were at a store that was about an hour away from me, so I took it in to ask Marina if she could make it work. I LOVED the shirt but didn't have time to drive to get it way out in the middle of nowhere. She told me she couldn't make it work, but that she had a friend who worked at that mall and she could have her go pick it up. SO SHE DID. And THEN she went and met up with the friend to pick it up for me. FOR FREE, you guys. How crazy nice is that? Another time I took a dress in to have it altered and she literally just tied it in a different way, and it fit perfectly. No cost, no nothing. Just helpful. I am beyond impressed by First Class Tailors. Marina was absolutely amazing. She is so meticulous and dedicated to her craft. I brought in a pair of LuLu lemon pants that were ripped and she immediately sewed them by hand and fixed it on the spot. It only took 5 minutes while I waited. I came in to get a dress for my brothers wedding altered because it is too long. I'm leaving next week and she is rushing it so that I have it in time for the wedding. She is so detail oriented that she is having me bring in the shoes I will be wearing so it is the perfect length. She didn't just put pins in it carelessly. The customer service is something that I have not experienced in so long. It really is first class. They treat their customers like friends and while I was there, I met multiple people who have been going in there for years and only go there for any alterations. I will definitely be back and already recommended a friend who needs her wedding dress altered because I know how much Marina cares and that she will make sure it is done properly and looks fantastic. I'm short. Not Mayor of Munchkin Land short, but shorter than the amazons the jeans people make their jeans for. In fact, if I found a good tailor, I could probably make another pair of jeans out of the scraps they cut off of mine when I get them hemmed. Well, sort of. I'd also have to get some lipo to even out my thigh and calf circumferences. And that's a little more LA than I think is necessary. I'll keep all my fat, thank you. I'll even name it. Braised short ribs. Flourless chocolate cake. Visit to Seattle. I turn to my thighs and say, "I love you Seattle and chocolate cake!" Maybe I'll just make jeans sleeves. Yeah, that's hot. It's really damn difficult to find a good tailor. But today, I picked my jeans up from a really funny, smart, personality-full lady named Marina who knows her stuff. Marina is the face of First Class Tailors. A few weeks ago, I walked into her shop with a brand new pair of Seven jeans. She refused to tailor them until I washed them in HOT water and dried them on HIGH. She was adamant. I even got a pretty long lecture on the stretching and shrinking behaviors of the various jeans brands out there. This woman knows her stuff. So I took them home, washed them, and came back. I opted for the original hem for $25, as opposed to the regular hem that's only $10. They did an amazing job! You really can't tell that they've been hemmed. Because she is completely and utterly convinced that the jeans will shrink, she hemmed them a little long. They're just barely skimming the ground when I'm wearing heels. But if she's right, and I have no doubt that she is, after they shrink a bit they're going to be perfect. I really dig this lady. She's funny, outspoken, and she's an expert in her field. Update to prior review: I brought some more sportcoats and jackets in recently. I think w/ the increased business she is either outsourcing or getting sloppy. Basically I had a sportcoat altered by her and she wanted $90 to take in the back. This is higher than other places where it typically is ~ $50-60 (and more than what she has charged me in the past), but i went with it b/c she has done well on my suits previously. When I picked it up, the sportcoat appeared minimally altered with the back taken in maybe 2 inches. This was also only done in the mid portion rather than the length of the back, which would be expected for that price, in order to preserve the proportion of the coat. Worst of all, after I got home, I noticed rolls under the collar that weren't there before. I brought it back (in her defense, Marina was not there) but the other employees basically blew me off saying that I needed to simply iron the sportcoat. This is ridiculous as any tailor knows that rolls are caused by misappropriate pulling of the fabric, which was probably caused in this case by how the back was taken in. To correct this, I brought it to another Yelp friendly tailor, who immediately recognized the problems with the coat. He took the back in (again) and fixed the fabric roll. The sportcoat is now where I want it to be but it is kind of silly that I needed to bring it to two tailors back to back to get it done. On the jackets, she shortened the sleeves but the job was also sloppy. There were loose threads when the work was done and the prior stitching was highly visible with minor tearing, which looks like something I could have had my dry cleaners do. Annoying to say the least, considering this was on a mainline prorsum jacket that is supposed to be indestructible but they managed to screw up the fabric. I'll admit she did good work on my stuff in the past, but this was a total disaster of a job and the attitude of her staff made things much worse than they should have been. Marina is fabulous. Here are the highlights: 1) Marina is honest. If something looks mediocre, she tells you. If she can't fix it to make it perfect, she tells you. Rule #1: Don't take the tags off of new items on something that may need tailoring until you consult Marina first. 30% of the time, she'll tell you to save your money and take it back. 2) She notices everything. A must in a great tailor. 3) She is super plugged into fashion and brands. This is helpful when she knows your body type and can tell you "X brand will fit you better." or "Y just came out with an amazing ____ that will look perfect on you." 4) Prices are fair and work is done well. 5) She works with a lot of high end stuff. Like WAY high end. So you don't need to be afraid of taking your expensive pieces here. 6) Marina is fun. She has a great personality and clearly has a LOT of devoted customers. I don't even know where to begin...coming here is like an adventure!!!! My fiancee and I came here on his cousin's recommendation, because he needed a couple of his suits tailored. Noah and I trust his opinion because this man is extremely picky and he would not go just anywhere to get his precious suits tailored! First Class Tailors is a small, but fully functioning tailoring shop, it's great! For being a smaller shop, it is really neat and well lit...very good lighting. I don't know why, but apparently good lighting is appealing to me! I also really enjoyed the full length three way mirror towards the back of the shop. This is where Marina conducts her magic!!!! There is this round step thingy that is in front of the mirrors, so, you can get a proper look at the finished product! On to the next, Marina!!! If I am not mistaken, she is the owner of First Class Tailors. She is AMAZING!!!! I loved her, and so did my fiancee! She is very informative and knows her schizzle! Her honest, non-apologetic attitude was refreshing and very well needed in the tailoring business. What Noah (fiancee) liked about Marina was that he didn't need to tell her what he wanted done, because everything he wanted to point out she was pointing to herself! We dropped off his suits on Saturday and picked them up one week later. For the amount of work she had to do, we thought that was a fair amount of time. Noah's suits ended up being a bit on the pricier side, but that was only because Marina had to take a lot in...totally worth it though! His suits came out looking incredible on his figure :). A great tailor is the key to looking polished, and Marina is a fantastic tailor with an awesome personality to boot. I love her! Her work is superb, and she has a great eye for what looks good on you. If she tells you it doesn't work on you -- believe her and be thankful -- not many people in this world will be that honest with you (in fear of hurting your feelings)! Go to her, trust what she says, and you'll look amazing in whatever you wear. Make sure you bring the shoes (and ladies -- bring your undergarments) that you're going to wear with your outfit. Why? Shoes not only change the length of your legs, but in particular, heels give your butt a nice lift which changes how fabric drapes on your body. Ladies -- I don't think I have to explain why you should bring the bra you will be wearing with your dress/blouse! Marina can also work wonders with those dresses that you need one of those special bras for. If it's backless or strapless -- bring it in to Marina for a consult before you go shop for that new bra. She may be able to save you the trouble. If you're bringing in a new pair of dry clean only pants, make sure you dry clean them BEFORE you come to Marina. And make sure you wash those brand new jeans in hot water and dry them in the dryer on high heat before bringing them in (I know this goes against all denim care instructions). Went there based on a recommendation and learned it would take one week to hem two pairs of slacks. I asked if I could get them in four days and she said sorry, we are way too busy. I left. The Good & the Bad: the good: she didn't bump me in front of all the other clients who have dropped off stuff before me and the place did appear to be very clean and neat. As another reviewer mentioned, they do have nice changing rooms with proper doors. the bad: it was my first time there. i'm not asking for complicated tailoring, just hem two pairs of slacks, not jeans with original bottoms, slacks! even after I told her this was my first time there that i was a new customer based on a referral she said "i'm sorry" with a very i could care less attitude. if that's how a new customer is treated, i'm thinking long term can't be good! Personally, if they are that busy during the worst economic times since the great depression, hire some people to help out! A week turn around time for hemming two pairs of slacks is unacceptable! DO NOT TAKE YOUR JEANS OR DESIGNER CLOTHES HERE These tailors are terrible at handling expensive fabric. I took my favorite pair of jeans here to get a hole patched up. After reading the reviews on yelp I fully trusted them to do a great job, however I was SO wrong. THEY MANAGED TO TEAR A NEW HOLE IN MY JEANS!! The first patch job they did was terrible, they sewed along the patch so that it showed on the outside of my jeans, meaning there was an awkward square stitch right on the crotch area - not somewhere I want attention at. Then when they were trying to remove the patch so I could take my jeans elsewhere to have them fixed, they tore a new hole! How does someone even do that??? I am completely appalled by this place and will never bring anything I own here again. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I discovered this shop on Yelp about 8 months ago and the reviews are all true. Marina is top notch, and has a keen eye for detail. She's done a number of different items for me, including suits, dress shirts, more casual button-down shirts, slacks, and jeans. Given that I have (or had?) a typical guy's lack of knowledge on fashion, I hadn't the slightest clue on what to buy or what I needed to get fixed. Thankfully, she's very willing to give advice on what to buy, where to buy it, and what to avoid. Things to know: 1. They only accept cash. 2. It's probably not going to be cheap unless you're going in for something simple. 3. Expect to be upsold if your clothes are straight off the rack. I don't mean upsold with a negative connotation either--she just has very impressive attention to detail and will probably notice things you don't. I almost always take her advice, and I haven't regretted it. read more

Marina is my fairy godmother in tailoring!!! As a 5"7 Asian female with a smaller frame and a larger bust, its impossible for me to find any thing that fits well and most things need to be tailored. As you know, it is extremely difficult to find a reputable establishment you can trust with higher end clothing so I was thrilled to come across Marina and her business. She's extremely honest about what needs to be tailored and what doesn't. Her recommendations are always extremely flattering as well. And yes, she won't make an adjustment she disagrees with which I highly value and respect her for this. Honestly, leave it to the opinion of a professional tailor because they know best how the piece will fit as you move and stretch. And you can definitely trust this woman! Marina also gave great advice on brands to shop at that will fit my body type. I first came to see Marina while I was in college looking to tailor my suit from BR for a job interview. You always put on what you want tailored and she pins up the areas that needs changes made. Her recommendations that made my suit look so much sharper. She taught me the simple trick of un- stitching and tucking in the jacket pocket flaps, which I do to all my jackets now. She also added in a metal clasp inside my shirt to help avoid those awkward gaps between buttons where your bra is showing, another must add for most of my shirts. Lastly, she took in my pants so they hugged my waist perfectly without looking inappropriate for a corporate setting. It wasn't cheap but marina and the quality of her work is definitely worth it. Marina knew I was on a college budget so every change we made was necessary. And guess what, I got the job and am pretty sure looking sharp helped. I came back recently with a Theory suit as I am about to start my new job. Per marinas recommendation, I picked it up at the theory outlet for an more affordable price and it fits my body type really well. The pants are just longer as usual since they expect you to hem it. As I showed her my suit, marina told me to dry clean it first since pants usually shrinks a little bit and that might just be the length needed. She told me to come back after that if its necessary. Wow, what a honest woman. Marina is all about making you look your best and not simply profiting off of you. Anyways, I can't compliment marina and her business enough. I'm about to move to Chicago but I'll be sure to bring my alteration needs back to Marina whenever I'm in LA to visit my family. read more

Marina and company took amazing care of me when I needed my new suit massively tailored for med school interviews, even though they were all out sick for multiple days. They'd told me to pick-up Tuesday morning, but Monday morning I got a call from Marina saying there might be a slight delay. When I mentioned the reason for my firm deadline, she made my suit a priority and it was ready Tuesday as originally planned. During a very stressful time in my life, I appreciated that so much. The work was on time and spotless, and Marina gave me some great advice on what to wear, as well as someone's discarded fancy garment bag that I was able to use to keep my suit crisp while traveling. Good tailoring sure ain't cheap, but I looked and felt fantastic on interview day. As I've told several friends, it was the first time I didn't feel like a kid playing "dress up" in somebody else's suit. I'll definitely be back! read more

I wish I could give 50 stars here! Marina is the best tailor I've ever found, and my own mom is a seamstress. Marina isn't out for your money like other tailors who will just do what you tell them. If something doesn't look good and can't be saved with some alterations, Marina will suggest you to return it. If something is going to cost too much, she tries to offer alternative, more-affordable alterations. If something can't be returned nor saved, Marina will be honest, unlike other tailors who will charge you for an alteration that won't look good or won't work for you. She'll even tell you how to wear something if she thinks it doesn't need fixing afterall. A lot of people commented about pricing being higher, but as someone extremely petite who has had to tailor almost every piece of clothing ever bought, I think this is an incorrect judgment. I used to go to the tailor at my cleaner's as well as a tailor shop, both of which were in the valley where EVERYTHING is cheaper. Certain alterations were slightly cheaper than Marina's (i.e. taking in the waist or tapering jeans), but EVERY other alteration was more expensive. Marina has fixed a bridesmaid dress, several dresses, blazers, jeans, shorts, pants, and tops for me. All of them ultimately came out cheaper and far better than if I had gone to the other tailors. Anyway, even if I had to pay a premium, it would be worth it because I know Marina's alterations will come out perfectly. If you're looking for a tailor who will do what you tell her so she can take your money, this is not the place. read more

So I have two experiences here so far, and I've been very happy with both. 1. I brought a very expensive, special suit in for alterations. I had a very specific idea of how I wanted it to fit, and they took all my measurements on the jacket and pants. I didn't have the shoes I was going to wear with the suit on-hand. I got the sleeves shortened, the sides taken in, and the double vent at the back slimmed. When I came back to try on the altered suit, it fit perfectly. Excellent. 2. I bought the shoes that I was going to wear with the suit and brought them back into the shop along with my pants because I thought they fell funny around my shoes. Right away they knew it didn't look right, and did the alteration adjustment for FREE. I then mentioned that I'd be flying out of the country 4 days later and needed them back before then. They had the pants ready 2 hours later that same day. Will definitely be taking all my clothing here in the future for alterations. read more

Finally! I have tried one alterations place after another for literally 20 years, and never been satisfied...until now. If you're a perfectionist like me, you know how hard it is to bring something you love in to be altered. A Christmas Miracle! I thought I needed a new zipper on my leather coat. The estimate at another place was around $100.00 with a waiting time that would have been well past my departure date for Canada this winter. She made him go buy another collared shirt to go with his jacket because she knew it would look better. #163 One thing I like about Seven jeans are their styles and fit. One thing I hate about Sevens are the fact that they only have a waist size - as opposed to a waist & inseam (at least the ones I've bought). As a result, I always end up with jeans that are too long, and rolling them up just doesn't cut it. Not only are Marina and her folks friendly, but they're also very good at what they do. Personally, I've only had three pairs of Sevens hemmed (two original, one regular) thus far, but I have now found my go-to tailor. She even remembered me by name after a couple visits! I thought that was cool. In general, there's a few things you should do before taking jeans to get hemmed - no matter where you decide to go: 1. Wash and dry the jeans at least once. I generally do the inside out cold water thing. 2. Bring a pair of shoes you plan to wear with the jeans. 3. I'd also suggest bringing in a pair of jeans where you do like the length for comparison. 4. Tell the tailor the look you're trying to go for - in my experience, it helps them. The parking lot is a little tight, as the spots are pretty narrow. There are also limited spaces because most of the lot is managed by the valet service. If all else fails, you can probably find a metered spot on Wilshire - hasn't happened to me yet. As mentioned by some, the only negative is that FCT are relatively expensive. I've gone to other tailors in the past where service has been dismal and the end product just didn't come out the way I wanted. If it means getting it right, I'm willing to pay and support such a business. read more

Marina won't always tell you what you want to hear, but she will tell you the truth -- and she looks out for your best interests. She also saved me more than $200 on a dress. I took a dress (my bridesmaid dress for my sister's wedding) to her a few weeks ago since it needed a lot of alterations. I'd already taken it to another tailor and bought 2 different undergarments to try with it. Nothing was working right. Marina pinned it up, and it looked great, but then she suggested -- rather, insisted -- that I try a smaller size since she thought it would fit, and my alterations would be less. Well, I wasn't thrilled about buying a second $180 dress, but she was right. I went from needing more than $70 in alterations to needing about $30, and I did away with the $60 undergarment, too, since she was able to sew in a bra. So I've already saved about $100, when I go to pick up my dress for the final time and she tells me that someone else brought in the same dress from Ross that she bought for $50. Now, I was a bit upset to hear this since I'd spent so much money on this dress already, but she told me to contact Macy's and see about getting the price adjusted. I didn't even realize you could actually do that, but you can -- and I saved another $130, as did the other bridesmaids. I'll definitely be going back. read more

She has a very good eye for proportion and is very honest in what kind of alterations are possible and what are not. I'm so lost without this place. Ever since I moved back to San Francisco a big gaping hole in my life is my tailor! Marina tells you how it is. I've brought in clothes just to ask her opinion on fit. She has refused to hem some of my jeans because she says it's already the perfect length. She's rarely ever wrong even if her upfront personality takes some getting used to. Haha, it's funny--because I actually ended up trying out the other place my roommate went to and absolutely loved them, despite it being crowded and small (crowded had to do with the time of day, can't do anything about it being small but all the helpful, available staff make it worthwhile) Anyways, I tried to come here during regular business hours to get a few items tailored only to find out that Marina wasn't there--things had gotten busy so she was only available for fittings between certain hours and the other times they were just open but you could only pick up. This was extremely frustrating and disappointing, which is why I ended up going to the other place--Rancho Tailors. I'm very picky about businesses being open when they say they are going to be open, as I hate taking the time to travel there only to find out that time has been wasted. Not sure if I'll end up back at Marina's again, since this experience has made me thinking she is unreliable. read more

I first visited First Class Tailors a little over two years ago and it continues to be the place I go to whenever I buy something new and want it to fit like it was made for ME. I've brought in suits, blazers, slacks, dress shirts, and regular everyday items and have left feeling like a million bucks each time. I've even had jackets/blazers completely restructured. Marina and her team are the best. If you want somebody that will just silently nod their head and agree with everything you say this isn't the place for you. One of the things that make Marina so awesome is her ability to be honest, helpful, funny, and frank all at the same time. If the garment you have can't be changed the way you want it she'll tell you. If the garment you have isn't worth spending the amount of money for the adjustments she'll tell you. Ultimately, the decision is up to you (of course) but it's comforting knowing that she's there to help and not just get paid for a service. As a man in Los Angeles (and one who works in entertainment) I always strive to look my best. It's empowering to know that I don't have to blow a ton of money on high priced items to look and feel great. It's all in the tailoring. I've been complimented several times on how great my clothes look and fit and I always smile, say thank you, and silently thank Marina. It was a pretty good experience. The shop is small but clean and tidy. The dressing rooms had actual doors, which is better than curtains, in my opinion. The tailor greeted me as I entered, which made it easier to talk to her and let her know that I wanted alterations. As my first time getting a shirt tailored, I wasn't quite sure what I was looking for in a tailor, but I was pleasantly surprised. She was very professional and helpful in figuring out what needed to be adjusted. I found it refreshing that she was so talkative and cheery in her comments about how to fix the shirt. Also, she notified me in advance that it would take exactly a week to complete. I thought I needed to shorten the sleeves, but it turns out, it was perfect already, which apparently saved me $25 automatically. So the final conclusion for my dress shirt was some darting on the back to give me some shape and tacking cuz I had that double cuff thing going on. The total came out to be $18, which isn't that bad at all. Plus, she provided a breakdown quote of the alterations so it was easy to see how much things cost, along with a tag to pick up the clothes when it was finished. When I got my shirt back, it fit exactly like how it was supposed to and I was really pleased. And because I'm picky, I wished they ironed the shirt cuz it was a bit wrinkly, but other than that, the service was great! The saga of ill-fitting bridesmaids dress is over! I had a dress that needed to be brought in at the boobs and had been to 2 other tailors who were not able to help me. One of them suggested I stuff it and recommended tissue, wow. So of course I yelped it and found 1st class tailors and my experience could not have been better! I brought in the dress and the bra and Marina said I can charge you $75 and redo the top of the dress or I can pin your bra to it. She pinned my bra to the dress while I waited gave me some double-sided tape and sent me on my way for FREE. update - 2019 and i'm still going here! Now she's moved on to editing the wardrobe for the stage in my life: bridesmaids dresses and several high end gowns, etc., and she never rushes you and pays great attention to detail in terms of what you want. I like buying things from people who like what they do. It's clear that Marnia likes what she does. She is passionate about her work, and it shows. Her goal is to make you look good, and she will. I brought in a DKNY suit I bought from Macy's. It was the first suit I'd bought since college, some 7 or 8 years ago, and that suit was a dud. I'm now finding myself looking for excuses to wear this suit, since I work in a jeans/t-shirt atmosphere, and tend to hang at kitchy coffee shops more than...I don't even know. Where the hell do people wear suits other than work? I need to find these places, because I look amazing in this suit. The only downside I can really think of is that her quality comes at a hefty cost. It cost me $150 to tailor this suit--jacket and pants. If you've got a $200 suit, I wouldn't recommend bringing it here, but if you're like me and only need one good suit, you should make it count and bring it here. read more

I went just went there to have a quick fix for my cycling short bib. The inner lining stitches have partially broken abovenhe crotch area towards the abdomen, it was small two 1 inch breaks. Holy Cats! These girls know how to hustle! I used to have Mondays off but my schedule has changed - I had to experience a busy Saturday at the tailor and they handled everyone like it was the Ritz Carleton. I think 6 people were taken care of in less than a half hour but with super professionalism. I saw 2 very petite women pick up winter coats that had been altered to fit their tiny frames, another guy who wanted his dress shirts cut down to fit his awesome body, as well as a woman who came in with a coat for altering only to be told it was too big and too boxy for her frame & told she should return it. If you want to be taken care of like family, go here. Currently I'm having suits altered for an art fair as well as a vintage christening gown made bigger for big baby boy.
