You know, I'm glad I came here today because it was a refresher: there's nothing extraordinary about this place and the service is garbage. Our server came to our table a total of 3 times (wasn't even busy) and the last time was to hand us the check by the way. Served us food with no silverware, then received dirty silverware. Tonight's event was a Yelp sponsored event so the restaurant was filled with Yelpers. Great ambience, lots of excitement...oh and this breakfast/brunchy/lunchy spot has a BAR!! Location is Riverside. Great views of downtown actually. Nice location right near Fresh Market and Burger Fi. Inside is kinda rustic but not overly so. Washed wood mixed with white tile and gray slate, clean lines. Very nice atmosphere. We each got two drink tickets - I got my two right away before the line got crazy. I tried two of their pre-made drinks...I want to point out that they were pre-made because I think that might explain why they weren't that great even though they had great ingredients. I tried the Morning Glory and the Pomegranate Sunrise. I took pictures of the menu so you can see the ingredients. My guess is if they made them fresh they would have been much better, like I said, really great ingredients. So the food - it was a special menu and everyone at the table got a piece of everything they served. (Pictures!) They opened with candied BACON. I was trying to be polite but I could have eaten all of it and then licked the dish!!! Soooo yummy. It was sweet and salty plus it had this crusty, gummy texture that was perfect. Second dish was Avocado Toast with broken yolk eggs. Great concept although I thought the avocado was a tad bland. Very pretty dish! Good thickness to the toast, generous amount of avocado and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Third dish was...Pork Belly and grits. I don't like grits but my table mates said they were delicious. The Pork, though, was out of this world. It was thick and literally melted in my mouth. Again, being polite but damn I wanted to steal everyone's! Next was Lemon Curd Ricotta pancakes. Crap. I was really trying to stay away from the carbs...but this masterpiece was calling my name. Light, airy...the lemon curd added a nice twang to the sweet strawberries and the pancakes themselves had the good browned edges while being little fat and fluffy inside. The final course was a Cinnamon Swirl waffle - I left before it was served but since I'm the odd one that doesn't actually like Cinnabon or anything like it, I figured I wasn't missing too much! Normally this restaurant is pretty fresh but not so much my last visit. I ordered a tequila sunrise and that didn't come until mid way through my meal. My meal took a very long time and the food tasted as if it sat for 20 minutes before it was presented to me. The restaurant itself wasn't as busy as it could've been and that's why I don't understand why my service and food was terrible. Great place for brunch/breakfast downtown. Their menu is quite extensive which worried me a little but both our selections were great. While she got the avocado toast with eggs, I ordered the hash skillet with eggs, bacon, and cheese. Mimosas tasted great and the atmosphere is lively. The only complaint I had was the the time it took for our food to arrive. I know they are busy but not when we arrived. Definitely a must for brunch if you're in downtown Jacksonville. read more

We have been here several times but won't be in a hurry to return. It was uncomfortably cold when we walked in. I went back to the car for a jacket so ok. Husband ordered over easy eggs, potatoes, toast and turkey sausage. The sausage was only cooked on one side and cold in the middle. Potatoes barely room temperature, burnt but not hot. This post is in regards to their service. We never got the pleasure of eating here. This is the second time this weekend that we have tried to eat at a First Watch. The online reservation is pointless. And the unhappy employees who are discussing work matters at the front are rude. We were told we would have to wait another 5 min for them to clean tables, 10 minutes later when we addressed them when tables were clean they said we would have to wait another 3 min because the kitchen was backed up. What a great spot to grab breakfast! Their menu is filled with delicious selections including all the OG breakfast staples you know and love. Decor is inviting and has a fresh look and the staff was friendly. Portions were sized just right and the coffee was tasty and hot! I was excited to try First Watch but after our dining experience I just can't recommend this place. We came for brunch but weren't seated until it was after noon. We were told the wait was 30 minutes and in reality we waited at least 45 minutes to be seated. No a huge deal by itself but the service was less than mediocre, portion sizes much smaller expected without all advertised ingredients, and the cleaning procedures were less than average (cleaning tables but leaving used plates on them, no cleaning or disinfecting chairs or door handles and servers petting dogs and then going back to work without washing their hands.) We didn't even get a check to pay - we had to go up to the hostess stand and ask. Not worth it to us. read more

This is my second time visiting this location. I didn't enjoy them my first visit about a year ago and decided to give them another try today. I am not a huge breakfast person by far but the group I met after church loves this chain, I was however again disappointed. We waited over an hour for our food. Our server didn't tell us his name and didn't return back to our table until after we asked another server for our food that brought it to our table. Got the Floridian French Toast and as always the fruit was fresh, the toast it's self was decent. I don't plan on returning for awhile, maybe in another year, third times the charm? I absolutely love every experience at First Watch in Riverside. The food is always fresh. The ambience is spot on for a Riverside/Brooklyn experience. I can't say enough about the service. I actually visit often enough to be on first name basis with all of the wait staff. I have to give credit where credit is due, thanks to Kim, Josh, Kaila and Britain who have brought me back with their friendliness, knowledge of menu and welcome hugs. I now have added others to my list of favorite staff. Ok, my favorite is the Traditional breakfast platter. However, try everything. Try the bar drinks as well as breakfast or lunch items. I opted to sit at the bar as I'm still not used to eating alone (but with teens and a follow me everywhere 7 year old, I'm definitely learning to enjoy it lol) My waitress Kayla greeted me softly, I'm not a morning person yal so this was important to me. She was super accommodating. I didn't even have my thoughts together to realize that I needed a coffee so all of her suggestions were helpful. My food came out quickly and was excellent. The only "meh moment" was that it took about three bites into the frittata to actually get to any of the salmon, everything was centralized in the middle... But once I got there my gawd it was so good! There's something just romantic about roasted tomato meeting salmon within an egg... I came here to meet up with my real estate agent before we went out to view listed properties. She ordered the Avocado Toast menu item. You get two pieces of thick-cut whole grain bread with delicious guacamole and two eggs with it. She ordered a side of the maple bacon. Since both of us were not particularly hungry, we split it. It was just enough food for both of us to say we ate something. We ordered coffee for our beverages. What I really like is how the server came out with a quart size milk bottle with water. It is a very simple thing to use when serving customers and I like simplicity. I would saw the only strike I have to take is the speed. Even my agent noted that is a consistent thing that she notices when she visits First Watch restaurants. Other than speed, the server was very nice and accommodating to us only wanting to split the one menu item and the bacon. Even more so when we got to go cups of coffee. There I was, when it happened...Maya and I had just completed the Gate River Run..and drank beers at Intuition, and we needed food-stat. Since it was packed at Intuition, we were looking for somewhere semi close by and She recommended First Watch. While we were en route she put us on the list so we wouldn't have wait. When we arrived we were seated right away and met our suuuper nice server, who's name escapes me (I really need to start writing these things down). We ordered some drinks and started looking at the menu, and everything looked good!! When I ordered my bloody mary, I also asked for a water, and we will get to that in a minute. I ordered a side of biscuits and gravy and the smoked salmon with roasted veggies frittata, that also came with greens on the side. Maya got some sort of omlette with avocado slices on top that made me jealous...Our other friend ordered the biscuits and gravy meal with something else..and she was told she'd have to choose a different bread or change her order cause they were out of the biscuits, however I still got my biscuits..im not sure what that means. The food came, it looked and tasted great, but nothing that I was blown away by..also..my bloody mary came, and it was great but a portion of it ended up on the side of the glass and on the table due to a mispour by the server that brought it out...and...no water..so I asked again. We were checked on fairly often, and over time I realized I was just not going to get the water, very disappointing. We got some boxes and headed out. Ignore the 6 identical reviews by middle aged women during a busy event (gate river run) complaining about it being busy. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. Food comes out quick and HOT. The customer service by Matt (bar) and Alex (server) was phenomenal. Being that I'm mexican, I am super super skeptical about huevos rancheros. First watch NAILED IT! SOOOOO GOOOD! Since we have come back a few times we have had several things on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. The cinnamon toast crunch cocktail is awesome! The only downsides, if you sit outside it can get really chilly really fast because it's next to the main road (so windy) and most of the patio is awkwardly shaded. I will say the last time we went the chick that waited on us (olive skin short dark hair?) Just didn't seem to have it together. Didn't see her much and she made the worst menu suggestions. He greeted us very professionally and was so knowledgeable about the menu items, answering all questions and never appearing to be rushing or in a hurry to move on.
