I wish that I could give this place 0 stars. DO NOT COME HERE!!! Sadly, it was one of the very few breakfast places that were on opened this morning which led to a very long wait. When we finally got seated our waitress took 15 minutes to ask our drink order not to mention how long it took her to actually bring the drinks. Once she took our order we didn't see her for a long time. She didn't come to refill our drinks or get us more coffee. When the food FINALLY came out, after waiting an HOUR AND A HALF the eggs Benedict (what I got) was delicious but my boyfriend's food came out at different times. Then when he finally got his pancake the waitress failed to bring his syrup and since she hadn't come back in 10 minutes we had to go up to the kitchen and ask another waitress if she could get him the syrup. While we were waiting in line to pay we also heard other families/ couples having the same complaints. Very disappointing would NOT recommend. read more

First Watch is a great place to grab brunch. I've experienced the weekend crowd and the weekly crowd. I've been seated quickly each time and the service is always quick. I gave First Watch a four because I think their menu has so much variety, but offers limited substitutions. I've ordered a variety of items and never felt blown away by the taste or presentation of the food. Coffee drinkers - they have a variety of small creamers! Try the pumpkin creamer, loved it in their coffee. Great place, but after giving it two chances I'll probably find a new place with better options and creativity in the food. So I went up 30 mins later and they said they took me off the list because supposedly I never came up when they called me but I was literally sitting right infront of them. Saw this place here on yelp and decided to check it out. I was suprised their was no wait on a Sunday morning. The food was amazing! Tried the million dollar bacon which paired well with coffee. I've been to this location a few times. Today it took almost fifteen minutes to get seated. Then another fifteen minutes for our drink order to get taken. This was our first time dining at a First Watch. The restaurant was very busy (busier than usual it seems after eavesdropping on the wait-staff) which led to slow and forgetful service. We only had a short wait for a table. The food was great. My eggs came out as scrambled instead of poached, which the waitress acknowledged as she put the plate down. I assured her that this was fine and I was just a s happy with scrambled. The kitchen sent poached eggs out a minute later which was nice of them. The food is not expensive, there is a lot of it, and it is very very good. I am usually a guy who likes diner type breakfasts, and First Watch basically takes all of the grease and fat out of breakfast and replaces it with fresh locally grown healthy substitutes. I had the omelette which came with probably the best multi-grain toast I've ever had. My girlfriend got the avocado toast which is piled high with avocado. The only problem I had was the waitress was clearly very rushed. She did not greet us or even try to be nice, she asked for our orders and only came around with the check. I would give First Watch 5 stars it wasn't for our waitresses poor attitude. read more

I was not impressed with the service nor the food. My colleagues and I went there for lunch. The FIVE of us were seated at a booth more suited for four-- purses, winter coats and all. Just a few feet away, a table set for six sat empty. Why? The food was very average. I can make a better omelette and hashbrowns at home. Normally on Sundays, we go to Patachou for breakfast. With Comic Con, marathons, and St. Patrick's day festivities in town, there was consequently an hour long wait at our favorite place. We were pretty hungry, and First Watch was only a 15 minute wait, so we decided this was the perfect opportunity to try a new place. Unfortunately, we never got to try the food! After about a 20 minute wait in the dining room, it took us another 15 minutes to get coffee. We never saw our waitress after that. We left and walked back to Patachou just in time to finish our hour wait and snag a table. You had a chance to snag a customer from the best breakfast joint in the city, and you failed miserably. While visiting just outside of Indianapolis, I wanted to venture to downtown Indy for some breakfast. I went to trusty old Yelp to see what's been generally rated good and First Watch came up on the list. I liked the pictures of some of the menu items that were shown so I was easily convinced. I drove to Indy and parked at a nearby parking garage which gave me a scary experience as I was leaving which is neither here or there for this First Watch review. I may have to review that garage to see if others had a similar experience....but anyways back to FW. As I approached First Watch, I immediately knew I would potentially be in for a long wait since there was quite a crowd waiting to be seated. I was my usual 'Party of One' so I was hoping that would be an advantage in the wait game like it is most places. Alas though there wasn't a "bar" area in the restaurant for solo diners so I was out of luck there. The friendly host who doubled as cashier and occasional table cleaner told me it would be a 15 - 20 minute wait. I had a feeling that was just the standard answer given regardless of actual time. But I was hungry and curious about the food so I waited. During my entire 25 minute (so five minutes over...*LOL*) wait, I noted there was a table right to the other side of me with dishes from the last patrons that haven't been cleared. It seemed like they had enough staff but maybe some of them were hiding out in the kitchen or was on a prolonged smoke break. Who knows? Oddly enough the host sat me at what he termed a "community table" (assume that was a joke...good one) It basically was a table for 8 and he told me understandably that I may have neighbors sitting at the table as well. That was fine with me as I was hungry and I couldn't imagine sitting by myself in such a big table. I did note patrons staring at me as I was sitting by my lonesome. Way to make my solo status stand out, First Watch...*LOL*. My server was quite busy serving other customers (maybe they are short staffed) but within five minutes he did cheerfully come by to ask if I wanted some of their coffee. Not being a coffee drinker I opted for hot chocolate. The server asked if I wanted all the trimmings, which included whip cream and chocolate syrup. I went for it. Another five minutes came before I got the hot chocolate, which was fine. At that point I decided to order their Shrimp & Grits dish, after going back and forth on a couple other offerings that caught my eye. He did a bit of an upsell by asking if I wanted some fresh squeezed orange juice with my Shrimp & Grits. Something told me I should go for it so I went along with it. That wound up being a good choice since the juice sat by its lonesome for more than 20 minutes before my food came up. In that time my community table added a family of four. Thankfully that was as far as the community went. Also by that time the host had finally found time to go to the kitchen to fetch someone to clear off the dishes from the aforementioned table I referenced earlier. He definitely had his hands full dealing with the morning crowd so my hats off to him. The main dish came up and drew the attention of a couple of my community members. The Shrimp & Grits looked fine though nothing like the picture on the website. What it lacked in looks more than made up for it in taste. Dare I say it was one of the best grits I've tasted in a breakfast establishment. It was extremely flavorful with each bite, unlike the bland grits I usually get served the few times I order it at other establishments. It almost had a New Orleans flair to it since in addition to shrimp, it had andouille sausage, red peppers, corn, and onions with cheddar parmesan. My long forgotten juice wound up being a good compliment to the Shrimp & Grits. Overall I enjoyed my breakfast and it gave me enough fuel to trek it through downtown Indy. read more

This is a great breakfast place. I love that they have a wide array of options for days I'm looking for something healthy or a good cheat day. The hand full of times that I've been for brunch, it has been busy - full tables, and sometimes a wait. The staff was youthful and friendly. I visited yesterday just before noon, and we were sat immediately. We were quickly greeted and served our drinks. My boyfriend got a power bowl, which was delicious. I ordered the farmhouse hash, and it turns out the server had entered the wrong skillet. Once she brought it out, and I made her aware that it was incorrect, she quickly got the correct dish started. By the time I had my meal, my boyfriend was finished. She asked if we wanted to take home the misorder, but we declined as breakfast doesn't always hold up for leftovers. She didn't comp the meal for her mistake. While this was a less than ideal visit, the quality of the food is excellent, and we will be back. read more

The waiter was nice enough to come back a few times as my friend and I were chatty and got distracted from looking at the menu. I got the Key West Crepeggs and it was an interesting and delicious combination. I like the crunchiness of the crèpe with the fluffiness of the egg and the creamy texture from the avocado. First watch is your basic quick stop brunch place. The service is always quick. The coffee is mediocre. Go for the day glow juice instead! It is extremely refreshing. I like first watch because they offer many different healthy options. Definitely a wider variety of choices as opposed to a pancake house. But you can get pancakes if you want them too! I usually stick with the omlets. I like this location because it is centrally located downtown and the staff is always professional. read more

When I was recently in Indianapolis, my family and I were looking for a quick, delicious and cheap breakfast spot near downtown. I hopped on Yelp and (selfishly) typed "Eggs Benedict" into the search bar to find the best Indianapolis had to offer. First Watch was one of the first results and we barely finished looking at the online menu before we were out the door. Upon arriving, the first thing that struck me about the restaurant was how much it reminded me of Eat 'n Park -- a popular diner-style restaurant back home in Pittsburgh. Everything from the decor to the cheerful employees was strikingly similar. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't too busy even though it was prime breakfast time during a popular race weekend. I had eyed up the Turkey and Avocado Eggs Benedict on the online menu, but to my dismay it was not currently available in the restaurant. Instead, I opted for the Ham and Tomato Eggs Benedict, which comes with an order of breakfast potatoes. Our waitress offered us a variety of juices, coffee and tea, of which I selected the latter. I noticed that she never brought us waters, even though there were glasses for it on the table and other guests had a carafe on their table. This is where 1/2 of a star was lost. I was pleased that she offered tea, and provided a wide variety of green teas upon request, but the absence of water was disappointing. She only came to check on us one time and by that point we had already finished our meals and were ready for the check. About the dish itself, it was good though not the best Eggs Benny I've ever had. I loved the combination of the ham and tomato, but the egg was a tad under-poached and rather runny, almost inedible on my plate. I managed to pick around it and eat mostly the ham, tomato and English muffin before throwing in the cloth napkin. The under-poached egg is where the other half star was lost. It was obvious that the egg could've been cooked even a few more seconds, and I was honestly surprised that they served it as-is. Overall it was a good meal, the prices were great, and I would definitely visit again. To my surprise, there are two First Watch locations near me in Pittsburgh, so I'll definitely give one of those a shot to see if they A) have the elusive Turkey and Avocado Eggs Benedict and B) if I can have a more EGG-CELLENT poached egg experience. I'm not a frequent brunch-er, usually because there aren't many options for me (not eating eggs, meat or gluten pretty much knocks out the entire menu). With this restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised! They are very accommodating to any dietary needs. I ordered the Market Hash sans the poached eggs, and it was delicious. Well seasoned potatoes, a nice blend of vegetables, and an added punch with goat cheese. I also had a side of fruit, and since I forgoed the eggs, the server graciously threw in another side--free! The ambiance is quite comforting, except if you're seated outside it can get a bit busy with all the suits walking to and fro; however, no one will invade your bubble. Ate at First Watch one morning while in downtown Indy for a conference. Initially went here simply because it was the closest place to the skywalk system but was surprised with the quality of food in a largely tourist focused downtown area. I ordered the new cold brew coffee and carrot cake pancakes. The cold brew was one of the best I have ever had and the carrot cake pancakes were also excellent. Service was excellent as well. I made it clear when I entered that I needed to make this a quick visit and the staff were more than willing to accommodate me by moving the ordering process forward at a quick pace. read more

I'd been waiting to try First Watch so I'd sad to say it was a disappointment. There is a lot of variety on the menu and I selected the Turkey Chive crepe. That's eggs, turkey, spinach, house-roasted onions and Monterey Jack in a crepe topped with diced tomatoes, chives and hollandaise. Sounds amazing right? Well it didn't have that POP of flavor I was expecting. Also, they don't have orange marmalade. When I asked for it I was looked at like I was a three-headed vicious dog beast. With Patachou and Hoaglin downtown, I don't see myself frequently First Watch much. That said, I'll be sure to go back for another try. read more

While staying in downtown Indy on our last trip I walked down to First Watch Cafe and enjoyed The Traditional breakfast, which consisted of 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes, toast, sausage, bacon, or grilled ham steak. Price was very reasonable too. I ordered my eggs scrambled hard, sausage and multi-grain toast. It came out in minutes cooked fresh and hot. The multi-grain toast was really good...I dont know what they did to it, or what brand it was, but it was super tasty! I enjoyed my breakfast and hot chocolate and then walked back to the hotel with a full belly and a happy woman. Ill definitely go back when we're in town. read more

We loved going to First Watch in Kansas City. This place is very pedestrian... It's somewhat offensive that there is such a huge difference between the commercial photos on here and what you actually get. This has been one of my favorite places to eat. The food is always amazing and the service is always fast. However, when I was there yesterday for lunch, I saw something I found disturbing and wanted to share it. As I was checking out, a homeless woman entered the restaurant, requesting a glass of water. The women looked as if she could hardly breathe. A female employee acted nasty towards her, and was obviously outwardly frustrated and annoyed by her request, and refused to provide her the water. I am not sure of the policy. Perhaps water is for paying customers only. Either way, I feel like with the prices charged for food and drinks that First Watch earns enough to provide a free glass of water to someone in need. read more

I can never decide between sweet and savory so this way you can get the best of both worlds. The staff is always friendly! Both meals exceeded my expectations and the price was very reasonable for the quality of food I received. I'm not sure if this is a franchise, but I would definitely eat at this establishment again. Working right across the street from First Watch makes it a very convenient stop when I'm looking for better options than cafeteria-esque food. It's small and plainly decorated, but the staff is friendly and the food is filling! My personal favorite is the half-sandwich and bow l of soup lunch deal. It's around $9 with tax. Tomato basil soup never disappoints and its tasteful compliment is the half Reuben sandwich (at least on my check)! If you want a quick bite to eat and don't care about the 'pomp and circumstance' of some neighboring restaurants, give First Watch a try. read more

My husband and I came to downtown Indy for the weekend and wanted to have a tasty sit down breakfast before hitting the road back to Chicago. Having several options to choose from we decided to head in to the heart of downtown and eat at First Watch. It's a light and open cafe, lots of windows looking outside providing plenty of natural light into the restaurant. We went around 10:15a so the breakfast crowd was ending and lunch hadn't started yet. We were sat immediately, greeted by every staff member we walked past. Once sat our waitress offered coffee, water, tea.... And asked if we needed a moment to order. I ended up ordering the All American which was eggs, meat choice, potatoes and English muffin, a filling breakfast that was delicious! Everything was seasoned great and the waitress offered my husband a to-go coffee which was a nice touch. Would highly recommend for couples or families, we will be back. Also, the kitchen is sorta "open"'and it looked very clean and organized.... Nice to see considering you never know what's behind those double doors in a closed kitchen restaurant! read more
