    Quinoa bowl

I was able to attend the soft opening at First Watch with my sister and it was wonderful. Everyone from the hostess's our waitress (Dakota) to other staff members walking around were so attentive, friendly and helpful. It was a very warm welcome. We started with the million dollar bacon which everyone needs to order because it was so delicious- the right amount of crisp and sweet and savory to kick off the meal. We ordered the egg sandwich and a quinoa bowl and honestly the bowl stole the show. You never know what you're going to get- flavor wise- with bowls so my expectations weren't too high but I was blown away. It had so much flavor and we had plenty to take home as well. The potatoes on the side for our sand which were top 5 I've ever had. The drinks were refreshing- my lavender one wasn't too sweet and the Bloody Mary was on point. So happy to have a new breakfast joint in Bastrop!!

Came here after church with my husband for brunch. We arrived before 10am and there was already a 20-30 minute wait, but luckily there were two open seats at the bar that we snagged instead of waiting. I had two mimosas (a little pricey for $10 each) and my husband had two bloody Mary's (same price). Hoping they eventually offer pitchers of mimosas (like they do with sangria). He ordered the chickichanga and enjoyed it, I had the trifecta plate with upgraded lemon ricotta pancake and million dollar bacon, and it was yummy! Nice to see another breakfast spot in Bastrop!

We were lucky to snag reservations for the soft opening of First Watch in Bastrop, and everything was fantastic! The food was as fresh and delicious as always- I've loved every First Watch location I've visited. We started with the Million Dollar Bacon (bacon with brown sugar syrup and cayenne pepper- so good!), then shared the Elevated Egg Sandwich with potatoes to die for and the flavorful Power Breakfast Bowl. Drinks were on point too, with a Bloody Mary and Spiked Lavender Lemonade. Service was excellent, and this spot is such a great addition to Bastrop!

Bright comfortable restaurant with outdoor patio seating. They do have alcoholic beverages, and mimosas.

And the place is a time machine, rolling back the decades. Little has changed here in the past three quarters of a century, which makes it very charming. They have farm-fresh eggs, locally-grown salad greens, sausage, cheese, breakfast tacos, baked-from-scratch pop tarts, Texas pretzel bread and other items in this small store, without feeling crowded. At the coffee bar, I had a cortado (Spain's take on a cappuccino -- equal parts espresso and steamed milk) along with a little chocolate truffle. We also picked up some Opa Klein's amazing summer sausage and a six pack of Stash IPA to go. We're coffee snobs. We'll be back for the best cuppa joe in town, at a minimum. Special thanks to Mike K (one of Tracy's baristas) for telling us about this place as he serenaded us during brunch at downtown restaurant. He's a very talented guy, and very proud to be associated with this quaint and historic Bastrop fixture. You know you're doing something right as a business owner when your staff naturally delivers your best and most effective marketing, just from the sheer enthusiasm and pride of working there. So, yeah, it's a tiny little time warp, but it's well run and worth coming to, especially if you're into great coffee.

Boring Bodega - entrance to hyperloop plaza

My friend works as an engineer at SpaceX, and I've always been curious and wanted to do the tour…read more Unfortunately, they require 72 hours' notice to get approved for a pass. Since it was my last day in town and I was headed to the airport later, we didn't have enough time to arrange it. Instead, he suggested taking me to Boring Bodega, which is located literally across the street from the SpaceX Bastrop Facility, so at least I could snap a few photos from there. I was seriously confused at first because pulling up to Boring Bodega feels a little like stumbling into a pop-up oasis in the middle of rural Texas. This place looks more like the entrance to a country fair than a cafe. Off to the side, a row of food trucks greets you like an informal welcome committee, their colorful signs and picnic tables giving the place a casual, anything-goes vibe. Lol. Then you walk inside... and suddenly it makes sense. Boring Bodega is a unique "future fancy" grocery store and community hub located in the heart of Hyperloop Plaza. Owned by Elon Musk's Boring Company, the place blends like a full-service market with a modern, tech-forward aesthetic. Think Silicon Valley startup energy meets Texas roadside market. Walking aisle to aisle, you realize this place has a little bit of everything going on. One section feels like a boutique grocery market, stocked with high quality snacks, pantry staples, and grab and go foods. Another aisle carries drinks of every kind like sodas, energy drinks, sparkling waters plus a massive beer and wine selection. They even have shelves dedicated to pet food and pet supplies, which makes sense because people seem to hang out here for a while. Toward the back you'll find a his & hers barber shop, which caught me completely off guard in what I initially thought was just a convenience store. There are also spaces designed for community hangouts and games, and outside you'll spot pickleball courts, making it feel less like a store and more like a social hub for the surrounding tech campus. My friend also mentioned something pretty cool. Apparently, there's a tunnel employees can take from inside SpaceX that connects underground to Hyperloop Plaza, so employees there can pop over here without even going outside. Not sure if that's insider privilege or just peak Elon-universe infrastructure, but it definitely adds to the whole futuristic vibe of the place. And yes--they also do made to order sandwiches and light cafe items. Since it was my last day before heading to the airport, my friend and I grabbed a quick lunch here. I ordered the $10 Falafel Veggie Pita and my friend went with the $13 Carne Asada Protein Bowl. The portions were massive and the quality was fresh. Overall, Boring Bodega is one of those places that defies easy categorization. It's part grocery store, part cafe, part hangout, and part tech campus convenience hub all sitting across the street from SpaceX in Bastrop.

Three quarters of the building was dark. The building is already odd enough. It would make sense to convert a warehouse, but to build a new warehouse building in hopes of creating a store and hangout area is strange. My husband thought it was fine, so I guess that's what you get when a man (especially Elon Musk) attempts interior design. I like how they offer unique healthy snacks. However, this time I decided to try food from their hot food counter. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, which is one of my favorite foods. You could add meat to it for an upcharge, but I wanted to see how it was as a pure grilled cheese first. It was underwhelming, but only $6, so I'm not too salty about it. It is basically a panini with just cheese, and the bread to cheese ratio is off. Not enough cheese. However, with meat, as a traditional panini, it would probably be pretty good. I think the bread was sourdough. There was a short wait for the sandwich, which made it almost as convenient as any of the prepackaged snacks.

And they offer both options every day/all day, which is great. She'll come back with her sister to enjoy it again. I had two breakfast tacos: one with egg, sausage and cheese and the other with migas. I really loved the migas. While the first taco was unremarkable, the migas was great. It was perfect, in fact. And it really celebrates their home made corn and flour tortillas. The only thing I didn't like was the salsa. It tasted like canned tomatoes and it was a wee bit salty and not very spicy. I really liked the migas, though. It was made with fresh jalapeño and had just the right amount of heat without needing any salsa. So I think this is one of those places that does some things very well... enough to build up a solid base of regulars, even though some of their other offerings were disappointing, like improperly reheated enchiladas. But if you know what to order, you can really enjoy this place. Oddly enough, they have chorizo on the menu, but don't list it among the available proteins on the breakfast taco menu, which I personally find very strange. Chorizo and egg is such an iconic breakfast taco offering. I'll bet they'd do it justice.
