When I was living in Raleigh, a First Watch opened near me but I never had the chance to check it out. When in College Station for a visit, I had the chance to dine at First Watch for brunch. The environment was great. The bright interior and natural light flowing through the space really gave off a clean, fresh vibe. We started off with two apps: super seed protein pancakes and million dollar bacon. Both the pancakes and bacon had very bold flavors. My dish of choice was the socal breakfast burrito and my boyfriend ordered the pesto chicken quinoa bowl. I liked that a lot of options were on the lighter end, especially since I didn't want anything heavy. The burrito wasn't bad - I can't say the flavors for that were strong, as it came off a little bland. The pesto chicken quinoa bowl, I was a fan of! I wish I ordered that instead. For my wallet's sake, I wish we didn't come here almost every single week without fail. There are several things I rotate between on the menu, and everything tastes consistently great! I love trying their seasonal menu items, and the drinks that I have tried have been fantastic. The coffee is great, and I haven't tried their alcoholic drinks, yet, but I bet they are great, too! When they're really busy, it's disappointing when there's a wait. However, you can get in line on their app, which is great! We usually come on a week day ~11:45am and we never have to wait. I arrived at the restaurant at 7:05am and there was 2 other persons already seated, and the first complaint is the temperature in the restaurant was 65F ....very uncomfortable! The second complaint is that it is now 7:36am and not a single person has received their food order yet. If you post your serving food starting at 7:00am, the kitchen should be ready to produce the meals in a timely fashion, not over 42 minutes. My gosh, it's scrambled eggs! Waters came out immediately, and our waiter was sweet in giving recommendations and taking our orders. Drink spreads include the fancy kale and mango detox juices, along with your regular coffees and teas. It's a little yappie, but because we're in CStat it's not too much, ya feel? The interior is bright, with lots of natural lighting, grassy green walls and large white lettering, lots of wooden accents. Channels a strong, chic farm-to-plate vibe and a pleasant light atmosphere. Opted for the parma hash because I was feeling pretty ravenous - a hash with sausage, two eggs cooked to your preference, and POTATOES. The hash was absolutely delicious! The potatoes were soft, the sausage was chunky and smoky, and the various vegetables littered in it added to the overall goodness. My husband and I visited First Watch as I had a buy one get one for my birthday. I decided to once again try the eggs benedict and told them it was cold the last time I ordered it and I did not want cold eggs. Few of the items came out little bit colder then my liking. No big deal since it was a very busy Saturday morning. What made an good impression was that my server Sofia went and brought back the manager Jose to apology. It wasn't a deal for us but I appreciated them for the kind gesture. Hostess with the mostest... sass. Would've given five stars because the food and our server was excellent but the hostess was so rude and hella shady. Yelp originally told us our wait would be 45-hr. When we arrived, 40 minutes after joining the yelp to check in, the hostess informed us that there were only 5 tables ahead of us and it shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes. What a lie that was. We sat outside for 45 minutes in the 100 degree hot Texas weather (25 minutes past the yelp time and 35 minutes past when the hostess had told it would take). During the 45 minutes of waiting I went in twice to ask about the eta and see if there was any updates and both times I was met with attitude. I put our name on the list through Yelp 54-74 prior to our arrival and we still had to wait another 35 minutes when we arrived at the restaurant. They should not offer that if they are not truly going to abide by it. It was very disappointing and annoying. On a brighter note, every waitress we have had has been wonderful. They had great attitudes and were super nice. They took a little while to come over to our table at first but that is completely understandable for a busy restaurant. The food was delicious, and I guess I would say worth the wait. Probably because there isn't a place like this in college station. We showed up on Monday at noon and it was a 20 minute wait. Knowing this restaurant is always busy regardless of what day of the week it is. The hostess recommended me making a reservation through the Yelp app. So next time that's what I will do to cut down my wait time. I had their Mexican style street hash off of the seasonal menu. I've been to First Watch in the past, but at this location I just stopped by to grab a nourishing drink to-go for my long drive that morning out of town. Luckily, I wasn't waiting for a table because at 8am on Saturday, this place is hopping! I was able to place my order for a Morning Meditation, which is basically a juice made with oranges, lemons, turmeric, ginger, agave nectar and beets. With a long drive ahead, I didn't want a caffeine or sugar crash, so this was the way to go. Each time I've visited First Watch, I've had to wait on a weekend - weekday mornings are much easier and quieter (for obvious reasons). The drink kept me going strong without feeling like I needed to stop for a snack each time I needed to gas up the car! I was primarily disappointed by the lack of flavor in the dishes. I got their popular farmhouse skillet hash which came with potatoes, bacon, avocados topped with an egg made your way. I opt for over-easy which they did well. Too much potato. Pretty dry. I love skillet hash, so I was fairly underwhelmed. I could say the same with their coffee... I would like to go back to try other dishes to get a better idea I did love First Watch's presentation and its million dollar "millionaire" bacon. The interior screams cute and modern with a tinge of southern flair. I found it inviting and attractive place for date, friends' brunch, or even family breakfast. A fine place for completely decadent over the top breakfasts. Less obviously, a fine place for healthy good-for-you breakfasts. First Watch has both gears. The General Public wants super-rich super-caloric tons of meat, tons of waffle, tons of sugar, tons of starch yummy breakfasts. First Watch can TOTALLY do this. As I sat down at the table to completely indulge my senses, I noticed the gentleman next to me who barely fit between the table and the bench. He had to walk with a cane because his knees had given out because of all of the weight. I asked myself if I wanted to be immobile and in pain because of my weight. Easy call. I opted for the virtuous route. First Watch is fully aware of the trade-off between decadent sensuality and living healthy. While they do give you all the fun options (and their fun options really ARE fun), they also post calorie counts next to all of the dishes on the menu. The blackboard specials included both Pork Belly Cheesy Grits and a Kale Tonic. Samuel C's recommendation for healthy living: DO NOT take them up on their yummy default option of giving you beautiful thick slices of whole grain toast, or lovely skillet potatoes on the side. They are completely happy to swap out those carb and calorie hogs for field greens with vinaigrette. The field greens with vinaigrette are excellent. The greens themselves are great and the dressing is heavy with garlic which means heavy with flavor. My main dish was a frittata with smoked salmon, sauteed onions and yogurt. An absolutely superior omelet - the best I have had in years. The salmon was excellent salmon - full of taste. It was salty the way breakfast fish is supposed to be. The onions were mellow. The acidic creamy yogurt was the perfect foil. The execution of the eggs themselves was top of the line. I had the perfect breakfast. Well, nearly perfect. Unlike nearly other upscale breakfasts place on the planet, they do NOT offer Espresso, Latte, Cappuccino or other labor-intensive one-at-a-time coffee drinks. They just give you a pot of drip coffee. This CAN be a plus - given the fact that regular coffee gives you twice the caffeine of an espresso. So a full pot of drip coffee should have you flying out of the restaurant caffeinated to the gills and charged for your day. Unfortunately, their drip coffee is not very good. Why is their the drip coffee not very good? Their water is not very good. I found this out the hard way when I had a glass of ice water straight up. It was NOT as bad as the old IHOP used to be. (IHOP used to serve chemically chlorinated awfulness.) But the water is NOT as good as what you get in a health food restaurant or one of those places that brags about its wonderful all natural perfect water. I suspect the choice of filters is the issue. Note that water not only contributes to the taste of coffee, but it contributes to the taste of pancake and waffle batter. You do not need to hope for management to invest in new filters. There is a simpler solution than that. Add half and half to the coffee. With half and half, the coffee is perfectly respectable. Still, I would have preferred a good strong black coffee :.( * * * But Samuel C - if you didn't like the water - why did you give the place five stars? Try the omelets. Try the salad. You will see what I am talking about. In nearly every regard, First Watch is the perfect breakfast place. If you harp and harp and harp on single faults in otherwise good places or good people, You will never get married, and you will never stay married. We had a party of 8 but the limit online says 7. We called and they said to make it for 7 and they'll make us a table for 8...which makes no sense but it worked out I guess. I got the farmhouse skillet hash wig sunny side up eggs on potatoes with bacon and avocado and it came with toast. I also ordered an iced coffee and it was the perfect combo of sweet and bitter. One of my great friends was in town so we decided to treat ourselves to this little place. Wait was not that bad, about 10 minutes close to lunch on a Monday. His scrambled eggs were too dry and under seasoned and he was given like 2 slices of bacon that were really small and were cold and probably old. Came here based on Yelp reviews and a desire to have some flexible, healthy options. Generally, I'm a fan, with some reservations. First -- the atmosphere at FW is great for breakfast. Casual but nice and airy. With school out, we didn't have any of the waits that I suspect are the norm on a Saturday morning during the school year. Staff is friendly, and was helpful throughout our visit. While the menu at FW leans maybe a little too hard towards hipness for my tastes, you can't argue with the variety of options available here. The house coffee is definitely better than average -- a big plus in my book (along with the to-go cups readily offered by our waiter). I opted for the Trifecta, a straightforward combination of bacon, eggs, and a banana granola pancake. The bacon was of good quality, but was a bit dry and overcooked, something that would have been less of a surprise later in the morning. The eggs (over easy) were also slightly overcooked and dry, but still fine. The pancake was fantastic, with the granola maintaining its crunchiness throughout. My companion's frittata was good, though there seemed to be an excessive amount of onions within (to be clear, we love onions, but this was not an onion frittata). While there were a few hiccups with our food, overall our meal was a good one, and we'd certainly return. Prices are higher than your typical breakfast place, but we knew that going in. My one money gripe is the avocado toast (a favorite of ours for breakfast). Yes, I know it comes with two eggs, but almost $10 for avocado toast reminds me a bit of some wine lists. read more

Every time I come to College Station to visit friends I want to eat here, but the wait is always insanely long. This morning I checked in online and waited at home which is definitely the way to go. If you're hungover and wanting some delicious and healthy food, this is the place to go. Wake up at 9, get in line on Yelp, and you'll be eating brunch by 11. We couldn't decide what to order, so we got a bunch of different things. Their Kale Tonic is absurdly delicious. My husband hates all my weird juices, but he loved this one. The cold brew coffee seemed a little weak to me, but it was still good. I highly recommend the farm fresh tacos. My husband really enjoyed his bacon omelet. We tried their French toast as well which was incredible. The wait staff was busy, but pleasant and attentive. I can DEFINITELY see why this place is constantly so packed.
