I visit the First Wok on 71st and Georgetown often today I go and order several items broccoli and rice did not have the rice with it. I called them and they put me on hold for five minutes and then I hung up and called back and they told me I need to speak to the manager, but then they put me on hold again When I come back the third time I was told that the person that talk to me act like they didn't know what was going on and then they said I must've talked to one of the co-managers. It's not that many people in that damn place so then when I told her I didn't get the rice, she tells me check the bag I'm standing here squashing the bag while I'm on the phone But apparently they thought I was lying all this over a bowl of rice that you did not give me anyway I will not be visiting this restaurant again. I just want you to know they don't take care of their customers. They call me a liar, they don't come to the phone and take care of business. read more

First let me say that they are always so pleasant when they answer the phone and take your order. I appreciate that and will continue to give them my business because of it. The food is average for an American Chinese restaurant. I always get the Crabmeat Rangoon and wonton soup...or pork lo mein. All of the above are consistently good. If you get any of the fried "chicken" menu items, it's going to be dry and questionable meat. I would suggest opting for pork or shrimp. Items. Overall, a solid choice close to home. read more

Super amazing family - my service is always quick and great. This is one my favorite Chinese places as the other ones in Indy don't quite taste like the food my parents make. I came here to grab a quick dinner one night and my food was ready in less than 10 mins and they seemed a little busy. The potstickers have a thicker skin than most but everything tasted authentic. I got the shrimp in garlic sauce and I loved how crunchy the veggies were and it didn't make me feel tired or bad that I just ate so much food. Decent price and good portions. read more

It's always the same one and she isn't very friendly or patient. Definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants around here in Indy. Chicken was fried well and the sauce it was tossed in was real good too. Their fried rice only has onions in it. The texture and non-stickiness of the rice makes up for it's bland/unseasoned flavor. Paid around $9-$10 for this and it was worth it. It filled me up. I always get sesame or orange chicken whenever I go to a new Chinese restaurant (just to play it safe) to try it out before I get something more "adventurous" like a honey garlic chix or get some appetizers like a krab rangoon. That being said, I will be a returning customer and hopefully a usual because i am tired of looking for a new fave chinese food shop. read more

Yelp needs a minus star category for this place... the Pupu Plater is just that poopoo. There are no words to explain how nasty our food was and what a waste of money it was. The Pupu Plater was so over fried and greasy that it made everything tough and tasteless. The Hot and Sour soup was hot but not sour, no taste whatsoever...I don't understand how a restaurant can charge people their hard earned money for inedible food. I guaranty you the owner of this restaurant would not eat what we got served. After scooping out the cabbage in the Egg Roll it all went straight into the garbage. I just now deleted a previous one star review because they seem to have improved things. They have remodeled and cleaned the place up. There are new owners, since some time earlier this year. I haven't noticed the stale grease smell recently (I sometimes shop at Big Lots two doors down) so I decided to try them when I needed some hot food fast. Thankfully they are open until 9:30pm. Flooring is new. Walls have been painted. Wainscot (that panelling thing that goes part way up the wall) looks new or recently cleaned. The dining area is not cluttered anymore. They're definitely at least a 3 star place for what it is, a standardized walkup Chinese joint with the standard red and green printed Americanized Chinese menu. I'll try a couple more standard dishes, and see if I can give them four stars. No delivery, but they do have online ordering. Dine in or carry out. TV on wall. read more

I've been ordered from here over half a dozen times, and once I took the magnet to get to their website, I was able to order online. Even better! I've done that a couple of times since the last time the lady took my call and hung up after I gave my order, never saying how much, how long, or good bye. Ordering online has worked twice before, until last week. I ordered a couple of dishes for me and a friend. When I went to pick it up, she asked if I was the online order. I was, she starts to ring me out and the price was wrong. She asked what I ordered and only half of the dishes were what I ordered. It was somebody else's order and they had to go and cook mine. Even though I had an email confirming my order, it was like it never existed on their end. I really didn't have 15 minutes to wait, but I was already there. So I patiently waited while they cooked it. While I waited, another man entered and the original order was his. I'm not sure why my order never went anywhere as it was 3pm on a Friday afternoon, so it wasn't busy at all. Finally my order was done and I get the bag. It looks like she's going to hand me a coupon, I assume for the mistake, and instead it's a piece of paper with their new web address for ordering online that will be ready in a month or so. No coupon, no apology, not one acknowledgement that my order was lost. It just irks me when someone drops the ball somewhere and doesn't even verbalize the mistake. I'm not looking for a I'm sorry but an apologize for the slip up would've been nice. I still like a few of their dishes, so that's why I'm putting it at 3 stars, but I don't care for the woman's customer service, or rather lack thereof. read more

TIny, almost-miss-it place tucked into a hole-in-the-wall shopping center, but wow! The food is awesome! Not fast, though, so plan ahead - it's only open for pick up, so call ahead and place your order. When they tell you 20 minutes, give them 30. Here's what's great - Chicken and broccoli, chicken and mixed veg, the pork eggroll (these can so easily go wrong, but this one is great). The chicken wings, and fried wontons are also great. I got a Large Black pepper Chicken and there was no other option for this chicken except a large. Ok I pay around $10.00 for this and when I get home to eat my food... I was recently craving some Chinese food and due to a severe bout of laziness I did not feel like driving across town to my usual chinese place so I opted to try them since they are right around the corner. I ordered General Tsos Chicken, Shrimp Fried Rice, and Crab Rangoon all of which are my favorite. When I arrived the staff was friendly and the establishment was clean. I would have given them a 5 out of 5 but the the Crab Rangoon was way too salty and the Shrimp Fried Rice lacked the abundance of seasoning that was placed in the Crab Rangoon. Inspite of that I would definitely try them again, I'd give them 8 stars if they delivered! read more

Just tried First Wok for the first time. I was extremely dissatisfied! First let me say that I ordered delivery through Total Take Out so I was not able to check my order when I picked it up. The sweet and sour chicken had absolutely no veggies or pineapple. Just chicken with a side of sauce. Also I specifically added that I wanted hot mustard packs. I not only didn't get those but they didn't even put soy sauce in the bag. The egg rolls were greasy. The one bright side was the beef and veggie dish. It had plenty of tender beef and good veggies. All in all I definitely won't be ordering from them again. P.S. Total take out service was great! read more

I'm one to be weary of Chinese food or any Asian cuisine in Indianapolis, given that I loathe Americanized/Pan-Asian/fusion attempts that are often found in the city. However, I took a chance today with First Wok and am glad that I did. After perusing through Yelp and seeing that they have online ordering, I opted to call in my order and used the menu from their website. The man on the other end was pleasant and thorough with my order, and I was surprised that he said it would be done in 5-10 minutes. By the time I got there, my order was ready and I noticed two people were sitting and waiting for their order. The employees were all pleasant and the place was very clean. My order had been sitting on the counter and was ready, as promised. Again, I was very impressed. They have a $5 credit card minimum and accept either Visa or MasterCard. I was eager to come home and indulge in my very hot order. My sweet and sour soup wasn't bad and certainly in the thick corn starch side. I was glad that it had a good amount of bamboo shoot pieces, tofu, and mushroom. Next, my Hunan beef had the standard pork fried rice. A little on the dry side, but that is typical in my fried rice experiences. The Hunan beef had plenty of meat (though, it seemed like pork pieces which I'm fine with), as well as a hefty portion of vegetables (baby corn, water chestnuts, broccoli, mushrooms, green peppers, snow peas, and cabbage). All in all, it was a win and I have plenty left. Looks like I have a reason to like Chinese food in Indy after all, and First Wok is the winner! read more

A great Chinese food restaurant within walking distance from my apartment. Offering your standard fast-paced Chinese food menu sprinkled with egg drop soup, sweet and sour chicken, crab ragoon, rices, and everything in between, this nomnom establishment is worth your time and money. It comes recommended. The inside is divey in a very clean way. The employees are great and they deliver flawless product, no matter how busy the restaurant is. The area can get crowded from time to time, but they never seem overwhelmed. They cook a mean sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken, egg rolls, and soups. The wanton and egg drop is by far my favorite. The portions are extremely generous and I would applaud you if you were able to eat your entire meal in one sitting. It's a perfect place for dinner, and then scrumptious leftovers for lunch the following day. The lunch menu is a great deal if you get in there before 3pm, and the dinner combos aren't badly priced either. Dinner combos and a pint of soup will run you around $9, give or take. I've lived around the area for a year and finally decided to try this place. It seemed really clean inside and that was a plus. I ordered the chicken and eggplant in garlic sauce. I started to eat a few pieces of eggplant and it was delicious! I was pretty excited. I continued to eat and realized that I couldn't find the chicken in the dish. I asked my boyfriend if he saw any chicken in the dish, and he said that the pieces with the white insides are chicken. I told him that that was impossible because it was mushy like eggplant. Basically, their chicken is mushy and there is no way that was chicken. It was pretty disgusting, but tasted good. The second dish we got was curry chicken and it tasted good but the chicken was a little mushy as well. I really don't know what I ate that night...Oh yeah, and my fortune cookie said "next time, order the shrimp." First time ordering takeout from First Wok, and I would definitely recommend it. Ordered General Tso's Chicken combination, with fried rice and an egg roll, with a side of crab rangoon. The chicken was meaty and the spice was suttle but present. The heat kicked in right as I thought I wanted more. The fried tasted a little oily, but it is fried rice after all. The crab rangoons were filled nicely, and were well complimented by the sweet and sour sauce. Aside from the food, the employee who took my order was very nice on the phone, repeated my order to confirm, and even nicer in person. If you like fresh made chinese food... this isnt the place for you. Fried Rice was bland S&S Chicken was grabbed from the fridge upfront and refried. Didnt even look golden and crisp as it should be but instead was chewy and dark brown. Not sure whats up with the chinese joints around this area cant seem to find a good place . Missing LA for sure! This is definitely my go-to take out Chinese restaurant. They have a great selection of classic items and even have a whole section of vegetarian meals! There definitely isn't much to the actual building, it's clearly meant to handle mostly takeout orders. My family ordered First Wok as take-out and we had quite a big order, which all seemed right. The food was decent and the service was good (considering we had such a large order). We ordered several quarts of General Tso's Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, and Shrimp Lo Mein along with more than a dozen egg rolls. My only complaint about the food was that the General Tso's lacked the kick that I am used to General Tso's Chicken having. The rest of the food was decent. I live by closer Chinese restaurants, and I wouldn't drive out of my way to pick up First Wok, but if I'm in the area and have the craving for some Chinese, I'd go back. read more
