Female customers beware‼ I went in for a state inspection and failed because my tires were getting worn. What could have been around $300 at any other shop ended up being $917 to replace three tires for a normal sedan, not even anything fancy. How in the world these people got the idea to upcharge something by $600, I have no clue. The lady at the front desk, her name is Nicole, when she told me the price and I told her I'm going to take my car to another shop, she hung up the phone before the conversation even ended. I ended up doing just that, taking my car to another shop and only paid $387 for them to install three brand new all season tires. Again, this place was going to charge me $917 for this. By far, my experience with First Landing Auto Care Thoroughgood was the worst among any repair shop I have used in my adult life - period. They broke my car, refused to take ownership, set up a long list of barriers to agreeing to compensate, and once, complete, they did not compensate for damages. Specifics - A First Landing Auto Care mechanic, while performing a routine safety inspection, caused substantial damage to my Infiniti Q50's display control unit (DCU). Before taking it in, the car's display always worked. Immediately after they returned it, the DCU no longer functioned and would remain in that condition. After bringing the issue to the manager's attention, she asked me to take many steps before their shop would consider repairing the car or covering the damage they caused. The manager recommended I take my car to the Infiniti dealership to see if they could fix it (done), asked for a determination from Infiniti as to the cause (done), then she asked that I seek compensation from Infiniti (done). Ultimately, I received confirmation from an Infiniti mechanic and the service manager stating that First Landing very likely caused the damage, as well as confirmation that replacing the DCU was the only option to address the issue. The manager at First Landing then asked me to provide a repair quote. Once I had cleared all of these hurdles, she said she would speak to the owners who were (conveniently?) unreachable. She said she would get back to me that week and then never responded. Recommendations - Never use First Landing. If you do and they break something, don't fall for their slow roll techniques as I did. Bottom line, First Landing caused $3,978 in damage and then disappeared rather than taking ownership of the problem they caused. Never use or trust this dishonorable company. read more

This place was an absolute joke I agreed to the original pricing for them to provide me a quote on some repairs and then when I decided to take my vehicle elsewhere they try to charge me an additional amount for looking at my vehicle that I did not agree to. If you go here get a copy of that paper that you sign with the prices on it so that they cannot just write in whatever they see fit. When I brought up my concern to the "gentleman" that helped me. He instantly got very defensive and tried to talk down to me like I was an idiot. Took my wife's car in for an inspection. They said the right rear shock was blown. Not the case, I assume they noticed it was a woman's car and decided to try and get one over. There is nothing wrong with the shock at all, I have over 20 years mechanic experience and showed them that it wasn't busted yet they still wouldn't pass it. This business is worth more than 5 stars! Customer service is everything to me, and it's not always easy to find. I called at 8am after finding that a screw in my tire had been the culprit of a slow leak. Dave immediately took a look and let me know that it wasn't able to be patched, Mike jumped on the computer and found a replacement tire locally, and had it ordered within minutes. They put my donut on, sent me on my way, and called back at 3pm to let me know that the tire was mounted and to stop in to have it put on. Fair pricing, fast work, and top-notch customer service! Then they said my car failed because my front marker lights were out and said it would cost $86 to replace them. I asked why it would cost so much to change out TWO LIGHTBULBS and they replied with "the bumper has to be taken off so labor and the the bulbs are $10 a piece. They thought I was a fool so I declined and later looked through my car manual and found out all I had to do is pop my hood and reach in and pop my lights out (a simple twist and turn) and replace them. Not sure if the shady ones are the mechanics or all of them, but i wouldn't trust them.. went in for an inspection and i know enough about cars to know that they were trying to play me. Quoted me 2200 dollars on repair in order to "pass inspection." I took it to a different shop and got it approved with a couple minimal purchases. I even asked the other shop to look into the damage they said my car had, and they ran some extra tests and still said my cat was fine. This business likely fails state vehicle inspections on perfectly fine vehicles to pad their wallets with repair costs they tell customers must be made. The mechanics here are not great at assessing and fixing problems, they are more prone to unnecessarily replacing entire assemblies. Recently, they failed my vehicle state inspection for two reasons. They said the defroster did not blow hot enough air and that a headlight was working but loose. They quoted me $1,169 to repair these issues. This seemed excessive and did not have it repaired. I never noticed previous issues with my defroster or headlight. At home I tested my defroster and it worked fine. I then inspected the headlight. One of the screw heads in the assembly popped out of its plastic retainer causing one quarter of an inch of play in the headlight assembly. I noticed that by turning an adjustment screw, the screw head would tighten against the retainer again and the small bit of play would likely be gone. I returned to the shop to speak with the mechanic who inspected it, Jason. He could not explain how the defroster was working but still wasn't willing to pass it because the tiny movement in the headlight was a "serious safety hazard". He said it caused the headlight to shine off the road (a ridiculous claim). I asked him to tighten the adjustment screw to see if that would bring it to his liking. He replied he was not comfortable trying that and the only thing he could do was order and replace the entire light assembly for $230. I then spoke to Lisa, who referred me to David when I asked for the manager. They both refused to take a second look at my situation or admit to the insanity that was taking place. They stated it was out of their hands and they could do nothing for me but the repairs they quoted me. Sidestepping the responsibility of THEIR MECHANIC was a sign to me something was not right. The next day I tightened the adjustment screw in the headlight assembly, which did fix it, then took it to a different auto shop for inspection. It passed without a problem. At the worse, this business fails mandatory state inspections to prompt customers to pay ridiculous repair costs on things that are not even broken! At the best, this shop's mechanics are incompetent and not willing to do actual repairs such as tightening loose screws! For these reasons I will no longer be taking my two vehicles to this location and I advise others to steer clear of this establishment. Although I cannot prove it, this shop could be using the state inspection to intentionally exploit military customers. Without a current state inspection sticker, military members are denied access to local bases where they must work, making them an easy target. At the time, I had base stickers on my vehicle and have since taken them off so as not to advertise I'm in the military. read more

This is a very belated review, but I still have to come rave about this place. Never before have I gone to an auto shop who cared more about getting my car fixed correctly and quickly above anything else. My husband and I had to take his car in several times over the course of a month because we just have awful luck with cars. First Landing got our car in very quickly every single time, and they were incredibly flexible with our weird schedule when we couldn't pick up the car for a couple of days. They also really seemed to care that the car was fixed properly and they put a lot of work into our car that most places would not have! Their pricing is incredibly fair, and every single person that works there is so friendly and helpful. We honestly couldn't say enough nice things about them. Not a big reviewer but thought it was important this time. Asked FLACT for a diagnosis of ongoing electrical issue. I had already run a voltage test on my own and was seeking confirmation. I was not asking for an extensive analysis of all other components ......ie. not a state inspection, which they did perform in April. $166 later I have basically a repeat of the info from April and a fee for shop use. Car wouldn't start after my husband did some work on it. Got it towed to get it looked at. Not even an hour after they got it, we got a call saying the car needed a new engine due to the crank spinning. Got the car towed back to my house the next day. The next morning, we decided to take the starter to auto zone to get tested. Husband lifted the front end to take the starter off and realized it wasn't connected the whole time. I genuinely wish that I could give First Landing a good review. I purchased a used car with inoperable windshield wipers. I took the car to them hoping for a quick diagnosis and repair. They kept the car for over a week. When I went to pick it up the wipers were still broken and they presented me with a bill for $420 in labor to conduct electric diagnostics. I paid and I left. I can not recommend them and I have told everyone who asks why they are a very poor choice for automotive diagnosis and repairs. I am a retiree on a fixed income. After recently moving to Virginia I was in desperate need of an oil change and an inspection so I could register my car in the state. I called and was able to get an appointment the next day. From start to finish, I had a great experience. I was warmly welcomed and since I'm new to the area, received recommendations for lunch while my car was being inspected. My appointment took about 90 minutes, which was faster than I had anticipated. In addition to a one on one explanation of what was looked at in my car, I was provided a color copy and an email PDF of everything they inspected in my vehicle. Truck was under complete warranty with three minor issues that had nothing to do with the dealership itself but from coming off the line and they worked through every issue with efficiency and when the repair shop got backed up with work, they offered me a rental to make up for it. I was on a long trip to GA and my car suddenly died nearby in VA Beach - seeing as I was traveling and unfamiliar with the area, I had my car towed to First Landing to see if it was repairable. While they checked it out, I flew to GA...but everyone at First Landing was the best and so helpful, and kept calling with updates on my car. Plus, they generously let me keep my car on site for over 1 month until I was able to get back to the area. I could not have been more thankful! Nice people but disappointed in cost and time to have my Hybrid battery Replaced. They have a Hybrid Shop franchise, but no refurbished batteries in stock. The battery had to be shipped from California and took a week (no car!) The cost was higher than I had expected based on internet research, but they are the only game in town to replace my Prius battery. The price was over $2400....but came with a 3 year warranty. The dealer wanted me to put a new battery in a 9 year old Prius (yes, just past warranty) and would only give me a ONE YEAR warranty. The new battery would be $3450 (after the recycling rebate). They also would have to order the battery pack....so I picked this place as the lesser of two unsatisfactory options. They were also very nice and friendly and did my inspection and a couple minor repairs while they had the car. Additionally they offered to come in especially for me to pick up the car on a Saturday. read more

Did an oil change (79.99) and safety inspection (16.99). They dropped me off at home while they completed the work and grabbed me when it was finished. They also gave me a quote on new tires, fluid for my transmission, and a new air filter. They seemed a little high for me though and after pricing in the area I was able to find it for much cheaper. However, they provide quality customer service and even take pictures of their assessments for you to reference without being too pushy about doing additional work. If the prices were more comparable I'd probably go back for the additional work, but I just can't afford their small business prices. Definitely go there if you're looking for some top notch service. read more

I discovered First Landing Auto Care shortly after I moved to Virginia and had to get my state safety inspection done. They are just down the street from where I live, so I was able to drop my car off and walk home. The staff, from scheduling my appointment, to walking me through what needed to be repaired (windshield wipers) were incredibly friendly and knowledgable. They give you amazing printouts of everything they do on your car, complete with pictures. When I picked up my car, they had left a little thank you note in my vehicle along with some mints. A very nice touch. Now let's fast forward a bit...I recently brought my car in for maintenance because it was due and because my PSI warning light kept going off (I checked my tires multiple times and the light would go off for about a day and then come back on). They resolved all of my issues and did the typical maintenance, but they also called me to warn me about a loud knocking/clunking they heard. They asked if I wanted them to investigate, and I was surprised, because I hadn't heard the sound, but I said okay. And this is where you should all take note and never leave your cars in my care...it was a VERY obvious sound. When I picked my car up later, I heard it clear as day. Fail on my part. Anywho, they diagnosed the issue for me AND then called my dealership, giving them my VIN, to check if my car was still under warranty (it is - I work from home - I miss sunlight). So, they diagnosed the issue for me and called a dealership for me to save me money. They could have just told me the issue and done the repairs themselves and charged me upwards of $1000. I love this place. They are honest, reliable, fast, and courteous. My husband wants to start using them now, too. A++ in my book. And did I mention you get mints each time?
