[[HIGHLIGHT]]I booked a crew of four on 09Jan25 to load some trucks on 30Jan25, and I confirmed this the week prior. On the date of my service, a crew of three arrived and told me that their manager, the company owner, had decided that my job did not need the crew I booked.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This job ended up taking around 10 hours, so a crew of four was definitely warranted. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was not informed of this decision before the crew arrived nor was I given an opportunity to reaffirm that I still wanted the full booking. I was never, in fact, communicated with by the owner about this change.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As this crew was over-worked and tired, they did not get to loading my appliances until mid-afternoon. I have a front-load washing machine and I provided the crew with the moving bolts prior to the job, placing them on top of the machine. I also verbally reminded the team to use these and received a confirmation. I later, after they had left, found these moving bolts on a counter in another room. No one on the team notified me that they forgot and failed to follow my instructions. Upon unloading this machine in my new residence, the suspension was destroyed, leaving the washing machine a total loss. I reached out to this company to notify them that their inefficient management of their staff and the resulting negligence of an over-tired team resulted in a loss that I had provided my due diligence to prevent and requested that the cost of a replacement of this machine be compensated to us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In return I got an email from the owner of this company with a plethora of information to attempt to gaslight me in to believing that moving bolts are not necessary when moving a front-load washing machine at any other time than putting it on its side (which is very much not what the manual itself states).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He requested we have an appliance repair company look at the machine and stated he would go from there. We did reach out to a repair company, who did question the use of the moving bolts and also noted that the cost to repair the machine exceeded the cost of a replacement. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I provided this information, along with numerous supporting documents, and again requested that the replacement cost be compensated to us. I received no response from this company until I brought to his attention that he is currently operating with a revoked certificate from the Texas DMV.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He offered me $135 for the loss of my washing machine, did not offer to cover the cost of appliance service at his request, and noted that he would not be communicating with me further. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On each occasion that I reached out to this company to resolve this issue that is a result of their negligence I made it clear that I would have liked to resolve this without escalating to DMV mediation, online reviews/complaints, or other available routes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was told that this would be a waste of my time, and at no point did the owner of this company have any explanation as to why he is presenting his company as licensed when they are NOT CERTIFIED TO DO SO by the state of Texas. The team also left three guns unsecured in the trucks. At no point was the owner of this company apologetic or concerned about this lapse in procedure. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Every aspect of resolving this issue with this company has been uncooperative and aggressive. The owner of this company has refused to cooperate with me to find an agreeable resolution to their mistake and has chosen to childishly ignore me instead.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Do not, under any circumstances, use this company as they are not licensed/certified to do operate in the state of Texas currently. They advertise that they are licensed, insured, and professional and only the insurance part appears to be accurately represented. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm willing to update this review if my issue is resolved, my emails are replied to in a professional manner, or the complaints filed with the Texas DMV and BBB are replied to.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Unfortunately, though, this will be a more time-consuming issue that I have been forced to escalate to mediation (which is free for consumers, should you also need this). read more

Ugh. Should've read the reviews! Our move ended up taking two full days because the crew dragged slowly. They were not equipped as the professional movers that I would anticipate... In fact, one was just doing it as a favor to the owner who was a personal friend. I tipped them because I'm a good person and because they were nice however... they completely destroyed my wood floors by dragging furniture. Two of the three guys on day one showed up really sick or hung over and looked like he was going to die the entire time. On day two I had only two guys. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I reached out to the owner, he told me he forwarded my complaint to the workers. They were surprised because I tipped them. I've hired this company three times--and unfortunately, the third strike was an eye‑opener. What went wrong     *    More movers, worse results: I paid for three movers instead of two and still watched the job drag on for nearly double the time and price.     *    Damaged & missing items: Several pieces were broken and shattered, and my ladder vanished. The movers didn't document one item - just walked up to me w/ them broken and kept on going.     *    Neighborhood drama: The crew blocked my neighbor's car, then picked a verbal fight when she asked them to move. I'm sure they do good work but you cannot get a phone call or email retuned so they'll essentially hold your things hostage for weeks until they decide it's not linger "summer and busy season." Keep in mind - they charge you for the time they hold your items even though you continuously attempt to pick them up "during hours" but the lights are off and the doors are locked if you show up. read more

We used First Responders moving today. The guys came prepared with tools and all the extras we may need to protect our furniture and make the move more successful. I first used this company on a recommendation in 2015 when I sold my home. The only problem was with scheduling, they didn't show up and then denied everything. That's bad when you're moving under contract with a house sale. But, the men who did the actual moving were great. As a repeat customer, things only got worse. In 2020 I called them again to help move furniture from PODS into home. Again, the movers were impressive. But that's where it ended. I called them again a couple years later to move boxes and furniture into storage unit. HUGE disappointment. It was a completely different crew - only two men and the leader was lazy. After a couple of hours he announced it was "time to go!" and closed the truck. The truck was only 2/3 full with nothing stacked or secured. I was charged $600 at the storage unit and pressured for a tip. The office assured me "it was just that one guy" (the leader) and it wouldn't happen again. When I moved last year, 2023, I used them once more. It was a nightmare. The truck, again, was only about half full when it was "time to go!" That assured more than one trip, and being told I would need TWO MORE trucks now. I refused the second truck and they sent it anyway. I explained the budget and the office argued. I explained there was only so much money and they weren't filling the trucks, so the office agreed to stay in my budget, but didn't take away the second truck as I asked. They fully loaded them as I insisted, but it was packed tightly and done sloppy. At the new house, they paid no attention to how boxes were marked or labeled. I had downsized to a small home, so it was full, but now everything was mixed. Boxes were stacked up blocking the doorway of a room with a large empty space behind them that you couldn't get to. Nothing was assembled. The couch was left standing on one end. The garage refrigerator was put on top of a pile of sawdust and no refrigerator handles were put back on. They left the stove in the middle of the kitchen instead of adjusting the legs 1/4" to fit the counter. I never found the burner or strike plates, except for one that was in the driveway, smashed. I ended up having to buy a new stove in addition to hiring people to put basic things together and/or in place. I had them pack for me. Big mistake. Boxes were incorrectly labeled, sometimes mixed or crammed full. I instructed them not to pack my hats, but they stacked them together and crammed them into a box, stacking more things on top. Service people who have come to hook up appliances have all said the same thing: "Wow, it looks like they got here and just dumped you!" Along with the mess, I was charged 4x what they quoted me and, once again, pressured to tip as I was paying. Moves cost in the $1000s so even a 10% tip can be hundreds of dollars. I will never use this company or recommend them to anyone. I also now inspect the work of anyone I hire before paying and tip ONLY if they did extra and I'm impressed. They called to let me know they were 15 minutes out from arrival and when they did arrive they immediately introduced themselves which made me feel very comfortable. They came in, packed efficiently, made sure all items were protected/wrapped, and then turned around and unloaded all our items in a timely manner. All 3 of these men were polite and respectful. Hired to do a small office move. Guys showed up smelling of weed, moving slow and taking 4 hours to take 3 desks from a second floor office to the truck to load. Upon delivery to the final destinations 2 of the 3 desks were broken and I will have to do repairs to even get them reassembled. I will not be using them in the future. read more

We do NOT recommend First Responders moving. We had high hopes because they were recommended by colleagues at Trinity University, but we have moved 8 times in the past 8 years and this was by far the most ridiculous experience. Our move was so simple that even the movers commented on how easy we made it for them. Every single thing was packed into boxes at the correct weight, we'd already moved delicate items to our new house ourselves, and we barely moved any furniture or large items. It was a 4 mile move, a shorter distance with fewer boxes than any of our previous moves. Mike from First Responders sent us a quote for 5 hours of work. I told him that we have never, ever had a move take more than 3 hrs, so we wouldn't need 5 hours. Of course the movers managed to move so slowly and waste so much time they made it to the 5 hour mark! How convenient. The movers were nice young men, but clearly untrained and unprepared. They did not show up in uniforms or with proper equipment, back braces, blankets, anything. One had a tattoo inked the day before on his arm and was complaining that it hurt. We paid over $650 for a ridiculously easy and small move and we were NOT pleased. The worst part is that these untrained movers managed to break half the furniture they moved. They broke the frame to our only bed, so we've been sleeping on a mattress on the floor since our move on October 5. They also broke our two bookcases so we still can't unpack our books. The movers seemed surprised that they broke these (neither were wrapped, secured in the truck, nothing) and kept apologizing. They took photos and told us not to worry, their company would make us whole. They didn't. What a surprise. Mike again (see review below for more on their response to broken furniture). Chain of 30+ emails over a month and a half and at the end we still have a room full of broken wood furniture they left behind. Mike and First Responders offered nothing but the bare minimum -- $.60 per pound. $800 worth of furniture broken by untrained and unprofessional movers for a move that cost twice what it should and they offered us $120. Total. $120, which won't even cover one of the bookcases. We are beyond angry but they seem to think that's a fair reimbursement amount for what they broke. Buyer beware -- don't give this company your business. In the end you'll have to replace items no matter how well you prepare for the move and they won't care at all. I have referred a lot of people to first responders moving (within the last few weeks as well as years ago) and I have also used them before with great success. However this time was 100% different. The guys were very nice as always. I had previously taken my TVs that were hung off the walls and had been watching them that way until the day of my move therefore in great condition. The first sign I had that this might have not been the best crew compared to before was when they had to go back for a second trip and I was moving out of a 1500 sq ft house... so to me the truck wasn't packed properly. $700+tip later they were finally done in what could have been one load not 2. The following Sunday I had help hanging my TVs when the TVs were off they looked fine so I hung them. Once hung and turned on this was not the case both shattered and broken 55 inch tv's. When I called to make a claim the manager Mike let me know that his guys told him 2 of my TVs were broken and I was aware... my first question is why wouldn't I have been made to sign something if I knew that the TVs were broken and they were moving them? Then why would I move broken TVs instead have them thrown out? Again keep in mind you cannot tell they are broken until turned on so... that doesn't quite add up. I called made a claim a week after.. that reason being I'm a single mom no help to unpack or do these things until that time and again they didn't look broken while off. I have been dealing with Mike Thetford regarding my claim I submitted Monday morning and it's now Thursday I haven't heard anything after asking to be contacted by the owner. Today I have called and asked for an update he told me he would call me back only to receive a email instead that basically says " the discrepancy is unsettling calling me a liar and they will give me $60. What a horrida dishonest way to do Buisness. Update: John the owner had my TVs picked up Friday and told me he would get an estimate to fix them I was pretty happy with this. Throughout the weekend he continued to email me then offered $350 to say I'm satisfied and to take down all my reviews at first I thought I would take the money but then I wasn't ok with this happening to someone else so I didn't think me having to agree I was 100% satisfied was fair (see both emails below). I'm not sure why he ordered the tvs to be picked up if he was not planning on taking them in for an estimate. It's a pretty slimy way to do buisness thinking 350 will buy 2 55 inch TVs as well as a missing box of pots and pans all while questioning my integrity the entire time. read more

Just for an FYI.... I called First Responders Moving & Delivery and wanted to get a quote. I had done one online but no response. I have a very large home that needs to also be packed. Mike said he would rather come out and give me a quote.. i felt this was better also. On the day he was suppose to come out.. NO Show at our scheduled time. I waited 30 minutes and called. To my surprise Mike answered the phone. He said he forgot!!! He was going to send the owner since he lives closer to me, but he forgot to tell him. I also felt the tone in his voice was very dull.. The actual first responder movers have been excellent. I have used them twice. However the front office is pretty shady . They refuse to call you back. During the first move I had an item broken but told them don't worry about making a claim because it was sentimental to Me and could not be replaced. I understand things happen. The second move one item was ruined another was damaged. So I had to put a claim in. The front office played games about "we never received your claim amount... it's going to be 90 days... you will have to speak to the owner etc. you would think a professional who knows it would take 90 days to receive your claim would reach out with a phone call if in fact they claim they haven't received your info. The old wait and see if you blow it off so they can get out of it routine. Still have not received a call back from the owner! read more

Super nice guys but no idea how to load a uhual. Damaged several things and took over twice as long. I moved here in the same size truck I rented and everything fit fine. This time I had already driven an entire van loaded full from this home to my new one. I also left 2 storage cabinets, all living room tables, a gas grill and all outdoor furniture. All of which fit in the truck 2 years ago. So how did I run out of room this time? Stuff was just thrown in and I actualy saw them stand my leather couch on end and DRAG it across the metal floor damaging it and several other things. Do not use. read more

The quote which was given to me for a two-bedroom apartment for two movers was for between 4-6 hours.  The movers that arrived almost an hour later than the scheduled time with one smelling like he had barely finished smoking some weed.  While the movers were nice and courteous, they took their time. None of the bathrooms, kitchen or main bedroom closet was packed and ready to move, so I thought the job would be done within quoted time or less.  Besides furniture, everything was boxed, so there wasn't anything unusual about the moving job, but to help them out, I was moving boxes myself from the bedrooms to near the apartment entrance to assist them.  The job took them 9.25 hours for what wasn't even a fully packed 2-bedroom apartment. Here are the things that really drop their rating from me though: Our dining table was one of the first items, if not the first item, that was placed in the truck.  While it was blanketed and wrapped to prevent damage, unbeknownst to me, the movers placed boxes on it during the move.  Since it was now one of the last items to be taken down, that meant that for at least over 8 hours, it had boxes weighing down on it.  While setting up in my new home during the time the movers are bringing items in, I realize that I haven't seen them for maybe 15-20 minutes.  I go to the moving truck and see them both under the table trying to fix it.  They tell me the table is broken as the weight of the boxes they put on it made it bow inward.  They also tell me that they could fix it but they don't have the proper tools to do so and that basically, the reason it bowed inward was because it was poorly made.  They continue for another 20 minutes trying to fix it until I finally get fed up and ask them what I can do about the table and they said I would have to contact their boss, John, and put in a claim.  I sign and write the comments about the broken table that we need the claim for that was broken due to their negligence and filled out the payment info.  They told me that my receipt would be emailed to me, however, none of the comments I put regarding the broken table were in the receipt. They said they had been trying to contact John themselves to see what the process would be but that he was always hard to get a hold of, even for them.  Frustrated at this point, I let my wife continue to handle the situation as I went inside.  They get a hold of John but don't let my wife speak to him and when she tries to call him at the number they provide she's forced to leave a message.  This happened Friday.  While it is Tuesday, I understand Monday was a holiday, we have still not heard back from John or anyone from this company regarding this issue.  Even though this company came highly recommended to us, I am very disappointed in their professionalism and utter lack of communication in trying to fix a customer's problem they caused and the full moving experience. Hopefully, I can change my review based on a resolution to this matter. read more

I moved 3 times in San Antonio and this crew beats all the others hands down. We had 3 guys to load our 26' truck. I had lots of books, clothes, and kitchen items as well as bedroom and living room furniture. The loaded in about 3 hours. My husband and I were impressed. The guys were nice, punctual, worked that truck like the best Tetris game ever...and were having fun too. The way they wrapped our queen sleeper sofa was amazing. The two employees who assisted us were very polite and efficient. They were working non-stop. Given that we are in COVID times, they both wore their mask the whole time they worked. My review is quite consistent with several others that I have read considering the claim filing process. I used this company for the 4th time at the end of May as I have always felt they did a good job. However, the first time I went to use my dryer after the move, the heat no longer worked. I called to inquire about the claims process and Margo was very condescending about the fact that I could think it had anything to do with the move because "electronics malfunction all the time." While I would normally agree, I think it's quite a coincidence for a new dryer to go out RIGHT after a move. I filed a claim the first week in June for the price of the parts it would appear we would need. I never heard back from them so I reached out to the owner, John, about a week and a half later to see where they were in the process. He had an electric company call me to set up a service call. Upon inspection, the electrician told me that it looked like a wire got snagged in the move and that he felt they should be responsible (later, John insisted the electric company told him they were not responsible). It turned out that we didn't need the parts we ordered, so we returned them as the electric company said he would bring what we needed. Again, some time went by and I heard nothing from First Responders, so I called the electrician out and paid for the repairs up front since I could no longer be without a dryer. More time goes by and I send John an email in August asking why I haven't heard back from them. He asked for the invoice for repairs so I sent it on August 12th and again never heard back. I reached out to him again in September and another receptionist insisted he would get back to me by September 6th. Yet again I did not hear back, so I left another message two days later and emailed him on the 9th. I also called the office several times that day to try and determine when I was going to hear back. Nobody ever picked up because it would seem they were fielding my calls. He sent me a very unprofessional email that evening accusing me of harassing his staff among other things. Funny enough, I called just as many times on a day two years ago when I had a move scheduled and my movers were several hours late with no notice. That, ironically, was not considered harassment. I assume because he knew he would be getting money from me that day. But when the coin is flipped and I am asking him to pay for something he doesn't want to pay for, THAT is harassment. Even though I never even spoke to anyone. Perhaps I wouldn't need to call so much if he would actually service his customers. In the email, he also went on to say that I lacked common sense for thinking they were at fault since in 5000+ moves, they hadn't had any claims about dryers. I guess his movers are absolutely perfect and never damage anything. Even though other reviews reference damage. (Don't misunderstand-the issue isn't that something was damaged. Moving is hard on things so they occasionally get damaged. I just want them to take responsibility when it happens.) He also said that he would not be paying for the parts we mistakenly ordered. OF COURSE NOT. Had he paid any attention to any of the amounts I referenced in my messages to him, I only quoted the amount of the repair service. He never came out and explicitly said in the email what I needed to do to get this taken care of. I ASSUME he wanted an updated claim form but I still don't know for sure. The point of this story is to say that they make the claim process so hard, that I have officially given up after more than 3 months. So, I had to pay for the dryer myself. They are good movers, but just know that should anything go wrong, it will be a miracle if you can get them to take care of it. You should also know that you are giving money to a company whose owner is quite rude to his customers and seemingly incompetent. read more

My wife and I used First Responders Moving this past weekend to move from our apartment to a house. They arrived exactly on time and were both very courteous and friendly. They took great care of all of our things and were very efficient. There was no hidden cost or extra charges like I have had with other moving companies before. This was my 3rd moving company I've ever used. And I will never use anyone else, but 1st Responders! The guys were absolutely the BEST. Very courteous, prompt, fast moving, and they packed the truck like it was a Tetris game. No damages at all. Hooked up my ice maker, washer & dryer. Took apart and put together 4 beds. I had A lot of stuff and they never took a break. Well worth the costs! And hey, they were pretty easy on the eyes as well.....Just sayn' read more

I hate having to give them one star. The guys that moved me were great! However my move cost double what I was quoted. Two items were damaged and I submitted my claim after the move. It has been over a month and no one is responding back to my emails or phone call about the claim. Completely unacceptable. read more

My husband and I hired 3 guys to help load a 26' and 16' moving truck for a cross country trip. They arrived on time and were professional and courteous from beginning to end. Our 4 bedroom home was no easy task, filled with heavy furniture pieces in a two story house, and they delivered! Worth every penny and would hire again- wish they had guys everywhere we have to move! read more

I know that the owner of this company is NOT an SAFD member. Be that as it may, I guess he is a 1st responder somewhere. I write this today to protect the reputation of my fellow 1st responders of San Antonio. I am compelled to do so because the customer service this company provides is an absolute disappointment, and I do not want people thinking that San Antonio 1st responders provide this sub-par level of customer service in any situation. Do not use this company. I was quoted 3 movers and only 2 showed up. It took them over 2 hours just to move my refrigerator because they did not have the proper tools or training. (It took my husband and brother about 20 mins to move it into our house by taking the front door off the hinges). I expected professional movers, and they were not. They were very nice, but not qualified for the job and took advantage of the fact that they are paid by the hour. My move took twice as long as it should have, which means it cost twice as much as it should have, and several items were damaged. I have tried multiple times to contact the company, with zero response. They were quick to respond when I was booking with them, so I know they are ignoring my messages. This is completely disappointing, unprofessional, and unacceptable. read more

I used this company when moving from the medical center area to the 281/Bitters area. Their customer service was excellent from the first point of contact until the end. They moved me from a 2 bedroom, 2nd floor apartment in the medical center area to a 2 bedroom, 1st floor apartment in the 281/Bitters area in approx. 4 hours. They were very personable and worked extremely hard despite one of them just coming off a very long overnight shift at the fire station. They really took the time to secure my belongings to minimize the chance of damage. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is that they lost control of my front load washing machine going down the stairs and it was damaged. However, the moving guys immediately admitted fault and the company reimbursed me for repair costs in a very timely manner after I had the damage repaired. read more
