We have been to this location (McEwen in Franklin Tn) several times. The last time they hard boiled the poached eggs on a Benedict. This morning we sat for an hour before our food was delivered. Our server never checked on us. Finally a runner brought our food. Both our plates were stone cold, the bacon we orders was drenched in grease and this time the whites of the poached eggs were not cooked. We did speak with the server who tried to make it right but at that time we were done. We didn't have to pay but we wasted well over an hour. We will never go back. read more

My first time there and what a huge disappointment! I was so excited to order the Florentine Bendedict. The Benedict was supposed to come with poached eggs and what I received were eggs that were so runny with whites uncooked that they ran off the plate. The wobbly egg mess was near the edge of the plate when the waitress put it on the table and she said "oh sorry you have a runaway egg there." When I went to cut into the egg the table was so uneven it shook and the egg slipped off my plate and onto the table. Our waitress never came back so another waitress brought me another egg. Totally not worth the $11 spent. On the way out the host asled how everything was and I said "the eggs were awful" and her reply was "yeah we get that a lot." How awful must your eggs be that you tell the customers "oh yeah we hear this all the time." I emailed the company and never heard anything. Yay! A healthy breakfast place! Doesn't feel like I'm leaving with a layer of grease on my body! Very bright and clean, nice chill vibe. Doesn't feel hectic, but it is a busy place. Very amazing menu. Lots of yummy choices. They aren't basic but they're also not weird. If that makes sense. Breakfast and lunch options. Seems like everything is made to order? They have nice fresh juice options too! I looove fresh juice, so any place with this option is my best friend. I often find myself grossed out by most breakfast places. First watch is an exception! We've tried to give this location the benefit of the doubt multiple times now - but the service here is horrendous. Today, we got our order in 30 minutes - our server didn't bring silverware - the person delivering the food we ask for silverware - after waiting a couple of minutes - I ask the host for silverware and I kid you not he said "your server will have to get those for you". To which I informed him she's waiting on a table and we ask the food deliverer too like 2 minutes ago but whatever. A couple of minute go by and they finally delivered silverware - it almost felt begrudgingly. We're done with this location - we won't return - the service is terrible for such an expensive breakfast - to the host: Go find something else to do, you stink at your job. I read the reviews and thought, "This place has good reviews. They must be decent." Turns out It's a chain. In a town full of people who apparently have extremely low standards for breakfast food and service. I should have known better. Plus the wait was 30+ minutes. After all, there's nothing better than waiting in line for shitty food served by apathetic wait staff. Duh. That's the dream amongst restaurant goers everywhere. Scrambled eggs were severely overcooked, yet still managed to come out cold. My wife's over easy eggs came out hard, aka overcooked. It's a good thing they changed their name from "The Good Egg" to First Watch. Maybe that's WHY they changed their name, because they refuse to produce good eggs, thus, didn't want to create further confusion amongst the masses. Our waiter was prompt and accurate, but was equally as cold and un-engaging. Never once saw him smile. Odd really. I felt more like an inconvenience than a valued customer. "Get em in, get em out" seemed like the customer service model they are pulling from. Too bad really. It wouldn't take much to make this spot ten fold better. My recommendation? So with our new-found hankering for a breakfast-lunch hybrid of a meal, we trekked to the First Watch. Yes, there was a wait, but they also gave us coffee while we waited. Yes, the food was expensive, but the quality was fit for royalty (someone REALLY important... like let's say the entire band "Queen") HOWEVER. It was a little too pricy for me, hence the four star ranking. So bring a few $$ more maybe? So. Should you fulfill your inner soccer-mom and eat at First Watch? O.M.G. This place was DELICIOUS and fresh! no waiting line. (which is sign of a good place to eat) Friendly server. We were in town for business and someone recommended to have a late breakfast/lunch here. We weren't disappointed on the experience. By seeing other reviews, apparently there are other First Watch, for us this is our 1st time we seen or heard of them. Pricey YES. Good YES. Fresh YES. and if we ever come across one again, I will try it again. We had the eggs benedict (Florentine and Salmon) and the million dollar bacon and to finish it up, we had a simple Belgium waffle as dessert.-when a girl brought the waffle and asked if we needed anything else?- I said. On the road leaving Nashville, we stopped here for a quick bite. Read about their award winning breakfast/brunch/lunch. First I must say that Yelp spotted this place in the wrong mall. Once we got off the freeway, we saw it immediately and therefore didn't drive to where the GPS told us to. As we had our big dog with us, we had to look for a place that had outdoor seating. And this place had like 6 tables with big square umbrella at each table. So that was great for us. We were quickly seated and waters for us and dog came very quickly too. Almost immediately in fact. Then came coffee. We looked through the menu and I decidd on 1+1 lunch, this consisted of a bowl of soup and a sandwich. I had the tomato basil soup and chose a ham & Gruyere sandwich all for $7.79 (or maybe less - Not sure). Our meals came rather quickly too, My husband had the Chicken Salad melt. Something I couldn't eat as it contained nuts in the salad. Overall, both our breakfasts were tasty, the coffee was not watery like most, It had strong flavor. First visit today! It will not be the last! My 4 friends and I went for breakfast around 9:30 am on a Sunday. It was packed. We had about a 30 minute wait. They have coffee and water provided for your wait. Our waiter was fantastic but I forgot to get his name. Between us we ordered the carrot cake pancakes, power wrap, avocado toast, grits with bacon and poached egg. We also had a bowl of fruit and the million dollar bacon. Not one complaint. We couldn't even finish it all. The carrot cake pancakes had raisins and nuts. Freaking delicious with warm maple syrup. The million dollar bacon was coated with brown sugar, maple syrup and paprika. Order it. Trust me. The avocado toast was piled with chunky avocado. The fruit was all hand cut. Not generic fruit salad. Kiwi, watermelon, strawberries, grapes, fresh pineapple, honey dew, blue berries, and bananas. I can't say enough good things. Give it a try! read more

The food is of a high quality with above average serving quantities, but not 'huge' portions (this fits in line with them being a healthier option dining location). My qualms are the following: 1- wait time. We waited 40 minutes. However the entire time we waited, there were always open tables!!! In fact, the entire time we ate, I watched people waiting, even though the restaurant was becoming more empty. I believe they are creating artificial wait times to enforce this being the 'in' place to eat... Boo! 2- They were out of their specialty pancake. Not for the day... The week!!! What!?!? 3- the bathroom was out of towels to dry your hands (maybe I'm being critical here... After the partially false waiting line, this rubbed me wrong :-) 4- our server was friendly yet aloof. We were out of water for 5+ minutes (finally my son had to ask for refills). We had to ask for a check. Our table was full of empty plates for over 15 minutes. On and on... 4.5- to be fair, I heard another server go above and beyond with her table. Unfortunately, this is based on my service experience not perception of another's... The good: 1- The food! I ordered the Quinoa Kale Lemon Chicken Pesto salad. (I asked for it minus the chicken & they took $1 off when I asked if they could discount for no meat). It was uber tasty! The quinoa and kale were prepared perfectly! They had crushed tomato and seasoning... My taste buds danced!!!! We also split two pancakes: carrot cake and banana granola. They were cooked just right. Warm, fluffy yet hearty... No lack of topping here! Our kids opted to split a turkey bacon sandwich with a side of fruit. They enjoyed! 2- The ambiance. For a small space with tables being very close together, I never felt claustrophobic or crunched. 3- Waiting App They have an app you can download to track how many people are in front of you... This is handy! I'll say that I rate this location lower than the Naples, FL location and higher than the Brentwood location for food flavoring and quality, however the whole "enforced wait" thing I observed may be enough to keep me away!!! A nice breakfast/brunch alternative for Franklin. Seems very efficiently run, and while there was a wait, it was exactly the time that was promised, and I respect that. This is not a very hands-on restaurant in terms of your server, but when they leave a coffee pot and a pitcher of water, I'm totally OK with that. Carrot cake pancakes were good, very good even. Not the best I've ever had in my entire life, but good. Sorry, Cracker Barrel still beats them in my book unless I am in Folly Beach, SC and visit Lost Dog Cafe. Sausage is the plump links, I like that, too. And you've got to respect their coffee creamer a) quantity on the table and b) selection on the table. I very much enjoy First Watch. The name is deceiving. I didn't know it wasn't a weight watchers place until yelping for brunch selections. I would give the place 5 stars, but they don't offer mimosas or bloody marys for brunch. This place is, however, open every morning. So, technically, it's a breakfast spot with lunch selections. Their freshly squeezed orange juice was a huge plus. Thankfully, they offered 100% pure maple syrup to drizzle over my sourdough French Toast. I'd go here any day of the week! read more

I am going to make a long story short. I visited this restaurant last month for my birthday. It was a disappointment. I reviewed it as such on Yelp and their website Patty Maree contacted me and sent a gift card to compensate for this visit. I went there today and it was a 360 degree difference. When I saw a First Watch opening in a new strip mall in Cool Springs, I didn't know what it was. A coworker told me that it was a restaurant chain, a favorite of his for breakfast and brunch. I went not longer after it opened to try it out. It was clean, sunny, and full of people; exactly how a delicious breakfast spot should be! We were seated immediately on a Saturday morning. We had a great server who was fast and kind. I chose the Breakfast Scramble minus Hollandaise sauce: scrambled eggs, spinach, ham, cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese on multigrain toast. It came with a side of their seasoned potatoes and fresh fruit. It was all delicious, and I was really impressed that it wasn't greasy like many breakfast platters. It all tasted fresh and hot. There are at least ten other things that I want to try on the First Watch menu, so I know I'll be back soon! It's close to my office, so I may even make it a favorite lunch spot. Been wanting to try this place out since they opened, and after a handful of unsuccessful attempts at even finding a parking spot in the entire lot, we finally decided to tackle the crowd by going a little earlier on a rainy Saturday morning. Even today we were quoted a 25 minute wait, which was about how long we actually waited to be seated. I debated between 3 and 4 stars, because I there are plenty of things I like here. But I gave them 3 because of the few things I think I would like to see improved. The service was friendly and pretty attentive considering how busy they were. I like that they have variety of menu items, including healthy choices. And they appear to use all fresh and local ingredients when available. They serve fresh squeezed OJ which was really good. I like that they also leave you a pot of coffee instead of having to wait on refills. However, I tasted my husband's cup and didn't really like the flavor of the coffee today. I ordered the Chimichanga, which was served piping hot and was delicious. It was more like a burrito, filled with eggs, white meat chicken, chorizo, onions, green chilies cheese, and avocado. I would have liked more eggs and less meet, but that's just my preference as I really didn't taste the eggs in it very much. It was topped with their vera cruz sauce which was delicious as well as some sour cream. My husband had the Bacado omelet, which had bacon, avocado, and cheese and served with sour cream and salsa. It was also cooked perfectly and was very good. I was a bit disappointed with the seasoned potatoes. You can tell they were sitting under a warmer because they weren't hot like the chimichanga and omelet. And the side of fruit was two pieces of pineapple and one piece of melon packed in a tiny cup with a few tiny grapes. I didn't ask, but next time, if they allow substitution, I'll get an English muffin or something instead of the potatoes. Overall, I was pleased and will return. I love pancakes but didn't try them on this visit. They looked really good from what I could tell. And I'm glad I saw them on other's plates, because they are really large, and one will likely fill me up. And I like that they actually let you order 1, 2, or 3 at a time! The main squeeze and I came here after a birthday getaway celebration and condolence breakfast. Mouthful huh? Well Cliff turns 33 tomorrow (celebrated yesterday) but LSU lost to Alabama last night. Last night we graced Cajun Steamers for the first half of the game, drank a little and took it back to the hotel for the rest of the night. I needed a slight hangover breakfast but mainly me, for Cliff he was eating his feelings. Now that that's out of the way, we looked up on our trusty yelp app and found this was only 8 mins from our hotel. We saw the place was crowded but took it as a sign when we got prime real estate for parking. We were told it'd be about a 15 min wait, as we saw about 10 people in front of us. I asked if we could have coffee while we wait and whattaknow there's a coffee kiosk who handy-dandy little cups for your sipping/waiting pleasure. And ..... Newspapers galor! then, bam! It was Our turn to be seated, we waited a total of 5 mins. Other than the fact I had to have my back to a little walk through because there were no booths open was the only negative but you get your own coffee pot and water pitcher! We both decided on the Tri-fecta (definitely recommend). You get two eggs your way, one pancake/Belgium waffle (of any kind - it's huge!) and either bacon or sausage (turkey sausage available). I got over medium, extra sour dough toast, blue berry multigrain pancake, and turkey sausage. Cliff got the same but scrambled with cheese and waffle. Both got fresh orange juice so delicious and smooth. Oh and two orders of bacon. He's into that and can do that :-/ came out in perfect timing for us to chit chat about our night and plans for the day and then in First Watch fashion just in the nick of time before our hunger pains struck again. Let me say first that we have visited First Watch on McEwen in Franklin many times, and were very pleased but this last time took the cake. On this occasion it was not that busy. We've seen it lots worse. We were there about an half an hour before finally receiving our order to find it cold. We told the waitress and she said she would take it back and reheat it, but could not make any promises when we would get our order again. No sorry for your inconvenience-nothing. we did decide to send it back, but waited another 15 minutes without receiving our order so we got up to leave. I told the cashier we were leaving and her response was, You have to pay for your meal. REALLY!? How do we pay for something we never received? And where was the customer service? Great brunch! This is our first time at the Franklin location but we had been to one before in Columbus Ohio. We didn't even know they had a location here and we're pleasantly surprised when we saw it. I had the eggs Benedict and my fiancée had two blueberry pancakes. The portions are HUGE and everything is very flavorful. The prices aren't bad either. $18 before a tip for both dishes and a coffee. We will definitely be back. Probably my new favorite brunch place in the Nashville area. read more

First Watch is good. But it's not great. Many diners don't know the difference. Many don't care and that's the right and choice of the diner. When the establishment doesn't care to be great, and settles for good, I wander off to other places in search of excellence. It's the fundamentals that make the distinction. Here are three. Don't ever make a guest ask to have a refill on drinks. Diners tip for service and that service doesn't just mean you take an order and deliver it. You provide continual service throughout the meal. This means keeping coffee cups filled. Not one time during my recent visit did the server return and not once did he leave a pot on the table. Second, don't EVER deliver a meal until ALL orders for diners at a table are ready. Then bring them all at the same time. Yesterday, 3 out of 4 were served and they ate uncomfortably while the fourth sat without food--simple eggs over medium and sausage--because they forgot. Finally, don't ever serve food that has cooled because no one had time to deliver it. Fortunately this was not a sin of First Watch during yesterday's visit. But the first two were. And have been before. Shall I return and forgive? Perhaps. But not before wandering elsewhere for awhile. Maybe great breakfast places are hiding in the shadows.
