This should really be 4.5 stars. We have eaten at several of these restaurants in Florida, and really like the concept and the food. It is a great alternative to typical breakfast places. They have lots of healthful options, along with the standard comfort breakfasts, but often with a bit of a fresh twist. And their breads are really tasty and fresh, and they offer gluten free. They also have soups and sandwiches, which are available all day, though they close around 230 PM. This one just opened in April and seems like they are doing very well. Our server, Alex, was so helpful, in everything from food suggestions, to keeping us in Half and half for our coffees. I wish we had a server like him every place we go. My only real complaint about First Watch restaurants is the noise level. The high ceiling have no noise buffers and my ears are always ringing when I leave. Highly recommend! read more

First time I went, I was super impressed by the breakfast I got: huge portions and delicious flavor. The second time I went, I ordered the exact same dish: the pancakes with eggs and hash browns instead of meat. This time around though the portions were significantly smaller - the pancake was literally about half the size for no reason whatsoever. My husband on the other hand just recently went there and received a burrito twice as big as the last one he had. So even though the food is good, portion sizes are widely inconsistent to the point of me not wanting to go back. read more

This is the 3rd time my husband and I have eaten at First Watch. The 1st time was amazing but it seems they have gone down in service. We were sat and quickly brought water (no extra glass even though there were 3 of us today). Our server sat it down and said she would be right back. After a few minutes someone else came to take out drink order and said that our server had just had a party of 6 sat at one of her tables. From that moment on it seemed like larger parties were more important that other tables. Their order was taken first even though we were sat first. We waited 40 minutes for food to arrive and have the server quickly disappear again before we even had a moment to take in if we were missing something. We had to flag down someone to ask for more hot sauce, as the bottle was empty, and my husband was missing his preserves. The food was ok but nothing like the first time we visited. My husband ordered the chili chorizo omelette and it had very little chorizo in it. We were sat at the table right next to the area where people line up to pay or get their name on the list. I believe this is the worst table to be sat at. It made my son very uncomfortable to be sitting there as people, customers and employees, stood or walked so close to him he was afraid they were going to bump into him. Considering this is one of the few breakfast places in Charlottesville I'm disappointed in our experience today. read more

I was looking forward to trying this new restaurant but I think I'll pass. After hearing thru the grapevine today about the treatment received by two local restaurant equipment repair small business owners attempting to have lunch there being asked to leave by a manager. This was a couple of hours after one of them had stopped in at the request of another manager to do a minor repair which was accomplished. I will encourage all of my friends to spend their hard earned money at other locally owned restaurants who have some appreciation for the people who help to keep their equipment running and doors open. I ordered twice from this place now and I've had a bad experience twice. The first time, our order was incomplete and our food was slightly burnt. The second time, they sent me an email telling me my order was ready at 1:56 and yet when I arrived at the restaurant they said they didn't have any order under my name and I had to argue with the server and show him my receipt. I had a fairly nice meal with my friends. Our waiter change half way through and didn't think anything from it. While we were leaving the manager stopped my friend and told her she was not allowed back at the location because she had used racial slurs towards our waiter. This was certainly wrong, and seemed almost like an intentional lie for a reason i can not explain. We explained to the manager that it was not the case as we were baffled by the whole situation. It was a very unpleasant and aggressive situation, my friend left distressed. I later emailed them to try to find out what exactly the waiter had thought he heard and resolve the issue but received no response. I hope this review fosters a response. read more

This restaurant overall is decent. Most of the staff are super nice and helpful. Ours today was a bit slow and not really attuned to our needs but usually they are quick. The food is delicious outside of the salad: wilted pieces to point of a few rotting pieces. One issue I had today was observing their safety measures. A couple of servers and one chef had masks on however were below their noses often and most frequently they'd wait and pull it all the way down in the kitchen area where food is being prepped. I work at a job where masks are worn all day and I know it's taxing but it's necessary and their lack of respect to adhere to the guidelines makes me not want to come back. read more

I decided to come back this weekend with my husband since we had a coupon. We used the waitlist feature on yelp and while it took a while for us to get to the top of the list we were able to wait at home. When we arrived, we waited probably 5 minutes before we were seated. It took a little over 10 minutes for our food to arrive after placing the order. My husband ordered the smoked salmon frittata and I ordered the works omelette. Both tasted really good, and the toast that came with my omelette was phenomenal. We came out feeling full and satisfied. I'm disappointed that they still don't have prices listed for drinks on the menu, but that's a minor thing. They've definitely improved a lot since the last time we were there, and honestly we wouldn't mind coming back to try others items on their menu. read more

The food and drinks were great. Unfortunately we received 1st a coffee cup with lipstick on it, then a glass with debris stuck to it, and lastly a spoon with dried pieces of food on it. Worse still was the response of the server, who brought a clean glass and asked snidely "will this one be ok for you" and then did the same thing with a clean spoon. First Watch wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either. Must say I was disappointed. Went after a trip to the gym and craving healthy food and heard First Watch was great. Around lunch time and the place was crowded and with open ceilings and hard floors, it was very noisy. Companion had turkey sausage gravy over a biscuit. The gravy was somewhat nondescript lacking much flavor. The biscuit, once freed from the gravy was actually good. Order came with two eggs which were requested to be cooked over easy. Got two eggs that were devoid of yolk moisture! Accompanying potatoes were not bad however. I had three breakfast tacos. Wheat tortilla with scrambled eggs and sausage which were a better choice than the sausage gravy. Still, the tacos were somewhat bland and the accompanying black beans needed some punch. Prices are high for what one gets and paying was a challenge as well. Seems the credit card printer ran out of ink so things were being done manually. With 1 checkout station, well, things got jammed up pretty badly. Would I go back? Likely not. Food was bland, checkout terrible and just too noisy. And there are too many other locales that handle breakfast all day and other offerings that are simply better. read more

Where to start. Waited over half an hour for a table with a mass of other people waiting for their tables. Multiple clean tables waiting in the restaurant. More open clean tables than people waiting. Multiple dirty tables waiting to be bussed. The manager said our table was being bussed and later led us to said table, which wasn't bussed. She picked up the dirty dishes and moved them to another dirty table and sat us without cleaning the obvious smears of food off our table. Husband's food arrived first with literally cold eggs. My food arrived several minutes later after my husband was done eating. My food was tasty but my poached eggs were hard as a rock. I don't think we'll be back. It seems like the basics of running a restaurant are missing here. read more

Today was my first vistit to First Watch located in the Barracks Road Shopping Center. We had a superb dining experience and and fantastic service. Food was great and the menu had something for everyone. Menu item prices were very reasonalble. Love the perky environment. Will definitily go back. I heard great things about this place but confess my meal was mediocre at best. I ordered a healthy omelet. It was supposed to have turkey, spinach grilled onions, feta and tomatoes. The "turkey" was chopped in cubes and must have been soaked in salt. I could not eat all of it. The feta came diced up smaller than the tomatoes. As for the spinach... I think there were four pieces. The toast was lukewarm. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because my server was great. Will not go there again. Bodo's has better food. read more

The first time I went to first watch it was great and they were very allergy friendly. I went this past Wednesday and I got a healthy turkey omelet and specifically asked for gluten free toast. Once the toast came out I could tell it didn't look right. I have a severe gluten intolerance and have been gluten free for a year, I know what Udi's gluten free toast looks like because I eat it all the time. What they gave me was not Udi's and was definitely not gluten free. I asked the server if he was sure what he gave me was gluten free and he said yes, so I ate it. I have felt sick and fatigued ever since I ate it. Within an hour I could tell I had ingested gluten. I am a server, manager and bartender myself and I always double check to make sure if everything is right for customers with allergies. I am scared to go back now. read more

I was excited to see a First Watch in C'ville, and was expecting the same quality service and food as I had at the one in Ohio. I gave it three tries. Each time my "over easy" eggs were over hard and brown and the first two times the server didn't come back to ask how things were. As I paid the third time at the front the cashier asked how things were and I opened my mouth to mention my experiences and they moved on to someone else, without thinking maybe I had something to say. I'm disappointed as I love the kale juice and the food choices. But don't think I'll go back. It was also very noisy. Some sound boards would be nice. read more

My girlfriend and I were hungover after a cabin weekend with friends full of sleepness nights and PLENTY of liquor (lol). While we were in Southern Virginia we wanted to stop in downtown Charlottesville to see the "Unite the Right Rally" memorial. But we were starving and dehydrated so I looked up great brunch spots in the area and came across First Watch. When we walked in the vibe was refreshing and it was very busy. We spotted two chairs at the bar and sat down in the comfy bar seating. I ordered the avocado toast with turkey sausage on the side and a the fresh Kale Tonic. My girlfriend ordered the Farmhouse Hash with a Kale Tonic as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal savoring every single bite. There was only one bartender serving the entire bar area and he had exceptional costumer service considering the volume of people in the bar area. I wish I remembered his name but he was a bald guy with a red beard. First Watch made our visit to Charlottesville much more pleasant and we just discovered that there is one in Rockville, MD which is closer to where we live. We look forward to going back to enjoy the sweet and savory food that is First Watch :-) read more

Food was excellent the service was the same and if you order get those potatoes they were delicious as well as the French toast.i didn't have the pancakes but they are humongous so I see why you only need one. I loved the fact that they had flavor creamer for your coffee at the table so you didn't have to keep asking for cream. I will be back. Amazing personable but not worrisome service. Clean and beautiful decor and environment. The food was AMAZING! Even down to the water that didn't taste like chlorine. I had an omlet with ham shallots, herbs, mushrooms and guyere cheese. Multi grain toast, strawberry jam and micro Greens and coffee. My guest had a traditional bacon platter. We shared the buckwheat lemon curd pancakes with fresh berries.... Everything was Devine. The coffee was a bit too strong, but that's preference. The price was a but steep for breakfast but the portions make up for it . I will return! read more

It looks like others are hearing about how great this breakfast brunch place is, because there were only counter seats available when we arrived.
