Usually nothing but praise for this place. Today I got a takeout order of my usual, avocado toast. Got home and the bread was soggy at one end and burned at the other. It comes with eggs so basically the toast was put in the box with the eggs instead of maybe wrapping the toast separate. The carry out box was soggy too. Today I ordered a crepe with yogurt and fruit. The crepe was rancid and sour and I had to returned it. It was so bad, even the server couldn't smelled it. I then ordered an egg sandwich to take the taste of the rancid crepe out of my mouth. When I got the bill I was charged for the crepe and the egg sandwich. I couldn't believe it! I had to get the manager to take it off. Then, when I went to pay they took $2.00 the bill like if they were doing me a big favor. Really? I am not impressed with the management or the service. At the Breckinridge Lane location I was told that they are a franchise and the higher ups don't want to cater to those of us with food allergies. So to the owners of the company I say...It is 2017 not 1950, get with it or those of us who cannot eat bread and milk will go elsewhere for breakfast. Wanted to give the new location a try. Ordering for carryout was easy. It was busy when I arrived and the pancakes looked really good...but they were on someone elses plate so I didnt try those! The place looked clean and bright. BUT...ended up getting home and realizing they didnt give me any salad dressing for my Superfood Kale Salad (pic attached) and forgot the dressing for our other salad as well!! I didnt have any of my own so it made for some dry salad eating and a bummer of a meal. If you order carryout...open the box an make sure you get the whole order! Our go to for Sunday breakfast! Always delicious but this morning a minor issue with my order. I decided to try the Elevated Egg Sandwich, sounded good with an egg with bacon, Gruyere cheese and smashed avocado on a brioche bun. Our orders arrived quickly and I eagerly bit into my sandwich and was squirted with hot, runny egg yolk! Took all our napkins to clean up the mess! Our server Michelle took care of it in a flash and soon I was enjoying my medium cooked egg sandwich! The brioche bun was big and soft but too much bread for me. Might be better on their thick toast or ciabatta. But the taste was fantastic! It came with a side of fresh seasoned potatoes that were flavorful with a bit of onion but slightly dry. Won't keep me from coming back, though. Their breakfast menu is full of other delicious items especially love the Belgian waffles! read more

This really is one of my favorite brunch spots in Louisville. Out of the many times I've been, I've always been happy with the balance between delicious, relatively healthy, and inexpensive food First Watch offers. There are other places with better food but at higher price points. And with places of a similarly priced menu, the combination of atmosphere and recipe execution can't quite live up to First Watch. For this particular experience, I'm writing to comment on the service. Service here (and anywhere) usually meets expectations. Menu knowledge and correct order taking tend to be the two cornerstones of any turn-and-burn establishment. But today, our waitress really disappointed on food knowledge. It's simply really. I asked about the dressing on the side of mixed greens and if I could have that on the Kale salad. She expressed to me that they were the same. And yet, they aren't. The kale salad has a maple-lemon vinaigrette while the mixed greens side salad do not. She even read allow the words "maple-lemon" as she attempted to assure me they were the same. I didn't fuss and the salad that came out was delicious but it wasn't prepared the way I wanted. I'm not angry with the service but menu knowledge is critical to being successful on the floor. If you are unsure, politely excuse yourself to clarify with the kitchen or management on the difference. It's always worth the extra step. And I think this sums up my feelings about why I can't give 5 stars to First Watch. Out of my many dining experiences, the service has always just met expectations: take order, fill drinks, deliver correct food, and drop bill. It's really indicative of the management style in the establishment. I have never seen a manager sweep the room to check on guests and their opinions of the food/service. So, this morning my spouse looked at me and said, "let's try First Watch and see what it's all about!" So upon entering I noticed the wait. Waiting hardly bothers me, because good things come to those who wait, right? Yeah, well the atmosphere was cozy and cute. The wait staff was very friendly and informative. Laura waited on us and gave us many recommendations before we ordered. I decided on the Chicken Salad Melt with potatoes as my side. The potatoes were well seasoned and had a good crispness and flavor to them. I'm a bit of a chicken salad connoisseur and since I make mine from scratch, I tend to be a little critical. Theirs had apples and raisins in it. I wasnt so much a fan of the apples, and I thought the portion would be a little larger. It was served open-faced on sourdough with a slice of tomato and melted cheese. Very nice presentation, but the flavor was a little lacking. My spouse had the pumpkin spice pancakes which were very good! All in all, we were satisfied and will come back, but next time I will want to try something different! read more

When I asked if the oj was in fact fresh squeezed, I was told it was freshly squeezed somewhere else then delivered to the store, but that it was also probably at least freshly squeezed two days ago. I was in the area decided to try a new breakfast place out. There was no wait and we were seated right away. The interior and decor of the place is nice and welcoming. The menu has a variety of breakfast and lunch options. I went with the chili chorizo omelet and my date had the farm stand tacos. This is were the 3 star comes in. The first thing I notice is the potato portions on my plate were slim. Maybe 12 pieces of potatoes. Which was ok because they tasted bland. The Omelet was just middle of the road ok. My dates tacos had good flavor to them the only down fall was the texture of tortilla was odd. We also ordered a side of the biscuits and gravy and the flavor there was ok I just feel like the gravy came out of a can and easy heated. All in all it was OK nothing wows me to come back. For brunch I'll stick to my wild eggs. read more

I've been to First Watch many times now and every time I go, it is consistently one of the best breakfast/lunch places that serve perfect every time. I have also had Brandi as my server and she is very conscientious about answering any questions you have on the menu. I love the blueberry pancakes and you only want to order one if you are a gal, because they are huge. I love sweets so I also highly recommend the thick French toast. I decided I wanted to try something different the other day and my server Brandi recommended the "Farmhouse", it was seriously so delicious and filling, I took the rest home with me and enjoying now as I write this. I ordered the cinnamon pancake with turkey sausage and a poached egg. My poached egg was served in a small bowl drenched with water...the cinnamon pancake had too much crunchy cinnamon and was flat, I prefer fluffy pancakes and the turkey sausage was good but nothing special. I love First Watch! The community table is my favorite, because I enjoy conversations with new friends, and have actually been in touch with them after Breakfast ends! It's amazing how friendly and efficient the servers are, and the kitchen is fast as well. Orders were in the expo window no more than about three minutes...not sure what their SOP is, but my Floridian French Toast was hot, my eggs poached nicely, and the company of my bestie John O'Haver delightful! The prices are reasonable..I've eaten a lot at Eggs over Frankfort, and there's no comparison to food quality and ambiance, and you get what you pay for...it's worth the ten minute drive to Breck Lane.
