Recently came here while I was visiting with my sister and was a little disappointed by the lack of a gluten free menu and the flavor of the food. It was definitely interesting to me that I was handed the allergen menu and told that it wasn't entirely accurate because many of the "wheat" listings were a result of the included toast. Interesting, but okay. Why wasn't there just a gluten free menu to start? Having to do this made me question other ingredients - was the allergy listing a result of the toast or was it granola, a thickening agent, a sauce, etc. Very frustrating. In addition to questioning the safety of my meal even after going between the regular menu and the provided "allergen list," the food honestly just wasn't very flavorful. I ordered the Florentine Eggs Benedict and was pretty disappointed in how bland it was. The potatoes were decent, but my sister also commented on the lack of flavor in her breakfast sandwich. I absolutely adore this location and have been coming since freshman year--the ambience is gorgeous, honestly the prettiest First Watch location I've ever been to, and the service is usually great, but my last visit I had a waitress named Lorena who absolutely was above and beyond. She brought everything so fast, refills, sauces, everything! She checked on us often, and gave me a compliment on my hair that made me beaming the rest of the day! Summary: Excellent food but quality of service is inconsistent. Hopefully they can return to the level of service I experienced on my first visit. Update: My third visit was much better. Our waitress was friendly. I ordered the traditional breakfast and a coffee. Everything came out quick and tasted amazing. I tried some of my friend's waffle and it was divine. So fluffy. Service can still improve though. The hostess inconsistently offered seating on the patio or at the community table to random parties. My friend ordered water but we did not get it until we reminded our waitress that we wanted it. This was after another couple was seated right next to us and given water immediately. A runner brought someone else's food to our table. Later, after we had finished our food, the couple that got water before us finally got their food. Not sure if their wait was because of what they ordered or something else, but they didn't look happy. The bad: My second visit to First Watch started out pretty subpar. There was only one person up front acting as both cashier and host. I was seated after a couple minutes and then waited 10 more minutes before even being served water or asked if I wanted coffee. I watched as two other tables were seated and given water immediately while I was ignored. There were plenty of empty tables so it's not like the restaurant was busy. Finally when I was approached to take my order the waitress was not particularly friendly nor did she apologize for the wait. My silverware set lacked a spoon so I stirred cream and sugar using my knife. The good: After ordering, service was better. I ordered the biscuits and turkey gravy with eggs and it came out super fast. The potatoes were tasty and seasoned well. The biscuits were warm and fluffy though the turkey gravy was a tad salty. The eggs were cooked perfectly over hard. My waitress checked on me once halfway through the meal, then a second time to give me the check. The first time I visited first watch service was a lot better. The waiter had a lot of energy and explained the specials. Hot chocolate- very good, rich and creamy Pancakes- super good, buttery, fluffy, warm, HUGE, definitely some of the better pancakes I've had. Upon being seated we waited 15 minutes for a server to come take our drink order before promptly disappearing for another five minutes before bringing back an orange juice. Our food came quickly but was somehow still cold. My daughter got a Belgian waffle and the butter wouldn't even melt, the waffle was cold. I got the French toast which was good with the berry compote and warm syrup but again the actual bread was cold. The waitress we got was inattentive and checked back once only after we finished eating. The food at the surrounding tables seemed good so maybe this was just a one off experience. Our waitress, Macy, was fantastic. Very welcoming and cheerful. My wife asked for the "surprise me" and was given a scrumptious meal (pesto bowl). I want to start by saying I was skeptical of this place prior to visiting. This immediately changed as I walked in. The restaurant fantastically utilizes an open space, rustic concept. The wall around my table appeared to be made of chalk boards and the art work on them provided a very entertaining conversation piece. The menu was full of options but not to the point of being overwhelming. On the menu you can find many options involving fresh produce and healthy meals to start your day. The service was impeccable and the waitress had a very good working knowledge of the menu. Their summer drinks are phenomenal and get you feeling right.
