I have a rule for myself in which I refuse to write a bad review, but I had such a horrible experience that I had to write something and express my frustration. My family and I went on Mother's Day. Naturally brunch joints are busy. We reserved a spot in line on yelp, and arrived accordingly. We waited almost two hours to be seated. We waited at our own discretion, so I am not so upset with this as much. However, we were not given a wait time when we arrived, and after an hour I went in to ask for an estimated time and I was told 15 mins. We waiting for another almost 40 mins after this. This is not even why I'm truly frustrated. It started when we walked in. We told the waitress we needed a minute to decide our orders, and we had to call for her back because she disappeared. Keep in mind the place is almost empty by then. We waited another 1 hour for our food. They brought no cream for our coffee even after we asked. We had to get up and grab it off of a different table. Likewise for hot sauce (empty bottle on our table). We had no water and received zero refills (she watched us have a conversation about having no water). They were sweeping by my brother's feet. Worst part: they brought the bill the moment after I took my second bite. On top of that, food was not warm. My first bad experience with First Watch. We reserved a table on a busy sunday, and had to wait 20 more minutes when we've already had a table booked. 40 minute wait on food, waiter didn't bother offering water, checking on our food and giving us a status on our orders, and of course - while eating, there were 3 pieces of hair in my eggs. We usually have really great experiences here but this is just ridiculous. Hopefully our next time here will have better customer service and the cooks/preps need to be wearing hairnets more tightly. read more

I went for lunch on a Wednesday and there was no wait for a table of 3. I found everyone to be friendly and the service was good. There was a bit longer of a wait to get our food than is typical for a breakfast and lunch spot, but I wasn't in a hurry so it was fine. The menu has quite a few options for both breakfast and lunch including many slightly different takes on the classics. I also appreciated that it listed the calorie counts; some lower cal options would have been great though. I love to eat a salad for lunch but not one with 750 calories. I ordered the 1/2 market veggie sandwich and 1/2 superfood kale salad and while I liked both of them there was nothing that really wowed me. I would go back again and try something else. read more

This place was just meh. Nicely decorated in a rustic theme. The menu was lacking for a brunch restaurant. Coffee was warm but not hot. You can taste that it sat a while in the pitcher before being served to the table. The food was lacking flavor, which explains getting the million dollar bacon so many positive reviews. The potatoes were under cooked too. We didn't wait in line- walked in at 10:30am and our waitress was productive quiet and reserved. If you weigh the cost of the food to the experience- I'm unimpressed as there are similar ranged brunch restaurants in Troy with a far better dining experience and better tasing food. Good food. My wife and I split the works omelette which was cooked well and seasoned well. I like the pot of coffee they serve you when you order coffee. Service was underwhelming. We waited 2 hours for a table although the First Watch app said it would only be an hour. Service and a lack of urgency was the most frustrating part of our experience there. As I looked around I saw multiple tables empty and the staff that were clearing the other tables were moving at a snails pace. The food took nearly 30 minutes to arrive to the table. As this a new restaurant it's clear that staff training needs to continue and should hopefully improve as management and staff continue to improve & gel. I would definitely give First Watch another try after they work out some of the kinks regarding training and staffing. read more

I loved this place and I wish it was a lot closer to my house because I would declare this as my go to breakfast spot! First impression walking in was that the atmosphere was very modern and hip which always is a good sign in my books. I have yet to visit a place that looked like this that serves crappy food. Our waitress was nice and was fast with our drink orders. I gotta say I really like when I order water and they bring a little jug out with my glass so I can fill it on my own and still have some left. My friend and her mom both ordered the cheese omelet, potatoes and one ordered sour dough bread and the other whole grain. I had the market hash. They said that their omelets were good. My market hash was probably one of the best tasting breakfast items I have ever had. Everything was cooked perfectly, there was enough vegetables to potato ratio. Cutting into the eggs and mixing it all together just added to it. I think I could have split this with someone, I ended up taking half of it home with me. I also did not expect to get a fresh side of fruit. It's not those shitty fruit cups that some restaurants offer even though on the menu it says "fresh fruit". Oh no this place actually delivered GOOD RIPE FRUIT!! Like the strawberries were sweet, the grapes were crisp, and the pineapple was tart. Amazing, keep it up. Now the reason why this is 4 stars instead of 5 is that we had some simple requests that weren't met. 1st my friends mom asked for her omelet to be well done, when they brought them out they both looked exactly the same, when she pointed it out our waitress said hers is more well done even though it didn't look (or tasted) like it at all. Another thing was that she brought us all whole grain bread, now this wouldn't be such a big deal but the place wasn't busy and our orders were so simple. As a former waitress who has served many breakfasts, when I see the cooks give the wrong toast I make them redo it no matter how annoyed they get at me. I cant help but wonder if she was hoping we wouldn't notice? Maybe it was an honest mistake and I'm being dramatic over bread...lol. I read the reviews of previous visitors to First Watch; whatever issues they had their first week...are all taken care of! The service was very prompt and the wait staff knew their menu very well. Made great recommendations. I was seated very quickly and received the menu, Spring specials and coffee within minutes of being seated. I ordered the Matcha Latte Pancakes on the recommendation of my waitress. They were amazing! 3 pancakes topped with greek yogurt, granola and a warm fruit compote...matcha green tea is added to the batter so the pancakes have a greenish tint to them. But seriously the best pancakes I've had. My friend got the avocado toast - it looked very fresh and First Watch doesn't skimp on portions. She said it was really good as well. I'll plan to visit again to try lunch, but would recommend this place for breakfast anytime. It's a great atmosphere and the food is really good! read more

Plan to join the Waitlist before you even leave the house as wait times regularly exceed one hour. Complimentary coffee is served in the waiting area if you do end up waiting at the restaurant. Outdoor seating is available weather permitting. Fresh juices are uniquely delicious and the coffee is excellent. They leave the pot of coffee on your table so your cup never gets cold. The prices are just a little higher than your average breakfast spot, but the quality and freshness of the food justifies the extra money you pay. I like to order something different every time I go here because there are so many great menu items. You can't go wrong, sweet and savory breakfast lovers will have no shortage of tasty selections. They do have some work to do as far as the staff goes. Service is fine, not great, but not so bad that it gets in the way. read more

Everything is always fresh and always good. We tried first in Florida and were happy to see here in Michigan. We have not had anything bad in either place. Highly recommend the quinoa power bowl, avocado toast and frittata rustica. Those are our favorites so far. The staff here is excellent and very accommodating. When replacement order arrived eggs were under cooked and hollandaise sauce was watery. Just too hard to try to get a warm plate here. Quality seems lacking. Service was very slow. I thought I sent a review but I guess not. I visited shortly after they opened and was so glad I did. I went with a friend of mine on a Friday mid-morning. I'd heard that there is quite a wait on Saturday and Sunday's but that is to be expected at a brunch place. I wanted to try as much as I could so I ordered the avocado toast and a side of bacon, a cold brew coffee and the açaí smoothie (I can't remember it's exact name and it may have been a seasonal item). My friend ordered the candied bacon, a regular coffee and the morning meditation smoothie - she enjoyed everything. My avocado toast was so good. It came with two poached eggs which were perfect!! I've never had good luck with poached eggs at home. This was so delicious. It was quite filling and I was excited to have leftovers later on. Bacon was good - not too crispy, right amount of chew. Coffee was smooth and refreshing. The açaí smoothie was perfect as well. I was seated almost immediately and the wait staff checked on us once during our meal. It did get busier after I'd arrived. I will definitely be back. It is a bit pricey but everything is super fresh and healthy. The egg sandwich and pancakes are next on my list to try there. read more
