So, I've already been twice and I must say I'm very impressed. They have lots of choices and what I've tried have been excellent. I had the biscuits and gravy the first time and the bacon and avocado omelet the next...both fresh and delicious. My son had French toast and he loved it. The restaurant is really cute too and the staff friendly. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is that they don't offer mimosas (or any alcohol) and I love to have those with my brunch. I plan to ask if they would consider a BYOC (bring your own champagne) option. Is be fine with that. PS One more complaint is they don't offer fresh cream for coffee. They only have the little non-refrigerated half & halfs and flavored creamers. Yuck all around. May have to bring my own cream next time because it's definitely not a deal breaker since the food is so good. read more

I'm so glad we have a designated brunch place in College Station now! The environment gives a very trendy, urban feel which I enjoy and the presentation of their food is wonderful. Summary: Excellent food but quality of service is inconsistent. Hopefully they can return to the level of service I experienced on my first visit. Update: My third visit was much better. Our waitress was friendly. I ordered the traditional breakfast and a coffee. Everything came out quick and tasted amazing. I tried some of my friend's waffle and it was divine. So fluffy. Service can still improve though. The hostess inconsistently offered seating on the patio or at the community table to random parties. My friend ordered water but we did not get it until we reminded our waitress that we wanted it. This was after another couple was seated right next to us and given water immediately. A runner brought someone else's food to our table. Later, after we had finished our food, the couple that got water before us finally got their food. Not sure if their wait was because of what they ordered or something else, but they didn't look happy. The bad: My second visit to First Watch started out pretty subpar. There was only one person up front acting as both cashier and host. I was seated after a couple minutes and then waited 10 more minutes before even being served water or asked if I wanted coffee. My silverware set lacked a spoon so I stirred cream and sugar using my knife. The good: After ordering, service was better. I ordered the biscuits and turkey gravy with eggs and it came out super fast. The potatoes were tasty and seasoned well. The biscuits were warm and fluffy though the turkey gravy was a tad salty. The eggs were cooked perfectly over hard. My waitress checked on me once halfway through the meal, then a second time to give me the check. The first time I visited first watch service was a lot better. The waiter had a lot of energy and explained the specials. This place has the potential to be great but our experience was less than ideal. Upon being seated we waited 15 minutes for a server to come take our drink order before promptly disappearing for another five minutes before bringing back an orange juice. Our food came quickly but was somehow still cold. My daughter got a Belgian waffle and the butter wouldn't even melt, the waffle was cold. I got the French toast which was good with the berry compote and warm syrup but again the actual bread was cold. The waitress we got was inattentive and checked back once only after we finished eating. The food at the surrounding tables seemed good so maybe this was just a one off experience. No wait on a Saturday at noon during the summer. I appreciate the large mugs and ample refills of coffee. I got the market vegetable omelette which was absolutely stuffed with goat cheese. The side salad was severely under-dressed, but I can't complain because there was enough goat cheese in the omelette to flavor the greens. First watch is a great breakfast spot in town. It is always packed so getting a place in line before you go is essential! Don't be surprised if you roll up at 10am and the wait for a table is an hour or more. The food is mostly on point, thing come out at a good speed and the coffee is always good. Had a few issues with the benedict eggs being overcooked but they are very attentive to your needs and willing to correct problems. The servers have all been pleasant, the managers are always there walking around to check on tables. We have been multiple times and have never had a bad experience. Such a great breakfast/brunch spot in Cstat! Usually there's a wait to enter, but for brunch time on a Wednesday, it's fairly quick to be seated. Hot chocolate- very good, rich and creamy Pancakes- super good, buttery, fluffy, warm, HUGE, definitely some of the better pancakes I've had. Our waitress, Macy, was fantastic. Very welcoming and cheerful. My wife asked for the "surprise me" and was given a scrumptious meal (pesto bowl). I want to start by saying I was skeptical of this place prior to visiting. This immediately changed as I walked in. The restaurant fantastically utilizes an open space, rustic concept. The wall around my table appeared to be made of chalk boards and the art work on them provided a very entertaining conversation piece. The menu was full of options but not to the point of being overwhelming. On the menu you can find many options involving fresh produce and healthy meals to start your day. The service was impeccable and the waitress had a very good working knowledge of the menu. Their summer drinks are phenomenal and get you feeling right. Love the concept of local farm to table breakfast, brunch& lunch, all available open to close, 7am-2:30pm I have been here for breakfast/brunch & lunch probably a dozen times over the last few months. While the menu is creative and varied, the quality is SO inconsistent. Sometimes it is an absolute home run and other times it's a complete bust. Poached eggs, which come with several different dishes, are almost always hard, as in yolk. Poached eggs are supposed to run yellow. Each time I have mentioned to the server that the eggs were actually hard, not soft as supposed to be in poached eggs, they looked at me like a deer in headlights. I'm not sure they knew how poached eggs are supposed to be cooked. Granted, the place is nearly completely employed by college students but it is a staple on the menu people. To credit the restaurant, they have always brought out eggs correctly cooked the second time around. But truly, this should not continue to happen. Secondly, I always order my bacon "extra crispy". Most of the time it comes out wet, limp and fatty with zero crispiness. Again, they will make it right. About 50% of the time, the entrees come out at significantly different times. This is a big deal when many of the entrees are egg dishes. The eggs Benedict, hash, avocado toast, pancakes, traditional breakfast, omelettes and egg sandwich are all excellent if cooked correctly. For lunch, my favorite is the 2 for you which is cup of soup or salad and half a sandwich. I love the tomato basil soup and roast beef and havarti sandwich with arugula. Mmmm. The chicken chili is mediocre at best. Good coffee, very good fresh squeezed juices. The service is always pleasant but not consistent. Sometimes it's great and sometimes it's not! Overall, it gets 3.5 stars. When they're on it's 5 stars but when not it's barely a 2. read more
