Called in an order of 15 and they told me there is no issue at all and they will get right to work. They thanked me for my order and were super inattentive and engaging during this process. I'm sorry I missed your name on the phone bud. You're a star. The food all arrived perfectly and was delicious. You can tell the meat they use is quality (my mouth is watering right now thinking about it) Oh also! On pick up they told me how they want to take care of us in the future and if I know a head of time how many people they can create custom boxes for us too. That way all I would have to do is call them up, say how many people I have that day and come pick up the food. Talk about service! What a charming little spot! Smack in the middle of St. Matthews, Kayrouz is a blink and you'll miss it restaurant near Trinity. A friend and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and it was a great decision. Service was fast and friendly and the food was delicious. We started with the Guacamole Louise which was so fresh and flavorful and the homemade chips were perfect. For my meal, I chose the avocado & brie sandwich with fries. The chicken was so tender and the garlic aioli was so yummy. The fries were not too thick and not too skinny-perfect for me. The portions are huge and I had enough for dinner that night. I've always loved this cute little café in St. Matthews. My nana and I come often for lunch and we always enjoy the Benny & Bacons. I highly recommend them with the sweet potato fries. Unfortunately, the service has gone downhill. They make you feel like you're an inconvenience. Yesterday I placed a carry-out order, and they made it very clear they weren't happy about it because it was "large." It was four meals. They asked me to pay over the phone and told me to add gratuity before even giving me the total, and I had to ask for it. When I arrived to pick up the food, there was no hello, just "You're here for the large order?" I checked everything in my car and realized they forgot my honey mustard. When I went back in, I was told very rudely, "It's in the bag, did you look?" It wasn't worth arguing, so I just walked out. Also, don't forget to call before you go, because it's a 50/50 shot if they're even open or not. And when I called to check their hours, the woman on the phone was rude as well. I came here with my sister on a Saturday around 2pm. We were the only ones for quite a while. Calm & casual service. We had a relaxing time. The chili had a strong tomato flavor but it was good. The fries were so good. Fresh & crispy. Our sandwiches were so good. They both had bacon & it was cooked perfect. I got the Avocado & Brie Chicken Sandwich. The chicken was awesome. My Husband and I have passed by this cafe multiple times a week for three years and finally stopped in. We are so disappointed... that we don't stop in sooner!!! We sat in the eating area facing Willis. The area had great sunlight and a great view of the patio. We were greeted immediately with true and genuine hospitality. My Husband ordered the Gordos BBQ Burger and I had the Smokin Joe chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches were absolutely delish! I passed this place driving around, it was lunch time. I turn around popped in and the staff was nice and advised of the specials. But I saw the B-nally and got french fries on the side to go. Paid and The server told me it was going to be a couple of minutes to make and that she can bring my food to my car. I was surprised by that, such great service! About 5 mins after ordering and getting back to my car in the parking lot, she brought out my food with a smile! I made the short drive to my destination. The guys at the BF's office kept hovering since my food smelled amazing! My BF and I love the fries, crispy crunchy morsel were hot and crisp! The sandwich was a AMAZING THE CHEESE WAS GOOEY AND FLAVORFUL!! The thick cut of bacon and tomato made the combo tho! We just couldn't get enough of the sandwich. The day we were there it was too hot to sit outside, but we were near a window which was nice. We started off with the hummus, which was fresh, and lovely and tasty, and came with pita, pepperoncini and olives. I was glad we opted to get that because our sandwiches took a REALLY long time to come out. So long that our server came back THREE times to tell us it was "almost ready". It definitely seemed like they were short staffed, plus there were a very large percentage of elders there that day and they all seemed to need a ton of extra hand holding for whatever reason so I cannot fault the staff too much. Then it finally came, my cod sandwich with sweet potato fries. The fish was fresh and excellently cooked, but it was bland-ish and definitely needed salt. I was given no ketchup or anything for the fries which was fine, but I really wish it had been offered. All in all, a good place but I think your experience is most assuredly based on the time of day you go and also their staffing level. read more

We decided to try this restaurant for the first time Friday night. It's close to our house and I love a good sandwich. We waited for our drinks while we watched people that came in after us with drinks very quickly. When we got our drinks they were wrong. We waited another 15 minutes for someone else to come back to take our order. I wanted to leave but we decided to stay. We ordered hummus which was excellent I highly recommend. We had to find our own silverware and napkins. Our drinks were not refilled or offered to be refilled. By the time we got our sandwich's I was a little finish with being there. He ordered a sandwich with a cream cheese whip, bacon and tomato. He said it was "ok". I ordered a veggie Ruben. It was very salty, the sweet potato fries were also very salty. The service is always good and there is really no complaints. If you want a medium priced, really good, Chef inspired cooked meal? This is the place. We had to leave because grandma was out of surgery. We have come to Kayrouz for a long time for lunch. They have a solid lunch menu with a great selection. One of us always gets a BLAT(bacon, lettuce, avocado & tomato) on rye with their fries. The pickles they serve with the sandwiches are good! They have a big selection of sandwiches and lunch fare. Our favorites being the BLAT, the club, the Reuben, and their burgers- especially the Crabby Joe burger. Today they ran out of French fries, so we had to get the house made chips, which were not as good as the fries for sure, more soggy than crisp. However, the burger was great and the BLAT with the sweet potato fries were good too! It was a busy day in St Matthews, so they had a packed house for lunch. I'm a soup/salad/sandwich kind of meal person most of the time. A little bit of greens, a crusty sandwich, and some hot soup to wash it all down goes a long way for me when I'm hungry. I also happen to be a sucker for family-owned restaurants and fun places right in my backyard. Kayrouz hits all of those notes, which is one reason I'm such a fan. My favorite is the tomato basil soup, Kayrouz salad, and the Benny & Bacon. I don't know what it is about this combo, but it's one that never gets old. (Well, with the benedictine and bacon sandwich, it is pretty obvious what rocks it . . . the bacon!) The restaurant is small, but it's what I would describe as cozy or intimate, rather than being crowded. Service is always attentive and friendly, with my water glass filled before I even realize how low it's gotten. It's the kind of place I like to come to catch up with a good friend, and when the weather's nice, we take full advantage of the outdoors with the outside seating. The people-watching is decent, but you do have to be careful when you're outside, as Graeter's always lures from across Willis Ave. If you pace yourself just right during your meal, you might be able to go over there for something to top it all off. The only thing that could make Kayrouz even better in my book is if it were open on Sundays. Other than that, you'll find no complaints and one very happy patron in me! read more

Somehow I missed this Louisville standard until tonight. My wife and I met up with two other couples after sports. The restaurant was empty because the 24 hour snow forecast had driven most of Louisville to ground in Krogers throughout the metro area. Very old school, no frills just good comfort food. We had a cross section of the menu. Creamy tomato soup was very tasty. Those who had side salads were surprised by there generous size. I had a broiled scrod with pesto special. Delicious. Moist fish, perfectly cooked. Im told by my dining partners who frequent Kayrouz that the burgers are awesome. The footprint is small but the service was great. The prices are incredibly reasonable. When it comes to appetizers and food/cocktails in general. I'm picky and opinionated. I know what I like and what I dislike. When we ordered the hummus and crab dip, honestly, I had no idea what was in store for us! The first bite blew me away with the fresh bread and ACTUAL crab in the dip. It wasn't imitation crab dip like I have gotten at many and quite expensive restaurants. Next, was the hummus... And was that fresh or what! I was already stuffed but patiently awaiting the entrees! I have visited three times now and my personal favorites are the crab burger, Kentucky Hot Brown, and the fried oysters. Had a late lunch there today. Got there about 1 PM. Everything started off great and then the wait began four people for orders simple orders nothing major and it probably took about 45 minutes for the food to come out. Then we lost our waiter. Not long after that people would come in with catering orders, and what not, and he devoted every second to them and never even looked in our direction. We had to flag down a waitress to get a simple drink refill and then it took quite an extensive period of time to get his attention so we could get our checks. It seemed like the two people that were waiting on tables were only focused on the job at hand and never looked in our direction or anyone else's. I was a waiter years ago. If it would've been me, I would've told the people that came in that they would have to excuse me for a couple of minutes while I took care of my tables and then try to coordinate helping them and keeping up with your customers don't just let them sit there! We have no plans to return anytime soon! read more

Been to this little neighborhood cafe a million times. I ordered from them at least 3 nights a week while I was pregnant. I live across the street. The food is very good. Great selection. I usually get the bene and bacon which is Benedictine and bacon on great whole grain bread. As my side I always go between fries ( which are the best around ) and sweet potato fries. I was there tonight and received the worse treatment from either a manager or the owner. ( the original owner died recently and was very conscientious of customer service). When we sat at our table the waitress informed us that there was a limited menu due to the kitchen being out of several items. On top of that, the fryers were down so nothing from the fryers. The only sides mentioned to us were tabouleh, cole slaw and a side salad. Of course I was bummed out because I love their fries. The three of us ordered side salads as one of us has a mayo allergy and the tabouleh isn't very good there. Our waitress informs us she will have to charge us extra for the salads. As she walks away we start to think about that..... why would they charge us extra when they don't have many options to offer us with limited supplies in kitchen and the fryers down?!! When the waitress came with our ticket, they had charged us almost $4 for the side salads, they are originally $5. We asked her if she could take that off due to the limited other sides. She asked whoever was in charge and was told no. I'm sorry, but I've eaten in restaurants all over the globe, and never have I heard of charging for a side salad as a side when you have nothing else to offer. Poor poor poor customer service on whoever is making the decisions here. My mom had told me that a few weeks back she was there and her fish came out raw so she asked them to cook it a little longer. (A white fish of some sort).. they brought it out once again very rare and pink so she asked if she could order something else. She ordered another item and the person in charge would not remove the fish from her bill so she was stuck paying for 2 entrees. I'm posting this review after finishing the Reuben at a Shady Lane because someone told me that Shady Lane was "way better". KAYROUZ IS WAY BETTER. My wife, who doesn't even like Reubens, took a bite of my sandwich and couldn't believe how good it was. I'm far from a creature of habit. That means any time I go to a restaurant, I'm going to try something new. I feel like I would be betraying myself if I ever order something other than the Reuben. How many times can I say Reuben in this post? My wife order the Nova and it was fantastic as well. The avocado, bacon, and caramelized onions? So good!
