Came to Fish and Chips for the Scotland World Cup Match, and it did not disappoint. Great food and drinks, and unmatched ambiance for the football game. This is THE place for World Cup. If there aren't kilts and bagpipes at your party, what are you even doing!? Raucous crowd, flawless fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding. Great service from Isabella for over five hours! Perfect!

The coconut cocktail was delicious. I would return just for that! The fried shrimp were tasty!

Fish fingers had a thick and crunchy batter that was slightly cheesy-herby. The fish was tender. I liked it without the tartar sauce. The fried scotch egg has a tasty seasoned meat layer and tender yolk. The arugula salad and dip offset the fatty flavors. The curry pie (mashed potatoes on ground beef with curry seasoning) with chips (thick fries) was good. I like the flavor of the curry sauce here. Ordering the extra curry sauce to dip anything (fries, fried fish) in is worth it. The patio is nice to eat in as the wind wasn't strong though they did have fans running to offset the heat. At 6pm, the sun was fierce, and there isn't any shade. The staff was attentive and refilled our waters consistently. There is a single female and single male restroom. The staff saw we had a dog and brought a big bowl of water without us asking for it.

Great spot for the World Cup and when you are hankering for British food! The fish n chips are spot on as is the sausage roll and sticky toffee pudding.

Pub style inside with a bar in the middle. Huge portion. I ordered the lunch Cod and my friend got the lunch Haddock. Both were good the cod is softer and flakes apart easily, while the haddock stays together more and has a slightly "catfish-like" texture. Just depends on what you like, but both were tasty. Portions are huge for the price. The fries were thick and crispy, and the baked beans were a nice touch on the side. Service was l fine, I didn't have any issues. Overall, it was a nice chill spot with good portions. Tasty food.

The food here is top-notch and the service was great. The atmosphere was nice but simple. I'm so glad we decided to try this place. The area is super cute and very walkable. There's a yummy ice cream place just around the corner for an after dinner treat.

I was influenced to try this place, and it lived up to the hype. I absolutely love eggs and will drive quite a distance for Scotch eggs. Their version is jammy in the center and pretty good. The mac and cheese was nostalgic for me, but I'd try something else next time. I was influenced to get the side of curry sauce for the Fish and Chips, and it took it up another notch. The fries were really good. The customer service was nice. I feel like the tables should be rearranged for better flow, and they have outdoor seating. It was a chilly day and steady busy. Overall, I would return especially for the Scotch eggs.

This was a review from a few weeks ago on my trip to the Kemah area. Once I wrapped up with my event I decided to take a trip to a place I have been looking forward when I had an opportunity. This was that time. It was none other than: Fish and Chips Houston. From my recollection I knew the restaurant was located close to the boardwalk and I'd pass it up on the way there. Very pub like in its decor but still gives a local bar atmosphere for those nearby. I came for one thing and that was the fish and chips. In addition, I wanted to give the haggis a try as well. Finally to wrap up the meal, was the sticky toffee pudding. The fish choices were either cod or haddock and decided to stick with cod. The filet is a nice size which definitely was as big as the plate but also with thick cut chips (fries). Personally I enjoy it with tartar but also the malt vinegar. Nice crispy texture outside but also very delicate on the inside. The haggis was something I have tried before at other places so I was not coming in blind. Haggis is sheep's intestine with spices and on first bite, this would be very similar to how boudin is made and has that same texture. Unique but definitely the spices masked that games taste I have come across before. But the surprising choice was definitely the sticky toffee pudding. For me, I'm not a huge fan of toffee because of the hardened texture whenever I come across it. But this was not it, with the creamed poured on top, made this delicious, creamy and digging in for more. Overall this was a great visit to Fish and Chips Houston. The service was great and our bartender was consistently checking on us and with the refills too. I had high hopes and this made my day. I left satisfied and filled my fish and chips cravings. One thing that is unfortunately an issue is the distance. I love that it is close to Kemah but coming from the city a bit of a drive. But I do recommend it if you are around the area. And you can't skip on the sticky toffee pudding.

I love love this place , my son found it as we walked towards Kemah Boardwalk. He saw the flags posted outside and he hoped to get an authentic fish and chips and we have not been disappointed since .. When I am in the area , we make it a point to visit. Our 1st experience with our waiter Craig was great as he suggested local brews to try .. The atmosphere is great , you can catch a soccer or football game and all the waiters I have encountered have been great . Our favorite plate is the Cod or Haddock with chips and a must is the curry sauce to dip it in . The tastiest, fresh fish I have ever had . I have also tried the steak pie , that Meat was tender and delicious in the flaky crust . The jumbo shrimp and chips , also delicious as they use the same light batter as the fish . I will take a trip soon, when in the area since I live in the San Antonio area..

My husband and I just visited Fish & Chips Houston for a late lunch, it's a pub with dining tables, place is very cool, sporty soccer vibes, cold beers and great music. Staff is friendly and helpful. We started with a Scotch egg, it came pretty quick, I loved it! So this is basically a boiled egg wrapped in pork sausage meat, then coated in seasoned breadcrumbs, and fried to perfection, the yolk was jammy, the sausage had a great flavor, and the coating was so crispy, came with a velvety mustardy mayonnaise sooo good! Then we had the Shepherd's pie, this is a big dish, it's ground lamb and veggies topped with mashed potatoes, baked until golden, great flavor of the lamb, it was very tasty! We also had the Cod Fish and Chips, the fish was moist, and the batter was crispy, homemade potatoes, can't never go wrong! Great place, good food, great option to eat out.

Half order of fish (haddock) & chips w/ brown gravy
    Autumn T.

I stopped in here last night at the recommendation of the bartender at my hotel. I definitely was not disappointed. The bartender was super friendly & took my order quickly. I got a half order of the fish (haddock) & chips with a side of brown gravy. The food came out very quickly and looked cooked to perfection.. and it was. The breading was light & flavorful and actually stuck to fish! Most places the breading tends to slide off, I'm guessing due to the oil. The fish itself was light & flaky and had a great taste - I preferred it to the normal cod I get. The fries were awesome as well & cooked just right and the light gravy was seasoned perfectly and added the right touch. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. Hands down the best fish & chips I've had!

Christmas cocktail menu item "white Christmas" Delicious!! It almost tastes like a key lime pie
    Stephanie G.

Come for the food, stay for the drinks and screens for games! They have a christmas cocktail menu available if you're feeling festive. the fish and chips are outstanding and literally have the best tartar sauce I've ever had...and I don't even like tartar sauce.

Food wise, Gouda Mushroom Burger is fantastic every time. A great mix of flavors, and a hefty burger, you will not be disappointed. Every time we have come here, someone gets it. The fries are also well seasoned and tasty. Highly recommend. I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Chicken. This was absolutely fantastic. Served over a bed of sauteed serrano slaw (which was amazing, I usually don't like slaw), this delightful concoction was stuffed with cream cheese spinach artichoke and cream cheese with a balsamic glaze over the top. It comes with very good mashed potatoes. I don't like most restaurants potatoes, so that's a bonus win. Really enjoyed, would get it again. The beer! They have a really good menu that rotates. They have local craft brews, in addition to your standard domestics. They also have ciders for those that don't fancy a beer. Our last visit I had a Belgian Tripel, and a Pumpkin Stout. Delish! A great spot for a lunch or chill dinner. Plenty of tv space for games. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

We decided to get the tasting option and try some of the nice variety of beers and sours they offered. I can't remember which ones I got but I also tried my daughter and sister's choices. Everything was delicious except the wings we ordered were dry-rubbed and were too hard & crispy to me. I'm very picky about my buffalo wings, though. The service was fantastic and it's a fairly big place that is probably packed on the weekend. It's family friendly, too, with a playground right next to their outdoor patio.

**Tip-Shaming Warning**…read more I really want to love this place. The atmosphere is great; I hear they are community minded; and everyone here has always been nice. But this joint can't decide whether it is a bar or a restaurant. I have previously talked about how spectacular the fish & chips are -- then they removed them from the menu. This weekend, I took my father to this place only to find out that the lunch menu selection wouldn't fill a napkin. Not to mention, they were out of mustard. What respectable joint in Texas runs out of mustard when hamburgers are on the menu? About the burger... The cheeseburger and fries are quite a bit more expensive here than legit burger joints in our area such as Stomp's or Tookies. Further, I've had better burgers in a commissary and at amusement parks. There is nothing fresh about the meat. And then there's the mustard. When I order a burger with mustard (and you don't have mustard), why bring it to me dry? A decent server would come to the table and say "Sir, I know you wanted mustard, but we don't have any." Additionally, I asked for a side of pickles with my burger, which didn't come. So I asked the server, in the presence of the food runner, "Can you bring me the side of pickles?" The food runner chimed in "They're on the burger." -- I wanted to jump down his throat, but I instead ignored him and redirected my comment to the server (whom I requested the side of pickles when I placed my order.) In addition to the marginal food, the customer service here is quite lacking. Though our server was a nice guy, he seemed to half-ass everything. And then he brought the iPad and stood over us while we paid the bill ... which included pre-set tip amounts. I've worked in food service, as has pretty much everyone in my family. When you stand over me while I'm calculating your gratuity, you are likely to get squat. -- Even the Wall Street Journal has written about the gauche nature of this "tip shaming" practice. And so, our server got what he deserved ... very little. (If he'd left me with the iPad and moved on, I likely would've felt more charitable. His mistake.) This place could and should do better. But it needs to decide whether it wants to be a restaurant or a bar. It could do both, but not for long in the way they are currently operating.

While randomly Googling, I remembered Boondoggles and decided to give the 'old place' another try. My first visit was for a dinner with classmates from UHCL; my second was with my brother. The eatery looked practically the same as it did nearly eight years ago. Its dive bar meets German beer hall vibe is still very much alive, and the place was still bustling with people. I came in with fish and chips on my mind, but a lengthy scan of the menu led me to the Florentini Chicken, while my brother ordered the shrimp po-boy. The Florentini Chicken was really good, and I think it's a solid choice for the health-conscious. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly crisp. My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. Price-wise, while the costs may have risen over the years, they were not unreasonable.

We weren't seated in the greater eating area where it was cooler and maybe where the gnats were less of a bother. The food was delicious and homemade, you can tell it was made with high quality ingredients and that Southern skill that you can only get from helping Grandma in the kitchen. BUT the roaches made us lose our appetite. Such a shame. It seemed like the building went down. They don't seem to put as much effort into the condition of that place as they do the food. Dusty ceiling fans and crummy floors. I appreciate the homey vibe but it looked really junky, more stuff piled in unoccupied corners as before. I gave a lot of things the side eye, I mean it there has to be maintained asthetic. They charged an 18% gratuity on my tab for a party of 8 but I arrived with 4 people, the other 4 had already been there, paid and was almost done with their meal. Then of course the cashier/waitress still mentioned an additional, optional tip. I didn't think that was fair. At the end of it all she wasn't the best waitress.

They have a good amount of tables so even though there were a lot of people there it didn't feel packed. Our server was great! He was a bartender inside and worked our group of about 16 people at the same time. We never lacked for drinks or food at all. Our area had at least 3 TVs so I was able to catch every sporting event that was going on while hanging out, it was a great time. I tried the steak fingers and some crawfish, both were great! The steak fingers had nice crisp to them and the crawfish was boiled well and had good flavor. Every drink I tried was delicious, I tried a margarita and could have kept sipping those but opted to go with draft beer instead. There are so many menu options I definitely want to come back to try more food and drinks. They have an area with a pool table and darts, it looked nice but I didn't hang out there. Bathrooms were pretty clean and readily available, no lines even when the place was packed. They also have plenty of parking.

The service was horrible, we sat there being passed by at least 6 different servers for the first 15 mins with no acknowledgment, no drinks and not even handed menus at the very least. When we finally got to order it took at least 30 mins to get to us. The mozzarella sticks are straight out of a freezer bag, you can tell, and the spinach wrap was soggy. Not even that, I asked for no avocado because I'm allergic and what did I find at the very bottom of it? Exactly that. So clearly they don't care about allergies! We were never checked on, any time we needed something (like a drink) we had to flag someone down. Even to pay the bill we had to go through 3 people to track down whoever was supposed to be our server. The servers were unpleasant as well, they were too busy talking to eachother to even know what's going on. I will never step foot inside of this place again, coming here in the first place was a huge mistake. Like I said, do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else. I bet the Denny's down the street would serve you better than this place ever could.

I ordered a meal that arrived undercooked, so much so that the dough was still raw in the middle. It wasn't just slightly underdone it was doughy and inedible. I brought it to the staff's attention & I was told to order something else, and then I was charged for the replacement meal, which cost nearly twice as much as my original order. There was no discount, no adjustment, and no effort to make up for the mistake. In the end, we paid significantly more because the restaurant served an inedible meal. That's simply not acceptable. The one bright spot was our server. She was friendly, attentive, and did everything she could to help. This experience is in no way a reflection of her service she was wonderful. The issue was entirely with how the heck am I paying double for my meal that was wrong. Unfortunately, the lack of quality control and poor customer service in resolving the problem means I won't be returning. When a restaurant makes a mistake, customers shouldn't have to pay extra because of it. Oh and let me add that apparently we weren't the first person to complain about it & it look super long.
